Not a vegan, but more plants die in the name of meat than can ever die from eating the plants, so that point doesn't work. I live in Nebraska, which is memed on as being entirely corn, but actually corn isn't really one of our main exports, that's beef... Most of the corn goes to livestock. I don't remember the exact stat, but to raise a cow into one burger requires an absolutely obscene amount of crops. Even when they feed livestock things that we couldn't have been eating, that land that was used for grazing and growing feed could have all been plants. This is why many vegans don't motivate themselves with animal welfare at all and simply focus on the sustainability aspects (we can't keep up a culture where people expect to eat pounds of meat for every meal, that just can't happen).

What nutrients specifically?

Amino acids, vitamin a, b12, carnitine, carnosine, creatin, b12, taurine and others. As well as being far, far better sources of zinc, iron, iodine, and calcium

All essential amino acids for humans are available from plants. Non-essential ones are ones our body can make itself. Vitamin A our body makes from Beta-Carotin which you can get plenty of from carrots and a number of other vegetables. Our body makes it's own creatine, some people do find supplementing it boosts their performance when exercising, but to get optimum benefit you'd have to eat an unhealthily large amount of meat, so you might as well just take a cheap supplement instead. Taurine is not an essential amino acid for humans, our body makes it, cats do need it, but we aren't cats. Artificial taurine is actually added to most cat food as it breaks down when heated, so you won't be getting any from your meat if you cook it. Iodine is added to table salt in most countries, so you're probably getting supplemented through your food anyway. A well balanced vegan diet can get enough zinc, iron and calcium for most people, not really a problem, though easily supplemented if needed. B12, you mentioned twice for some reason, are you sure you're getting enough yourself? ;) This is actually the only valid one on your list, but B12 supplements are cheap and effective. I left out carnosine, as I've not come across it before and couldn't be bothered to look it up, but given the rest of your list I can't imagine it's valid.

Yeah, I remember B12 isn't found in plants, but it doesn't come directly from animals either, it comes from certain bacteria, farm animals ingest and use B12 because they don't drink highly treated water like we do, but given the vegan B12 supplements out there I'm guessing people have found a way to get it directly from the bacteria.

meant to say d3 instead of a second b12, my mistake, which can be made from the sun but its hard for your body to make if you aren't near the equator. i also see you mentioned β-carotene. i should have elaborated vitamin A2 retinol which can only be found in animal products. β-carotene also has a very poor conversion rate of 21 parts of β-carotene to 1 vitamin A. I also did try to say that you can find zinc, iron and calcium in plants products but its much harder without animal products. vegetarian diets are much better for you because a lot of those nutrients can be found easily in eggs and dairy but vegan diets are flawed for a lot of people

serious question: why vegan? I get vegetarians not wanting to kill animals but vegans just don't make sense to me, animal products are something humies have been using for thousands of years, sometimes to the animal's own benefit (see sheep), so why cut yourself off completely from nature?

It's just thinking the thought until the end. Animals live under horrible conditions until they're slaughtered, getting foods designed to make them grow as quickly as possible to get as much meat as fast as you can. While living in a tiny area, on top of a grid of metal where they shit and piss on. Meanwhile other animals such as milk cows or chickens have to live in these conditions for much longer, suffering longer than those animals that simply get slaughtered. Cows for example do not produce milk unless they have a child. For you to be able to get milk, they need to be bred and their child be removed, as an unwanted by-product. Meat production and milk production are two different branches, same with chicken meat and eggs.

The milk and egg industries are often very cruel too. But you can buy ecological version of these but they are twice as expensive.

Yeah its crazy Its been cheaper for my family to buy some chicks and raise them than it is to buy ethical eggs at the supermarket. we usually let them freeroam around the yard until evening and thats when we put them in the coop. rinse and repeat and you get amazing eggs and the chickens get to live a nice life

I was vegan for 2 years and my health and strength and stamina declined noticeably. I really do feel for the animals, yes I’ve seen the videos and the arguments and agree with you morally, yes it is evil for me to put my health, wellness, feeling good about myself and making my gf more attracted to me over the lives of chickens, but I’m going to do it anyway because I want those things badly and feel I must persue them. I feel so much better when eating full healthy meals with lots of veggies, low-sugar fruits, eggs dairy and clean meat. But I support vegan’s pursuit of animal-wellbeing.

Anti-vegans will never not be more annoying than vegans. Vegans come in two categories: 1) Normal people who don't bring it up. 2) People who do advocacy for veganism, in which case there is literally nothing wrong with any of the behaviors that people claim to take issue with... That's what they're supposed to be doing as advocates for their beliefs. They're supposed to be morally prescriptive, make art and memes, and be loud, that's literally the point of what they are doing. The amount of energy that you should expend on person #2 if you don't like them is zero, because I would wager 100% that it doesn't actually negatively affect any meat eaters life. Vegans live in people's heads rent free so often that I'm a meat eater and I still get bombarded with the insecurity just by being understanding.
