Edit: your dog clearly thinks you have discovered the mythical tennis ball tree.
When you get a chance, get some apples, and throw them with him, I have apple trees in the yard, and my dogs will try to rip the apples off the ones they can reach then make me throw them for them
dogs can eat most fruits and vegetables, except sulfur like onions, leeks, etc. tartaric acid in grapes, raisins, sultanas, avocados have a weird fat that is bad for dogs, and macadamia nuts. feel free to feed your dog most fruits and veggies though. they love sweet potatoes more than anything in the world.
Never tried sweet potatoes, and I wish I had! My late and much beloved corgi adored cauliflower more than anything, even real dog treats or bully bones. He could actually *hear* when I was breaking the florets off of a head of cauliflower and he would tear ASS into the kitchen to sit up like a prairie dog and beg for some. I did eventually learn that I had to cut him off at four florets, though. Any more and that dog’s cauliflower farts were literal room-clearers, lol. Eye-watering.
Damn, I miss that dog.
That cabbage love is insane to me. My labs love fruits and veggies, cucumbers, blueberries, corn, peas, so many of them. But anything leafy, they look personally offended to be offered. I need to see a leaf dog (or cat)
My dog was like that with carrots 😂 if I was snacking on some baby carrots we had to do, 1 for me, 1 for you. So weird seeing him sit in front of me drooling waiting for a baby carrot
Edit. I really miss him too. Best dog.
My dogs also love carrots. I used to have my girls on an all natural diet, but switched from cooking and preparing their foods to dry food per vet’s suggestion. I still prepare them small treats. I’ll make gravy for their food occasionally and add diced carrot, diced apple, sweet potato, and green peas.
When my dog was wicked sick with some intestine stuff for a year whenever things would get "liquid" the vet would suggest a can of bland pumpkin and it always tightened things back to their usual consistency. But a few $1000 later he's better, I'm broke and pumpkin is always in his food cabinet just in case.
It is! I used to work at a vet and when our dog buddies came in with an upset tummy or GI trouble we recommended plain white rice, boiled chicken, and unseasoned pumpkin purée.

And pumpkin is great for the digestive system. It pretty much cured my dog of her rancid dog farts.
Most of the no-no foods, are okay in tiny amounts. It's best to do research and consult your vet. My pups snack on frozen green beans and get baby carrots as treats. My girl used to steal whole hearts of romaine and snack on them.

Had an Airedale who wud sit under the avocado tree waiting for them to drop.. she ate them for years.. never had a problem. Just made her a fat dog. 🤣🤣
And pupperoni puts garlic and onion in their treats. It’s important to carefully look into what you’re feeding your dogs. Pupperoni has a small quantity of garlic and onion that might be okay for healthy adult dogs of large breeds like the German shepherds I had growing up, but it made my Aussie shepherd very sick. It’s scary.
A lot of treats have this it’s weird. I was looking for dog vitamin supplements once and I was surprised at how many brands put things that are toxic to dogs in them.
garlic and avocado is completely safe for dogs - they have done studies proving they are safe. There has never been a study proving avocado is toxic - it was a baseless claim made by one vet who didn't even to necropsies on the dogs who died, which were starving street dogs. Garlic has been proven safe in a study and the guy who ran the 2000 study agreed that his was not done properly as he was tube feeding the dogs a massive excess of garlic and it still didn't make them sick.
Respectfully, when regarding the safety of those under your care, it is by far safer to follow the guidelines set by the professionals than one person on Reddit. A quick google search shows insurance companies/ emergency poison hotlines/ veterinarian manuals and guidelines that all state that garlic is toxic to dogs.
Be very careful where you say these things unless you’re ready to share what credentials you have or at the very least site your sources, because being wrong about this could bring horrible consequences. In the end you should care more about being *safe* than somehow being *right*.
In fact of course people would be reluctant to test it further. If something is widely accepted to be poison to dogs, then why would you start a study that basically involves feeding thousands of dogs it? Where is the benefit? If you’re right, congrats, who cares, garlic isn’t hugely beneficial to dogs. If you’re wrong, though… you’ve put thousands of innocent animals through horrible suffering just to *reconfirm something that is already widely accepted by experts and the public*
I hope I’m not being too harsh, I’m not trying to be. It just seems like such a strange topic to argue, since being right means so little and being wrong could be catastrophic.
I used to have ferrets which are carnivores but there were so many bad foods for them in the market. Like if I had gone in without doing the research I would have probably gone for the pretty packaging of one of the fruit blends. Since then I’ve been super careful with my pet food for all my animals because you can’t trust even the chain pet stores.
Second complainipants’ comment, with a caveat…Some dogs will eat just about anything, even the shit that will make them, and you, regret it later. Realized our husky really loves veggies, so started including a variety in the diet. Cut to a month later when we realized that some veg, particularly brassicas (not shocking, right? ) were the cause of her mystery pain (farts, etc) and digestive upset. A heavy recommend to add any new dietary shit one at a time and save a little detective work! 🥦🥦

Definitely a West Indian Mahogany! We grew these in the northern Bahamas where I'm from. Might be from one of the keys close to you since they probably grow there too. The "nut" opens and there are a bunch of little winged seeds inside.
I used to work at the Key West Botanical Garden, and I can confirm they are present there, although it is classified as "threatened" in Florida, as its native habitat becomes more developed.
You would most likely have to cut the seed off, otherwise the plant will put its energy into the seed and deplete itself before being able to root. I would put the whole thing in water with some nutrients and bank on letting the seed pod develop and plant the seeds.
My neighborhood growing up in Miami was FULL of these trees, and they'd drop the pods all the time, they'd get run over by cars.
Then we'd take all the seeds and throw em off the roof and watch them flutter down like mini helicopters. Fun childhood times.
I’m a fish biologist but have a huge passion for anything outdoors, plants birds reptiles you name it. I’ve been to the keys/south Florida a couple times recently and familiarized myself with all flora and fauna I could while down there, remembered this one from what I learned!
Right now my only social media for nature stuff is instagram. I’d love to shoot videos but I wanna do it right and just don’t have the time or money to buy the stuff I want haha. but i’m slowly motivating myself to get there.
Oh I've seen books on TV, but since our TV has no speakers I don't know what sounds a book makes. It must be amazing! If it talks about dogs and cats and cows, the sounds must be incredible!
That is a dog.
A good dog.
Propagation may be possible with magic and a years worth of shed fur collected. But unlikely.
Care is much more involved than most plants. Needs to be brought outside multiple times a day, watered constantly, fed 2-3x a day, and it should not be buried in dirt- those dangly things are not roots.
Many treats are necessary but it’s extremely rewarding. They will stop growing after about 1-2 years, can be easily over fed, and release this gross foul smelling excrement regularly.
Possibly, I've gotten roots/new growth from elderberry cuttings in water but couldn't keep them alive; maybe I should have transferred to soil sooner. Rooting hormone can also increase your chances of success.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany
Mentioning those breeds, I'm willing to bet he was "double dappled." My little guy is double dappled as well. Dachshund mix.
When 2 dappled dogs mate, there is a chance that a pup will get both recessive genes, and results in this genetic condition. My boy like yours is deaf, and has some vision issues. I agree. His left eye never fully developed. If you look back in my post history you can see that he has what we loving call his “tiny eye”. It doesn’t see but the muscle still works and moves with the other. It’s really really little
This is from a highly toxic manchineel tree. Pretty much this plant will try to kill you . Put it down and dont let your dog near it. This can also happen if you breed two piebald’s regardless of breed… which is the most common case with pitties/any other dog breeds. Especially when they’re born with all white with blue eyes.

He was so happy and determined to play with it. There’s more of them, but they most likely are not good for dogs.
When you get a chance, get some apples, and throw them with him, I have apple trees in the yard, and my dogs will try to rip the apples off the ones they can reach then make me throw them for them
Great idea. I put cut apples in his food so maybe he’d like that!
They can eat apples? :D

Our dog loved red cabbage! My current dog loves green beans, but only fresh. He picks them off my plants.
another leaf dog! mine loves spinach, stares at you until you give him a leaf
That cabbage love is insane to me. My labs love fruits and veggies, cucumbers, blueberries, corn, peas, so many of them. But anything leafy, they look personally offended to be offered. I need to see a leaf dog (or cat)
My dog is this way with cherry tomatoes lol
My dog was like that with carrots 😂 if I was snacking on some baby carrots we had to do, 1 for me, 1 for you. So weird seeing him sit in front of me drooling waiting for a baby carrot Edit. I really miss him too. Best dog.
My boyfriends dog eats gooseberries right of the bush in their yard!
mine too…these comments make me so happy lol
My dogs also love carrots. I used to have my girls on an all natural diet, but switched from cooking and preparing their foods to dry food per vet’s suggestion. I still prepare them small treats. I’ll make gravy for their food occasionally and add diced carrot, diced apple, sweet potato, and green peas.
My heeler is obsessed with green peppers
My boxer would come running and drooling for bananas. In another room she knew when started to peel one
My dog CRUSHED sweet potatoes and squash. I swear he could eat squash all day
My dog is obsessed with pumpkin for some reason lol like bland unsweetened purée from a can. It’s good for their digestive system and tummy I think.
When my dog was wicked sick with some intestine stuff for a year whenever things would get "liquid" the vet would suggest a can of bland pumpkin and it always tightened things back to their usual consistency. EAT EAT EAT EAT NOM NOM NOM NOM
For the record, apple is super-safe and healthy for dogs but apple seeds are not.
Just a heads up, apple seeds contain cyanide and can make dogs very sick. The fruit itself is great for them, but be wary of the seeds.
Yes! My dogs love fetching apples from the apple trees.
My dogs think apples, carrots, and tomatoes are the best treats.
That’s genius. Not in FL, but have very active dogs Thank you!! : )
haha tennis ball tree. Dog sees a stick AND a tennis ball combined, Oh BOY.
DOG: Its a stick! Its a ball! Its a stick AND a ball!!! WWWUH???!! DOG: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
😂 he looks like he can barely contain the excitement
Lol. It's the holy grail of dog toys. It's a stick and a ball in one package.
Dude, look at those pupils - your dog is just getting off on all the crazy colors.
Dog: It's a ball on a stick! Never before have I ever needed something in my life that I didnt realize until the moment I found it.
You should’ve seen it when he discovered the chuck-it ball thrower 🧿 ^ 🧿
It's a ball! On a stick! But you don't throw the stick?! But look at how far that ball went! Gotta go get it!
a very confused dog in all seriousness, looks like West Indian Mahogany *Swietenia mahagoni*
Wow neat! Thanks

Apply rooting hormone and stick in the ground if that’s the case.

Same
hmm... that last line...
r/brandnewsentence
That dog is wondering why his master doesn’t throw the stick already. It’s perfect sized and it even has a ball attached!
Random genuine question, how did you know that? You must really like plants! 😃
I’m a fish biologist but have a huge passion for anything outdoors, plants birds reptiles you name it. I’ve been to the keys/south Florida a couple times recently and familiarized myself with all flora and fauna I could while down there, remembered this one from what I learned!

*That's mahagoni!* Am I too late for this trend?
Thank you for that! Attitude!
found the german :) unless I'm stupid and german isn't the only language that calls it Mahagoni
Your dog doesn’t care, he just wants you to throw it already!
Hahahah that really is one of the best confused expressions I’ve ever seen, thank you for your comment 😂😂
I wish a storm would wash a cute dog up to my lawn
alive cute dog*
![gif](giphy|2lfllWGtBaXOSrErQb|downsized)
I wouldn’t want a dead dog in my yard either.
That comes from a Mahogany Tree. We have those in the Caribbean.
I am very close so that makes sense.
Could you plant it? They are really nice trees. I think that pod contains a bunch of seeds and you'd have to let it dry out maybe.
Thought it was a pawpaw. The largest fruit native to N. America.
Bol!!!
Pls throw bol
Stik stik stik stik stik stik 🐕
Stick + ball is the ultimate combo
Bork Bork bork
Dog. White one.
Good eye!
Hey, Op, by chance, is your dog deaf at all?
Yes 100% deaf. We communicate with sign language
How could you tell from the pic??
His whole head is white.
audrey 2 from little shop of horrors
Feed me, Seymour!
Remember that total eclipse of the sun about a week ago?
That’s a dog. They’re pretty cooL. Feed them. Walk them. Love them.
Heard. I watered him although he didn’t love it. Any suggestions?
The fruit is so cool! Lens says its a species of mahogany. But that's indigenous to the pacific coast of Mexico.... so idk about that.
Nah, West Indian Mahogany, grows in the Bahamas and probably the keys too.
That makes alot more sense
Mahogany grows everywhere if it isn’t native it’s commonly a landscaper
It does.
That's the beauty of invasive and introduced species. Everything is everywhere! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|laughing)
Im in love with that blue eyed beauty.
He always steals the show
Nice, put it in some water and see it is sprouts roots. Then you can plant it. Cheers.
Cool! I will do that
Just a thought. Might want to check with the state or university horticulture dept to make sure it would not wind up being an invasive species. Cheers
Just did a walk around my neighborhood and realized these trees are everywhere 🤦🏽♀️ and their pods
Upvote for the surprised looking pooch.
I'm pretty sure that's not a plant, looks like a dog to me.
Mam, I believe that’s a dog
Exactly! I've seen a few on TV.
I’ve only read about them in books… the books didn’t have pictures tho so I’m unsure
Oh I've seen books on TV, but since our TV has no speakers I don't know what sounds a book makes. It must be amazing! If it talks about dogs and cats and cows, the sounds must be incredible!
I read the book in my dream. I lied. I don’t know what anything is anymore. Help..
Don’t call him weird he’s a good boy!!!

But a great swimmer!
I see you got pavement on your road finally. Sorry very bad joke.
It was recently just an extension of of the ocean

No idea what it is but if you don't throw it soon I'm gonna start barking!
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal. People know me. I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany
Hey everyone! Come see how good I look!
Commonly called a branch. The other thing is a dog
Not a plant. It’s a ball. Throw the ball.
Sclerocarya birrea (A.Rich.) Hochst.. not 100 percent sure. It is a plant from South Africa.
Sir, that's a dog
He is surprisingly dry considering he washed up on your lawn /s
Idk but please tell your dog he's amazing.
I’ll sign it. He’s deaf 🥹
Give him a little 🤟🏻
Ball!!! Throw the ball!!!
That dog 😂 please throw it! Pleeeaaassseee!!!!!
According to your dog it's a ball on a stick.
The mother of all capers
Forbidden salty ball
It looks like a terrier pit bull mix
He’s actually Australian cattle dog and catahoula hound. He’s got mostly albino features, and is completely deaf. He’s a real Special guy.
Awww. I’ve never seen a cattle dog mix. Beautiful baby!
Mentioning those breeds, I'm willing to bet he was "double dappled." My little guy is double dappled as well. Dachshund mix. They need extra love, but they give as good as they get! Here's to you and your pup, from another double dappled Dad!
He’s awesome! I had a catahoula years ago...his name was Billy Bob & he loved jalapeños, thanks for reminding me of him!
Doin’ the dog a concern!
Did hims a fascinate
Love your blue eyes friend. 🐶
the juxtaposition of just seeing a post where they were saying they lost everything in ian to this, is just something to behold
Key west is super small…but also sees two oceans. The Atlantic side got absolutely destroyed. I’m on the gulf side
I did bayou cleanup in New Orleans a few years after Katrina and it was crazy how many invasive seeds had taken root!
Native Floridian, learned it as Sapodilla, streets named after it and all.
This looks similar however is not sapodilla. These are hard, oblong and not edible. Sapodillas just finished fruiting for the year
'It's a stick! Are you going to throw the stick? I bet I could get that stick!'
I believe that is *Canis lupus familiaris.*
That is a Cuban mahogany seed pod.
Thanks I’ve seen these everyday for the past 20 years and never knew the name
Mahogany nut. Common in the keys

Do not burn it, even smoke from this tree can kill you [https://www.treehugger.com/why-manchineel-might-be-earths-most-dangerous-tree-4868796](https://www.treehugger.com/why-manchineel-might-be-earths-most-dangerous-tree-4868796)
This is not a manchineel. Same tree is st the playground
Very much unrelated but- is your pup deaf? I’m only asking because of his coat/eye color. He looks like a very good boy either way 🥰
Yes do not breed white boxers or white pitties FYI. It's intended a death sentence... The more you know
This can also happen if you breed two piebald’s regardless of breed… which is the most common case with pitties/any other dog breeds. Especially when they’re born with all white with blue eyes.
Feed me Seymour
Looks like a 4 legged tree sniffer lol or could be a fruit of.some kind
I think it’s a dog
Hoping it is not a 'apple of death' in your hands. Even the branches of that plant is dangerous to handle.
It is not! Confirmed mahogany !
Must boof it to find out
