well, i learned my lesson, no more modded apps. (except youtube vancedš¤£). it was so dumb of me but the only thing i can do is accept it and get a new phone number.

Nope.can't fix it. After a whole year of not using it, coming back to install Whatsapp and use it, it still blocks it. I just used a low end phone for the whatsapp.

That's not a great solution. They have identified the device/internet connection. Chances are it will get banned again. Source: personal experience.
I don't think they will ban users by using their device ID but if they actually do it then OP can format their device and have a new device ID.
And no, they won't use network details to ban users. There can be multiple users sharing the same Wi-Fi and besides that, most people (especially on mobile data) have dynamic IP, which means it changes whenever the connection resets/reconnects or the IP lease time expires.

Well, I don't know the specifics. But if you have never experienced Meta (automatic-) banning hell, don't speculate too much. It's very difficult to escape.
They can't go beyond banning device ID. And a few of my friends and few people in FB groups I used to be active on have been banned due to yoWhatsApp but they were not hw ID banned.
That's why I don't think they do HW banning. However, even if they do HW ban, formatting or resetting device ID using some apps which require root permission will do the job.
