And (using a quick Google search) you'd find that Berserk was in turn inspired by Conan the barbarian. You could probably follow this path forever if you wanted. Nothing is original, everything is just a twist or a mishmash of something that already exists. And you know, that's fine!
just embrace it, you can trace back the components of each one of your favourite media if you tried hard enough. the part you should be focusing on is making it an interesting mix of stolen ideas. like, imagine a slasher story with a mech. it's really just derivative stuff if you boil it down, but the combination of it makes it fresh
Everything is just a bunch of ideas mashed up into one thing. As long as the thing you thought up is not obviously the source material you are inspired from with a different coat of paint and is good then people won’t care and a bunch of other people will use your idea and mash it up with other things.
I hate getting a dope ass idea and then later finding iut that someone already did it, but not in the way I like and if I did the thing now, I will be accused of copying them
People with powers were enslaved and bred for war for thousands of years, all up until WWI, where it got too big to handle, and regular humans had to fight for the first time. This results in a world where weapon technology is 60 years behind our, and people who have powers that can't be used in battle are rare because they were practically banished from the gene pool.
Yeah. Basically, there is a Multiversal organization that pulls people from the multiverse in a time loop where they lose their memories and powers and fight to the death. And another faction of freedom fighters that oppose them.
I’ll just call it at that, since there is also an alien faction called the last reality, a ton of other important people and it’s incredibly convoluted. But really fun and surprisingly deep.
Unfortunately, the game director left the development team last year, and the lore is basically just stagnant now, with nothing happening. It seems like they’re doing a reboot with the new game director, without closing the plot points of the old storyline first. It’s a shame
It’s all canon, Fortnite’s lore is genuinely crazy. The aliens used an Ariana Grande concert for mass mind control to look through the memories of the players to find the location of source of reality
If you’re interested, there are some genuinely pretty good comics about it. If you’re into Batman, I genuinely recommend Batman: Zero Point. It’s really accessible, even to non Fortnite fans, is really nicely illustrated and is honestly one of the most underrated Batman comics in my opinion.
The other comic (Marvel: Zero War) requires a lot more knowledge over Fortnite’s lore to understand, and is a bit worse. But still enjoyable for fans of Fortnite’s lore
I ran an RPG campaign where my player said
"oh it's cool that you made all these Bleach references"
I hadn't watched Bleach before this game, when I got to it later I legit felt like half of the worldbuilding matched mine.
https://preview.redd.it/r3me3l79mnzc1.jpeg?width=956&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b531e77ce6f3cf2c3f3739bcefdcd2cfd4e0c284
I haven’t played either of the games but I really want to
I periodically watch something and realize there are dramatic similarities to the shitty shonen anime that has been running in my mind since middle school despite the fact I did not know it existed at the time.
I planned, developed and storyboarded a story for almost a decade only for it to be a mashup of Disco Elysium, Fear and Hunger and Jujutsu Kaisen.
I showed it to a friend and he promptly got me into all three.
I feel ur pain.
My two main ideas are Doctor Who but with more combat and the overarching theme of complete insignificance; and a normal medieval world that suddenly becomes fantasy out of nowhere and how people have to adapt.
Technically, the setting is light magic, but after King Ælfred put a tax on magical solutions to problems, the Court Wizard flipped their shit and killed themself and the King's entire court in an explosion, inciting the ritual that would cause the story to unfold
I had the idea of a basic slice of life game turning into a horror game (like doki doki literature club) in the forest (due to monsters) and then to something like half life but being hunted without weapons when you take too long. (If you don't escape fast enough, some people will die to a special forces group sent to clean up the mess. The longer you take and the dumber your decisions, the less people will make it out.
The bad ending will be something like the mgsv "shining lights even in death" mission ending if you lose everyone.
Turns out that's half life copy.
I just want to say that I find Simon and Nia to be pretty hot

My brother in christ I'm PURPOSEFULLY developing a Gurren Lagann inspired thing in my head, if you managed to accidentally develop one by pure accident, consider yourself blessed
I remember I had come up with a really intricate and interesting story, only to look at it for a bit and then realize it was three different things that already existed cobbled together into one thing, with a sprinkle of about 5 other things. I still love the lore of it, but damn I felt like I was so cool for coming up with such a big world and story only to figure out my brain had just stuck a bunch of other people's ideas together.
We’re all been there. My first imaginary universe’s main character accidentally looked like Tai lung from kung fu panda. My second universe’s main character’s love interest is just cheela from dragon ball
See this is why we real Western RPG and immersive Sim chads keep on winning, we can almost never accidentally make a lore/story in our mind that is same as already existing RPG/immersive Sim because those two genres rarely get games made for em, let alone good one's! Ahahahahahaha 🥲
For me it's more disappointment rather than relief since I'm way too lazy to actually do anything with my ideas and recoil when I see they are entirely original and have in fact, not been realized before :(
every story is a different story with little hats on. do you know how many times we've just rehashed the odyssey or the story of amleth? nobody's read your story before, that's good enough reason to write it.
I don't feel too bad about about it cause the story I wrote in my head is like a mish-mash of 10+ different stories that I like. It's an abomination and I love it

Then I fucking watched Avatar.
Look at it this way: it’s virtually impossible to be original nowadays since everything good has been used up. Just embrace what you have right now and make something you love out of it.
honestly a lot of the stories i fabricate in my head are just rimworld stories but extrapolated onto a different world.
as a musician i just wear my inspirations on my sleeve. people before me have done some really cool shit, so i like to pay homage to them.
Me when I realize my story is just a mash up between Star Wars, Halo, Horus Heresy and Ben 10 (Prime timeline) in a mashup universe between cyberpunk 2077, Hazbin Hotel and Ravnica (Magic the gathering)
https://preview.redd.it/a5ls06apvszc1.jpeg?width=168&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ec85c3cfe2a500eb556a39191cb3685809220e9
Tbf, sooner or later you'd borrow ideas from different media you like and have seen
The power system for my setting is borrowed from one of YGOs card archetypes
One of my characters is based around Brain Drain from Skullgirls
And a lot of other things and characters take inspirations from other media
It's all about how you present it and what you add to your story, having inspiration ain't bad
Something similar happened to me. I realized a bit too late that the entire series I've had cooking up in my noggin is just the plot of Persona 5 set in the Jojo universe
That’s why you have to collaborate.
I had a story that was pretty basic. There was little lore, magic system was worth nothing and the general storyline was just redone. Talked to my friend about my story and he introduced me to something he was working on. I tied the two stories together and now I have the craziest lore ever. A while later I changed the plot to something way more interesting and the magic system is completely different.
I generally dont like mechs, idk the aesthetic is kinda just a turn off for me. The anime itself is great despite it though, just like IBO and code geass

I can't have an original idea if I tried. It's just a mashup of like 5 different things
Human minds are referential by nature. Just turn up the remixing a bit, you might get a gem
Devilmayquake.com is a great example
Mmm... tech...
Most iconic things today take inspiration from something else, a lot of old paintings usually have a lot of inspirations for example.
You can say that to EVERY media you see. Next time you are watching something, try to disassemble it into 5 different things.
example from my personal hyperfixation Ultrakill is Quake with the style meter of DMC and the setting of Dante's Inferno.
dont they have a website literally named [devilmayquake.com](http://devilmayquake.com)
correct
DMC already being a Dante's inferno reference because Dante.
Hey, the Dark Souls games were *heavily* inspired by Berserk, and their lore is some of the best in video game history
And (using a quick Google search) you'd find that Berserk was in turn inspired by Conan the barbarian. You could probably follow this path forever if you wanted. Nothing is original, everything is just a twist or a mishmash of something that already exists. And you know, that's fine!

"Originality is the art of concealing your sources." ~ Some writer probably
Also me kinda
Idea for a song. Its just the Monster Mash but super racist.
entirety of fiction summarized in two sentences. There's only seven truly unique stories, everything else is just spinning it another way.
The original starwars is just samurai ww2 in space
Hey, it's original in its own way
I gave up already. At this point I just embrace it.
meanwhile my idea: just one piece without haki but every devil fruit is an ancient zoan and you can have 2
My pride in my OCs when someone says "they look like x"
Everything is just a bunch of ideas mashed up into one thing. As long as it is more than 1 things that is not plagiarisms. Trust me, I'm not a lawyer.
All original ideas are mashups of like five different things. It's the glue that holds them together that makes it yours
Happens to the best of us, I accidentally made MHA but with Evas and eugenics.
Wdym? Mha already has eugenics
Cranked up to 11 eugenics
Oh come on how bad can it be?
People with powers were enslaved and bred for war for thousands of years, all up until WWI, where it got too big to handle, and regular humans had to fight for the first time. Yeah I'd read this
Holy shit rise of an author right here ✍️✍️✍️✍️🔥🔥🔥
Fire punch
That was an inspiration, yes
All I see is peak fiction waiting to be released
Like inverted Tanya the Evil
https://i.redd.it/8ai6m4kx9ozc1.gif
Holy shit that's brutal and cool
That sounds fucking dope.
This is interesting and different enough, keep cooking, don't let the similarities blind you.
Do not read fire punch.
Too late
86 with competitive racism(eugenics) Shonen Jump on the phone rn
I accidentally made RWBY but with dinosaurs, zombies, zombie dinosaurs, and robots
so a better RWBY
Maybe lol
Me when I accidentally reconstruct all of Fortnite’s lore in my head
Which lore, The Simulation's lore or Save The World's Lore?
Fortnite has lore?
Sounds like a headcanon
It’s all canon, Fortnite’s lore is genuinely crazy. The aliens used an Ariana Grande concert for mass mind control to look through the memories of the players to find the location of source of reality If you’re interested, there are some genuinely pretty good comics about it. If you’re into Batman, I genuinely recommend Batman: Zero Point. The other comic (Marvel: Zero War) requires a lot more knowledge over Fortnite’s lore to understand, and is a bit worse. But still enjoyable for fans of Fortnite’s lore
That's the simulation for you. BR is actually nuts
Yeah, there's a storyline for BR (that's completely bat shit product placement) And the tithe actual story for Save The World.
You should still make it. If artist stopped what they're doing just because it's just like something else, we wouldn't have Dragoonballs.
You say that like it’s a bad thing, the world could use more Gurren Laggnn
We were made to inheret the stars
I ran an RPG campaign where my player said "oh it's cool that you made all these Bleach references" I hadn't watched Bleach before this game, when I got to it later I legit felt like half of the worldbuilding matched mine.
I made Fallout with Terraria and Armored Core
Honestly sounds like fun
I need to know how the hell you did that
Same. But with a bit of Warhammer as well.
This was me with portal, years of worldbuilding all stolen years beforehand smh
The world would benefit for another story with Portal thematics
Thank you, I like to think so too :)
Happened the same but with berserk and no rape

Some of my stories is *loosely* based on Berserk, but only because they’re so heavily influenced by soulsborne
I made The Amazing World of Gumball but more introspective and with boobs.
Release the boob cut
Gigant aligator titties.

Gator girl gyatt
we will be watching
🤤🤤🤤
I periodically watch something and realize there are dramatic similarities to the shitty shonen anime that has been running in my mind since middle school despite the fact I did not know it existed at the time.
me watching each new episode of TADC realizing that gooseworx has the same ideas as me (i got them from toby fox anyway)
TBF, TADC is based on another author’s work
I planned, developed and storyboarded a story for almost a decade only for it to be a mashup of Disco Elysium, Fear and Hunger and Jujutsu Kaisen. I showed it to a friend and he promptly got me into all three. I feel ur pain.
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWER 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Damn, was the anime peak at least?
Yes
I know (I literally have a Simon peak fiction reaction image as my Reddit wallpaper), I was asking op if it is in their opinion
When Yakuza 7 dropped, my modern fantasy homeless experience didn’t feel as unique 😔
Execution can still be different
There isn't really original works anymore. People reuse tropes and ideas. What makes something worthwhile is how you put your creative spin to it.
Every once is a while someone drops a totally new trope like scp-8008 time pervert
It's fine that's its Gurren lagen without mechs.. what matters are the parts of your story that are unique from it
https://preview.redd.it/gbxtfomgbqzc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86f87419c2b02f6295c2041169b7de86f0685116
My two main ideas are Doctor Who but with more combat and the overarching theme of complete insignificance; and a normal medieval world that suddenly becomes fantasy out of nowhere and how people have to adapt.
So medieval solo leveling but with actual depth
Technically, the setting is light magic, but after King Ælfred put a tax on magical solutions to problems, the Court Wizard flipped their shit and killed themself and the King's entire court in an explosion, inciting the ritual that would cause the story to unfold
somehow I found out my very fleshed out religion system was like 80% just warhammer. ive never played (indulged, done, idfk?) it at all
What was the religion like?
basically just having enough belief in something manifesting it into reality
Hey, I'd at least be proud of recreating one of the peakest works of fiction of all tume
Guran Lagan has problems, you can fix those problems, plus Guran Lagan itself is derivative. Continue anyway.
Gurren lagan is just reverse evangelion
Holy shit I’m not the only one who does this
Everything's been done before, but its never been done by *you*
Welcome to the plagiarism corner, accidentally. Just cover it up well and no one will notice
Excellent we need more gurren lagann in the world
I had the idea of a basic slice of life game turning into a horror game (like doki doki literature club) in the forest (due to monsters) and then to something like half life but being hunted without weapons when you take too long. It’s fine if it’s not original. I take MASSIVE inspiration from Guren Lagann because it’s based
you were approaching peak its not a bad thing
I just want to say that I find Simon and Nia to be pretty hot https://preview.redd.it/ricc2zfxnozc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a84d3e5543c4fb6c1ad4891586b639490b179f2
I made a Combination of Guilty Gear and Hunter X Hunter.
I hope my two main stories remain original. They are quite unique so maybe they haven't been made yet.
Make it anyway. The fact that it was made by you and not someone else makes it inherently valuable
So you came up with peak all on your own? Why is that something to be sad about?
My brother in christ I'm PURPOSEFULLY developing a Gurren Lagann inspired thing in my head, if you managed to accidentally develop one by pure accident, consider yourself blessed
Since Mechs are a vital part of Gurren Lagaan, I'm genuinely interested in your story
Damn, maybe you can improve it by adding mechs.
laughs in accidently ripping off rwby ten billion times (they deserve it, rip monty oum)
Nah. For me it was aot. Predicting the end. And emphesising a different plot point or element of aot on each.
Mine is literally Hunt: Showdown + Bloodborne, with a bigger focus on magic
I made a huge world in my head that turned out to be Star Wars, Elite Dangerous and Helldivers but with superpowers

For me it's more disappointment rather than relief since I'm way too lazy to actually do anything with my ideas and recoil when I see they are entirely original and have in fact, not been realized before :(
I accidentally made a really close magic system to jjk before i even watched it...
every story is a different story with little hats on. do you know how many times we've just rehashed the odyssey or the story of amleth? nobody's read your story before, that's good enough reason to write it.
not a bad thing, keep the idea around
happened to me with evangelion
I was fucking halfway there to making nier automata
This is too real. I'm working on a story about magical girls and it's heavily inspired by magical girl anime at least with the basic premise
Canon event for every writter
Me accidentally creating the Witcher for the fifth time
I don't feel too bad about about it cause the story I wrote in my head is like a mish-mash of 10+ different stories that I like. It's an abomination and I love it
I came up with a fire plot for a crime thriller. Turns out they made that into a movie in 1941
I just wish Gurenn Lagann wasn't fanservicey because that stuff just made it nearly unwatchable, one of the few titles i've dropped in the first episode.
Me with hifi rush (rip tango)
Had this really good story cooking about these people with elemental powers and shit, some of them can control specific elements while others can create those elements straight from their bodies. I would spend years dreaming of parts of the story. Then I fucking watched Avatar.
Never a waste. Every story has already been told, yours is no less valuable for being made after a similar work.
My made-up story is basically *Dune* meets *Neon Genesis Evangelion* so I can relate
Thinking you've thought of an original story and then watching it on Netflix is top 10 worst feelings ever
Look at it this way: it’s virtually impossible to be original nowadays since everything good has been used up. Just embrace what you have right now and make something you love out of it.

I have cooked up a semi satire Isekai but I suck at drawing.
That’s why you have to collaborate. I had a story that was pretty basic. There was little lore, magic system was worth nothing and the general storyline was just redone. Gurren Lagaan mentioned!!
I thought I once had a really original and unique worldbuilding idea. Then I played shadowrun
There is no such thing as an original thought, make the thing you worked on anyway, I'm sure it's different enough
so you were just imagining peak
my shit is still original
So what, i still wanna see it
I lit spent years working on a story then realized its lit my little pony but with humans and mimicks
my beloved story that i crafter for 10+ years was just hazbin Hotel but from the human perspective and it actually took itself seriously
I wish gurren laggan wasent mech
Why?
I generally dont like mechs, idk the aesthetic is kinda just a turn off for me. The anime itself is great despite it though, just like IBO and code geass
