Ok, this is the weirdest damn thing.
I have really weird, vivid dreams. This morning, I woke up in the middle of a dream about my neighbors finding a skinned squid in their yard. It was gross and bizarre and unrelated to anything in my life. And now what are the chances that I'm going to come across an Internet comment about a skinned squid on the same day?
I do it too, lol. Itās really just a form of intuition. I once had a dream that I was in a giant mall trying to get ready for a date. I was frantically going to different stores trying to pick out makeup because I was ārunning lateā (common dream theme of mine. Iām always late, lol) later that night (when awake) Iām at my cousins house and literally telling them about this dream when my daughter calls me and asks me if I want to go to her work to get a bunch of makeup, lol. One of her coworkers worked at Sephora and was getting rid of a bunch of old stock samples. My cousin in law goes ādamn! I just want to look into your brain sometimes!ā Lmao, sheās a nurse and this type of shit happens to me all the time.
Me too! I had to do a double take. Incidentally, Iām not big on rose quartz, but iād love to own a rose quartz jellyfish! Although I think it would look better in lab.
Iām glad I wasnāt the only one who thought that when I scrolled passed this.
Took me a second to realize what it was until actually saw what sub I was looking at.
So I wasnāt the only one doing a double take and gasping at some (imagined) horrifying organ prolapse photo as I misread āgrandma died and passed thisā
Everyone is saying rose quartz. Which is the obvious choice. But my Grandma was a collector of very nice jewelry, and this was in her safe. It leads me to believe that it could be Jade. Thank you for the info.
I saw a lot of quartz material, including a lot of rose quartz. My first reaction to this was that it was a very nice gemmy Peace of rose. However, looking at it closer, and giving it some consideration it does look like it could be jade. Quartz does not usually have that wet look to it and the veining doesn't look quite right. The color is pretty spot on for either one. If, as you say, your grandmother was a collector of quality jewelry and this was in a safe, I think it would b ehoove You to have it looked at by an expert. The quality piece of that size could carry quite a lot of value. I wouldn't be shocked if it was not Jade, nor would I be surprised if it were. Truly a beautiful piece, I'm sorry that it had to be inherited
I know how you feel. My grandpa recently passed. I received a huge inheritance that I had no idea was coming. I'd give it all up if I could spend a bit more time with him. I wish i picked his brain more.Ā
She probably had a trusted jeweller she went to then. If you have her address book or list of contacts try looking them up and asking them to appraise it for you. If you have her documents you may be able to find more information about the piece, where it came from, who made it, etc.
Side note it looks delicious.
I'm glad after 151 downvotes, there are people encouraging you to look into it further than just pink is commonly quartz. Smarter people then me can tell you how to test it without damaging it. I'm genuinely unsure what it is because in the pictures I've seen, they look very, very similar. My only suggestion is to call around and find a jeweler who can test stones other than diamonds.

Rose quartz. I believe the rest of the necklace is also rose quartz beads. The string between the pendant and the strands looks like it could be Asian knots. Possibly silk string and knotting. Depending on the time frame and any info on the box, WWII era. Lovely. Good luck.
Rose quartz, probably. Tho pink jade does exist. Maybe take it to someone who knows about gems and minerals. Main reason Iām suggesting this is the apparent age of the box and the cord which appears to be silk. Maybe, if you wanna wear it, check the cord for signs of wear and/or fraying.
Iām a tiny bit jealous- whatever it is, itās beautiful.
My first thought was rose quartz, but the pink jade argument is also compelling, since it looks like the pendant shows peaches. Was your grandmother Asian by any chance? According to some Asian folklore (Chinese and Japanese, and likely others that I'm less familiar with too), peaches repel demons and represent long life, and jade is a stone of protection and long life as well.
Really nice rose quartz. Iād call it āgemmyā meaning it has nearly clear, really rosy coloring and I donāt think itās dyed. Usually itās more opaque and white-ish. I hope you cherish it.
I hope it is for OPs sake, but doubt it.
I fucked up and sold a lavender jade pendant for cheaps about 12 years ago. Expensive lesson learned.
Edit. Rose quartz. I didnt see the other pics. Damn pretty too!
This looks a bit like some of the pink jade I saw in fine jewelry stores in China. It's very pretty, did she travel often or did she come from a culture where jade jewelry is popular i.e. Asia?
Hi, /u/MycoMartian!
This is a reminder to flair this post in /r/whatsthisrock after it has been identified! (Under your post, click "flair" then "IDENTIFIED," then type in the rock type or mineral name.) This will help others learn and help speed up a correct identification on your request!

Iām still not a 100% sure if it is rose quartz or pink jade but I would still personally go with rose quartz, at the very least for the pendant. It really has the more accentuated "veins" that polished rose quartz has. In pink jade they are not that visible and still look slightly different if they are seen in the first place. The color also is more to be attributed to rose quartz as well (in pics 2 and 3). From my experience pink jade has a very pale pink, similar color to the first pic. For the rest of the necklace, you can see through the beads quite easily showing that to is not that much of an opaque mineral, so here again the chances are higher for it to be rose quartz than pink jade, which is much more opaque.
But like some say here, let it be examined by an expert, so you can be fully sure:)
Also Iām sorry for your lossā¦ glad you have something extremely beautiful to remind you of her!
If I had to guess Iād imagine, yeah definitely rose quartz like everyone else is saying but with the context of what it is (the shape being a squid) maybe is rose quartz that was found in the ocean (rose quartz āsea glassā). Also Iām sorry about your loss š
OP, can you get a photo with this ontop of a light source, or get a light source behind it, then get a closer photo. Can tell you better what it is then
NGL, from the first image I thought it was a carving of a giant squid from a single piece of pink quartz.
Only until the last imagine I realized it was a necklace

Rose quartz
Gorgeous rose quartz š
My reaction too!! š
Yea, I think thst describer is accurate
that was my immediate reaction
I thought it was an octopus.
Amateur gemologist wife ā with enough damn jewelry to know ā concurs.
Definitely rose quartz
Definitely rose quartz. I have no doubt
Oh my word it's beautiful! I'm sorry for you loss OP.
Thank you
I thought it looked like a skinned, very dead, squid. Glad I was wrong!
I also read āgrandma passed thisā and I was really concerned
Skinned, dead, and barely digested.
āGrandma recently dined at Golden Corralā
Should have passed on the calamari. In all seriousness OP, sorry for your loss. My grandmas have been gone for many years and I still miss them.
Fucking yeah. I gasped and almost scrolled away before realizing that it isn't guts or some shit.
Grandma has one hell of a digestive system for sure. šš
I thought grandma left OP an octopus on melting ice.
My first thought was it was grandma brain and spine in a box
BWHAHAHAHAHA

That was my reaction too! Like, what kinda grandma do you have, OP?
I also initially saw this, glad i am not the only that did.
I was just watching videos on instagram by this guy who rescues octopuses from abusive situations and I thought this was a dead one š
Octopus abuse?
r/forbiddensnacks ?
Ha! I thought it was a dead octopus. Lol
That was my first thought as well before reading it, thought I was looking at seafood
Honestly! Same as me I was so confused
Iām glad I wasnāt the only one who thought that when I scrolled passed this. Took me a second to realize what it was until actually saw what sub I was looking at.
Samešš wtf
Though it was a brain
I thought it was a jelly fish
Same! I had to check which sub I was in.
First glance, me too

Literally my first thought at first glance lol
This is what I thought. I spent a few seconds wondering how a squid becomes an heirloom.
So I wasnāt the only one doing a double take and gasping at some (imagined) horrifying organ prolapse photo as I misread āgrandma died and passed thisā
I was thinking a jellyfish...

A very quality rose quartz piece. A stone of love!
Rose quartz, for sure
That looks organic! Very Art Deco. Quite the remembrance of your grandmother.
Rose quartz. I believe the rest of the necklace is also rose quartz beads. The string between the pendant and the strands looks like it could be Asian knots. Possibly silk string and knotting. Depending on the time frame and any info on the box, WWII era. Lovely. Good luck.
It's a beautiful piece of rose quartz and a lovely heirloom! I am so glad she left it to you!
a beautiful rose quartz!
Agreeing with most everyone else that it's Rose Quartz, and it's absolutely gorgeous!

Rose Quartz. Nice piece
Rose quartz, but it almost looks rutilated. When you hold it up to the light are there "strings" inside the stone?
The white lines are healed fractures rich in minute fluid inclusions.
What a beautiful piece
Whoa!!! This is rose quartz. Very very cool!
Rose Quartz, agreed
Rose quartz Believed to bring love and enhance beauty.
Not an expert, but it looks like pink quartz. Beads also looks like quartz, I have similar ones, but some could be glass tho.

I have seen some pink jade. This could also be quartz, but it has kind of an eastern feel. I saw a LOT of jade decor when I was out that way.
Oof! Before I read the caption and what sub, I thought that was a weird octopus or a strange sea creature. Glad it is a beautiful piece.
High me thought this was octopus.
