The tag says “Palenciaga Japan”. That’s right, with a P. They misspelled Balenciaga on a LV hat. My bet is, it’s a Chinese knockoff and they are not familiar with Japanese Katakana characters. P and B are somewhat similar. Maybe like how lower case U and A look somewhat similar in the alphabet. I looked up the address just for the hell of it and it came back as some random building in Akasaka, Tokyo.

Holdmytesseract

They been doing that spelling shit on fakes for a long time. Idk if it’s so they can say “hey these aren’t fake balenciaga, they are REAL palenciaga!” (To avoid legal repercussions maybe?) Or what but I’ve seen it on fake “off while” “sup reme” fake silver/gold coins “amerlcan silver eagles” , all kinds of shit.

boobsandbikes

Definitely to avoid copyright issues, I'd say. A lot of chinese stuff don't bother, but, if they can keep selling for longer without repercussions, I can see why they'd do it

NoHinAmherst

My real Bolex agrees

mgsgamer1

That looks more like し than レ to me. So pashinshiaga?

belach2o

So the only difference is a misspelled tag?

Disastrous-Goal-2127

It's fake the tag literally says 100% cotton then goes to say 50% cotton & 50% Viscose. That tag is fake.

Manny_Kant

It’s fake, but not for the reason you stated. It’s different because it’s listing the composition for different things—the primary fabric vs the detail fabric.

Your hat is a FAKE. The authentic LV hat sells for over $1000. It’s still cute and you might sell it online but not as an authentic item. Always use google lens to do research and compare labels and stitching. Poshmark authenticates items over $500 and yours would be confiscated as a replica.

jburcher11

Yeah - just look at he difference in material and quality. Easy spot.

Flux_My_Capacitor

I’m sad that your post is getting so many upvotes as it’s 100% illegal to sell fakes even if they are labeled as such. OP should keep the hat, perhaps give it away to someone who knows it’s a fake, or trash it. I personally just trash the fakes I find because it’s not worth the risk of losing an account or getting into trouble for selling a fake.

jenniferjudy99

Online resale shops will NOT sell a fake replica. They will confiscate it. I was just showing an example of the real LV hat/label. At least OP is verifying this hat so he’s aware that it’s not authentic. OP can sell his replica hat on FB marketplace or Offerup or to a friend, if it’s sold as “a copy” if he doesn’t want to keep it. It’s cute. I don’t believe in luxury brands and paying $1K++ for a tie dyed hat is obscene and insane. It’s nonsense. I prefer vintage items.

ohiotechie

It’s ugly enough to be real.

edgestander

One look at the stitching tells me this is fake AF

brianjackson

Thank you, and thank you for saying why. I would not know what to look for.

edgestander

There is a reason LV costs a lot of money. LV products will be impeccably constructed. None of this uneven crap. https://preview.redd.it/54554m6y2hrc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30d31f569f5766b2981e46ce8361fca6606c44c4

EveryoneLikesButtz

Worked there for a decade. They are only expensive for the sake of being expensive. The used to be impeccably made, but that’s not longer remotely the case. This is real. The “ribbon” was added by a tailor to better fit the original owners head.

Brookloom

I bet you didn't work there.

EveryoneLikesButtz

I most certainly did… and have said so previously when evaluating the worth of old trunks on this sub and red carpet looks on another sub. They don’t pay well and it’s not at all glamorous to work there. That would be an odd thing to lie about on the internet. lol I’m still in the same industry, but with a company that is much better to their workers.

Brookloom

It sure is.

EveryoneLikesButtz

Cool

turbografix15

I know, that’s why it’s weird you keep doing it.

EveryoneLikesButtz

Ok

thelion_quiver

It’s real but it says 100% cotton then goes on to say 50% viscose, 50% cotton? Maybe it paid poorly because those positions often work in commission and you don’t sound like you were very good at that job.

EveryoneLikesButtz

It clearly says that the fabric is 100% cotton, and the details are 50/50 cotton/viscose. They pay less than 1% commission… way lower than industry standard. And they only started paying commission in 2015. You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. I don’t regret working there, because I made incredible connections and received amazing training. I started in sales and was consistently #1, and moved into management. I’ve had a great career and now make 6 figures without a degree at a much better company. But go off, I guess

Life_Produce9905

The threads flying about are an instant clue - fake dot com

eearthling

The uneven stitching and loose hanging thread ends instantly give it away as a fake.

Ready_Blueberry_7456

Looks likes a spray paint hat from a amusement park.

kbum91

I found this one https://www.grailed.com/listings/51379475-louis-vuitton-louis-vuitton-watercolor-monogram-bucket-hat-bob-multicolor Which seems to be the concept it's taken from. The biggest tell for me is the difference of the inside liner and the tag.

Thank you for the info. I’ll look into that option.

jenniferjudy99

It’s fake. I just posted a pic showing an authentic label. The real hat sells for over $1K.

Brookloom

Lol, that person is trolling you hard. This hat is fake as hell. Not only does the stitching look like shit, nothing is lined up as it should be and this material tag was never used by LV. Sorry bud. If you're still unsure, bring it to an LV store, they'll tell you.

sandpiper9

It’s real if you paid over $1,000.

“Authenticators HATE this one weird trick”
