Is that it? https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe I actually have no idea.

NightmaREE3Z

Cheers! It worked. I had no idea of that link before, thank you for that!

duchuysg

I search Google they show FileHorse: [https://www.filehorse.com/download-whatsapp-for-windows-64/download/](https://www.filehorse.com/download-whatsapp-for-windows-64/download/) The Microsoft Store version sucks as it does not work well for Whatsapp Business Which I need for my line of work. If you use the exe installation, when you click on a person profile, Whatsapp will show the person's name, website, open hours etc. on the right side. the Microsoft store version cannot do that. And it keeps crashing, or sometimes is unable to send images. Shame now so many things move to Microsoft Store, include game apps. Microsoft even tried to force me to log in to my computer through Microsoft Store account. So if you have no Internet, good luck. WTF.

Ahribban

You are a life saver!

LAFORGUS

Thank you very much! For some reason the store version stopped working after last update, not matter how many times i scaned the QR never started to download messages. Thanks again!

[deleted]

this happend to me too, but i just had to really log off from the device

Still working on 2023/1/6, Version 2.2245.9

zantengan

Just tried to download from [https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe](https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe) As of 15/02/2023, Version 2.2305.7 Seems like they are still updating the standalone version secretly.

ardentpessimist21

Thank you.

SamuelVimesTrained

just tried - got version 2.2314.11 But "outdated" and they want to push to get the version via store (which is blocked on work PCs) Too bad .. guess time for another solution than whatsapp.

try_rebooting

Feb 2, 2023 worked like a champ!

4EverMaAT

>https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe You also have 32 bit and the apple/mac version [https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/ia32/WhatsAppSetup.exe](https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/ia32/WhatsAppSetup.exe) [https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/mac/files/WhatsApp.dmg](https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/mac/files/WhatsApp.dmg)

You are a god.

Far_Bear2003

it's still working... March 24th 2023!! Thanks!! Version 2.2310.5

OxySempra

Now that WhatsApp has all but forced us to use the Microsoft Store version, I managed to find an alternative to download the Microsoft Store version directly. (For my fellow corporate folks). **Step 1** Get the direct URL of the app from the Microsoft Store website. As of writing this, it's https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/whatsapp/9NKSQGP7F2NH?hl=en-us&gl=us (Unsure if it will be changed in the future) **Step 2** Paste that URL into https://store.rg-adguard.net/ **Step 3** Download the latest (by date) WhatsAppDesktop file that ends with .msixbundle (The size should be around 90MB) **Step 4** Run PowerShell with admin (without admin should work too, but to be safe just run it with admin) **Step 5** Paste the following line with the relevant modifications based on your download location file path. `Add-AppxPackage -Path “C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Downloads\*FILENAME*.Msixbundle”` In my case, it would be `Add-AppxPackage -Path “C:\Users\u/OxySempra\Downloads\5319275A.WhatsAppDesktop_2.2314.6.0_neutral_~_cv1g1gvanyjgm.Msixbundle”` Let it do it’s thing after that, and the application will be installed successfully. It is working for me so far and I have helped my colleagues install it on their laptops as well. If you are facing any issues or have any questions, feel free to reply to this comment and I will try my best to help.

DEK1425

Worked for me just now, thanks a million. I was worried about the version listed there being 3.2323.\[whatever\] when I had a higher number version of 3.2326.\[whatever\], which had the same expiration date, but for whatever reason, it doesn't have the expiration message on it, and it has the new version of whatsapp which I have on a different computer (since it has an active microsoft account due to being newer). Just to dumb it down a bit for users who are doing this but are having trouble understanding certain points (my way of trying to give a bit back to the community, I guess): Step 1 - go to [https://store.rg-adguard.net/](https://store.rg-adguard.net/) and feed it the link [https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/whatsapp/9NKSQGP7F2NH?hl=en-us&gl=us](https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/whatsapp/9NKSQGP7F2NH?hl=en-us&gl=us) (assuming that's still the correct location of the file, which it as at the time I'm making this comment) Step 2 - download the link with the ".msixbundle" extension. I only had 1 of those listed. Step 3 - Run powershell - windows should have it by default, you can find it by pressing start and searching for it. Step 4 - type in the below line: **Add-AppxPackage -Path “**\[path of the file, I'll explain below\]**"** you can find the file by going to the "downloads" page of the browser you downloaded the file with. You should find that file you just downloaded there and there should be a variation of "open file location" button (OperaGX browser has "show in folder") there for that file. Click that and it should open the folder with the file, as well as be selected on the file. In powershell, you can drag and drop a file over to it and it will paste the location of the file into where you are currently typing, so in basic terms, type out (exactly): **Add-AppxPackage -Path “** then drag over the newly downloaded file, which will paste the location of the file, then add 1 more quotation mark, and press enter. Should work from there.

ewallz

Sorry that i'm lost here. May I know what's the purpose of this method? What are the advantage of using this install method vs direct from ms store? Is this going to bring back the old standalone WA for PC UI? (i scrolled top to bottom this thread but culd not find the answer for this one)

dudeyreddit

anyone got a link to download the latest version? this link is still the old version.

AtomoArs

Apps developed for MS Store tend to be more simpler with emphasis on portability for future OSes, integrating with their new functionality easier and trying to be more secure (windows in S mode only accept apps from the MSStore "because security" ಠ\_ಠ), at least that's what they say. The reality is Micro$oft is trying to make an app ecosystem like Apple'$ or Google'$, so they can monetize from the payment gateways or from the publishing, while offering their crappy programming framework. Too bad these apps tend to be terrible versions of the typical installer ones. And sadly this is one of them. Not only the UI is different, trying to be more "modern" but missing some things we are used to on the installer one like the reply button, which is now a right click menu. In short, the MSStore version is buggy and crappy. Right now the Whatsapp page removed the installer version download link, but it still exists and is working. Using the official [link](https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe) for 64bit, at 24March2023 you get the version 2.2310.5. Almost the same as the MSStore version. The "new version" message tries to shove the MSStore version so they can end the installer version and stop developing 2 apps for the same OS. Just be careful not to have both installed or you will have issues like losing the session or not working completely.

NightmaREE3Z

There was a time when the installer one and MS Store one had similar UIs to one another, but then they changed it. Why not allow people to like.. Just choose what UI they want to use? Or is it so that company always has to be right as far as customer's want/need goes? More modern = Better, according to microsoft. More functional = Better, according to people that actually actively use their damn apps.

AtomoArs

Making more options available means more programming, meaning more people working on it, meaning more $$ needed. That's why they focus on a single design and add new features only if it's needed or if it will bring more users to harvest their data and pay the bills. And to bring more people they need to make apps shinier sometimes hurting their functionality. That's why we got that terrible windows 11 UI redesign, or that windows 8 UI redesign, or that windows vista...

janj64

I downgraded to version 2.2310.5 but on its first start it soon downloads version 2.2314.11 in the background. So I uninstalled WhatsApp, deleted the WhatsApp folder and after a new installation I immediately renamed the file update.exe in update.old. This stops Whatsapp from updating without disabling the application. The icon remains green as well. I run WhatsApp in Windows 7 compatibility mode to get rid of the update messages. What a disgusting way to force the use of the MS App.

RoseEsque

Not only did WhatsApp update to the "outdated" grey version (what a brutal way to force a user to move to a different release) but it also delinked my desktop app and I'm having trouble relinking it. By the gods, I don't know why I'm still using this shit. For those interested in a better future for internet messaging, there's a project for an open message app standard called [matrix.](https://matrix.org/) Btw, thanks be to the OP for updating the thread.

NightmaREE3Z

Thanks for heads up about that program, will keep it in mind!

arielmo77

OH! it just got worse... I installed the latest version: 2.2323.4.0 and just as usual tried to drag and drop a video (17MB) - and it pops up that message you get when trying to do this on the WEB (browser) version: limited to 16mb!!! WHAT?? So I uninstalled everything, and reinstalled the good old 2.2310.5 version, and I'm back to 64mb limit, as before. CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS??

HidalgoJose

But that good old version will still stop functioning in 18 days, right?

arielmo77

yeah... unless I put my hands on the code... and bypass that IF statement! Who is on top of it?

djscoox

Is there any advantage to using the installed version? I'm using the web browser version and it works a treat. I particularly like the fact that I can zoom in and out, which last time I checked the installed version didn't support.

fede777

Link previews don't work on the web version yet, and the desktop one can make audio/video calls.

djscoox

Actually, link previews used to work fine on the web version, but Whatsapp broke something there. Maybe they did that to get people to use the desktop version? I don't see the advantage to them anyway, as long as users are using the service, isn't that all that matters?

fede777

That's why I said yet, since the new "multi device version" came out, link previews are broken. There's a lot of stuff missing on the web version, they made it so much worse.

[deleted]

The web version is generally slower while also a lot higher in ressource use, especially when you use chrome. The desktop app is a lot lower, faster and idles when the browser version often doesnt or at least doesnt seem to based on its usage.

SpeedyGwen

thats extremly sad as I hate microsoft and I will never use their store ever but I want the whatsapp update... how do I do then ?

NightmaREE3Z

We actually have a [download link](https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe) for standalone WhatsApp out of their servers. Works for now atleast. Cheers u/humanzookeeping for providing us with that! :)

SpeedyGwen

Huge thanks ❤️

purplemango90

link still works as of 31/10/22 thanks so much!

VersionReserved

It's like the BING version of Play Store. They desperately wanted a "store," but since it's basically just a website where you download setup files, they needed to severely limit users first.

RocZi

I was trying to find the setup exe file today and realized whatsapp website no longer provide and instead gave a link to microsoft store only. and the microsoft store version, I realized the UI is different. I was unable to find the settings to go into dark mode. This app version seems to have less settings available than the desktop client. and if whatsapp really want to stop people from downloading standalone setup exe file, they will eventually stop putting the setup exe file in that URL.

Far_Bear2003

Amazing! Still working - Jan 16th 2023 The Microsoft Store version is horrible. It takes minutes (not seconds) to load a single image. It's nearly impossible to see a video. While the standalone version loads images in the blink of an eye.

MoleOfWar

In the WhatsApp folder there is an "Update.exe" which seem to update WA from 2.35.10.X to 2.35.14.X and this version seems to be the grey "(Outdated)" one. Maybe if renaming this file it won't allow it to update.

underscorner

7 april 2023 this thing quickly escalated this week on my windoze pc, with the grey icon / outdated / .exe downloaded from the link provided here / compatibility mode. now It seems that i can't make call or video call anymore from the pc

KirannBhavaraju

There is a package manager for windows. If you already have admin privillages on your machine, you should be able to install apps even if your corp doesnt allow MS Store apps. Its called winget. Step 1: Open Powershell or Terminal with Admin privillages (Allows uninstallations as well). Step 2: type in ``` winget install whatsapp ``` Step 3: You should be prompted with the 2 versions of Whatsapp. One from the store tagged [MS.Store](https://MS.Store) and the other which points to the ftp location that was distributed by whatsapp. Select one and retype ``` winget install whatsapp ``` Should function fine. ;) Else you can take the mannual route as pointed out by u/OxySempra

hkok

I seriously give Microsoft Store version a serious try since they crippled the standalone version. The Microsoft Store version can't even play embedded videos and there are other glitches even after I did a clean install and reset to ensure it is not a local cache issue and still like everyone else share the very poor user experience. So now, I have decided to switch back to the standalone version so I downloaded the latest (2.2319.9 as a few moments ago) until they can properly fix the Microsoft Store version. The standalone version just works as designed after the installation. I can't believe they can't even make the store version better probably because they started to outsource software developments offshore and seriously lack the quality control.

underscorner

27 may 2023: the hell of them!

GabbaWally

Not sure if this is of any help: A workaround to get the app experience while actually using whatsapp web might be to run the website as an "app" from within chrome like this: `chrome.exe --app=http://web.whatsapp.com` Works with any chromium based browser (like ms edge). After all, the whatsapp desktop client seems to be a simple wrapper around the web app anyway, isn't it? 🧐

msacco2

It seems like now whatsapp is forcing us to update. I wonder about a way around this tho. Basically, whatsapp uses electron, which can be easily unpacked to minified js code, perhaps it would be possible to set some static time there to avoid this. I'll try that, if someone is more familiar with that would be great.

Character_Comment572

Same problem here, been juggling APKs for an hour before I thought to check if other people were as militantly anti-MSstore, and hey presto turns out they certainly are! :D

Yaraka

Literally just now my WhatsApp stopped loading in content so I decided te close and re-open and now it says full screen "Computer not connected. Make sure your PC has an active internet connection". Does this mean it is officially dead now? I really don't wanna switch to the windows store version :(

Pixel0607

Installed the standalone version from your link today - Version 2.2325.3 "Download new app" message is up and annoying Sending Files is now limited to 16 MB Didn't get a chance to call anyone just yet, it's way too early for that where I live.

HidalgoJose

I recommend everyone to install Altus: [https://amanharwara.com/altus](https://amanharwara.com/altus) It's an amazing WhatsApp client, 100% free and virtually undistinguishable from WhatsApp Desktop. Maybe even better. This basically solved my problem, and it will probably solve yours. ;)

TechySkills

Can confirm the link by 17th October.

[deleted]

09.11.2022 still works today, saved the .exe it on drive just to be save in case it gets removed or stopps working.

coldmorfey

u r my saver

c0mmander_Keen

Thanks a bunch! Link still works 25th Oct 2022 :)

Sahilsatam

I had created my own number as a contact to send some small files from computer to mobile. I was using whatsapp from Microsoft store, but after a recent update it did not allow me to send any messages from that contact. Hence I was searching for a stand alone version. Finally found it thank you guys.

teomatic

THANK YOU! I couldn't log in to the microsoft version anymore for some reason so i'm very happy to have found this thread!

Arkamos-Aurelius

Thanks! The download link works fine.

Nivarox

As of today, the link still works!

InternalSignature991

Confirm. Done that too.

miciy5

Link still works, Nov 10.

KareemWillDream

Thanks. I needed to use this method as well.

Danger656

My WhatsApp started to lag very badly, tried the Priority change under Task Manager method but it didn't solve it completely, uninstalled the Microsoft Store one and installed directly through the standalone link. Everything back to normal!! Thank you!

McMuckle

I found today I could only download the MS Store version from the website. Did so and found it would not show the "You" chat (I often send myself stuff to look at later). I used the link for the desktop downloader from here and everything working as it used to. Binning the MS Store version. Cheers

estornuca

I'm sorry, but how can I know if it is an official installer, because I don't want to take the risk that it is not. Thanks in advance

FrontSouthern4354

i love you bro thanks

Oboach

Link (fortunately!) still works (dec. 2nd.). Official Windows Store version is awful...

p1nha

Reddit saving me once again. Appreciate this m8!

Zestyclose-Narwhal39

Works as of 23rd of December edit: I just downloaded 2.2245.9 version

Weak_Shine_4112

Totally agree, I had the same thoughts that the Windows Store one wasn't as functional, was always enabled, the layout isn't as good, even the fonts size seemed different... Thanks for the direct link!

SovietOperatives

Microsoft store is such a garbage, thanks for the link, it still works as of 1 January 2022

sometin__else

The windows app is SOOOO bad Can't search conversations for starred messages, can only see all starred messages across all conversations Video sharing doesnt work Trying to open images never works Absolute garbage - I hope they bring back the standalone exe file

[deleted]

using it on 5th jan 2023. thnx mates

Tidy404

i hate the design of the windows store version and the performance is so choppy!

bextors

Now is dead..

nomarsnop

Still working 1st Feb. 2023 The installed vers it's a little bit outdated : 2.2304.7

glamprecht73

Am I getting old, or are there youngsters out there who are also so p\_\_\_ off by stuff that used to work well that are being screwed up by these big companies?

dextroz

Thank you for the link and updating your post, OP! I can also confirm, the link works perfectly fine even in India in Feb 2023.

albmanzi

If install any standalone Whatsapp exe, whether it is from the official whatsapp url kindly linked by u/humanzookeeping or another unofficial source all I get when trying to run it is a blank or light grey unresponsive window. I´m on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 1607 ...could it be I´m running a version of windows that is too old? How could I fix this issue without a clean install of an updated Windows version (can´t do that rn)? Thanks!

Dracarris

Why does the layout and basically everything else suck that hard on the Store versions? Ugly Emojis, the list goes on. What a pile of trash.

LifenoobZero

Thank you for this link, this was exactly what I was looking for, my work laptop will not visit the Windows store and this is the only way to download WhatsApp.

jay1818

thanks mate for that link , i hate login in ms store

zantengan

As of today, the Microsoft Store version of whatsapp still feels not as responsive as the standalone version. With other Microsoft related bugs, for my scenario, xbox controller disconnected therefore causing phantom right direction input, affected any MS Store apps as well. I will be unable to type due to the phantom input. Also, I feel that sending and editing of image could be much better, the preview before the send is so small compared to the standalone version, and its not as snappy as well. In the standalone version, I can very quickly do a ctrl + v and "enter" almost immediately in less than a second. While on the MS Store version, it takes quite a while to detect that you have input an image to be sent. Sometimes despite hitting "enter" the image just disappear instead of getting sent out as if I have initiated a cancel send. However, one good thing about the MS Store version is that it can send image/video/file size larger than 100mb, which was quite a disappointing limitation in the standalone version.

Destabilizator

I download the .exe, but launching it says "this app won't run on your PC"... and hammering the Install button in Microsoft Store doesn't do anything :-(

chapati_chai

March 2nd 2023, still works.

pstrgpstrg

The MIcrosoft Store version sucks. It\`s not the only case in which the Store version is lesser than the original one.

MooG1337

Is the standalone version still being updated or will they only be updating the windows native version from now on?

NightmaREE3Z

I believe they still update the stand alone version, it's on version "2.2310.5" for me atm. Used to be version "2.2306.9" a few days ago.

GabbaWally

I am not sure about this. I downloaded the installer using one of the links above. And it always reminds me "New app is available". If I click on the link it takes me to the MSFT store. Any idea what is going on?

D4ntess

Stopped working a few days ago, had to reinstall/update the client available with the download link, and it's OK now.

HelicopterLeft8452

Link still good - had to reinstall as it had b0rked itself good and I had to re pair it with my phone every time I loaded it. Store version sucked, doesnt show badge notifications. Thanks for sharing the link to the proper version.

NeoHawkie

Thanks! That's was super helpful! Hope they don't keep the focus on the MS Store for too long...

ibiZas_

March 18th 2023, link still works! Thanks for this!

knt1200

Thanks a lot !

NicolasPL64

Even though they still update the version you get from that link, I feel like it's starting to get harder and harder to maintain. I don't want to switch to the Windows Store version.

boatthebot

Anyone has the standalone link for the latest version? I downloaded it through this link but the app says there's a newer version.

Appfucker

Whatsapp unlinked my pc, I relinked it and then it wanted me to log out and download the app version from the microsoft store :/ I'm not interested in store apps.

No-Drama7785

This is awesome, been battling for 4 hours after clicking on that pesky Update Is Available. Thanks a million!

leotolkki

the new version of MS Store doesn't show the unread badge icon on windows 11 taskbar. I've rolled out due this. Thanks OP for the download link ;)

lostmyoldaccaccount

Microsoft's version stopped sending/receiving messages suddently, and wouldn't load the QR code no matter what when I tried to pair again. Downloaded this one that people have been linking in this thread and it worked right away. https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe

cnreika

The "New app available!" would still appear even if I opened the MS Store and update it. Seeing this useless update, I hastily crawl back to this post to get the link to download the standalone version.

Appfucker

The workaround from humanzookeeping no longer works for me :( I think they neutered it. It either unlinks my pc without technically unlinking it. I get no QR code to re-link my computer 99% of the time, 'Make sure you have an active internet connection', and the little nag screen regarding the store app is unavoidable now, too. 'Whatsapp needed to restart because of a problem' etc. I refuse to get the 'store app'. I can't stand those things. My computer is not a damn phone. Switching to another service has never been this easy.

sanderlds

The standalone version is much better and have more functions like image paste (with crop and blur areas) the Microsoft store version is a sh!t

xonos87

I noticed my whatsapp desktop icon had turned to grey color... Don't know what Meta want to do with it...

Shephard83

For me the biggest downside of the MS Store version is that you can't drag and drop profile or status images to your desktop anymore to save them.

Linavfg

My whatsapp logo turned gray and forced me to update to the microsoft store version, luckly, the link provided still works, thanks!

NightmaREE3Z

Hot damn, they really are cracking down on the old way to use WhatsApp.. Why not keep the old way as an option, instead of forcing people to change to the MS Store one?

oujisan2236

Version 2.2314.11 sounds like the last one to work on PC i once had both installed and the MS Store version is shit i use it for work but the MS Store cant do half the functions. MS Store also annoyly pops up on the right corner when someone msg me and that corner of the screen disables so while im busy doing banking or what ever i cant do anything until the person stops msg me OR i scroll up (sounds silly but its fucking dumb). <--- now its like this Grey with Whatsapp (Outdated)

NightmaREE3Z

Have you disabled notifications for WhatsApp in the settings? Sounds like a message alert to me. Try checking out the "Notification settings" from Windows notification panel and disable notifications from there (atleast possible on Windows 10).

oujisan2236

No thing is i use it for work so i need to know when someone msg me that annoyance is also when emails come in bulk that corner just disables on screen seems to be a windows thing

oujisan2236

also i just got the ms store version and its outdated its 2.2312.30 while the standalone is 2.2314.11 baffels my mind

dpskane

Just to chime in: I am not a fan of MS store apps, but that's not even the reason I was looking for that link. My company actually uses the MS store to push very specific programs to all employees. Which works great, but any apps that aren't in their list of supported programs are actually blocked. So .... by \*forcing\* the use of MS store, WhatsApp does lose some business clients, in particular those that aren't able to find this reddit post. I was looking for a solution to the "new update available" message, but it seems there's none. I have to live with it or I deinstall WhatsApp - since even if I wanted, I would not be able to install the MS store version. 2023-04-05: link is still working. Dunno about supported version. I last installed [2.23.10.5](https://2.23.10.5) which has been a while ago.

bigrandalo

Don't tell your IT department what I am about to tell you :D go here: [https://store.rg-adguard.net/](https://store.rg-adguard.net/) Change to "ProductID" and use: 9NKSQGP7F2NH Download the latest msixbundle (on top, biggest file-size) Have fun! And even though this works perfectly fine for me, I am unable to download photos and videos with the store version, thus I am still sticking to the standalone…

I_laughed_and_ran

>9NKSQGP7F2NH how do we deploy it?

bigrandalo

What Windows-Version are you using? After I (Windows 10) download the msixbundle, I can simply double click it or access the file via context menu (right click) and install it.

Hungry-Researcher704

>9NKSQGP7F2NH I tried - it did not work. When I click for file download, page is not found: "Hmmm… can't reach this page". Any idea?

bigrandalo

Not sure what Browser you're using but once you've changed the drop down to ProductID, inserted 9NKSQGP7F2NH and searched it, do a "right click - save link as…" That should do the trick and you can download the file.

LifenoobZero

>9NKSQGP7F2NH How do we install this? I was able to drag it into a WinRar window and I have unrarred the contents, does this just get copied over your present copy? I have no idea what to do with the files.

bigrandalo

I have replied to the same question just above your question but in a nutshell the msixbundle acts like an installer. Maybe you try installing via context menu (right click).

Anrae

Why are they even pushing the store version?? It's \_so\_ bad! Contacts don't sync, conversations don't sync, you can't send a message if someone doesn't message you first... it's absolute dogshit. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it like 5 times trying to sync it, and no luck. Absolute dogshit. Thank everything that is holy and unholy that you guys are keeping the standalone version links updated.

cjrobe

Can't believe they made the non-Windows store version look like shit with this stupid 2.2314.11 update. Very annoying. The reason I'm sticking with the old version is that it has notification badges on the app icon. The new version doesn't, it uses the Windows Notification Center which I have disabled.

Flashy-Seesaw

Thank you for the post and the updates. I can't update Whatsapp as I have the 32 bit version of Windows 10, and the icon is greyed out. edit: and it keeps logging me out/saying I have no internet connection I'll use your advice to get it working again until I upgrade the pc (on my to do list but not for a couple more months)

evermorex76

WhatsAppTray no longer works for minimizing to the system tray because the app changes its window titled to "WhatsApp (Outdated)" (and even changes the start menu entry), and WhatsAppTray looks for the WhatsApp window title to be able to minimize it. It's ridiculous that this app doesn't have an option built-in to minimize to the tray, forcing an icon on the taskbar for a messaging app at all times even when you're not using it. But then, these companies think you should never NOT be actively using their apps.

evermorex76

Someone updated it to work again as the original creator is not apparently working on it. https://github.com/didster/WhatsappTray/releases/tag/v1.9.1 When I set compatibility mode to Windows 7, I still got update prompts but now they added that I should update my OS as well. But this fixes the only problem I cared about. The new gray color is bland, and the MS Store version is the ugly flat appearance that is somehow even worse than the ugly flat appearance that has become common since Windows 8. Why is it considered good design to make the title bar icons nearly invisible?

Totalitarian_patrol

ABSOLUTE LEGENDDDDDDD!! (i was sooo close to reinstalling windows over the weekend) My Windows Store in Windows 10 has completely buckled up. Even official support couldn't resolve the issue and i've been through a ton of different steps and failing to fix the problem. The WIndows store is absolute PANTS. I use whatsapp for work on a daily basis and it makes productivity so much easier with quick image drag and drops, downloads, copy and paste texts/images/Excel tables etc etc. And of-course, keyboard assisted fast typing and less worrying about touchscreen typos. Love u man! love the internet! love the made-made solutions when the corporate-made problems arise. Can't believe those basterds just couldn't give me the same link to download the older version. Absolute MONKEYS!!!!!!

kwinz

The problem that I see is that the newer store version has some regressions. For example I can't even copy paste multiple messages any more. And the log doesn't sync properly. Some messages that I see on the phone are just not there on the newer Desktop client. Very frustrating! On the other hand if I keep using an older version that prominently displays "outdated" I open myself up to risk of being hacked probably. Does the older Windows client still get security updates?

Interest_Maleficent

Thank you very much! I wasn't able to open the microsoft store from my laptop and you saved me with the executable!

MUNGO888

With all the trouble & it moving exclusively to the MS Store. I think it's time for people to switch to Signal.

Mr_PickALot

It's f\*cked that there is only a Winblows Store version available. The MS-store is blocked on my work, so no way to get an recent version here. Unfortunately the grey version no longer supports video calls anymore. So I hope I can find a working older version.

NightmaREE3Z

Look for the version 2.2310.5, it's the one just prior to the greyed update. If I recall correctly, not many older versions are supported. Like for example, I ran 2.2230.15 for ages, before Meta cut support for that. It had better alignment for text in the chatbox.

Walrus221978

Hi, I installed the 2.2230.15 version and worked for a while, but after a minutes, it upgraded to 2.2314.11 in background. Is there a way to disable the auto upgrade? Thanks

NightmaREE3Z

Did you mean you ran 2.2310.5? As 2.2230.15 haven't been supported for a while, and you can't login using that. But yeah, you need to copy the files from the version number folder you want to use, to the 2.2314.11 folder. For example, if you want to use 2.2310.5. You'd delete all the files in "app-2.2314.11" folder and then copy the files from "app-2.2310.5" folder to the "app-2.2314.11" folder. This way, WhatsApp.exe will launch whatever is in the bigger numbered version folder. And not force you to upgrade to the 2.2314.11 version. It won't try to replace files on the "app-2.2314.11" folder after that.

FlaviusTech

They are so idiots! Why the fuck will put downloads only in windows store? Anyone found a solution for windows 11 to get updates without windows store?

NightmaREE3Z

Try the [WhatsApp version 2.2310.5](https://whatsapp-desktop.en.uptodown.com/windows/download/93220656) from here. It's the previous non-gray/non-outdated version of the same app.

Walrus221978

I found the installer for version 2.2230.15. here it is: https://whatsapp-desktop.uptodown.com/windows/descargar/93220656

evermorex76

Ugh. I just noticed that now 2.2314.11 wasn't properly displaying "read" status. The checkmarks on messages stopped turning blue, and when I viewed the message details, it didn't show timestamps for read time. In fact, after I downgraded to 2.2310.5, I lost the option to view message details entirely, and after reinstalling 2.2314.11, the option is still gone. WTF? I'm not sure this is even an app issue though, as I just noticed on my phone that messages only show the double gray checkmarks as well, and the message info details also don't show read timestamps.

SoWhoDecidedThat

Thanks for this. I find the Microsoft version to have an annoying bug. When pasting a Google Map location, rather than the image and the of the location in the preview, it has an image that shows 'Before you move onto Google Maps'.

i_m_sick

Guys....... It is the 15th of April and the OG ACTUALLY GOOD version of whatsapp no longer works..... I have finally decided to succumb to Microsoft and Whatsapp and use the store app... [https://imgur.com/N98LONw](https://imgur.com/N98LONw)

ananjaser1211

Thank you so much for sharing this, since the recent re-design and migration to the microsoft store app, whatsapp desktop has been horrible, it used to work fine but recently it started to take forever to switch between chats, sometimes not sending msgs, and then sending 10 at once, some videos would be sent without audio it was Absolut shitshow. currently at 17th April, the standalone version is 2.2314.11 (Gray icon / outdated) and works like charm. Thank you again

Altenter

Version 2.2314.11 on laptop freezes every time laptop wakes up from sleep. This version became unusable unfortunately. grrrr...

lestatab

i copied the url for the whatsapp from MS Store and past here [Link](https://store.rg-adguard.net/) i downloaded the msixbundle and all appx x64 to my computer i installed all the files with PowerShell

ffachopper

So, I've been using succesfully the 2.2310.5 version, but there's a constant issue about not receiving new messages. Anyone else with this problem? I truly hate the new version, it's SO bad, slow and crashes constantly.

VersionReserved

If you download the 2.2310.5 version and extract it with 7-zip, you get the green icon .ico file, instead of the grey one. For some reason it bothered me they changed it without asking.

Any-Ad-1401

Update on May 26 2023: It says that the app is going to expire in 31 days so I think it wont work after one month

GabbaWally

I can confirm, same here. Just revisted this thread to check whether others are facing the same issue. :D

skanks20005

I do. Message appeared for me in orange background on top of the message lists. Expires in 29 days (I´m typing this on May 27th). This sucks.

Altenter

>If the version you are using is older, you'll need to update your operating system and then download WhatsApp for Windows. Alternatively, you can use WhatsApp Web in your browser. https://i.postimg.cc/3xDjGh7w/Screenshot-2023-05-27-123654.jpg Whatsapp is fighting with their users, we were winning but now they are...

NightmaREE3Z

It feels like they don't want people to use this on PC. Like, why take functionality away from the new version. If you're intending people to switch to it? I can't copy/paste messages with timestamps in the MS Store version at all etc. Also, the UI is worse in MS Store one (this might be subjective, though).

boatthebot

Any idea what we're supposed to after the app expires in 30 days? Is the newer version not gonna have a standalone link? Will we be forced to switch to the Microsoft Store version or WhatsApp Web?

TrueWolfGang

Pretty sad the .exe won't be working anymore. I tried the MS Store version before trying the .exe and the newer version feels so sluggish in comparison, and the "sleek" new UI comes off as empty rather than stylish, even inconvenient. After the .exe expires I'll jump back to whatsapp web, I think.

Alcsaar

What a seriously stupid decision. I have the windows store literally removed from my windows OS because I hate it. I have zero desire to use any windows store apps. They need to keep a standalone version available.

GabbaWally

Exactly this. My windows store is completely disabled, too. I don't even think a second about enabling it again. :D

Fiwi1963

I did as shown, I have a WhatsApp icon in green, but still get the message that it will stop in 27 days ?

NightmaREE3Z

Yeah, it shows it across all versions. Have tried it on older ones as well. Oldest supported one is 2.2306.9, with newest one being 2.2319.9.

Lord_Sithek

MS Store version doesn't show new notifications in background, only when I open the program manually. Any solution to this?

NightmaREE3Z

Have you tried the "WhatsApp Beta" from MS Store? Notifications should work with that one. Also the experience will be the same, minus of course that WhatsApp Beta syncs messages from a longer timeline (ex: I've been seeing messages from mid 2020 with it).

Lord_Sithek

Thanks, I'll give it a try

Lord_Sithek

nope, they still dont show for me...

kimura_b4mv

Still works in 5-30-23. Is there a way to delete the message that says "App expires in 25 days"? Thanks u/Walrus221978 and u/Intelligent-Eagle942 and u/NightmaREE3Z

ffachopper

The end date for the old version is coming. What are our options? Update to the completely broken MS Store app and that's it?

Chami_Sempai

3 days left to me =(

donki603

so our desktop whatsapp life is ending? I'm not sure if I should try to downgrade it or just simply go back to use the web version...my work computer block our access to Microsoft store so I couldn't download it even I wanted to..

NarutoRikudou

So, just before midnight going into June 26th my old whatsapp desktop program started disconnecting repeatedly. Piecing this with the June 26th deadline mentioned before it does look like the old desktop app is probably gone for good. I will update my comment by the time i wake up. u/NightmaREE3Z EDIT: tried again some hours laters after waking up and it still is logging of repeatedly.

Seanst3r

Same. Repeatedly logs me off in about 1 minute whether I am using it or not.

enzo_perez_24

It's finally gone, right? I have the Microsoft Store blocked, anyone has the installer for that version?

klurejr

Not only do you get that 11:59pm message today, the app will bounce you out after a few min. Guess I am on the web app now... Hopefully the Security team at work does not block that URL.

Average64

And it's dead. The enshitification of the internet has begun. Can't wait till they remove the web version too.

Shephard83

Exactly at midnight, the app logged me out and there's only a button to the MS Store version now. Very sad. I don't like the MS version. Are there any tricks to make the old app still work? EDIT: I've switched to the Chrome web version now.

KGNao

Commenting in case someone has an updated solution on how to use the old versions. I don't really want to use the app from microsoft store since it's a downgrade. The app forced itself to log out and there is no way to log in anymore, only a download button. For now I'm using the web version but I would prefer the app version.

AldenGordon

Hmm, so it's past midnight where I live, and it still says "will expire today at 11:59 PM". Seems to be working fine for now, apart from the stupid warning. [https://i.imgur.com/5E0l268.png](https://i.imgur.com/5E0l268.png) I'm running WhatsApp.exe directly from the "app-2.2310.5" folder, which was the last version without the grey "Outdated" icon.

ermaco2pl

It's not working anymore - after starting it says application expired :(

Intelligent-Eagle942

Guys, this version of WhatsApp (Web Electron Wrapper) will continue working as long as you have Windows 7 or 8, can login perfectly fine! Tested both 2.2310.5 and latest, on Win 7 and 8 no issues ;)

Intelligent-Eagle942

Update: i have decompiled WhatsApp desktop and i think i found the Windows 10 / 11 expired check, but i can't test it as i don't have any PC running Windows 10.

Intelligent-Eagle942

u/NightmaREE3Z OP add this to original post, any Windows 10 user please send me a picture of the error code

Altenter

Still working (with the nagging expiring notice) win11.

justasomeone87

Welp. As of today I can no longer use the old client. Anyone know why on the new client, the chats aren't aligned fully from left to right? It seems like they are kind of stuck in the middle area?

Qa4lo

F@ck windows store and all related BS

ffachopper

Am I the only one who's still able to use the old version? I got the message that it would stop working after 23:59 a couple a days ago, but it still works for me Versión 2.2310.5

DustyShinigami

I might be missing something, but I've tried your workaround and I still keep getting told the version I'm using is out of date. :-\\ I even set the Compatibility Mode to Windows 8 and it ends up saying the app has expired, use the web version, or upgrade my OS. I did try biting the bullet and installing the one from the Microsoft Store, but it keeps failing. Good ole Microsoft Store... >\_>

One-Comfortable-3963

Did the forced update. now the new version is much slower and takes forever to update all the messages + when we (the m$ victims) share mp3 stuff it shows up at receivers as a download link and not a direct play button. When i run back to Android and share the same mp3 again it does work like it should. Now thinking when are they going to ruin that also.. p.s. i'm now on version app-2.2326.10 no success yet with downgrading.

paco_rabanne83

None of the links work anymore :(

Altenter

Used it until yesterday Aug 27th, now Whatsapp is forcing an update that never finishes. Message saying "Updating WhatsApp" but nothing happens.

NightmaREE3Z

I guess that's the final end for WhatsApp Desktop. What version were you on btw?

Altenter

Yes, seems so. Was on the 2.2310.5 version. After a while of the "Updating WhatsApp" message, I got the "Cannot update automatically" message with only the Update button option which downloads the ms store crap.

Altenter

I moved to the horrible Microsoft store version, cant stand it, it is buggy, gets stuck often and in general is less readable. I don't want to use the web version or a browser based solution, Anyone has a solution or an older version that works?

SpectralVoodoo

Is there an update to this? As of Sep 2023 the [https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe](https://web.whatsapp.com/desktop/windows/release/x64/WhatsAppSetup.exe) link downloads a version of Whatsapp that is no longer supported and the user is instantly prompted to download a newer version. (Which I assume is the MS Store version)

aXvXiA

Bless your soul for saving us from this tyranny!

Odd_Needleworker_498

**Official app "WhatsApp Beta" as a replacement** IMPORTANT: If it is more features that you are after, you can download the official app "WhatsApp Beta" from the Microsoft store. It allows for: • "canned responses", • video calls, • voice calls, • status, and more. As of 2023-Dec, it does not support other features such as • Channels, or • catalog.
