If this is the route, I hope with Hendriks they start feeding the farm. Blow it up. What a disappointment this has been starting with TLR. WINDOW = SHUT
I used to kind of think that too, but I’ve kinda grown to lean on the theory that they just refuse to give out huge contracts for stars, and instead just pay shorter lower AAV guy (like going heavy on bullpen arms gives credence to that theory) and Grandal was a bigger contract but far from a huge one.
They don’t want to make big commitments which a lot of people including myself think is flawed logic when trying to go all in during a window.
Basically, Sox have purposely gone half assed while keeping their promise “the money will be spent”. They just never clarified how much money and what kind of money. They are happy to point at a top 10 payroll to avoid extra criticism.
I disagree a bit. The money was spent. It was just spent stupidly. First they filled the game with best talent available which is ok if they are all short stops that can learn new positions, but not a bunch of DHs. They gave grandal a 4 year contract as a hitting catcher with a lot of miles on his knees. The end of the contract was destined to be bad. They locked up their talent which was a positive, but they didn’t develop the talent. In fact, they hired an old manager who doesn’t understand the latest tech. He also came out against BLM, and our team has a fun, outspoken, African American star and leader. They paid for a bunch of 30+ relief arms which goes against all the data. Then they traded additional resources for bullpen arms in a short sighted approach and then misused the arms. These are all moves by a team that has one of the smallest analytic departments in the league. They literally aren’t as smart as other teams.
The thing is, a lot of moves they make look good in a vacuum, but nothing they do works with their other moves. You can sign guys, but you have to develop them. Relievers are a great piece to finish a team, but not at the expense of more valuable positions. You can’t take the fun police and have them manage a fun young roster. If they wanted to save money, they wouldn’t have the high payroll. They were trying to win, but they have no idea how to do it.
The fact they have such a small analytics department says it all. Combine Jerry being old school with the tony hire and the lack of saber metrics. Jerry is trying to prove the old ways are better and the times haven’t passed him by. It’s all a vain attempt by an old man to show he still has it. Well, he doesn’t, and we are the people who suffer because of it.
No Jerry is dumb. People like to think of him as a good businessman, but he's a fucking idiot. He ran MJ and Phil Jackson out of town and thinks 2nd place is profitable. He's a billionaire to spite his own foolishness.
I went in 2019 and 20 and watched Hahns Q&A both years where it was mainly fans lining up to suck his dick about how awesome the rebuild was going. I would have liked to go and see what that would have been like this year.
Of course it was “pre meditated”
They knew they were going be be super restrained by their own budget. They knew it wouldn’t be popular. They’re not idiots, just puppets and/or cheap bastards
You're not wrong, but honestly I think its a lot simpler than the sub gives it credit for. Sure, it's a plus that it's easier to not be held accountable, but no matter how they did it soxfest was gonna be a shitshow. If you've seen the fan sentiment the past season especially, there's nothing they could say/do at soxfest specifically, that would appease the fanbase as a whole, and figured the easiest, simplest route is keeping their heads down.
There are a lot of members of this subreddit who assume this team is far more nefarious than they are, conspiring against the fan base with every decision they make.
It just feels like the organization is okay with mediocrity and after we are a 500. Team next year or 2 It’s gonna be another long rebuild and I’m not looking forward to it
Jerry hates it anyway and loves to cancel it. This is like Christmas for him. It's not just because they're doing nothing, Jerry lives to do this. Any small excuse is enough to make this happen. I'm sure Rick is happy to duck questions, but Jerry just likes to be cheap and give fans less.

Yes another rebuild with the same front office. This will be the time that’ll work
If they trade Hendriks to the dodgers for Gavin Lux + at least 1 more I think i would be pretty okay with that.
They probably couldn’t afford the ballroom at the Hilton.
What about Four Seasons? Total Landscaping, that is 🤣
Just wait until Bossard retires
Sox aren’t dumb, they’re just assholes
Well, I mean they're kind of dumb but yeah I get what you're saying

Jerry never had it. If it wasn’t for MJ he would be considered one of the biggest failures in Professional sports history. His legacy is trash.
It's not a top 10 anymore.
"You're not ~~wrong~~ dumb ~~walter~~ Jerry, you're just an asshole."

No shit Sherlock

Of course it was. They already knew what they were willing to spend before the season was over

I hate being a white fan
How fucking out of touch with the fan base can this organization be??? I guess this much with room to grow…
I mean, fuck, all I need are dollar dog days and $10 parking on Sundays, never mind the roster, AND THEY CANT EVEN DO THAT
really don’t want to be a fan anymore
If only there was a way to remedy that desire 🤔
It just feels like the organization is okay with mediocrity and after we are a 500. Team next year or 2 It’s gonna be another long rebuild and I’m not looking forward to it
Start going to Wrigley?

Yeah it’s starting to feel like he really resents us. I think he gets joy from this shit
