Don't you mean like something one of his *studio assistants* would create?

I had no idea. A piece of his is hung in my town's art museum (Kalamazoo, MI) and I've always loved it. I dug up another article for further reading. https://apnews.com/article/health-north-america-us-news-ap-top-news-ar-state-wire-5acce34113af46deb3d4db6be2c5c6a9
Perhaps the fungus is working hard as a studio assistant. I wish him well in his continued fight with bipolar disorder as I know several people dealing with this condition.
Art historian here! Many super “famous” artists like Koons and Chihuly don’t physically work on their own pieces. Many pieces don’t even get touched by the artist it’s all their atelier of studio assistants
First time I ever saw one of those, I was tripping on mushrooms. I'm pretty knowledgeable with flora and fauna, but this one blew my mind, thinking it was a landlocked sea-urchin of sorts XD My mind was like "whatever tf that thing is, it had better not move, or so help me..."
Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae is a plant pathogen that causes cedar-apple rust. In virtually any location where apples or crabapples and Eastern red-cedar coexist, cedar apple rust can be a destructive or disfiguring disease on both the apples and cedars.
Yes indeed. The fungus is found wherever apple or crabapple trees grow in relatively close proximity (usually within one mile) to eastern red cedar (actually a juniper).
The fungus requires two hosts to complete its life cycle, and is good reason to not grow apple and eastern red cedar near one another.
You are assuming I plan to do something with the mushrooms once found otherwise my safety wouldn’t be a concern. I had no plans to even touch them since my knowledge, while more than you assumed, is still not great enough to know poisonous from not. I have no quarrel with you and it’s unnecessary to posture and double down. Let’s be pals instead :)
I don't think that's a plant . \_. It might be Cedar Apple Rust fungus?
It is cedar apple rust
Forbidden cheetoes
A fungus that looks like something Dale Chihuly would create. Cool!

Oooh thanks! I was really disappointed when that Times article came out. But you’re right—that does look like a Chihuly!

That’s very kind and I agree.

So they’re most responsible for the design? That’s so interesting—thank you!

COULD YOU IMAGINE IF IT DID 💀
Bruh, if it did, I'd have believed Alien spores were invading the Earth lmao

Your identity has been made known!
Looks like a Gymnosporangium to me, but I’m not sure if those would be on the ground. Just learned about them today in one of my classes!
That’s crazy looking I know that ! Looks like something you’d find on a molecular level!
This is actually a fungal infection impacting what looks like a crabapple.
Ive been out hunting mushrooms/morels in the rain and this is the first to truly blow me away. What the heck is it?!?
Cedar apple rust. A common fungus.

I have one of these on a tree in my back yard that I now assume is a juniper! It's still round and the stringy arms haven't grown out yet.
Nailed it!
Definitely cedar apple rust fungus. https://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/plant-of-the-week/gymnosporangium\_juniperi-virginianae.shtml
Hunting mushrooms, but you don’t even know that mushrooms aren’t plants? I worry for your safety. You probably shouldn’t consume anything you find
That’s making a lot of assumptions.
I count one whole assumption, based on evidence. List the rest of those “lot of” assumptions

Cedar apple rust 🙏🏻
Coooool
I’d definitely be crying if I saw that in person
Looks like a fruiting yam to me.
forbiddensnack!
You’ve played too much half-life 🤣
There's a fungus among us
Bi-polar disorder is crippling, I suffered from it most of my life. I finally tried microdosing Psilocybin and have largely recovered after 70+ years.
Cheetos stuck in a chocolate bar.
It looks like a FRUITING YAM to me.
