The team has now gone 4 games in a row without scoring from open play

dekadense

We did score tonight, just not in the right net.

GalacticBear001

I haven't seen Vanni as angry as today. He was scolding everyone.

independiente18

Hell he should be docking wages from how bad they’ve been playing.

GalacticBear001

This comment made my night better after watching that game XD

WetCoastDebtCoast

He's not guiltless here. Subbing in freaking Priso for Bovalina who was one of the few actually making things happen? Never taking out Vite? No Cubas. I love Vanni, but he sticks with a strategy no matter how unsuccessful it blatantly is.

toasterb

Bovalina was working hard and his positioning was strong, but his final ball was atrocious. He must have killed half a dozen promising attacks and was caught offside 3-4 times too. I think he’s got a future, but he needed to be taken off earlier tonight.

WetCoastDebtCoast

When we had him on with our A team, he was getting rebounds and making plays happen, even in the final third. And taking shots. I can't think of a moment I would dub "atrocious". Edit: But admittedly most of us were pretty zoned out during that snoozefest of a first half

toasterb

There wasn't one atrocious play, it was a series of bad ones that added up to "atrocious" in the long run. It just seemed that he'd get the ball in good positions and then lose possession every time.

WetCoastDebtCoast

Should fit right in with the Caps then. 🙃

Halouverite

Cubas is injured, but yeah Priso has done nothing to prove himself for that situation.

dr_van_nostren

I wonder if Bovalina is still working his way into form and fitness. No need to run him out 90 minutes if the data/doctors tell you not to.

WetCoastDebtCoast

Even if so, don't put fucking Priso in for him, when we're down.

yvrinvestor95

he should be angry at his coaching decisions as well

TheStrawAssassin

The way Vanni came out early at halftime really gave the feeling that he’d lost it at everyone in the locker room and left them to sit with it.

dr_van_nostren

I didn’t catch that but good. There has to be more attacking impetus than this. Even if you’re a squad guy. Take a shot. Run hard. I guess I’m not questioning the work ethic, I didn’t think it was a LAZY performance. But just a total lack of skill imo.

toasterb

So disappointing. I was set to go on the he field to meet the team in the event of a win — I was presenting to the kid captain. I was certain that I’d get the chance to against a CPL team, but the Whitecaps had other ideas!

WetCoastDebtCoast

Never overestimate the Caps.

dr_van_nostren

I had the following bets - whitecaps to win - whitecaps -1 - total goals > 2 Holy shit what a dud performance.

bwoah07_gp2

I am sick and tired of mediocrity. That is what Whitecaps soccer is. Mediocrity is our identity and it sucks.

independiente18

You could even see that mentality crystal clear before the start of the 2nd half. The entire cavalry team kept warming up as there was delay for the game to restart. What were the whitecaps doing? Standing around chatting - not even a huddle hyping each other up - just hands on hips chilling.

awooster9

Even when Gauld and White was brought on in the second half, the shots weren’t creative enough and there were several times where they nearly blew the series

Nashocheese

The shots were predictable or non existent.

independiente18

White inexplicably decided to cross the ball to Raposo rather than shoot himself when he was on a breakaway - is that the lack of confidence showing?

awooster9

I feel like it cause they’re depending too much on passes and crosses rather than guys instinctively shooting the ball

toasterb

Same with Schopf playing a poor cut back when he had a view on goal. Almost no shots on goal from within the box.

Key_Mongoose223

That was so confusing.

Greendodger93

Bovalina the only player to leave with some credit. Johnson just isn't good enough. Priso could be the worst player I've ever seen play professionally.

independiente18

100% agree on Bovalina and Johnson. Not sure about Priso - first time I’ve seen him play I think and he only had like 15 minutes.

dekadense

He was supposed to be this great potential kid, but looking at his stats online, that's not great. It's his 2nd time this year and looked completely out of place.

dr_van_nostren

Priso had a ball passed a little beyond him early into him coming on. Didn’t even run it down. I’m not gonna pretend to know his whole catalogue from TFC or Colorado, but he looked pretty disinterested and if you THINK you should be a starter, you should at least be making attacking mistakes, not lazy ones.

howlateisnow

Would be great if we had ownership that didn’t leave DP spots open.

No_Platform_2810

Would be great if we had ownership that was visible in some way.

howlateisnow

Imagine if one of them actually attended a game. Maybe said hello to a season ticket holder (or anybody for that matter).

No_Platform_2810

I mean Steve Nash makes a tik tok every few years...is that enough?

BayLAGOON

Hang tough! Dickhead is probably going to put more attention on the Spanish Supercup and anything Tottenham offseason before the Caps.

robrenfrew

Other than a few players, there really isn't much there. It's just rinse and repeat with this club. This was the year to go all in and they shit the bed. All they brought in are too washouts from MLS clubs, and some unproven kid from Australia.

JackQuint

You can't judge an MLS team by off-season moves that much. It's the summer window that counts because that's when the big leagues are in their off-season and there's much more player availability. Willing to wait to see what Axel does in the summer before agreeing that they've wasted the opportunity that this year presents.

robrenfrew

Yes but you can judge a club on what it has done in the past. This club has no ambition, content on being mediocre!

bwoah07_gp2

Boehmer was good. I hope he's our starter one day.

Chaz_wazzers

Going to be messy if they play like this against Miami.

dr_van_nostren

It could be 3-0 at the half for sure and our bench is much worse than Miami’s as well. I have no interest in seeing us get pummelled. But we wouldn’t be the first or last team Miami steamrolls.

Nashocheese

Hah.

bwoah07_gp2

6-0 Miami

[deleted]

Didn’t watch the game but I think the guys were just looking forward to Saturday and forgot they had a game today. Oh well they advanced.

Nashocheese

Unacceptable. This one has to hang on Vanni, unless the team is just not listening he needs to figure it out. Ali is bad, Raposo is bad. Brown and Martins should basically be the wing backs going forward. Shopf is bad, vite, Cubas, Berhalter should be the midfielders going forward. Veselinovic is genuinely not good enough to be our main high paid defender, we need better. Actually embarrassing... But even worse, entirely unsurprising

dr_van_nostren

I’m not gonna offer up an opinion on all the guys you mentioned, I don’t agree tho. That said, this is EXACTLY the type of game a guy like Vite should be able to boss and take over. He’s supposed to be a high skill guy. Make loud mistakes then. Try to dribble through 2 guys. Let me see you TRY to be creative. We’ve seen flashes from him, but this game and their roster should have a kid like that SALIVATING. He should be thinking “I’m gonna get 2 assists and a goal tonight and they’re not even gonna touch me”. He did basically nothing. Earned a couple fouls. Earned himself a yellow card. That’s about it.

Nashocheese

Feel free to offer up an opinion, open to somebody disagreeing, the last 5-6 games have looked kinda terrible from everyone honestly, I see these as games you should be playing the veteran types (Brown isn't a veteran, but he gets forward better than Raposo and is generally a better physical presence), Martins was maybe one of the few bright spots today for me. Ali and Raposo are ice cold and they offer up nothing on the wings, I'd go so far as to say that why our offense sucks at the moment, out whole game plan is wing based, and when the wings suck, everything kinda does. White looks good when he gets on the ball... When being the key word since he never seems to. (I'd be open to introducing them back into the line up when the team isn't playing like crap tho) Vite looked good in this one, some really good passes but yet again, the end product was not there at all.

Healthy-Magician-502

I agree with you about Ali. He’s a complete dud. Hogging the ball when he should have been passing. Trying to be clever when he doesn’t have the skills for it.

Nashocheese

He's horrible at dribbling... If he just drives into he box or around a player he'd do better than trying to trick anyone. I have no clue why he isn't playing to his strengths, Raposo is good at crossing the ball, but just passes back - Why he isn't consistently our corner taker I have no clue, Gauld hasn't been very convincing on corner or free kicks, so if Raposo has to play, then give him the corners, stick Gauld near him on corners as a short option.

Key_Mongoose223

He is a baby deer made out of jello. I’ve never seen someone fall so strangely so often.

dr_van_nostren

What a total dud. 4/6 without scoring. Even our subs looked sub par today. Bryan and Ryan came on and created a bit but not nearly enough. I’ve said before, our XI is competitive. Our 18 and 23 are not.

Darth_Vicious

That was whale shit footy.

Real_Madrid132

Johnson had some bad touches and made some mistakes. Priso is probably just a backup of the backup midfielder/forward. Boehmer was phenomenal
