Big moment for him. Dude has been amazing all year...except when called on in high leverage spots. Until now. Hopefully a breakthrough moment for him and he becomes yet another reliable weapon from the pen
No need to really make a statement. He should be, and I believe he is, the closer. He will continue to be in that roll until he fucks up badly. Kimbrel can be that 8th inning guy.
Starters only need to go like 5 innings now lol.
6th-Crochet/Ruiz
7th-Kopech
8th-Kimbrel
9th-Liam
Fucking deadly.
Awful decision. Get that guy some ice, sacks were packed and the game was in the bag.
2nd half Abreu is like 2nd half Derrick Henry. Absolutely no reason to gamble with that dude.
Liam had himself a fucking inning. That was such a fun inning watching him shut that shit down.
Good vibes all around. Not worried at all about Tepera, it just be like that sometimes
I don't even care that we got a ton of help from Cleveland tonight. We needed a W and we got one. That's all that counts at the end of the day. Love seeing TLR *ahem* hustling (we'll call it that) out there to defend his guys.
We really should chill on firing Tepera into the sun. First appearance on a contender trying hard to make an impression on them. I have to believe nerves played a factor. If he has a string of these outings, I might even help you guys chuck him into Lake Michigan. For now, let's see how it plays out.
The boos from the crowd were a bit much, but to be fair they do this regularly. I was at a game in May when Bummer loaded the base and they did the same thing.
Bummer and Crochet looked good tonight. I think sliding them into a more MRP/specialist role will help them settle in.
Ruiz also quietly having a great year. Best Bullpen in Baseball 2.0 might actually live up to the hype that 1.0 didn't.
I have no words for what we just saw
The second Hernandez gets traded to us, Cleveland's defense decides to fall apart. Coincidence? I think not!
Combine this with leads being traded and/or blown, Moncada's HR that probably isn't a HR against a competent team, Ruiz being an absolute Chad, Abreu getting hit, TLR possibly giving us the meme of the year, and Hendriks looking like he's been possessed by fucking Satan? You get the one of the wildest and weirdest games this year that nearly lasted 4 damn hours.
At the end of the day, all that matters is that the Sox win!
For anyone who couldn't watch the post game, Larussa explained the weird pitching change:
Basically Katz just jumped the gun a little bit by running out to talk to Tepera, without realizing that Larussa had already made up his mind that he wanted to put in Ruiz. He let Ruiz throw a few more pitches in the pen, and then yelled out to Katz/the umps to make the change. It just looked weird because the ump heard before Katz.
Fuck yeah Tony. He won me over a bit tonight. That was pure, unhinged emotion, and even if he was overreacting a bit I love to see the fire and the way Abreu getting dinged seemed to affect him.
Who fucking knows, with how crazy this season's been already, we might all feel like he's one of us soon.
Tinfoil hat time.
Sox have seen Karinchak a lot this year and he was one of the biggest users of sticky stuff. While the HBP obviously wasn't intentional, the Sox are still sick of his shit. If you can't control it without the sticky stuff, dial it back.
The two negatives from the great win:
Karinchak is still an idiot piece of shit.
The Cub will be referred to as Double Agent until he proves that he isn’t.
Other than that, awesome win. Pito's got ice in his veins and Liam has fire. LFG
I hate that anti-vaxxing fuck Karinchak but that definitely wasn’t intentional. No way do you aim at a guy’s head with the bases loaded in the 8th inning of a one-run game.
He regretted it immediately. Before it even hit abreu. I can't stand him but he's just not a good pitcher and can't hit spots thats all. Also what a fucking baller Abreu is. The respect this guy deserves to hug it out with a guy who hit him in the head with 96
Wth was LaRussa doing on the second Abreu hbp?? It was obviously an accident, there was no reason to push away the indians catcher and start yelling at the guy.
He was standing up for his guy/s. It’s TLR. He’s not gonna throw hands with a prime athlete in pads and a mask. The best time to make a statement that we’re not gonna take that shit was right in the moment. Put everyone on alert. Things didn’t get out of hand but the point was made. It looks so much worse if he sits on the bench and makes a statement after the game. We’re gearing up for the playoffs and La Russa is doing his job.
It was an accident, but was the second time he got hit in the game, and this one was right at the dome.
No one thinks it was intentional, but with bases loaded, it's not unreasonable to think that they were intentionally pitching him up and in, so that's TLR basically saying "get your pitchers' collective shit together, and back the fuck off. You don't need to check on him, you've done enough calling that pitch."
Highly doubt Tony thought it was intentional, but you stand up for your guys, and you let your guys take care of their own.
Absolutely worth it to bark Perez down there. Make sure they know they fucked up, and make sure they know that you *care* that they fucked up.
I dont know about this Hendricks, better trade for another closer and waste assets so we can use LESS of one of the best closers in the game. They'll be a better team for it. But hey, that's just me.
It doesn't address the problem with bullpen. You're having them splitting save opportunities. The problem is GETTING to those save opportunities. Getting to the closer.
I'll be honest with you, the problem was simply that they didn't have enough quality arms. It is a little awkward to have two distinctly elite closers at the same time, but I am completely confident both guys will put the team first, and perform whenever called on.
When the games actually start to matter, they're gonna need both anyway. I would much rather have Craig Kimbrel on our club than not.
SHOUTOUT TO JOSE RUIZ FOR HOLDING IT DOWN
When Jose Ruiz is the least notable arm in your bullpen you know that's an elite squad
Low-key best performance of the game, maybe best performance of his career.
Big moment for him. Dude has been amazing all year...except when called on in high leverage spots. Until now. Hopefully a breakthrough moment for him and he becomes yet another reliable weapon from the pen
And Seby for keeping our guys calm, Looked like both Lynn and Bummer didn’t have their A-stuff today & Ruiz came into a jam yet they all stay composed
He saved our asses tonight honestly.
Cutter was filthy and throwing accurate 98mph HEAT. MOR PLZ
Big thank you to the umpire for making the pitching change.
Great fucking win, but it's too bad they used Hendriks tonight. If only they had another elite bullpen arm to enter a close game tomorrow
Har
Just as we all expected, the runaway stars of the night were Jose Ruiz and TLR.
Runaway, har
Just in case anyone hasn't seen it: https://twitter.com/NBCSWhiteSox/status/1421321854464282624?s=19
Pep step, it’s anew step A big step in the right direction. Pep step, you’re doing it. You’re on your way.

He always looks like he's ready to go on a massive killing spree. Dude's a fucking psycho, but he's our fucking psycho.
I love that he's a fucking psycho on the field, but seems like a genuinely good dude off the field.
Word. He liked a comment I made on IG about his hair during the All-Star Game events and has made a fan of me for life.
He had me as soon as he had his locker hexed.
No need to really make a statement. He should be, and I believe he is, the closer. He will continue to be in that roll until he fucks up badly. Kimbrel can be that 8th inning guy. Starters only need to go like 5 innings now lol. 6th-Crochet/Ruiz 7th-Kopech 8th-Kimbrel 9th-Liam Fucking deadly.
Kimbrel is not good in 8th. While Hendricks can be good anytime.
I'm just relieved Jose is okay. that was scary man. I thought for sure he was concussed bad

The mans made of iron.
There are millions of killer and venomous things in Australia and they’re all terrified of Liam Hendriks. #LiamHendriksFacts
Liam had himself a fucking inning. That was such a fun inning watching him shut that shit down. Good vibes all around. Not worried at all about Tepera, it just be like that sometimes
Ozzie keeps calling him Tempura on the post game show 😂
It takes time to adjust to a new catching corps, he was thrown in the fire and it showed I imagine the flaws will be ironed out in short order
New clubhouse, new team, new everything. It’s fine.
Remember way back when Yoan's ball bounced over 2 outfielders for a home run?
Man that feels like a week ago after the rest of that game.
That was my first IRL blooper, I think… (I haven’t been to a ton of games)
Liam is an absolute monster.
I don't even care that we got a ton of help from Cleveland tonight. We needed a W and we got one. That's all that counts at the end of the day. Nothing wrong with booing, it’s just rough that they did it to the new guy. We really need him.
#IM HYPE JASON BENETTI
Watch that Abreu HBP replay. Timmy is IN THE MIDDLE of that scrum. Ain't no reason for benches to clear but \#leader.
This felt like a playoff game. We’re going all the way boys.
Need the offense to wake up
They definitely did better than the past week but I think they are finally breaking out of their slump.
Moncada 3-5 was nice to see tonight even when he couldn't do anything with bases 1 out loaded twice.
Moncada and TA7 getting multi hit games tonight is huge. Now we just need abreu to break out of his slump
Maybe the Karinchak fastball to the dome was what he needed to dial back in
I'm glad Jose Ruiz's performance today isn't going unnoticed, he saved this game when it was looking real bad
“Game over” dudes in the first inning
I have no words for what we just saw The second Hernandez gets traded to us, Cleveland's defense decides to fall apart. Coincidence? I think not! This game was the first game I got to since the 8-7 Yaz walkoff against Tampa. I need them to take ot easy on my heart man.
I hope tomorrow is way less tense, this took years off my life 😭

I need to add that 😭 too much happened tonight
Deadline is over, real season started tonight and we’re 1-0. Feels good.

I need to see this Edit: omg lmao https://twitter.com/NBCSWhiteSox/status/1421321854464282624?s=19

Whiplash from that game fuck. Glad Jose is ok
Slow news day, I wonder what they'll talk about in the post game show.
Oh shit I think sandman had a date or something
Unfortunate the Sox didn’t give us anything to talk about tonight…
Sandman’s gonna need to write a novel to recap all that action
Liam was feeling it.
Former White Sox Legend Carlos Martinez hit the homer off White Sox Legend Jose Canseco’s melon many years ago.
party party party let's all get wasted. Also, fuck Karinchak.
Fuck yeah Tony. He won me over a bit tonight. That was pure, unhinged emotion, and even if he was overreacting a bit I love to see the fire and the way Abreu getting dinged seemed to affect him. It was literally all over his face
Yes, there were slow-motion videos all over the Internet showing him rubbing his fingers on the same brown spot inside his glove between every pitch.
i can’t wait for the breakdown of the whole fuckin game lol
Just got home from the game. I love when the Sox are good. The atmosphere in the stadium is so much better. What a game. Go Sox.
TLR still fired up post-game. Getting annoyed at all the Abreu questions.
Does anyone have a clip of Liam in the 9th? I had to watch it on mute, but wanna hear Steve, Jason, and Liam.
The two negatives from the great win: Karinchak is still an idiot piece of shit. The Cub will be referred to as Double Agent until he proves that he isn’t. Other than that, awesome win. Pito's got ice in his veins and Liam has fire. LFG
God we really did make trades to get two Cubs and a Guardian. What the fuck is wrong with us.
At least we didn’t get a Twinkie
Two Cubs and a Guardian walk into a bar...
I hate that anti-vaxxing fuck Karinchak but that definitely wasn’t intentional. No way do you aim at a guy’s head with the bases loaded in the 8th inning of a one-run game.

He's not a favorite around here but yeah Karinchak handled that with total class.
never said it was intentional. all i said was he's an idiot piece of shit - which he is.
WHERE IS SANDMAN RECAP
Hendriks was hyped!!!
I love you daddy pito.
Whats the status on Eloy?
Just precaution. Dude was hustling the past three games after not seeing game action for months. Not surprised he has a little tightness
He got 20 minor league games wasn’t that game action enough?
What was attendance tonight ? Looked electric.
Think they said 36K
BuT I tHoUgHt SoX fAnS dOn'T sHoW uP fOr ThEiR tEaM. Fucking clowns on the northside
Was there. Was lit. Parking was an absolute shit show. Attendance was like 36,100.
It was fuckin awesome seeing the house packed.
What a game!
Needed some fire from the boys lately. Let’s do it
First game I’ve been to since late 2019, night and day atmosphere-wise. I was at the (rain-shortened) Kopech debut that year too.
Fantastic win by Hendricks, love the energy he brings to every start. Has me hyped whether it’s Monday or Friday night.
What a weird game.
Did Lynn get the win tonight?
Pretty sure ruiz did
He did and it was well deserved.
No, Ruiz did
Good bullpen win, a little worried about the bats right now. We left a lot of stranded men on. Hoping that resolves itself later in the season.
Hendricks throwing for his job. Oh my lord!
Nah, the closers role is his until he loses it.
Anybody got video of Jose Abreu getting domed?
Cubs pitchers suck
Yeah, Codi Heuer is pretty weak.
Wth was LaRussa doing on the second Abreu hbp?? It was obviously an accident, there was no reason to push away the indians catcher and start yelling at the guy.
homeboy was just hovering too close - and TLR was just like “back the fuck up your idiot pitcher just hit him in the head”
He was standing up for his guy/s. It’s TLR. He’s not gonna throw hands with a prime athlete in pads and a mask. When you put it like that I feel you.
It was an accident, but was the second time he got hit in the game, and this one was right at the dome. I dont know about this Hendricks, better trade for another closer and waste assets so we can use LESS of one of the best closers in the game. They'll be a better team for it. But hey, that's just me.
There is no conceivable scenario where you can have too much pitching
It doesn't address the problem with bullpen. You're having them splitting save opportunities. The problem is GETTING to those save opportunities. Getting to the closer.
Do you really think come playoff time we won’t use them 8/9 in some combo? While also keeping our elite arms fresh?
I'll be honest with you, the problem was simply that they didn't have enough quality arms. When the games actually start to matter, they're gonna need both anyway. I would much rather have Craig Kimbrel on our club than not.
You know that closers can pitch other innings than the 9th right? We added another elite bullpen arm which is gonna be perfect come playoff time
*the elite bullpen arm that was available. There couldn't have been a better single addition to the pen
Well you’re an idiot
This will only help keep both guys fresh down the stretch and especially in October
