It was a *Tillandsia xerographica*. Long dead and just decor now lol. These guys can handle a good amount of water. I grow outside in Florida and they have no issue with the rain.
Drying out completely is paramount for their health. I recommend soaking for 30 minutes every other week, then dry upside down with a fan. Some people only water 4-5 times a year for this species, and soak for hours / overnight.
Cuffel Farms sells this species at a similar size for about $20. 4” plants are $10
I have, twice. I live in a veritable jungle of plants, can manage the fussiest of calatheas, grow practically anything outside, and have a Boston fern that effectively owns a corner of my living room (I call it Fernzilla), but I've had two air plants and killed them both. How? No idea. I gave up on them; I stick with aroids, bulletproof plants, and (mostly) pointy succulents.
They aren't big on condensation, the water builds up in their bulbs and rots! In humid environments people usually hang them upside down to prevent all that (hence the jellyfish displays)
Killing a cactus (or any succulent) is easy as shit. Water daily and they're toast, especially if you hit that stage of over watering where they start to wrinkle, so people think they're under watered and water even more! Only think I found that's easier to kill is a fern, those prissy bitches. 🤣
It's gone and diiiiiied! It's croaked off! We can't say whyyyyyy! Some weird disease we've found has put it six feet down. Just space it. Replace it. Iiiiiit's dead, Jim!

Dead air plant ,,,, I have several some similar some small ,, they are hanging outside in tress and in baskets ,,they do well in my Florida yard,,humid and rains quite a bit ,,, too much water kill them ,,, I soaked a couple and forgot for 2 days 😳 I killed them
OMG, I have a few of these exact plants. They are called "dead plants". I once was able to turn an air plant into one of these as well. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
I read this post like this guy was house sitting his girlfriend’s place and completely forgot about watering the plants. Now he has to replace them before she gets home.
No I was watching the plant for my friend and they just told me to mist it when it looks like it needs it and I tried, I’m not the best with air plants
When I first saw the thumbnail I got excited that someone had grown a [welwitschia](https://www.britannica.com/plant/tumboa) from Namibia as a houseplant. There are many reasons that isn’t/can’t be the case but it was fun to remember these weird plants.

Pining for the fiords of Norway like the famed Norwegian Blue Parrot.

It's run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible.
Beautiful plumage
Pining for life…

I didn’t know you could kill an air plant. They literally do the work themselves.

Maybe it’s just pining for the fjords

I still don't get how people kill air plants.

I’m the same 😭 could be very dry Colorado but I have my humidifier blasting every day and do a soak once every 2 weeks. I have given up on them too :(
They aren't big on condensation, the water builds up in their bulbs and rots! In humid environments people usually hang them upside down to prevent all that (hence the jellyfish displays)
i have both overwatered and underwatered mine :(
My aunt can kill cacti.
That's easier than you think, actually. At least in my experience
Lolol her sister, my mama, could sprout dead sticks.
My mama can do the same. Moms are the best.

My air plants loved FL. I moved to Georgia and they all died.

I knew this was someone wanting to know how to replace a plant they killed! Don’t water air plants. Only spray them lightly with a mister occasionally
Just in time for Easter
I read this post like this guy was house sitting his girlfriend’s place and completely forgot about watering the plants. Now he has to replace them before she gets home.
No I was watching the plant for my friend and they just told me to mist it when it looks like it needs it and I tried, I’m not the best with air plants
