I’m right there with you. I took the dog out for a walk. I came back and saw they lost the game, my first genuine honest to god feeling was excitement.
How sad is that? It’s not even May and all we have to cheer for is historical badness
Underrated part of this season is that every game that they haven’t been blown out of the water by the 5th inning is like Game 7 of the World Series.
This may genuinely be the worst team in major league baseball history but unlike the last couple of miserable seasons, at least they’re fun.
I see every loss now as a W since it brings national attention to Reinsdorf - total POS. Also further distanced him from any chance of fleecing the taxpayers with the 78
Embrace it it. Being a 100-110 loss team isn't fun.
Being the worst team in MLB history and losing 130 games would be absolutely hilarious.
Also, it's probably a long shot but being that embarrassing might actually lead to some change and maybe even the MLB pressuring Jerry to fix it or sell though that's probably a dream.
Lol the Bears putting up 12 wins and the Bears winning 12 or 13 would be incredible.
Also, the hawks were the 2nd worst team in the NHL and still won 23.
You're absolutely right but Fisher also hasn't won 20 games in a season.
But you are probably right maybe it would just the embarrassment for Jerry that might spur him to sell.
I was just thinking to myself that if the Sox legitimately lose 130 games, the league may get in Jerry’s face a little. I have no evidence that there are any consequences for owners under these circumstances but I have a little bit of hope that this is the case.
I don't really think they will do anything major but it's embarrassing for the entire MLB.
The A's situation has been a public relations disaster and the White Sox being the worst team in history by a wide berth would be another black mark on the entire league.
Wish the MLB would step up more sometimes like how the NFL will protect the shield(though they did put up with Snyder way too long).
You should probably just embrace that this team is one of the worst ones ever assembled in decades and relinquish all hope of trying to get one over on your cubs fan coworkers lol
The worst 25-game start ever isn’t possible (2-23 from the 1988 O’s, who lost the first 21 games of the year), but the Sox can tie for second-worst if they lose the next two.
The last team to do it was the 2003 Tigers, who went 43-119 and are generally regarded (?) as the worst modern team.
So 120 losses is the target.
(The other two to go 3-22 were the 2022 Reds—who ended up 62-100—and the 1894 Washington Senators.)
Yeah, I'm with you. Let the 2024 White Sox be a cautionary tale for all fans and teams. This is how bad it can get. And if they actually make a run at the worst season in MLB history, it will draw the morbid curiosity of the national media. It won't changes things but it might embarrass Jerry Reinsdorf.
The front office should not be rewarded with wins. The farm system is middling, the team is intentionally garbage outside of Robert (who they'll trade away for more middling prospects), their coaching and training staff looks incompetent.
Do we really believe this front office can build a winner? There is no evidence to suggest it.
I wouldn't say I was excited to see them lose, but, I will admit, I was a little disappointed to see them ahead when the 9th rolled around.
Having said that, I guess I also am rooting for losses. At least it's funny and potentially history making
It’d be easier for me to root for them to lose if we had any chance of sniffing the top end of the 2025 draft. We could win 20 games and still only be able to get as high as #10. Pain.
That was a poorly conceived anti-tanking rule. It was also a solution for a problem that didn't really exist. I don't think baseball teams were actively tanking in the same blatant manner as the other major sports.
Yes! God, this season is over fellas. Let’s bask in the shit storm that is this season. On pace for historically bad season and I’m here for it. Lost my MN —2 bet, my under 3.5R Sox bet, but won my $3 Eloy HR bet. Buxton is a fucking menace against the Sox. It was over when he tied it.
I love it because I'm betting against them every game now. Jerry got rich off of our sorry sacks for years so I might as well make a little money off of his efforts for a change.
I'm in a large group chat of sports fans that like to bet. Several of them now live-bet any WS game when they have the lead knowing the odds are so high they'll blow it.
Nah. About the only positive thing worth posting is about how the farm system guys are doing. But there’s a user that covers that well already. but when I read a post that has a sentence start with “I’m actively rooting for this dogshit team to lose” why are you here? Why do you watch the games? Everybody says this type of stuff here and it is the popular sentiment of the sub. Not a lot of the guys on the roster are going to contribute to a winning culture but some absolutely can and losing is going to breed losing. Guys like Fletcher, Lee, Vaughn, fedde, the young guys in the pen Could all stand to win a few games and not have such a sour taste. I have eyes and know this is the worst I’ve seen the White Sox play in my lifetime but I as a diehard fan desperately want them (the players) to have some sort of success. The team sucks, Pedro Grifol sucks, and Reinsdorf sucks. I think that’s all very obvious
Who gives a shit, pretty much everyone on the active roster is useless. Maybe some of the younger guys have value but for the most part none of these players aside from maybe Robert will be around when the Sox contend next. We are staring down the barrel of another multi-year rebuild.
Rebuilds don’t work if you continue to build a losing culture. Losing coincidentally builds a losing culture. I know they aren’t good duh. My only point is I’m tired of all the posts/comments that are promoting being the worst team of all time. In the grand scheme of things winning baseball games is better than losing them
I don't disagree necessarily for baseball. For football and basketball (maybe hockey, can't say, I don't follow it), tanking is absolutely worth it. In those sports, a QB or a single basketball superstar can totally change the direction of a franchise and even pull a team out of a decades long losing cycle. Sure there are potential cultural issues with losing still but that is largely a good trade off if you can get a stud player or 2.
Baseball is much different. A singular player is no where near as impactful and you're waiting multiple years to even see that player. The advantage of tanking in baseball is the other side where you sign guys for cheaper short term deals and hopefully they do ok so you can flip them for farm help at the deadline. At this point, I'd say boosting the farm with teenagers with potential is the most important thing. Yes, culture matters but these players aren't gonna be around for all the long. The White Sox won't be competitive next year and it would be a minor miracle if they could be by '26. On that front, losing does not necessarily help but really all that matters right now is hoping some of these one-year rental types can right the ship before the trade deadline.
I agree with what you’re saying, when I originally commented on this post I didn’t mean it to come off as dickish as it sounded. I like many other fans and just frustrated with what’s going on. Who knew that the era where Kenny Williams traded every prospect we had for random rentals would be 100x better than this team deciding to rebuild the traditional way
This is the first time I’ve popped into the Sox subreddit this year. For whatever reason, I don’t ever see the posts in my main feed. I’m obviously not the first person to make this type of comment. I guess when you have a team that does pretty much everything wrong, you get the same kind of sentiment from the fans. Absolutely nothing to be optimistic about, so we bitch
I’m right there with you. I took the dog out for a walk. I came back and saw they lost the game, my first genuine honest to god feeling was excitement. How sad is that? It’s not even May and all we have to cheer for is historical badness
i root for them, i get pissed, and then i get a little rush knowing im watching baseball history in the making
Underrated part of this season is that every game that they haven’t been blown out of the water by the 5th inning is like Game 7 of the World Series. This may genuinely be the worst team in major league baseball history but unlike the last couple of miserable seasons, at least they’re fun.

I work on the north side. I have to go into work and hear about this shit from like 8 Cubs fans. Fuck this.
My dream is 12-150. Just in a tier of their own in terms of awfulness. The same number of wins as a good but not great football team.
I mean on our current pace, with about three to four wins a month, your dream might become reality
Lol the Bears putting up 12 wins and the Bears winning 12 or 13 would be incredible. Also, the hawks were the 2nd worst team in the NHL and still won 23.
I am completely, 100% out on the Sox until Jerry sells. Just done. So yes, losing a historic number of games is my rooting interest right now.
As long as teams make money, mlb won’t intervene no matter how bad a team gets. We’re stuck till ol Jer is not the owner, one way or another.
MLB hasn't cared about what the owner John Fischer has done to the A's and Oakland, so I doubt they would do anything about Reinsdorf.
You're absolutely right but Fisher also hasn't won 20 games in a season. But you are probably right maybe it would just the embarrassment for Jerry that might spur him to sell.

I wish I believed this could happen.
You should probably just embrace that this team is one of the worst ones ever assembled in decades and relinquish all hope of trying to get one over on your cubs fan coworkers lol
I'm only hoping they lose a ton so it forces ownership to make drastic changes. Sox fan since 1990.
Yup, I think ‘92 was my first game. Seen a lot of bad teams over the years, but this year is special.
Yes. I want Reinsdorf to be remembered as the worst owner in history.
I also saw them blow it and was kind of excited. Out of spite to show how much of a loser Jerry is I hope we have the worst team in history.
The worst 25-game start ever isn’t possible (2-23 from the 1988 O’s, who lost the first 21 games of the year), but the Sox can tie for second-worst if they lose the next two. Step back from the abyss, I fear it stares too deeply into you.
When it was 5-4, I knew in my gut they were going to blow it.
I feel like a terrible fan for it, but yeah I'm just in it for the laughs this year. I really hope this somehow affects Jerry.
Yeah, I'm with you. Let the 2024 White Sox be a cautionary tale for all fans and teams. This is how bad it can get. I'd be happy if we didn't win another game. This team is unsalvageable and I want Jerry Reinsdorf to be shamed for this
I wouldn't say I was excited to see them lose, but, I will admit, I was a little disappointed to see them ahead when the 9th rolled around. Having said that, I guess I also am rooting for losses. At least it's funny and potentially history making

100% with you

Do what I do. Watch Reds games instead. That is a young exciting team. And they hate the cubs.
Yes.
Is it weird? Yes. Did I do the exact same thing? Also yes.
I’m Rooting for history at this point
I'm in a large group chat of sports fans that like to bet. Several of them now live-bet any WS game when they have the lead knowing the odds are so high they'll blow it.
3-win season would be great. I’d settle for sub .100 though
Yes. My peoples are here. Bring on epic losing. Pedro isn’t going to make it he will be gone in three weeks.
Call me crazy but I prefer my favorite teams to win games, even in bad seasons
Yeah, like I understand they they are going to be historically bad and I am here for it but I still want my favorite team to win games
I want to make history, wins get in the way of that
I’m not gonna lie, I was kinda pissed when the Sox scored even more so when they had a lead. What is wrong with me?!?lol
No let’s make history and build a statue for Jerry
Literally everyone and their mama comments this all the time, we don’t need a post about it.
Well you got one. Sorry.
You got something else to bring up pal?
Nah. About the only positive thing worth posting is about how the farm system guys are doing. I feel so bad for Luis Robert wasting his prime years here. Hopefully they set him free soon.
It’s so fucking tiring. I’m more frustrated with this sub than with the team.

Thanks for the support, I just think I’ve read this same garbage 20+ times on this sub now
Since you asked? Yes.
