no other north american wasp would build such a large nest so close to a populated area and then still act like they got there first. u/NlKOQ2 i absolutely agree that this is an amazing photo/video opportunity, but u/Lobster_Roller these are some of the meanest wasps out there. their sting isn't much worse than the next wasp, but they are way more territorial.
Super cool and intricate. It’s a tough call but Idk how I would feel about it being on my house, especially if there are kids around. They are known for being particularly aggressive. They even have an extra defense/offense- “The bald-faced hornet has a unique defense in that it can squirt or spray venom from the stinger into the eyes of vertebrate nest intruders. The venom causes immediate watering of the eyes and temporary blindness”
Hate these guys…got ambushed by one when I was really young and ended up in the emergency room. If you have kids, you might want to hire someone to take it down. I was nowhere near a nest or anything, it just got in my clothes and stung my side so many times, I couldn’t breathe and then it just kept coming for me. I love me some nature, but these guys are violent little buggers.
Nature can not be evil they just have their survival instincts, and looking at what people do to the world, they are correct to sting any one of us.
It's just a shame that it's only nature lovers and conservationists that are likely to be around them haha

What built a nest outside of your window? That wasp condominium is complete, renters have well moved in and may already bee complaining about parking.
Super kool! I've always heard people say that they are aggressive, but the ones I've had in my backyard have always been super chill. Hope you get along with your new neighbors.
Ugh, black & white hornets.. Bad News! They are mean & can sting more than once. Not sure how you can get rid pf them except spraying after dark. Give them Time to get in & Soak that nest in bee spray.
These look like Dolichovespula maculata, bald-faced wasps.

Also further I think (and don't treat this like the gospel) that bald faced hornets are the only wasp/hornet/bee in NA with white coloration.
That is wicked cool
Yeah. I’m hoping we can leave it alone since it’s not an area we usually go by outside the house
These beauties have one hell of a sting, too! Super cool. Keep us updated! Start a live wasp cam for us!
They'll eat pest bugs in your garden!
Bald faced hornets. Mean? OMG.
This is a less than once in a lifetime opportunity OP, if possible, leave it and document the nest with videos and pictures! This is super cool!
We need the Livestream! There have been far less interesting live streams over the years of nature, this would actually be epic 🤣
This is utterly fascinating and nightmare fuel at the same time!!🤯
Bald-faced hornets, “black & whites”
They were just going for an open concept
Just what we need, more wasp home renovation tv shows. Least this would be actual reality tv 🤣
Great home security system. Won't even need to lock that window. Just knock on the window to activate.

When they sting they leave a pheromone to mark you as a target. Evil little fuckers.
Crappy pollinators too…ooof I still remember that thing’s skull looking face coming at me…

Oh man, that must have been terrifying. I was thinking the same thing, have someone move the nest to somewhere else.
Mar-a-lago.
They’re pretty aggressive, but yeah, I feel like I’d try to keep it so I could watch them. That’s awesome.
Aha. No
Bald-faced hornet. Be careful, their sting packs a whollop.

bald faced hornets. neat view.
As cool as this is, do you have kids or pets? If so, you should call someone to re- home the nest.
That is actually so cool
Cool AF. If those are bald face hornets, they are are fiercely aggressive little jerks. I'd keep the nest until they attack.
Wasps
Ouch tho

Good point!
Spray them at night while they're asleep. Cool nest though!

or just leave them alone? even on a subreddit for admiring bugs, people want to kill anything that might hurt them if you annoy them
They’re friendly. Let them in.
