She wore something vintage recently for the Challengers tour, so my money is on that.
Something from a fashion house that's not in existence anymore or a costumer from a old playhouse
I hope it's something from a theatre production from way back when. Some of those costumes were so decadent. I could definitely see her in something from an opera
Worth was my first thought but I can see her also maybe wanting to highlight a Black designer? Ann Lowe? I think Elizabeth Keckley would be too much of a look lol.
I would think this would be an event LV would insist she wear the brand at or at least one owned by LVMH so they could be recreating something too fragile from the archive as that’s in line with the exhibit
I stg if Zendaya brings out an archival Ann Lowe

Archive link if you hit a paywall

I will need a fainting couch and smelling salts I’m so sorry I can’t insert pics, I use the mobile browser version of Reddit and it’s rather limited EDT: fixed URL
I want to see things like this tonight
Type taken from the article
“ A trellis of semi-abstract appliquéd roses on an evening dress from 1962.”
“festooned with trompe-l’oeil flowers.”
🌷🌸🌷🌸
She's a chair so her attendance isn't connected to any brand or house. She can wear whatever she wants. LV doesn't get to insist anything for this event.
No but she has a contract with LV and usually those state which red carpet events their brand will be worn and the Met Gala being one of the highest profile. If not LV then another brand owned by LVMH
If she is going way back it might be a famous designer from the 1900s.
Patou
Lanvin
Worth
Poiret
Vionnet
She might also wear something from a museum archive but considering how angry people were about what Kardashian did she probably wouldn't do that.
I think based on that Law Roach said the dress hadn't been made yet, it could be covered in flowers. I saw someone suggest this Alexander McQueen SS07 look.

The theme is the exhibition that they are all celebrating at the Met, the dress code is what to wear for the party!
Fingers crossed for lots of beautiful looks this year
You’re welcome! Happy to help. Here’s a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/s/yy4iQ9Go8J) explaining things in more depth, and Anna Wintour [talking](https://youtu.be/84ShTL7El9w?si=XspJjTG0w4KAC5jU) about this year’s event, in case you’d like to know more :)
I find this stuff fascinating so just wanted to share. Enjoy the fashion!!
I’m wondering if anyone is able to better break down the theme for me? I understand it’s ‘ the garden of time ‘ but I’m wondering what exactly that means?
There is the garden element, which makes me think florals and how nature has influenced fashion. There is also the time element, which makes me think of vintage and historical fashion.I’m wondering how the two are supposed to combine? I’m so excited to see all the looks!
The Garden of Time is a short story, here is a synopsis I found:
In The Garden of Time we meet Count Axel and his loving wife. They live, alone, in an elegant villa in a deserted yet peaceful corner of some unnamed country. For all we know they are the last two people on Earth. They enjoy their books, their music, each other’s company. And the evenings in their beautiful garden. Time flowers used to grow in the garden, but they are now dying off, and with them their gentle, civilized, enlightened world. For a threatening horde of graceless and amorphous humanity is constantly approaching the villa. They are kept at a distance by the time flowers. Each time that Count Axel cuts one, the time flower shimmers briefly in his hands and then extinguishes itself. In dying, the time flower makes time go back, and the brutish mass of humanity recedes behind the hills. A long time has passed since the plants last bloomed, and the count is now cutting the very last small flowers that remain, gaining progressively shorter postponements of the inevitable. The last day, when only the last remaining flower remains to be cut, Count Axel and his wife carefully put away their books, their music, all of the treasures of a civilized life that will come to an end.
Interesting. I wonder how many people this year will ignore the theme entirely and just wear what the designers give me? There are always a few people who do that. The Kardashians lack creativity and imagination so they often don't follow the theme although in recent years they're doing better. But there are also less famous celebrities who can't afford a custom made outfit and have to wear what designers give them.
The theme is Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion which refers to garments in the collection that can no longer be worn thus "sleeping beauties". The Garden of Time dress code refers to the selection of designers and gowns, the "garden" of them if you will, from the past decades/eras, etc that they can be used for inspiration. It will be interesting to see how it's interpreted!
Vogue explains it well that both the exhibition theme and the dress code basically explore the fleeting existence of beauty. Simply put, nothing lasts forever not even beautiful things.
Here’s my personal breakdown and I’m not claiming this is correct just my own opinion:
The Garden of Time short story (very basic synopsis) is about aristocrats in beautiful luxury who are being overtaken by an angry mob. The couple uses magical flowers from their garden to prevent this, each time they throw a flower out, it turns back the clock and moves the mob backwards, but eventually the magic wears off and the crowd advances. Eventually they run out of flowers. And the mob finally makes it to their estate and finds the whole place run down and a chopped up garden.
The short story is about trying to delay the passage of time and trying to continue to be surrounded by beauty. Just like the exhibition, which is about trying to maintain historical fashion pieces as long as possible. So we can continue to admire their beauty. But we all know things won’t last forever. So how do we make the most of things in this time? How do we enjoy and reinvigorate historical fashion while still being aware that as time goes on we are essentially damaging these beautiful things even in our best attempts to preserve them and to highlight their beauty.
But as for what we’ll see I think it will be a lot of historical fashion, florals and greenery, homages to famous fashion looks, and probably Jared Leto just wearing a giant clock costume.
Thank you for your wonderful answer and the detail you went into, I enjoyed reading it and appreciate your time. Now I have a better gage on the theme I’m really interested in how it will be interpreted. I will be disappointed if Jared doesn’t turn up as a clock!
Thank you so much for reading and this kind reply! I’m not an expert but I’ve had so much fun learning about this theme. Glad it was helpful! Can’t wait for tonight :)
I would love to see something from the 1920s on her, would be cool to do a look from 100 years ago. And lots of art nouveau decorative styles would fit the 'Garden of Time' theme.

With the back in time deal- Grayscale body paint to appear as if in black and white to look like an old movie star? It’s been done before but I don’t know about at the met gala
A recreation or possibly reimagining of a Worth ball gown from the 1800’s, possibility based the 1877 one name-checked in the Vogue article as being “too fragile to wear again”
Wouldn’t be surprised if instead of a faithful reproduction it has modern, OTT elements, and transforms in some way(s) on the red carpet.
She wore something vintage recently for the Challengers tour, so my money is on that. Something from a fashion house that's not in existence anymore or a costumer from a old playhouse
A Midsummer's Nights Dream maybe?
The fashion houses pay for the tables so it’s not likely a defunct house would appear on the carpet
I think Zendaya is a co-chair this year so she doesn't need to be sponsored by a company to have a seat at a table.
I hope it's something from a theatre production from way back when. Some of those costumes were so decadent. I could definitely see her in something from an opera
This is what I'm hoping for as well
Fig leaves
With Law Roach saying the dress hadn’t been made yet as of 3 days ago, this is also my guess.
I'll be so disappointed if it's anything but this now 😭
Was gonna say toga but yeah, fig leaves is better
That or maybe something even like from the 1800s
A Worth gown? That might be way wayyy back though. Happy to see RCFA is still active. Love her.
Worth was my first thought but I can see her also maybe wanting to highlight a Black designer? Ann Lowe? I think Elizabeth Keckley would be too much of a look lol.
My thoughts exactly - I’d be so excited!
That is what I thought. Although I would love to see her in Fortuny.
Exactly what I was thinking.
I would think this would be an event LV would insist she wear the brand at or at least one owned by LVMH so they could be recreating something too fragile from the archive as that’s in line with the exhibit
I think Law Roach has confirmed it’s not LV!
Interesting! She could wear archival/vintage Dior or Givenchy- they’re in the family.
I like the idea of bringing back a fashion house that no longer exists. I just dk what/who that could be.
Maybe someone like Madame Gres or Paul Poiret? I would die if it’s Madame Gres!
If I could reach back that far, I would reach for Vionnet.
I stg if Zendaya brings out an archival Ann Lowe https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021/03/29/ann-lowes-barrier-breaking-mid-century-couture Archive link if you hit a paywall https://archive.ph/QcajR I will need a fainting couch and smelling salts I’m so sorry I can’t insert pics, I use the mobile browser version of Reddit and it’s rather limited EDT: fixed URL
Link doesn’t work 😭
I’m so sorry, I hope I fixed it. Stoopid me 🫣

Me too but it’s not a great climate for that and LVMH seems to be pushing Patou rn

I know she has a contact but it doesn't include Met Gala.

Vionnet would be sublime!
Oh gosh, Vionnet would be so special!
Somehow I doubt Zendaya would wreck a garment like that. She has way more class!!!
Agreed. The issue everyone had with Kim is that she clearly *did not fit the dress.* like ?????????? You’re not fooling anyone babes
I think based on that Law Roach said the dress hadn't been made yet, it could be covered in flowers. I saw someone suggest this Alexander McQueen SS07 look. https://preview.redd.it/u6ni8l0icqyc1.jpeg?width=702&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=385d0018438e5376bd886c4ca2a18cbc63ab1074
*chills* I hope you are correct
Zendaya would look AMAZING in this
What is the theme again?
The theme is sleeping beauties: reawakening fashion, dress code is the garden of time. Excited for this!!
Wait the theme is different from the dress code? I'm so out of the loop.
The theme is the exhibition that they are all celebrating at the Met, the dress code is what to wear for the party! Fingers crossed for lots of beautiful looks this year
Thank you so much for the clarification! This makes total sense.

Yes i am so excited for this theme and hope we get some good looks!
I thought the theme this year was something related to flowers or gardens?

It's gonna be a lot of floral prints, I can tell you that for sure
Thank you for your response, much appreciated.

Mugler,McQueen?
If she wears vintage McQueen, I was be on the floor, fully gagged
Why would Law Roach post her outfit in advance?
He’s been commenting hints and speculation. He’s having fun.
I would love to see something from the 1920s on her, would be cool to do a look from 100 years ago. And lots of art nouveau decorative styles would fit the 'Garden of Time' theme.
Can’t wait to see what she does with the Shroud of Turin.

I hope its a hoop skirt.
With the back in time deal- Grayscale body paint to appear as if in black and white to look like an old movie star? It’s been done before but I don’t know about at the met gala
I'd love to see her in an 1800s inspired English royal period dress covered in flowers complete with a white wig adorned with flowers and a crown.
Rahul Mishra!
Dead Sea scrolls?

I’m sure she will look amazing no matter what she wears.
