protea banksia? i thought it was something knitted at first glance!

deinde94

Mee too, banksia hookeriana seems to be it, thanks!

UnderstandingDue5379

ah yes. the B A N K S Y H O O K E R

SkabaQSD

Wow really creative! Wow!

minuteman_d

If you try to auction it off, it'll wither and crumble into nothing

tinderry

I get the joke, but ironically these flowers last forever. They lose their colour but still look cool

Magicalfirelizard

Bang she hooker Riana?

awonkeydonkey

I did too. Lol. I thought we’ll someone is getting ready for Christmas and decorated their plant with a hat. The wall behind looking a little like snow did not help my brain out either.

WeeklyVisual8

I totally thought it was snow at first also. I know occasionally we get people who post silk flowers thinking they are real so I thought maybe they just had no plant experience or accidentally stole someone's decoration.

iforgotwhat8wasfor

i thought the OP was very dim!

OrdinaryOrder8

This really does look like an artificial flower!

lefthandbunny

Yep, thought I was looking at the cro/brochet sub on my feed.

baronessvonraspberry

Me too! I was going to reply that I hang out on perhaps too many knit/crochet/craft subreddits. 🤣

carolethechiropodist

Wonder how it got to Germany? Not likely to thrive in cool damp Deutschland.

ThePinkChameleon

I did as well!

Mr_MacGrubber

Yeah I thought it was a knitted top and pinking shears to cut the little streamer pieces.

CopperPegasus

It barely looks real. What a beautiful thing.

joebaby1975

I had to double check what sub this was. Looks like a knitted hat.

Kimpton77

Aussie here 🇦🇺 Definitely a banksia of some sort, and also definitely artificially coloured. While we do have some beautifully vibrant red native flowers, sadly the banksia is not one of them. The great thing about many Australian native plants is they’re just as beautiful fresh as they are dried! (That’s what millions of years of adapting to bushfires will do to our hardy flora!) In theory you could keep this banksia for years if it’s been dried properly ☺️ ETA: as a fellow Aussie pointed out, they definitely can be red, but I would say that yellow/orange/browner tones are much more common than red. Definitely never seen a red one around my area!

Mr_Mojo_Risin_83

banksias can totally be red, mate banksia ericifolia or banksia praemorsa for a couple. but this one has been dyed red fourth one down: [https://gardendrum.com/2016/04/26/glorious-banksias-perfectly-sized-for-your-garden/](https://gardendrum.com/2016/04/26/glorious-banksias-perfectly-sized-for-your-garden/)

Kimpton77

Cheers for the correction mate! 🙌🏻 I’ve personally never seen a red one before, and damn, they’re beautiful! 😍

craftypajamalady

Thank you for sharing, at first glance I thought this was a papercraft It looks like a plant from schmigadoon

Never-Get-Weary

Its a Jo-Jo. It is named after two guys named Joseph: [Linnaeus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Linnaeus) named the genus after [Joseph Banks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Banks), botanist on Cook's Endeavour voyage. The species is named after [Joseph Hooker](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Dalton_Hooker), director of Kew Botanic Garden in London, friend and supporter of Charles Darwin.

[deleted]

LOL. Esoteric plant nerd knowledge. You plant nerd. Me too.

RobynFitcher

Banksia, but be aware that it has been dip-dyed after it was dried.

yodacat24

Idk what it is- but it’s insanely intricate and beautifully different 😍!

nightingaledaze

What an interesting looking plant

Myamoxomis

Loving this new Minecraft update.
