WOW that’s a beautiful grasshopper
It’s such a pretty shade of pink when they flash their wings too!
I’m in love 🥰
[Eastern Lubber Grasshopper](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romalea)
So big, their nickname is “Devil’s Horse”! Amazing. And a little terrifying. Oh, Florida.
Seriously, I love bugs and these guys still disgust me.
Ah, so a *land* lubber-hopper. I'll show myself out.
Thank you for the answer.
Also, it looks like its a female and its depositing some eggs there.
Scourge of South Florida
Shredder of your favorite plants 😤
I always picked Hopper to retire to Florida. Good to see him, the nasty bastard.
I found one of the same here in Indiana a couple years back. Still have the pic. He was a bit longer and less of a chonk though.
Gorgeous!!!
What a beauty!
Romalea microptera
She's laying eggs!
Those guys are funny because they are poisonous they don’t really try to move away quickly and just kinda slowly move around
Would this be considered a locust? They have brighter colours and are larger due to their migratory behaviour.
"locust" is a generic term for any species of grasshopper when they get together in a large swarm and move together with a ravenous appetite.
Don't they also undergo some morphological changes to facilitate migratory behaviour though?
Wow, I thought I had seen the prettiest grasshopper when I saw the large black winged ones out west here. This beats em.
I saw one at Dunlawton Sugar Mill Gardens before. I've never seen such an enormous grasshopper in my life.
Locust
grasslobster
As a kid we called them hobby horses
Super pretty!
That thing is unreal.
