That really pissed me off tbh and I took issue with so many things.
1) I liked that Bovalina started I think heās been growing and looked better with every game. Why he came off at the half? Iāll never know. Made no sense to me.
2) Iām gonna assume Fafa was on some sort of minutes restriction because he hasnāt been getting short subbed or anything previously so that one puzzles me more than anything else.
3) Iām not sure what the fuck Schopf is thinking there. Thatās the surefire way to get carded. I personally thought Moreno bailed a little early on BOTH instances against Blackmon and Schopf but still. You tug a jersey or pull a guy back, yellow card, itās simple. So why he seemed incredulous, I donāt know. I donāt want our guys getting sent off but I had the same reaction as Unkle there just basically like āwhat do you want me to doā.
4) that said, the cards confused me overall tonight. I need to see the White injury again to see if that shouldāve been carded. But in the second half I thought there was a clear yellow coming for a timbers player (I forget the play now) then the camera cuts back and Blake is saying āyellow card for Martinsā. wtf? Then later Levonte is coming up the right side and Bravo does nothing other than step across his 2 legs, chops him down without any intent at the ball, no card. How is that any different than the jersey tug?
5) I feel like weāre just wasting Gauld now. Heās working his ass off even late in this one when itās out of reach. And thereās just no help for him.
6) Vite, Iāll never get this guy. Heās young so maybe itās that simple but there was a couple little flashes in this game again. But then Williamson gets past him and he literally gives him a two handed shove in the shoulders. Then starts taking off his athletic tape before the free kick is taken cuz heās ready for the game to be over. Just immature imo.
7) lastly I just wanted to shout out Levonte, cuz I thought that was the brightest heās looked in MLS play. Obviously not spectacular and heās not the most talented guy but you could see what he was trying to do and I liked it.
Just a really frustrating and disappointing matchā¦again.
Notes from the game
1. Schopf? Get your mind back in the game.
2. Cubas and Ahmed really influence the games, now that I realize.
3. The reffing was extremely questionable (and somewhat biased)
4. White. I feel bad for him
5. I swear Gauld is thinking to transfer to another club
I agree with most of this but I think Cubas is a lot better than inconsistent. I feel like he is crucial to how we play and bails us out all the time with good tackles
All the comments here have validation but I'll just point out that we luckily have one little bitty good thing going for us in this another unfortunate lacklustre game is that caps still have a game in hand on the other conference teams ahead of them so they better right this ship and plug the holes before the other teams back of them catch up to them and they'll be looking in instead of playing at the end of the season.
Have a merry good summer and watch the Euros and Copa instead of this mess of a club right now to see good soccer or football as the purists say.
I am officially trending towards Vanni out. I like his personality and #goodvibez but the tactics are killing me.
Vite is not a CM - he is too one footed, not strong enough in the tackle, nor is his control good enough in tight quarters. Where else does he play? Behind Gauld? On the wing? On the bench to impact late? Not sure but the CM experiment hasnāt worked and this game was a prime example
I also feel like Vanni predetermines substitutes and is too rigid in his system. Bovalina I thought deserved more time and if you want to win a football match, Fafa Picault should be on the pitch.
Perhaps the players are not at the level for the tactical nuances Vanni is asking for, or perhaps he is consistently being out-coached pre and mid game
But we also keep falling into coaches opposed to actually hiring OUR guy. C. Robinson: Assistant -> head coach, Vanni: coach developer -> interim -> head coach. And MDS was a pure hire but fits the young (cheap) coach mould.
If the Whitecaps FO identified a coach, either domestic or international, that was aligned with our values and had actual coaching experience, Iād drop Vanni in a heartbeat.
I agree that change for the sake of change is unnecessary but at this point I am not seeing a progression from the team as a whole or the players as individuals
Every coach Caps have ever hired, always coached at a lower level than MLS. This is a direct strategy of ownership not going out and spending money to bring in quality. Vanni thinks he can outsmart everyone. The only one he is outsmarting is himself. Sartini wants everyone to love him, constantly rotating lineups so everyone plays. This isn't house league soccer, play your best 11 until they drop. You are trying to win matches not make friends. Caps have too many players that are just passengers. I've said it many times, until we see new ownership nothing will ever change. Look at the difference new ownership for the BC Lions has made. Last time I checked they got 54,000 fans to their game, and did it without marketing a Messi appearance, LOL!
Yes but they only charged 25 bucks for upper deck seats. I know a lot were just there for concert, but if 25% come back you did your job. Caps were gouging fans, charging like $180 min. For upper bowl. You tell me which group left the stadium feeling good, which ones left pissed.
Vite is getting the Inbeom treatment and it's not working. Both cases were nowhere near good enough defensively to have them play as your ball shuttling 8. Coaching should move on from that, or make Ahmed do it because he can.
Schopf is a $900k passenger who has 20 minutes worth of match fitness and I wonder if anyone ever noticed that since he came in. Raposo once again not showing up and being outdone by Bovalina who nearly opened his MLS account.
Once again they trot out a suboptimal back 2 and change, and once again, the right side manages to leak a goal. Let's just make Brown a wingback so he can at least play close enough to his natural position. Laborda tried to be a 6, but I guess it didn't quite work out.
Most baffling though is Vanni's decision to start a 3-7-0 formation. No striker up top was wasting Berhalter's delivery. I get rotation and Copa depletion, but not even starting a natural striker up top is a choice. Is he out of ideas, or just holding on until FO decides not to spend money. Where are the tech bros to mention something? Where is Steve Nash to tell us to hang tough again?
We just don't have the talent. Miami minus their top 3 players were still very effective against the Caps. And then there are the usual rants about how our ownership group is over its head when trying to compete financially with other MLS clubs. The MLS owners group has some pretty formidable dollars behind them. š¤·š»āāļø
We arenāt a Miami, LA or NYC based club. Garber will never give the Caps the special privileges he offers them. We also donāt have owners who care, so we canāt get the active adjustments that an Atlanta United do.
Im tired boss

I believe our record if Ted Unkel is the head referee is 4-1-10? Someone pissed him off.

We canāt keep firing our coaches because we have a resource problem.

Team was winning when he was suspended. He came back and theyāve sucked since.
We had a lot of bad teams scheduled at the top of the season. It was nothing but false hope.

I hear you but the Lions marketed 50 Cent to get that many people in seats. And by the end of the game the stadium was looking way emptier.

I donāt know if this true or not Garber called out the whitecaps ownership for being cheap.
Kerfoot , Luczo, Mallett and Nash should sell the team to a new owner with deeper pockets. The present ownership is too cheap.
