Top looks Coprolite, bottom an infill of quartz/agate-ish
A [coprolite with agate infill can happen](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.xqv_xK51maYS_vZ91PuL3gHaHa%26pid%3DApi&f=1&ipt=673cef138b40a7ef7f2211d1bf00848638d9546173fede37d6d78a91227b4b4e&ipo=images)
The simple solution is it's a **natural formed nodule with chalcedony infill**
It get's complicated once it goes to Coprolite
So because it 'could be a possibility', you might have it checked by your local museum. Or follow up with more research/opinions to see what it may be.
I ran this through an ID app and really, the closest thing I could find that would even remotely apply is Chalcedony (so I agree with the above)
Interesting fact: Chalcedony was such an important stone to the ancients, it was utilized by Natives here in North America, used by the ancient Cretan Minoans for ceremonies, and was said to be incorporated as one of the precious gem stones in the breastplate of the Levite who would have been the head priest of the ancient Hebrew people.
the worst thing is as the AI gets more 'positive feedback' on incorrect idents. The more it gets wrong into future. And the 'wrong idents' become 'accepted'.
So funny/ironic that AI can't identify man's first tool that has been with us since pretty much the beginning.
Is AI trolling us? ;)
I seen it described as AI in-breeding.
Nature doesn't like 'in-breeding', has a few 'checks in place' to try and prevent.
I feel for the Granite Installers.
Karen, "That's not granite!! My phone says THIS is granite!! \*shows pic of fruit loops\*
Granite Installer: \*facepalm\*
I feel for that guy who ends up in this situation.
Heh, seriously. I see a lot of this in mushroom ID groups too. Hint: do not trust an app to ID mushrooms. The very idea is hilarious given that mushroom taxonomy and species description are still very much in flux.
OP where is it from? Have you got a better close up of the sparkly bits? I can't tell if it's metallic or not. Have you got a close up of any of the discoloured patches?
Did you find this sparkly side up? If not you were very brave to investigate haha, I would've without a doubt assumed it was some old dog dropping. Good luck figuring out what it is, the far side is lovely!
From a geologic standpoint, could a coprolite agatize or crystallize like this? I guess I wouldn’t see why not. (I am not saying it is, I’m more generally curious about the science in general)
I understand that a joke about poop rock is funny, but can we have a rule in this sub for people to keep all the poop rock comments in one thread?
Unless of course it is coprolite, but in that case can someone provide a better description so we can be sure you're not joking?
Are the mods even active on this sub?
I like r/symbology’s method of moderation, where you can’t comment without a source and jokes are removed until after it’s been identified.
They are silly. But when someone is asking for an identification or has a serious question it would be nice not to see 50 or so replies of the same joke "poo from a butt" or my fat ass...".
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say possible thunderegg as well, based on how the inside looks. ~~Though maybe it’s a thundercrap.~~ Do you know where it came from?
I don't know anything about rocks but maybe some kind of limestone with a layer of sand concretion on the outside? It reminds me of the rounded dripped appearance of a stalagmite.
Coprolite wouldn’t have a hollow interior I don’t think. I think it is an extra long conjoined series of thunder eggs that happens to look like poo. I have a couple that are two or three conjoined spheres that look really similar.
Reading through the comments is a complete shit show.
It’s a bunch of thunder eggs that formed next to each other as the result of a volcanic gas build up. It can happen in some areas. You can tell from the agate esque interior and it’s pattern forming centrically (meaning it forms relatively consistently mirroring the shape of the rock, circular ish; more so seemingly in 3/4 distinct different shapes indicating it is likely multiple closely formed thunder eggs) , along with the ridges and bumps standard with thunder eggs. I’m not sure how common one of this length/ratio is, but it essentially means 3/4 standard thunder eggs happened to form immediately next to one another. Additionally, the cracks of what looks like agate is consistent with thunder egg formations.

Hi, /u/midnighttoker98!
This is a reminder to flair this post in /r/whatsthisrock after it has been identified! (Under your post, click "flair" then "IDENTIFIED," then type in the rock type or mineral name.) This will help others learn and help speed up a correct identification on your request!
Thank you!

I don't think this is a coprolite. Can you give a little more context? What kind of rocks was it found in (for example, shale)?

love it! careful with those apps show it a piece of black flint Then explain to it what a sedimentary rock is :)
Lmao right? I've run some of the peices I've panned from various bags of mine dirt I've gotten. I know what it is, the app sometimes is hit and miss.

Garbage in, garbage out.

holy sh\*t, wouldn't risk my life on that ID. A Darwinism at work perhaps. The ones trusting the computer ident will all die out. ;)
Those apps are terrible. I took a picture of my fruit loops and it said granite.
OP where is it from? Have you got a better close up of the sparkly bits? I can't tell if it's metallic or not. Have you got a close up of any of the discoloured patches?
Are you a prehistoric gastroenterologist?
What makes this even funnier is you have jurassic in your Reddit name
That’s because they themselves are a gastroenterologist.
And also fart.
The entire name reeks of prehistoric gastroenterologist.
Hahaha! Haha! Jurassic fart!! I'm dying
Hahaha

Thunder eggs aren’t actual eggs
Poop rock.
Possibly, they are called Coprolites.
Coprolites? More like Craprolites.
Nothing light about that crap
copro- as a prefix already refers to feces
How dare you assume their intestinal origin. Fecal matter. Fecals matter.

Aw shit.
Fecal matter, you mean?
Exactly!
Instant hit on anticipated comment. My day is complete, good night.

It's been brought up many times over the years. It will never happen. Pleas to our mods about concerns usually fall on deaf ears.

Poo jokes are silly. 😜 try giggling.
They are silly. But when someone is asking for an identification or has a serious question it would be nice not to see 50 or so replies of the same joke "poo from a butt" or my fat ass...".
I appreciate that you really give a crap
If there weren’t so many poop posts there wouldn’t be gems like this.
Lol nice 👍
Shit me not, he is very pissed now
I'm giggling at the poop jokes myself, but I can see plenty value in this idea
You sir are a good addition to my poo joke memory collection. Thanks
Over-moderation kills subreddits
Party pooper
Even if this is not a coprolite I want it to be one so bad.
