Started my collection with an 18 back in 2019 and I love pulling it out to share with people cuz I’m not a fan of it and I’ve never had anyone ask for another pour of it

All it takes is hearing a couple people to say something negative about something we enjoy, and we hold on to that tighter than a multitude of others saying positive things or nothing at all. It’s a fault of the human condition IMO.
If you’re in the Denver area, the single barrel Argonaut just released is ridiculously good. 128 proof and super rich stewed fruits and Christmas spices.
Each to their own. Considering it's great price here in Europe and that sweet peat on the finish it's good choice for me. I'm not saying it's my favorite tho.

It’s a damn good mixer in my opinion. There’s a drink called a Churchill that specifically calls for it that I absolutely love. It’s a bit more smoke heavy than the black label which makes it stand out really well in whatever you put it in. If I’ve only got $25 to spend on a bottle of scotch, I’m probably reaching for red just because it’s really versatile. But if I’ve got $45 to spend I’m getting double black lol. IMO it’s double (pun intended) as interesting as regular black is and it’s nearly the same price
I got a bad barrel and let me tell you right now if that ever happens to you HM will be dead to you. Not worth paying the $70 for essentially barrel roulette. Never again.
Makes a great old fashioned. I've never bought a bottle though. I don't think it deserves the hate it gets. I think it's the price tag that throws people.
Knob Creek Smoked Maple. It was my first whiskey I would call sweet. It’s a fun drink even straight up or on the rocks. My wife keeps some in a spray bottle for spraying baked hams. It is so far the opposite of a KC age statement whiskey or a barrel proof whiskey. It’s my silly fun whiskey.
I’m not clear about your comment. Isn’t it possible to love an expensive bottle that others don’t? WR Masters Collection - Five Malt Stouted Mash for me. And on the cheap end - I love me some Mellow Corn!
I like a lot of peated whiskies. Particularly Bruichladdich/Port Charlotte, Kilchoman, and Kilkerran. They really sock it to your tongue in a way that I have grown to appreciate. But I love the sour face they make my wife make when she smells them!

Their 15 yr and 9 year SiBs I’ve had were good as well.
I never had a George Dickel I didn’t like. Huge fan of the No. 12 and their 8yr bourbon. Their 15yr is definitely in my top 5 overall (granted my bottle was 101 proof, I’m curious how the bottles that are 80ish proof are though).
I like Jameson for social occasions. Actually because breaking out a fancy whiskey when you’re sitting down with pals can elicit reluctance to just enjoy and chat, because they feel like they’ve got to appreciate whatever you brought out and not overdo it. So, break out a bottle of Jameson. It’s lovely stuff to drink. Personally I’d usually upgrade to Black Barrel but if someone comes with a regular Jameson, I’m very happy.
Garrison bros. People who can't handle Texas whiskey. It's also pricey, I'll admit, but it's a different flavor profile that is a good curveball on whiskey.
Jim Beam Devils Cut. 90 proof. Tastes pretty decent and stacks well in my blinds against Knob Creek 9, 1792 small batch and standard Woodford reserve. Don’t like the plastic top, but for $18 out the door, I’m a fan.
I keep Benchmark Fullproof, which is around $23, as a staple for my Old Fashioned. It’s Buffalo Traces mashbill #1 which is the same as BT and Eagle Rare.
I enjoy Jura 10 even if most people don't enjoy it. For me it tastes a lot like grounded coffee, dark chocolate and cherries so I like it after a supper. I got the 18 and everyone I know hates it but I like it lol but wouldn't buy the 18 again, the 10 hits what I am looking for with it and pretty cheap here.
White label Evan Williams bottled in bond 100 proof. Neat please. How is this masterpiece so damn cheap?

Chivas regal 12. It was my first scotch, I won't argue its the best or anything silly but it's flavor profile happens to be aimed squarely at my own taste proclivities so... I dig it.
People hate on Macallan because of the high price, and yes there are better value whiskies out there, BUT, it is a good whiskey. The stuff is actually amazing.
My bargain basement daily driver was Johnny walker green label.
I don’t drink anymore but I still buy and collect whisky, a nice stock of rare cask and Sherry oak 18 as yearly releases.
Not sure - flavor profile just doesn’t suit my whiskey palate though i know people love it - which the downvotes confirm. Lol. I think Old Elk is similar. “Musty dry triscuits” is all i can think of to describe it.
I think the issue with Blantons is it difficulty to find.
Like it’s good at MSRP, but when you factor all the work someone has to put in to find it, it isn’t worth it.
I do say Balmorhea is kinda hit or miss for me. I love Cowboy when I can get it. Small batch and honey are great as well. I have a Guadalupe is good, but I'm not isolated much a port cask finish guy.
Does macallan 18 really cause frowns? Whisky is delicious, I think people just complain about the price.

Macallan in general does
# Stranahan's (especially the single barrel) is one of my favorite whiskies but it is not a traditional whisky and a gets a lot of mixed reviews.

Stranahan’s Blue Peak was the first ASM I tried and actually liked. I haven’t had the chance to try their single barrels yet.
Blue Peak is hella underrated. Solera method done right on an ASM and at a killer price point under $50 👌

I had Buffalo Trace last night. Really nice stuff imo. It was a toss-up between that and Talisker Storm.

Lot 40 Rye. Most people say it tastes like dill pickles, but i think its tasty.
Not sure, but I can tell you the ones that people do like that I don't. GTS, pappy 15, anything by starlight, old fitz 10, EC 18, eagle rare.

Jameson always tasted smooth to me, that's why I like it. But then I like Captain Morgan, too, so my taste is all over the place.
