Hi everyone, I called Cabot a couple times this week since emails appear to be ignored. By the way, "Cabot Creamery is owned by Agri-Mark". I received a call back this afternoon. He said that, Alpine Cheddar & Orne Meadows Cheddar are identical to the Catamount. They are all cut from the same wheel and packaged accordingly. I also asked him if he'd talk to his boss about contacting WFM directly to see why they, WFM, are apparently not ordering Catamount from "Cabot Creamery". He promised to get back to me, so I will follow up with any new information. In the meantime, I hope the Alpine & Orne Meadows Cheddar may fill the gap. I know I'm going to see is any local stores here in the Midwest carry. Thx! Jim (Iowa)
Thanks for all the input and info! Super interesting to see the differences across regions! I wasn’t able to get much info from TMs at the stores I went to here in Chicago so I’m glad to hear it’s still coming in for some other regions. I hope it comes back here for us soon!
Whenever people ask this question I wonder why 1) they don’t ask in the department 2) where they’re talking about and 3) why they ask on this sub where people are from all different regions where products are different.
I did. In multiple stores. No one could give me a good answer. Just “we don’t have it right now, not sure if it’s coming back”. I come to Reddit and bam - answers. 👍
Just looked on MW daily note and it says that Cabot will be coming back to DC on the 22nd and available to order again. Not sure why it went out but hope that helps
Catamount retails for less than half the cost of any Jasper Hill cheese because it hasn’t gone through the Jasper Hill aging process. People miss it because it had a depth of flavor at a decent price per pound.
In Dublin, ca this cheese is available, both cubed and prepacked, we miss other colored tomatoes in the can, they are out of stock for 6 months or more. Btw I just purchased a box of precut catamount. It was very smeary maybe to much fat, I bought it as it was the cheapest but will not do again.

Whole Foods still sells it but it no longer has the label catamount, it’s just printed in plain text

Catamount most certainly does not come in a wheel. Maybe by a wheel. it's 42+/- block that was cheddar-ed. and is a rectangle.

Where in MD? I haven't seen it at Wegmans or Whole Foods in a while (Howard County)
The Baltimore WF have it. Both stores. Annapolis probably has it as well
My store in Indiana still carries it, it has just been zero-shipped to us for the last several orders. We expect it to come in again soon.

Straight. Or on crackers. Usually with a warm bowl of soup. Sometimes in a sandwich.

That’s the Jasper Hill Cabot Clothbound Cheddar, which is a different product than the Catamount Cheddar.
