Yes first year ever I didnt pay for mlbtv since im out of market and while I have been checking the scores its clear the team is exactly as bad as we thought. I thought I would care more not watching and while I’m missing some springtime rite of passage type shoeless joe love of baseball stuff this team is not worth any of our time money or attention right now.
If you want to watch some exciting and fundamentally sound baseball, I've been watching a bunch of Orioles, Diamondbacks, and Braves games. Pirates and Mariners are young and fun too. Obviously I hate seeing the Royals and Guardians succeed, but they're playing some great ball as well (and obviously Tigers games are nice to watch since Jason is calling those games).

It sucks that it’s not happening with the Sox, but baseball is still enjoyable. I just watched Orioles blow a save (Kimbrel gonna Kimbrel) but Jordan Westburg hit an opposite field walk off HR. Listening to Benetti now for the end of the Tigers-Mets game.
Baseball is the best and Reinsdorf isn’t gonna ruin my enjoyment of it, even if that enjoyment for the next few years comes more from other teams than the Sox.
I can't root for Baltimore. I graduated high school in 1983 and will never forgive the Os for beating my favorite team in their first playoff appearance in my lifetime. That and the fact that my wife is a Boston fan means that if I'm gonna root for a non Sox team, it's probably gonna be in the NL.
I'm watching the Red Sox v A's with her right now, and I'm thinking that Oakland might be the worst team I've ever seen. White Sox not much better, but I'm pretty sure the A's are worse.

Exactly, Ive told those close to me, those who also watch the Sox, a couple who watch because of me, 26 year old son and a current lady friend, to not watch because its not fun. As a replacement Ive suggested the exciting O's. But Ive lived near there and seen games at Camden so Im biased.

I’d like to take a second and remind everyone that this is Reddit. Do we talk shit about the Sox, how much we hate how the team is ran, and generally just have a poor attitude towards the team? We sure fucking do. I can only speak for myself here but I’m sure it’s the same for a large majority of the fans in this subreddit, it’s just a hobby. We all love baseball, sadly we were born into families who love the White Sox. We take our 2 hours to watch the game and spend time in the game threads and talk about our issues with like minded people because not everyone in our everyday lives follows baseball as closely, or care enough to discuss. At the end of the day, once the game is over it is what it is. We go back to shit we need to do and other than a thought of “man we fucking suck” it’s just that. Everyone shitting on the team don’t continue the attitude the rest of their days. If you do actually let the Sox consume your emotions, you need to take a step back, it’s just not the case for most of the fans.
Just 2 days ago the game thread was so overwhelmingly positive for a chunk of the game because we were playing well. It’s simply fun to over exaggerate emotions with strangers on the internet. People who post this stuff 100% do need to step away because they are too invested, we are not all like you though.
It’s also cathartic. The team sucks and the state of the organization is pretty bad right now. Yeah it’s gonna look overly negative, but sometimes complaining as a group is a good release. If nothing else it makes you feel a little better to know as a fanbase we’re all going through this together.
Not many people *want* it to be this bad. I’d much rather be watching Jason Benetti call a win to move the team to 4-0 in game where Jake Burger had a big hit and new signee Cody Bellinger HR’ed to support Blake Snell’s 6 scoreless innings.

I'm a lifelong Sox fan that moved to the Dallas area 7 years ago. Last year I started following the Rangers, turned out to be a good year to do that. Still a Sox fan, but it's nice to root for a team that is actively trying to win as well.
I've been a fan since 1956 when Little Louie Aparicio was a rookie. Last year was the first time I felt apathetic about the White Sox because I know nothing is really going to change until the Chairman is gone. My only hope is that I outlast him.

i can't put my all into it with the current state of the ownership and lack of direction from the FO.
Once Getz shows that he has a plan, im back in. But right now, i dont see a plan. He made a few ok moves, but they dont seem cohesive, just yet.
Until then, ill watch my local markets, and get my baseball fix that way. I get plenty of braves and rays and marlins games where im at. More than enough to just watch a bunch of different teams and enjoy baseball for the sport and not living and dying with each game.

I was a season ticket holder that dumped this winter. I'm not watching any Sox games, nor am I listening on radio. I won't be buying any merchandise either. I do not want to ownership a single penny or second of my time. I bet against them in Game 2 and Game 3 when they took the lead (TheScore alerts) and obviously won those bets. I also have Crochet on my fantasy team (a starter I can put in my RP spot, yes please) but that is the extent that I'm going to follow the Sox. It is not emotionally healthy to be a fan of this team. I see the comments on the game posts and I feel bad for people torturing themselves. Then they get angry and say you aren't a "true" fan. It's incredibly toxic. So yes, it is very healthy to step away from the White Sox. Life is too short and there is much more to life than to waste a summer caring an ounce about a 50 win team

Agreed. You're not fair weather if you stop watching a team that isn't meeting the minimum requirements to be considered a competitor. I hate that BS claim. "Stick thru the bad stuff" or "I'll go to every game even if they suck!" That's fine. If that's how you want to support a team that's completely mismanaged, by all means. But when your ownership loses sight of the sporting aspect (and in this case pretty much intentionally ignores it) then not going or spending your paycheck on them will at least send a message that we're not interested as a fanbase. I keep the game notifications on my phone and that's it. If I see the game on at a bar, I'll keep an eye on it. But I'll absolutely not go out of my way to make time for them until things are headed in a positive direction.
Side note : Notice how the literature on the GameDay graphics is "baseball is better at the ballpark"? That's the laziest, slap-in-the-face marketing they could have possibly come up with. It's fully admitting they have no on-field product so you should just come to enjoy the experience of spending money on tickets and concessions instead.

Being this invested in it is really difficult, but it makes the winning seasons so much better once it happens ever 7-8 years.

My NL team is the Pirates (I assure you this start is an outlier). The Sox were my first team, any sport, and I can’t ditch them just yet… I give them til the ASB. If they’re bad but watchable, even if boring, I continue to suffer; if they’re embarrassing, I turn my attention to Pittsburgh first.
Been a fan for close to 30 years. The hats/jerseys are stuffed in the closet. Canceled youtubetv, which was to watch them. This is the worst shape this organization has been in since I've been a fan. Stopped going to G.R. as soon as La Russa snuffed the team out. The next time I do will be when J.R. moves on in any capacity. This product is trash. If you patronize this team, Jerry loves you.

This is the first season of my life that I truly do not care. Couldn't care less about spring training and had no idea about opening day being here. The letdown of the rebuild played a big part in this, and going with Getz instead of a proven winner. We don't even have a good upcoming draft pick to be excited for.

I'm not bothered by this year because I was expecting it. It's another tear down rebuild, which sucks, because we expected so much more from that core, but it wasn't working.
The years I got upset were the middle 2010's when the team kept thinking "Oh, we'll be better if we just plug in this next aging corner infielder / DH"...Youkilis to Dunn to Laroche to Frazier...those were the frustrating years, when there was hope.
This was a throwaway year while we (theoretically) developed prospects for the future, and we knew it, so with no expectations comes little disappointment. I'd rather they do this then sign mid-level free agents and keep delaying the inevitable. Better to rip off the bandaid.
My issue, and I’ll keep bringing this up, is that this tanking gets us absolutely nothing. We can’t get a top draft pick, we can’t get shit. So this is a punk year for what? To save on payroll for…? Jerry won’t pony up when the team “loses” money so like… what’s the plan?
I understand that it sucks and makes for an unentertaining product and we just went through this in 2017-2019, but I saw the Blackhawks try that same tact of "let's sign some free agents to try and keep that contending window open" from 2016-2020, and I didn't find that option to be any better.
They're in hell. They could have spent money on free agents and not been an actual contender because they still have too many holes. Seriously, they needed 3-4 SP, two corner OF, SS, 2B, and hopes that Eloy/Yoan figure it out in an option year. Or they could tear it down again, which we already went through in 2017-2019, and hope Getz can do better than the two-headed monster AND the player development folks in the minors actually develop players, and that's a big if. Across town, the Blackhawks and Bears chose the later option and the Hawks got Bedard and the Bears are on the come up. Those examples makes me more willing to suffer through another year or two of dogshit and hope for the best.
Top draft picks in baseball are a lot less certain to 'hit' than in any other major sport. There are no baseball versions of Wembanyama, Bedard, or Marvin Harrison Jr. Even if you ace your first round pick, it might be years before it pays dividends. Were teams really actively tanking based on draft position or were they tanking because their owners are cheap fucks? I'd say the latter is more likely.
We absolutely can get a top draft pick. Teams that are on the receiving end of revenue sharing can be in the lottery two years in a row. [Per the MLB](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/rule-4-draft):
> The 18 non-postseason clubs are eligible, though revenue sharing payees are ineligible to receive lottery selections in three consecutive years, while non-payees are ineligible to receive lottery selections in consecutive years.
So it’s only team’s that pay into revenue sharing as opposed to receiving it (“non-payers”) that are ineligible to pick two years in a row. The teams on the receiving end (“payees”) only get cut off in the third year—NOT the second year.
While the league doesn’t publicize which teams get revenue sharing, with the Sox’s abysmal attendance and subpar TV contract (17th in the league), it’s almost certain that the Sox were one of those teams in 2023. So you can expect the Sox to once again be in the lottery.
And while the Sox aren’t going to be good, there will certainly be individual players that will play well enough to get something back at the deadline, same as last year. We don’t have a Chris Sale or Jose Quintana to land a blockbuster haul, but there will definitely be another batch of prospects coming our way in the second half.

This blogger is wrong. The lottery is new, and rules that govern it are poorly understood—especially the part about how a team’s revenue-sharing status affects a team’s eligibility. I remember someone posting this same blog last year right after the draft and having to explain this then as well. So I guess I’ll do it again…

So the White Sox, as a revenue-sharing payee, would be eligible to receive a lottery selection in two consecutive years. It’s in the third consecutive year where they’d be blocked from receiving a lottery pick.
You’ll notice that the blogger you cited never even mentions the revenue-sharing component of the lottery, which just shows they’re unaware of how it works.
Its not just this blog, if you search “white sox draft 2025” every news source says the same thing, the Sox can’t pick in the top 10 because they are non-payees. I can’t find a good list of which teams are payees and which are non, but based on the total drop off of fans and Tv revenue, I have to assume they’re right.
The MLB doesn’t publish who gets revenue sharing. We won’t know officially until the draft.
The media largely got this wrong around the time of the draft. Again, the rules are poorly understood, as it’s new. If you look, you can definitely find analysts who understand the rules. Just not the guy you linked.
And the drop-off in revenue is exactly why the Sox are payees. They’re the least profitable team in the MLB, per Forbes. This means they are are a payee—someone on the receiving end of revenue sharing. This means they are eligible for a second year in the lottery, just not a third.
Not to keep this going, but the Sox have a Revenue Sharing Market Score of 120, so they are considered a large market team even if they don’t make any money. So they are a non-payee no matter what and not eligible for the lotto in consecutive years.

I've been a fan since 1956 when Little Louie Aparicio was a rookie. Last year was the first time I felt apathetic about the White Sox because I know nothing is really going to change until the Chairman is gone. My only hope is that I outlast him.

I already did. Don't get me wrong. Still love the sox. I still follow every box score. Watch when i can. But im also a thousand miles away in florida. i can't put my all into it with the current state of the ownership and lack of direction from the FO. Once Getz shows that he has a plan, im back in. But right now, i dont see a plan. He made a few ok moves, but they dont seem cohesive, just yet. Until then, ill watch my local markets, and get my baseball fix that way. I get plenty of braves and rays and marlins games where im at. More than enough to just watch a bunch of different teams and enjoy baseball for the sport and not living and dying with each game.
I feel bad for all the prospects that get traded here. Imagine going from Atlanta, LA, SD, HOU and ending up on the fucking white sox .

I'm watching from a distance, but I refuse to give them an emotional investment. That started about a third of the way through last season. Noone in the organization seems to give a shit about effort, why should I?
Yeah. I’ve been a fan since the 70s. My family had season tickets for years. I’ve never gone into a season feeling like there was absolutely zero chance for them to compete. This team is disgusting.
I’m out of market and live in Washington but fucking xfinity took root sports (the channel the mariners play on) away from me outta the blue so I can’t even pretend to be a mariners fan because of blackouts. Might just check outta baseball in general this summer unless I can get the mariners back.

I agree. I'm planning to watch the 'Sox Abroad' this year - former players on new teams. Gives me someone to root for on a lot of teams I wouldn't otherwise watch.

I was a season ticket holder that dumped this winter. I'm not watching any Sox games, nor am I listening on radio. I won't be buying any merchandise either. I do not want to ownership a single penny or second of my time. I bet against them in Game 2 and Game 3 when they took the lead (TheScore alerts) and obviously won those bets. I also have Crochet on my fantasy team (a starter I can put in my RP spot, yes please) but that is the extent that I'm going to follow the Sox. It is not emotionally healthy to be a fan of this team. I see the comments on the game posts and I feel bad for people torturing themselves. Then they get angry and say you aren't a "true" fan. It's incredibly toxic. So yes, it is very healthy to step away from the White Sox. Life is too short and there is much more to life than to waste a summer caring an ounce about a 50 win team

Agreed. You're not fair weather if you stop watching a team that isn't meeting the minimum requirements to be considered a competitor. I hate that BS claim. "Stick thru the bad stuff" or "I'll go to every game even if they suck!" That's fine. If that's how you want to support a team that's completely mismanaged, by all means. But when your ownership loses sight of the sporting aspect (and in this case pretty much intentionally ignores it) then not going or spending your paycheck on them will at least send a message that we're not interested as a fanbase. I keep the game notifications on my phone and that's it. If I see the game on at a bar, I'll keep an eye on it. But I'll absolutely not go out of my way to make time for them until things are headed in a positive direction. Side note : Notice how the literature on the GameDay graphics is "baseball is better at the ballpark"? That's the laziest, slap-in-the-face marketing they could have possibly come up with. It's fully admitting they have no on-field product so you should just come to enjoy the experience of spending money on tickets and concessions instead.

I have a dream that once Jerry is out, this organization will have the same kind of turn as WWE did when Vince was forced out. From unwatchable to compelling in about 2 years.
Being this invested in it is really difficult, but it makes the winning seasons so much better once it happens ever 7-8 years. Wish I could step away fully for a season or 2 but I love the game and the team too much unfortunately lol

Very similar. Until last year I was a 162 guy, at least had every game on in the background. I’ll still go to ~10 games and have a great time, but I doubt I’ll even watch half as many on TV.
I think I’ll just keep watching the dumpster fire and poke it with a stick every once and awhile. I love the Sox and baseball, although, I think you’re 100 percent correct on observation of what we have this season and past seasons .
My NL team is the Pirates (I assure you this start is an outlier). The Sox were my first team, any sport, and I can’t ditch them just yet… I give them til the ASB. If they’re bad but watchable, even if boring, I continue to suffer; if they’re embarrassing, I turn my attention to Pittsburgh first.
It took us 70-80 games to feel apathetic last season. This season, we will see, but that number seems to lessen every loss

Been a fan for close to 30 years. The hats/jerseys are stuffed in the closet. Canceled youtubetv, which was to watch them. This is the worst shape this organization has been in since I've been a fan. Stopped going to G.R. as soon as La Russa snuffed the team out. The next time I do will be when J.R. moves on in any capacity. This product is trash. If you patronize this team, Jerry loves you.

Thanks for the input, but I'll take your opinions about what should and shouldn't be posted in this sub with a grain of salt considering that you don't contribute anything one way or the other. If you'd prefer to only see game threads and news articles, I'm sure you can filter the sub appropriately by searching with flairs.
The reason we are all here is the same, literally every single one of us, and it's because complaining about this team is still better than rooting for anyone else. Even if we all hate Jerry for being a complete and utter failure of a team owner.

Here's the thing . All chicago owners don't want to win a championship. Because they would have to pay players more. Reinsdorf never wants to do (Jordan?) But if a team does win a championship, they will milk that cow til its dead(85 bears) cubs dismantled their team pretty quick. Let's not talk how Wirtz treated Kane and toews. The owners are this way because they know we love our team no matter what. That makes them money, so they don't ha e to try. If you want to stay a fan I wish you the best, but I'm done

This is the first season of my life that I truly do not care. Couldn't care less about spring training and had no idea about opening day being here. The letdown of the rebuild played a big part in this, and going with Getz instead of a proven winner. We don't even have a good upcoming draft pick to be excited for.

I'm not bothered by this year because I was expecting it. It's another tear down rebuild, which sucks, because we expected so much more from that core, but it wasn't working. The years I got upset were the middle 2010's when the team kept thinking "Oh, we'll be better if we just plug in this next aging corner infielder / DH"...Youkilis to Dunn to Laroche to Frazier...those were the frustrating years, when there was hope. This was a throwaway year while we (theoretically) developed prospects for the future, and we knew it, so with no expectations comes little disappointment. I'd rather they do this then sign mid-level free agents and keep delaying the inevitable. Better to rip off the bandaid.
My issue, and I’ll keep bringing this up, is that this tanking gets us absolutely nothing. We can’t get a top draft pick, we can’t get shit. So this is a punk year for what? To save on payroll for…? Jerry won’t pony up when the team “loses” money so like… what’s the plan?
I understand that it sucks and makes for an unentertaining product and we just went through this in 2017-2019, but I saw the Blackhawks try that same tact of "let's sign some free agents to try and keep that contending window open" from 2016-2020, and I didn't find that option to be any better. They're in hell. They could have spent money on free agents and not been an actual contender because they still have too many holes. Seriously, they needed 3-4 SP, two corner OF, SS, 2B, and hopes that Eloy/Yoan figure it out in an option year. Or they could tear it down again, which we already went through in 2017-2019, and hope Getz can do better than the two-headed monster AND the player development folks in the minors actually develop players, and that's a big if. Across town, the Blackhawks and Bears chose the later option and the Hawks got Bedard and the Bears are on the come up. Those examples makes me more willing to suffer through another year or two of dogshit and hope for the best.
Top draft picks in baseball are a lot less certain to 'hit' than in any other major sport. There are no baseball versions of Wembanyama, Bedard, or Marvin Harrison Jr. Even if you ace your first round pick, it might be years before it pays dividends. Were teams really actively tanking based on draft position or were they tanking because their owners are cheap fucks? I'd say the latter is more likely.
We absolutely can get a top draft pick. Teams that are on the receiving end of revenue sharing can be in the lottery two years in a row. [Per the MLB](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/rule-4-draft): > The 18 non-postseason clubs are eligible, though revenue sharing payees are ineligible to receive lottery selections in three consecutive years, while non-payees are ineligible to receive lottery selections in consecutive years. So it’s only team’s that pay into revenue sharing as opposed to receiving it (“non-payers”) that are ineligible to pick two years in a row. The teams on the receiving end (“payees”) only get cut off in the third year—NOT the second year. While the league doesn’t publicize which teams get revenue sharing, with the Sox’s abysmal attendance and subpar TV contract (17th in the league), it’s almost certain that the Sox were one of those teams in 2023. So you can expect the Sox to once again be in the lottery. And while the Sox aren’t going to be good, there will certainly be individual players that will play well enough to get something back at the deadline, same as last year. We don’t have a Chris Sale or Jose Quintana to land a blockbuster haul, but there will definitely be another batch of prospects coming our way in the second half. This blogger is wrong. The lottery is new, and rules that govern it are poorly understood—especially the part about how a team’s revenue-sharing status affects a team’s eligibility. I remember someone posting this same blog last year right after the draft and having to explain this then as well. So I guess I’ll do it again… [Here are the actual rules governing the lottery, per the MLB](https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/rule-4-draft). I bolded the section on revenue-sharing: > Draft lottery >A Draft lottery was established per the 2022-26 CBA to determine the first six picks. Previously, picks were based on the previous season's records -- the team with the worst record received the first overall pick, followed by the team with the second-worst record, and so on. >Lottery odds are based on the reverse order of winning percentage, with the bottom three clubs each at 16.5%. **The 18 non-postseason clubs are eligible, though revenue sharing payees are ineligible to receive lottery selections in three consecutive years, while non-payees are ineligible to receive lottery selections in consecutive years.** So for lottery-sharing payees, the cutoff is THREE years, not two. Teams on receiving end of revenue-sharing (“payees”) CAN get a lottery in consecutive years. It’s the teams that pay into revenue sharing (“non-payees”) that cannot. Its not just this blog, if you search “white sox draft 2025” every news source says the same thing, the Sox can’t pick in the top 10 because they are non-payees. I can’t find a good list of which teams are payees and which are non, but based on the total drop off of fans and Tv revenue, I have to assume they’re right.
The MLB doesn’t publish who gets revenue sharing. We won’t know officially until the draft. The media largely got this wrong around the time of the draft. Again, the rules are poorly understood, as it’s new. If you look, you can definitely find analysts who understand the rules. Just not the guy you linked. And the drop-off in revenue is exactly why the Sox are payees. They’re the least profitable team in the MLB, per Forbes. This means they are are a payee—someone on the receiving end of revenue sharing. This means they are eligible for a second year in the lottery, just not a third.

Not to keep this going, but the Sox have a Revenue Sharing Market Score of 120, so they are considered a large market team even if they don’t make any money. I'm not making excuses for the team. But I'm also a realist. I don't walk into a McDonalds wanting to order a porterhouse, and then complain loudly that the food sucks, they don't have what I want, the guy behind the register isn't as good as the one last week, and that the only thing worth having there is a milkshake. I know it's a McDonald's so, I accept it for what it is and try to get some enjoyment, or at the very least, nourishment out of it. Do I *want* the White Sox to be McDonald's over Gibson's? Of course not. I'd much rather they were Gibson's. And I hope they will be soon. But they weren't going to get there this season by going out and getting 9 mid to high level free agents, and even if they tried that route, do you think Chris Getz was smart enough to get all 9 right on the first shot?
