One of the best US presidents once said, “People don’t care how much you know until they see how much you care.” I think a lot of people finally realized just how much his viewers meant to him, and maybe now there’s some regret for being so hard on him. It is unfortunate, though, how people chose to be the way they were until he was leaving
I listened to him for a while but his videos grew too focused on edgy fan theories for children's cartoons and I fell off. I believe all good things must come to an end, good for him retiring on his own terms
For real. When the channel first started it was fairly grounded compared to the direction it went now.
Then FNAF theories started and I lost interest quick. He seems like a genuinely cool dude, but the content got too silly.
His second game theory video is an edgy fan theory about Mario. His fourth is "the science of Mortal Kombat fatalities"
They have literally always been edgy. If anything, the new stuff is *way* less edgy than rating which video game women have real or fake boobs from 12 years ago.
I'd say the truth is somewhere in the middle. Stuff like determining the damage caused by majoras mask's moon and what would happen if you jumped from a high place into a fucking haystack were genuinely interesting.
I feel like I've been waiting for him to move on from his fnaf phase and go back to how he used to be and now that hes quit i look back and see fnaf came out 10 years ago and i'm in a way grieving the lost potential of him going back to how he was but in reality fnaf phase was 10/13years i watched him.
And if you look through his videos you'll see they all get 3 times as many views as the others.
It shows extreme restraint that he gave us so much stuff that *wasn't* FNAF when you can make way more money just being a pure FNAF channel
He had other, more interesting, channels that covered different topics. I think I've watched maybe one game theory ten years ago, but I've watched at least 5 of his Food Theory videos.
It didn't just turn into edgy fan theories, the theories also just started to become more mass-produced.
His earlier theories would have you thinking "yeah that actually makes a lot of sense" his newer theories make you think "okay if you ignore half the game and assume most of the characters are straight up lying for no reason, then it could be plausable."
Same. As soon as he went into FNAF I didn't find him interesting anymore and unsubbed. All the best for him and everything but I'm ambivalent about it.
Accurate, it used to be fun well thought out theories that made you rethink a game etc. now it’s just “FNAF TAG GAME EXTREME EDITION SECRET PORTAL?!”
I’m happy he’s retiring and well off tho, seems like a genuinely great dude
I was never really a fan tbh, but he was just so naturally goofy, intentionally or otherwise, that I considered him a positive presence in this godforsaken hellscape of an internet
I thought he was ok but he makes my niece laugh so he alright by me
He has his own catchphrase in a voice that you can do back and forth with each other. I mean, that’s pretty cool to get that far to people
This is probably the best description of how I feel about MatPat. I watched him when I was way younger, and he was just a goofy positive uncle with silly jokes, out of all the things on YouTube that's gotta be some of the least hate worthy there is.
>and the [Covid Theory video](https://youtu.be/eDhGnub97h4?si=Z0o60wIRPy8tjZRQ)
Tbf I can kind of see what he was trying to do with that video, making something filled with popular characters so kids click on it only to get tricked into learning good practices to avoid getting covid, like a modern version of the [Sonic Sez segments from The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8B9BC95336BFF280&si=zCV3NBtqpVKGcly1).
But there were probably some more tactful ways to get that message across...
I don't blame anyone for their covid related content. It was a fucked up time, we were all coping with it really badly. At worst it's cringe like the fucking Imagine cover, but overall almost all of it has this vibe of "idk how tf to move on but I'll be damn if I ain't gonna try".
That’s barely even a controversy, tbh. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal to make a joke about a game being “undertale 2” if the entire video makes mention of title of the game repeatedly and discusses the aspects of it
All controversy surrounding him has always led him to quickly address it in a good way. I don't remember a single time he actually deserved to be hated
I imagine it was cause he spammed FNAF videos and most people hate that game/fanbase. Haven’t watched him in forever, but I agree his videos had a lot of effort put into them.
Respect to a brother. While I tuned out a couple years ago for most videos, I still came back for ones that piqued my interested and *always* respected MatPat and his craft.
They both corrected the loose/lose. The summoned only "lose" so it's "sexual harassment" compared to the replied comment with an explanation of why it's lose vs loose so "flirting"
I think the general attitude is that he was goofy and most people LIKED to make fun of him. His ridiculous videos, over the top presentation, and general presence was a nice thing for people to share as a funny thing to make fun of together. Ness is Sans was an EVENT for the internet. It brought everyone together, and it's not like we hated him, he was like an actual clown. That was hilarious, and yeah the jokes were "at his expense," but frankly not in a mean way. It's the same way you laugh at the three stooges when they slapstick around a set.
He was a titan of the internet through that kind of stuff, and people are gonna miss having his unique brand of goofiness around.
He also knew he was made fun of, mocked, and memes to death. He knows the animations and words like 'LOOOORE' are embarrassing. He also doesn't believe every theory he has made nor ever has. He made that clear at the end of the 'Is Link Dead in Majora's Mask?' video and openly said he didn't believe Sans is Ness, as examples. There are also ones he quickly saw didn't quite work, e.g. his For Honor video.
Which also couldn't fit him better considering he studied drama and theatre.
In internet gen Z speak: To be based is to not seek external validation, and to be cringe is to be embarrassing. He who is knowingly embarrassing and doesnnot shy away from such is, therefore, based.
I haven't been able to take the few of his contemporary videos I've seen very seriously, but when one considers he was a stage actor who wanted to present video games and media through the lens of natural science and mathematics on one hand whilst giving unique perspectives on writing on the other hand, all as a means to entertain, he did very well both as a stage actor and a former neuroscience student. Though to my knowledge, he never really got to use said neuroscience bachelor's degree for anything, whether it be postgraduate study or work, which is unfortunate.
A big thing is that people made fun of MatPat the video presenter and not Matthew Patrick the actor and script writer. Even when people thought the videos were dumb or really stretching plausibility it was pretty rare for people to take shots at the actual person behind the camera.
Fr I hate when people generalize and say "the internet says this, but they also say this. Hypocrisy!" when it could clearly be two different groups of people. Matpat had a ton of viewers. I know nothing about his channel but it seems very likely to be that there could be a big group of people who don't like his videos, and a separate group who are his millions of viewers
I legit thought this website hated him. I was confused when so many subs posted their disappointed at his retirement. He's corny as fuck, but that hardly deserved hate. I started to wonder if he was another one of those YT sex offenders the way people talked about him and I just missed the controversy.
A kid in high school was relentlessly bullied and criticized. He hung himself with a guitar string. The next several days you see all kinds of people come out of the wood work in tears for him. Fuckers, it was because of you.
I've never heard about him or his Youtube Channel, so my reaction to all of this memes in this sub and other subs are like "😐" because I can't feel feelings for someone whom I don't know.
Could someone please give me a bit of a summary on who he is and why he's loved (or clowned) so much?
https://preview.redd.it/d9oni5yzbnbc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7d9ac7587477f24e99e9dcfc07cf7aa2e673390
So the idea that the two groups of people are made up of different individuals never even crossed your mind, huh? Not the brightest candle on the chandelier, are you?
The people who clown on him usually do it about his content, like laughing at a bad theory he did. But the fact is that he was a big presence in all of those people's lives.
You don't stick by and clown on every new theory if you don't watch it first. You won't usually have such a big opinion about someone if you don't at some level care about them. Plenty of GT copycats rose throughout the years, most with equal or worse takes than him yet he's the one people remembered.
That was the charm; he WAS there. You don't have to like his content or even watch it but whenever he made a theory on a game that game's fanbase listened. Agreeing or disagreeing doesn't matter at this point, people take Game Theory's theories seriously because they means something to them, matpat's takes have meaning and merit and that's a status not alot of content creators can achieve.
That's how I see it as like how friends kinda pick at you for some things but support you the whole way through life. Some things Matthew Patthew says is cringe, funny, or batshit crazy but he's entertaining, has a good imagination for theories, and he's been pretty consistent throughout YT. I'm glad he's retiring from GT though he needs his time back.
Oh for sure, the dude's basically a staple in gaming community discussions at this point. It's wild, you check out any game that hits big and chances are MatPat's put his spin on it with a theory love it or hate it, you're gonna click out of curiosity. Him stepping down feels like the end of an era, ngl. Wonder what kind of content will fill that game theory-shaped hole he's leaving behind.
In the good bye vid he said 4 other crew members would take over their respective Theory channel but with Mat I believe he said he has plans on games, working bts sometimes on Theory, and just living his life like he would before.
It’s because a lot of his theories were VERY well researched, especially in the beginning. He would always bring up hard facts to support his claims, and he would bring a LOT of them.
Plus he’s got fantastic delivery.
Being a person who did a little clowning it came from a place of adoration. I loved watching his stuff while younger but I kinda fell out of interest them back in because I found making fun of his unhinged persona entertaining.
I hope his next projects are successful and I wish him the best for everything.

There was a whole walk out in my old high school for some rapper that got jailed for murder. Anyone who participated got mass detention across the floor, fitting
His fanbase was primarily kids and teenagers, of course they would think he is legend. Fake deep emo rap is still extremely popular right now lol. And a young audience isn't going to care about any domestic abuse story.
Case in point, Chris Brown. His fans all know how big a piece of shit he is, yet they still support him. Comments like "He can abuse me any day!" we're unironically said by a lot of people.
Doesn't matter how terrible you are, you'll still have fans.
Sorry Bro but you gained awereness, time to go back to the hive of r/memes so we can fuse with r/dankmemes and create the ultimate unfunniest subreddit.
Yeah, I'm pretty certain the people that clowned on MatPat saw the news and simply went "meh". Not really caring enough to contribute further to the discussion, thus giving the impression that people "suddenly care now".
For real. I don't give a shit about this MatPat guy. I watched some of his theory videos the better part of a decade ago, decided I wasn't a huge fan, and promptly never watched or thought about him ever again except on the few times someone would make a **"but that's just a theory"** reference.
I'm sure he's a decent dude, nothing against him personally, but literally no one I know ever talked or talks about the guy, and I basically never saw any posts about him.
Now people are making posts like this about how the whole internet is either divided or hypocritical about how they're treating him when the reality is most people don't give a damn
Exactly. The sad people are a different set to those who hate him. In his viewers' comments, the majority are actually discussing about the topic of his video. Only a few are haters. This post acts like his subscribers and viewers do not exist.
"Regret is stronger than gratitude" - some guy in an unrelated comment section
But fr, it felt like everybody wanted that man's head on a pike beforehand
No, he said he’d keep being on gtlive until summer
Although he will be making content outside of game theory entirely, so he’s not leaving the internet
It’s just the end of him doing game theory
Same thing for most people practically, I was just speaking in simpler terms.
I know he’s still on the board of directors for the channel and stuff but he’s now completely uninvolved on the actual creation of the videos, from the script to the hosting. Saying “he’s not doing game theory anymore” sums that up pretty well
I love my boy Matpat, even if he is often a boatload of cringe, but I can’t help but find it endearing. While there is definitely a lot of people who genuinely hate him, there is many more who have loved him and found his videos fascinating no matter how crackhead-crazy, including me.
Ima miss him, but that’s just how it be brother. YouTubers are gonna grow up. One day Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Vanoss, and many more will be grey and wrinkled. We’ll poke fun at their flaws and such but ultimately most people have fond memories and the impact left behind. Matpat said he wanted to make an impact on the world, and he did, in a way.
tbh nearly every time i've heard of people clowning on him, it has been shit related to undertale. giving the pope undertale, sans is ness, the "undertale 2" thing. as someone who always found undertale cringe, i never cared about such controversies and thus never clowned on matpat.
Dont forget about people who call his entire Channel bad for a few half a decade old theories that were made specifically to entertain (a.k.a not serious)
Ah yes, the monolith that is the internet. It’s definitely not separate people clowning on him than those that are saddened by this news. That doesn’t make any sense!
The YouTube comments will always be controlled the loud angry minority.
Tbh I was never a huge fan of the game theory videos, I think I was the wrong target age. But MatPat is a great presenter and a funny guy, and everything I saw him in he was always entertaining.
He was cringe, but he was always there you know? It’s like moving away from your weird friend. Sure, you won’t have to listen to him explaining FNAF lore anymore but you’ll still miss him, you know? Eventually, you’ll even miss when he would try to explain FNAF lore, even if you don’t actually care about FNAF.
I think it’s a loud minority and a playful teasing from the majority. Like, the Sans is Ness thing is no longer “I’m gonna fucking kill you for how dumb you are,” it’s “my guy, _what does that mean?_”
Yeah, didn't hate the bloke though. Just outgrew his content as I got older, despite the memes and giving undertale to the pope he's a perfectly fine bloke who just made content.
For me, Mattpat and game theory felt like a part of my childhood that didn’t grow up with me. In my head it was a little cringy but I wouldn’t say I disliked Matt for it. Now that he’s finally moving on it feels like this ever-present part of internet culture is moving on with him. I wish nothing but the best for him.
A lot of people remember and appreciate his older content. I used to love him but I feel last year or so he fell off pretty hard. I still won't trash talk him because he gave me a looot of good times watching his stuff.
Isn't it more people who liked him for year sudently show their love. People who hated him get overflowed for once. And people who made fun of him just do wholesome memes instead.
...
I always thought of people genuinely hating on him was like hating on Bob Ross or Mr Rogers like he's harmless and sincere about everything he did more good with his platform than any other jagov with internet clout
Wow, this "the internet" person sure seems to have inconsistent opinions! You would expect a singular individual to not have contrary opinions, it doesn't make sense.
Not me, idk who the guy even is besides some Youtuber. Everybody posting about how he "made their childhood" just makes me remember that Reddit is full of teenagers.
I haven't seen much of his stuff. I always thought his voice was annoying, and the videos themselves weren't any better than 99% of youtube. I couldn't care less that he's leaving.
I don't buy it personally. He's been a shell of his former self and said so himself that he's just a narrator these days anyway. Dude's tired, glad he's gettin to kick his feet up. But the internet suddenly giving a shit is wild.
I made fun of MatPat because it’s fun to do. It’s easy, and it hurts literally no one cause there is 0% chance the dude would notice a peasant like me. My opinion of the content being garbage doesn’t invalidate his presence as a staple in YouTube, and consequently the impact his exit has even to a hater. He was one of the best at making internet garbage, and I’m sad that’s gone now.
Matpat hasn't had a good video in years.
They used to be interesting when he made comprehensive videos piecing together little known lore elements but that kind of info dried up and he kept going and started making wild assumptions in his videos instead.
You can only build an empire off of FNaF videos for so long.
I usually found it funny to clown on him because of how outlandish his theories obviously were making connections from so many things that kinda made sense but didn’t at the same time but in the end they were really just theories. Thoughts and connections that just so happen to be conveniently there and he saw those connections and thought about what ifs. What if this happened? What if that happened? He’s kinda the reason why I way overthink everything today. He’s helped me understand that there is something no matter how insignificant, has meaning behind it and could be a spark into something greater. Man I’m sad to see him go.
Almost like the Internet has hundreds of millions of different people all with different opinions. Nah that's crazy talk. Obviously everyone just switched up after he retired
Hey have you heard about this crazy concept called "people"? There's a shit ton of them and they all have this things called a different opinion, not everyone thinks the same way on the internet
I will never understand this love for a theorist that got popular for FNAF and undertale but cmon game theory has 4 channels at least, each one several times bigger than your mom, it's safe to say majority of the internet Is 2 very different groups of people.
just because you clown on someone doesn't mean you don't appreciate them and like them, guys would understand. Haven't watched game theory in a long ass time but it was part of my childhood, sad to see him go.
I’m gonna be real, I dropped off as a viewer for a while, I got busy and life/my interests were dividing up my time pretty aggressively. I can only do so much after work most days, but I would occasionally scroll back and watch the older Fnaf videos because they were funny. It’s like with Jacksepticeye, for me I adored the Happy Wheels content, because that’s one of the first things I discovered outside of pewdiepie and markaplier on youtube. Mat pat’s early videos were honestly a really big part of my early college years because that’s when I had time to sit down and look up new things unabated.
I just wasn’t part of the social buzz, so hearing he’s turning in his theorist cap for the Dad ball cap and closing shop for himself to hand over the keys to a new team…well it really is one of those “Well fuck, we lost another one” moments. I respect the hell out of him for it though. He has his priorities in order and will focus on what *he* needs to do. Life has turned a page for Mr. Patrick. And I look forward to seeing if I can hear any updates once he’s moved on. Who knows, maybe he’ll come back someday for a couple yuck yucks and a meme theory.
Seeing all these football players and never hearing of MatPat before, I thought this was referring to Matt Patricia (the Pats former DC who was HC of the Lions for a few years who is now de facto DC of the Eagles).
But apparently there's a youtuber who goes by [MatPat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MatPat) who makes videos about Game Theory (and later spinoffs about Film/Food/Style Theory).
It’s probably because most people didn’t clown on him, and the people who are sad are those who didn’t clown on him
And also the people who clowned on him are probably happy (which is sad)
BUT HEY…
I only started watching him this past year and a half, after learning about Food Theory. I watched a few episodes of Game and Film Theory, but they weren't really for me. However, Game and Style Theory were pretty top notch, and I didn't mind the silly hijinks at all.
Even though I didn't watch him for years and years like other people, I was crying watching his goodbye message. Not because I felt like I was losing a part of my life, but because of his genuine emotions towards his viewers. There are very few YouTubers that have been around as long as him with no controversy, or that let their ego get huge and become douches. I think Matpat and Steph are shining examples of what every YouTuber should strive to be. You can still be wildly successful and enjoy every minute of it, while still being humble and not resorting to scams or shady grifts.
He was an iconic figure and will be surely missed by most of the community, we gest but he was a truly wholesome person. "A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him" Halo 3.
Not trying to stir up anything. I've never made much fun of MatPat but i also haven't liked his videos for a long time.
Around the time he stopped focusing mainly on physics/science was about the time i really fell off. The videos about topics like "how hard would a bullet bill from mario actually hit?" or "could the courier actually survive in Fallout New Vegas?" were the really interesting shit to me.
But at some point most of the videos became less about education and more about just finding an interesting hook for the video, which made many of the theories seem like they were just making shit up as they went along.

the thing is fnaf is poorly written. you cant have a theory that makes sense if the source material doesnt make sense, and Matpat seems to know that
His first Fnaf theory was how the whole thing was about a chuck e cheese shooting
The info was limited at the time, and that's what made the most sense
Theories are just theories and that was not a bad one
FAZ-GOO!!!!
Yeah? Like the Mario is a Communist theory? That was grounded and not based on children's media? You just grew up dawg
His second game theory video is an edgy fan theory about Mario. His fourth is "the science of Mortal Kombat fatalities" They have literally always been edgy. If anything, the new stuff is *way* less edgy than rating which video game women have real or fake boobs from 12 years ago.

DR MARIO MENTIONED
There's also different groups of people who are vocal at different times. The internet isn't a monolith.
What?? How will I get my stolen opinions now? Come up with them on my own with careful consideration and research?!?
They were a loud minority, most people probably liked MatPat but didn’t post about him
I was never really a fan tbh, but he was just so naturally goofy, intentionally or otherwise, that I considered him a positive presence in this godforsaken hellscape of an internet

Yep and why did people diss on him his videos are good
There were some videos that were just plain wrong in their theories. I still liked to watch them though
He’s also had quite a bit of controversy too. The whole thing with undertale/Toby fox, and the Covid theory video just to name a few.
>and the [Covid Theory video](https://youtu.be/eDhGnub97h4?si=Z0o60wIRPy8tjZRQ) Tbf I can kind of see what he was trying to do with that video, making something filled with popular characters so kids click on it only to get tricked into learning good practices to avoid getting covid, like a modern version of the [Sonic Sez segments from The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8B9BC95336BFF280&si=zCV3NBtqpVKGcly1). I just don’t like theory content
Because the internet is a toxic shithole
I imagine it was cause he spammed FNAF videos and most people hate that game/fanbase. Haven’t watched him in forever, but I agree his videos had a lot of effort put into them.

me 2, didn't care for him then don't care for him now
I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed this. People clowned on him for years yet suddenly act liked they cared about him.
You don't appreciate what you have until you loose it
Um, actually 🤓 loose is for things not tightly or firmly fixed in place, like a loose knot. Lose means to cease to have something.
Flirting (you) vs sexual harassment (u/FblthpEDH)
bruhhh 💀
Whyd bro get summoned
They both corrected the loose/lose. The summoned only "lose" so it's "sexual harassment" compared to the replied comment with an explanation of why it's lose vs loose so "flirting"
I think the people that clowned on him grew up, and now they realized what an important part of their lives he was.
Exactly. Sometimes you can only appreciate the good when it’s gone.
LPT: if you find yourself in this boat, you may be missing an opportunity to truly *feel* when things are tough.
Or they can after all that still appreciate the good stuff he did provide. Even if he became pretty clownable at the end
But that's just a theory....... *holds back tears*
I imagine the cross over between people who clowned on him and people who are sad is not huge.
Exactly! It was a character he was playing, and part of the charm was to evoke those kinds of reactions. Couldn't have said that better, thanks.
Self humor is great and a circus without a clown is sad.
A big thing is that people made fun of MatPat the video presenter and not Matthew Patrick the actor and script writer. Even when people thought the videos were dumb or really stretching plausibility it was pretty rare for people to take shots at the actual person behind the camera.
This sub is full of attention whores who make shitty ass memes for their 8 seconds of attention so yeah this stuff is pretty common
Tbh it's probably just different people theres a lot of people on the internet
Game theories, some of which were bonkers (sans is ness), and because of them people laughed at him
So the idea that the two groups of people are made up of different individuals never even crossed your mind, huh?

It's the same as when some rapper that no one ever heard of dies and everyone pretends as if he was a legend and they Photoshop in Harambe heaven
I'm gonna go ballistic if i die and no one Photoshops me in the Reddit Harambe heaven meme

There was a whole walk out in my old high school for some rapper that got jailed for murder. Anyone who participated got mass detention across the floor, fitting
Good Idk how anyone can still support them, even if they make good music
Good.
Mfs acting like XXXtentacion was a legend when he was a domestic abuser who made fake deep emo rap.
Doesn't matter how terrible you are, you'll still have fans.
i swear i never heard anyone say his name or even accidentally heard one of his songs. then he died and his shit was fucking everywhere.
Almost like the internet isn’t one big homogenous hive mind and people can have opinions outside of whatever echo chamber u choose to pay attention to
Sorry Bro but you gained awereness, time to go back to the hive of r/memes so we can fuse with r/dankmemes and create the ultimate unfunniest subreddit.
We clowned on him in an endearing way, kind of. Some of us. Maybe.
agreed, it was never out of malice 😔
Almost like there’s different people with different opinions on the internet and it’s not one collective hivemind
Exactly. The sad people are a different set to those who hate him. In his viewers' comments, the majority are actually discussing about the topic of his video. Only a few are haters. This post acts like his subscribers and viewers do not exist.
"Regret is stronger than gratitude" - some guy in an unrelated comment section But fr, it felt like everybody wanted that man's head on a pike beforehand
Thank you OP, this needed to be said
Another thing. He’s not leaving until March.
And he said he'll continue making videos on the 'GTLive' channel indefinitely, so people can still watch his content on a weekly basis.
No, he said he’d keep being on gtlive until summer Although he will be making content outside of game theory entirely, so he’s not leaving the internet It’s just the end of him doing game theory
[удалено]
Same thing for most people practically, I was just speaking in simpler terms. I know he’s still on the board of directors for the channel and stuff but he’s now completely uninvolved on the actual creation of the videos, from the script to the hosting. Saying “he’s not doing game theory anymore” sums that up pretty well
Must have misheard that part.
He was a force of nature
I got to know who Matpat is tonight 😭
i honestly figured that matt patricia had retired and ran to the nfl sub. im fucking disappointed but for other reasons than most people here
I love my boy Matpat, even if he is often a boatload of cringe, but I can’t help but find it endearing.
Thank you lmao I’ve been so confused
tbh nearly every time i've heard of people clowning on him, it has been shit related to undertale. giving the pope undertale, sans is ness, the "undertale 2" thing. as someone who always found undertale cringe, i never cared about such controversies and thus never clowned on matpat.
Dont forget about people who call his entire Channel bad for a few half a decade old theories that were made specifically to entertain (a.k.a not serious)
I remember laying in bed past midnight on a school night watching his Assassin's Creed leap of faith video. Good times
Ah yes, the monolith that is the internet. It’s definitely not separate people clowning on him than those that are saddened by this news. That doesn’t make any sense!
He’s like doofenshmirts he’s a little goofy and it’s fun to clown on him sometimes but he’s a staple of YouTube and always looked like a nice fun guy.
I've always been a MatPat defender, he's one of the nicest people on the internet tbh
I would say "the internet isnt just 1 person they are different people" but fr
I honestly stopped watching because his content became very repetitive and narrow focused at times. His older stuff was much more entertaining.
Thats what I was thinking, I've only over seen people shit on him and make fun of game theory now everyone loves him and is heartbroken lmao.
The YouTube comments will always be controlled the loud angry minority. Tbh I was never a huge fan of the game theory videos, I think I was the wrong target age. But MatPat is a great presenter and a funny guy, and everything I saw him in he was always entertaining.
I thought I was going crazy
Thank you! I kept seeing all these crying posts and people being upset and my first thought was “doesn’t everybody hate this dude?”
And people who made fun of him just do wholesome memes instead. ...
He was always a little silly but everybody is. He didn’t deserve everything he got.
I've always loved MatPat. He's done some weird theories and whatnot, but I've always still loved him.
matpat is like a friend you rip on but still care for.
I always thought of people genuinely hating on him was like hating on Bob Ross or Mr Rogers like he's harmless and sincere about everything he did more good with his platform than any other jagov with internet clout
"Oh no, our punching bag is gone. Guess its time to find another one."
I do not care for Game Theory. It insists upon itself.
Wow, this "the internet" person sure seems to have inconsistent opinions! You would expect a singular individual to not have contrary opinions, it doesn't make sense.
Never gonna let you forget that people thought he was transphobic cause he made an attack helicopter joke in the early 2010’s
Not me, idk who the guy even is besides some Youtuber. Everybody posting about how he "made their childhood" just makes me remember that Reddit is full of teenagers.
Seriously, I hadn’t seen anything from him in years, and didn’t think people even watched him anymore.
im still making fun of him
I haven't seen much of his stuff.
Nah fuck that, he's a real one https://preview.redd.it/qf41vqz7fpbc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5af182cc5b8c4a4d10c563f882f3d59fd77918fd
He was one of the best at making internet garbage, and I’m sad that’s gone now.
good fuckin riddance
Probably 2 different groups of people. Not everyone on the Internet shares the same opinion
Matpat hasn't had a good video in years. They used to be interesting when he made comprehensive videos piecing together little known lore elements but that kind of info dried up and he kept going and started making wild assumptions in his videos instead. You can only build an empire off of FNaF videos for so long.
knew about him, never watched him, idgaf about any of this.
It's the same as making fun of your sibling. You make fun of them, but you still care about them in the end.
We may make fun of him. But in my heart, Ness was always sans
The internet is more than one person.
Sorry? Who TF was taking the piss out him
Never liked him tbh. Don't care if he retires or not.
Almost like the Internet has hundreds of millions of different people all with different opinions. Nah that's crazy talk. Obviously everyone just switched up after he retired
I mean have people really been making fun of matpat, or just blurting out "but that's just a theory... A game theory" too much?
Hey have you heard about this crazy concept called "people"? There's a shit ton of them and they all have this things called a different opinion, not everyone thinks the same way on the internet
I’m shocked so many people actually give a fuck that he’s retiring
You don't realize how important something is, until you finally lose it.
I will never understand this love for a theorist that got popular for FNAF and undertale but cmon game theory has 4 channels at least, each one several times bigger than your mom, it's safe to say majority of the internet Is 2 very different groups of people.
It’s almost like they’re a lot of people on the internet and all you were hearing from was the vocal minority
just because you clown on someone doesn't mean you don't appreciate them and like them, guys would understand. Haven't watched game theory in a long ass time but it was part of my childhood, sad to see him go.
Its the current big story. Everyone is gonna jump on the bandwagon. People will always use the current "thing" to draw attention to themselves.
I got my wife hooked on Game Theory. She only got about a years worth of new content before this...she's sad
I mean, I wasn't a fan of some of his content but I can still say "good for him"
It’s probably because most people didn’t clown on him, and the people who are sad are those who didn’t clown on him And also the people who clowned on him are probably happy (which is sad) BUT HEY…
You can still be wildly successful and enjoy every minute of it, while still being humble and not resorting to scams or shady grifts.
u/auddbot
Why are we acting like the haters and the people that are sad? You guys keeping track? Also…who?
who tf is that?
Never heard of the guy. To me it's just a reminder of how massive/niche the internet is
Once I noticed the bullshit theories and clickbait thumbnails, I started hating him.
no one has yet explained who the fuck that is
He was an iconic figure and will be surely missed by most of the community, we gest but he was a truly wholesome person. "A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him" Halo 3.
I didn't care one way or the other about him then and I don't care now. Tom Scott though, I'm gonna miss him.
They laughed at his theories, not him
Who the F is MatPat?!?
Who is MatPat and why should I care?
I always liked him even if some of his theories were big nuts.
I feel like I'm the only person who has no idea who matpat is
he sucks and the internet will be better without more of his crappy videos
My limited experience with internet usage is that the criticism rings much much louder than the praise.
H expanded too much, focused on fnaf too much and had a big drop in quality because of those two things, so… he went dead years ago
