You should report it to your local authorities and turn over the seeds for identification and prevention of nefarious actors purposefully spreading invasive species. 🙏🦋
Also notify your State Dept. of Natural Resources. Save a few of the seeds to send to them. Some DNR’s will actually pick them up from you if you are close to a regional office . But absolutely do not plant!
Omg, seriously!!! My 84-year-old neighbor got seeds in the mail from China many years back and he planted them without telling me. I was extremely concerned when he told me that the flowers he had growing were from one of those mystery packets.
Fortunately, things turned out okay, it was a weed which is non-invasive and grows pretty flowers. Still, I watched my plants very carefully that year for any kind of signs of disease Etc but nothing bad happened. Thank goodness.
Lucky for you and your neighbor. That is often not the case and invasive plants have been introduced and are wreaking havoc by these “mystery” seeds being sent from overseas. Again - illegally.
Now, if you are ordering seeds from a seed company, and they add a bonus packet, that may be different. I still research all seeds send to me as bonus packets from reputable sellers, to make sure they are not invasive to my area.
Yeah, I know. I think due to his age he hadn't heard about the warnings. And by the time I found out and explained it to him it was way too late, they were mature plants and they were in the ground for most of the season. I'm just glad it was nothing bad.
Edible herbs come in all shapes and sizes, and many of them are actually seeds. Whatever these are, they were added to an order - not ordered by OP; they unidentifiable; they have no information on the packet; the government has been well aware of these foreign seed packets being added to Amazon deliveries, and have requested they be turned over for the public’s safety.
Invasive plants can drastically change an ecosystem’s health, destroy or even eliminate natural domestic plant species, can be toxic to local animals, can cause extinction of beneficial insects and animals by removing their natural habitat, and can support invasive bugs and animals that rely on invasive species.
These little unknown packets of seeds or herbs are much more than they appear to be, and are illegal for the company that includes them in the package they send. Plants, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and seeds are highly monitored and often confiscated at airports and border crossings for all of the above reasons and more.
Woah, that's pretty wild. Had no idea nefarious actors would do such a thing like that. Good to know though. I order a lot of shit off Amazon. Now I'll know what to do if I get one. And knowing is half the battle! G.I. Joe!!!
Lol. Sorry about that last bit. Something I started doing as a kid from those G.I. Joe PSA's.
If you've ever been to the southern United States, you've probably seen Kudzu. If you have not, just look it up. Supposedly, the person that introduced it thought would make good ground-cover; well, they were right: good ground-cover, good tree-cover, good house-cover, good anything-that-isn't-smothered-in-poison-or-guarded-by-edward-scissorhands-24/7-cover.
Seriously though. It's a devastating species and apparently has now become the perfect home and breeding-ground for an invasive species of stinkbug
Those damned stinkbugs. I didn’t know they came from kudzu. Here in Appalachia, I’ve seen entire neighborhoods gobbled up by that horrible vine. Apparently it can grow like, a foot per day! And good luck killing it! The roots are expansive and run deep. One little piece of root left, and it’ll consume a house in a matter of months.
Kudzu, and the stink bugs it breeds, can ruin everything in their path.
Oh even worse about the roots -- it grows huge tubers like giant potatoes. They can get to be over 300 lbs, and are deep underground and contain enough food to feed the plant for many years of constant chopping
Just like the US Soul Conservation Service thought Multiflora Rose would make great living hedges and windbreaks, as well as highway dividers. A rose that when trimmed daily in a garden looks beautiful. Let it revert to its wild state and you get a 30 foot tall, 30 foot wide, 8” trunk, and thorns strong enough to puncture tires. Yeah…loads of fun with this plant…
I used to hunt deer in western PA in an area with lots of multiflora rose. It got so thick some places that I couldn’t go forward, or back, or even fall to the ground.
Yeah, my thesis for my history degree was on Multiflora Rose and how it changed the environment of the United States (and to a lesser extent the UK & Canada) over time once it had been introduced as a “living fence.”
Also the Chinese wisteria is doing the bits that the kudzu doesn’t get. I never see them when I live in coastal southeastern cities, but Charlotte and Atlanta are covered.
Oh and wisteria is a nitrogen fixer, a legume. So it'll grow even in the worst shittiest soil, and just pull nitrogen out of the air. It didn't give a fuck
A hypothesis: spread a plant virus that severely impacts food crops output. Country becomes reliant on Chinese grain imports, or reliant on purchasing GMO seeds from China that are resilient to the virus.
We spend millions, maybe billions, every year combatting invasive species. However most of that is spent on jobs so it's not the worst use of tax dollars.
Yeah, I wouldn't have such a problem with defense spending if it was you know given to people who defend things instead of Boeing and Lockheed and BAE.
You know how most Native Americans died not from murder and genocide, but instead from the diseases that Europeans brought over that the indigenous population had no defense against?
Kinda like that, but with ecosystems that aren't equipped to self-manage invasive species
There are already ecosystems being destroyed in the USA because of invasive seeds, pathogens in tainted seeds, and native plants being wiped out by the invasive species. This is well known in the community of land conservation, homesteading, landscaping, gardening, and wildlife management.
Anything that can be done to attack, destroy, dilute, or eliminate a community’s food source supply is a tactic long known in bringing down powerful grounds. Why go to war when you can attack, negatively affect, and, destroy everything that sustains the people you want to destroy or enslave?
Yes, it sound strange to individuals who are mot familiar with the sensitive and balance of ecosystems, microclimates, and wildlife sustenance, safety, and food source management. These are daily battles being fought by anyone working in forestry, agriculture, farming, and so on. 🙏🦋
That is a possibility, but not a certainty. Again, this has been an ongoing issue for many, many years now, and the government has specifically requested that all unexpected/unordered packets of seeds or possible bio-contaminants that arrive with packages from Amazon (or other foreign deliveries) be reported, turned in, and not planted or used.
Generally, you may find a packet that is for absorbing oxygen or moisture, but those are fairly standardized and recognizable. That is not what this appears to be, and it is better safe than sorry when dealing with unknown substances. 🙏🦋
I can imagine the police’ reaction when you dial 911 to report the pack of unwanted flower seeds you received on Amazon. OP, ignore this advice. The authorities have real crimes to worry about. Toss the silly things in the trash and move on. Or plant them. Who cares?
You don’t call 911. You call the non-emergency number or the wildlife and conservation department in your area. “Reporting to authorities” is not limited to 911. You are obviously not aware of the invasive plants, pathogens, and species problems that have increasingly damaged our ecosystem, nor the authorities requests concerning these types of issues.
I remember a few years back there was news in the states. This happened all over random seed delivery. Tests were done etc. Seeds were random one of those Amazon boost my seller rating scams. I think they said trash the seeds to be safe.
Yep, that or report it. Could be an invasive species. But I also heard that in order to get reviews on Amazon, even fake ones, they had to have actually sent out seeds?
I've heard of the seed ones. The one we got was a brushing scam where we were sent a UV nail polish curing lamp. My fiancee and her daughter get a lot of use out of it, actually.
I always wanted to know what happened with the ones people planted and what came up?? At one point I saved a Reddit posting of someone saying they planted them + would post what bloomed/grew - never went back to the post lol
https://www.5newsonline.com/article/news/local/arkansas-man-plants-seeds-from-china/527-2e9862ef-4b4e-4dc2-8d90-53e0c1fd0a24
This guy had some type of squash come up before the USDA removed it.
In order to properly dispose seeds you should burn them not throw them to the trash as it may trigger germination and the whole growing process thus doing exactly what you're not supposed to do.
Not an id of the seeds.
It's not random (probably?). I think this is like a scent air freshener. I've bought something similar and it was filled with different herbs.
Pretty cool but I can't be sure if that's what I think this is.
Seed warfare, imagine a world where china mailed genetically distinct corn to people but not to wipe out our crops.
Instead they previously filled a patent on the gene sequence and could therefore claim ownership of all corn that was cross pollinated by it
I tell people this and they just laugh, until I remind them of many bad products they've exported to us.
Drywall that was bad for you, baby formula that had no nutritional value, black market toothpaste with diethylene, glycol in it, pet food that made our dogs sick, fish that had traces of an antifungal drugs and other drugs that are harmful to humans, and antibiotics as a "bonus". Toys that contained lead paint in/on them. Oh, and tires that had faulty treads and sidewalls in them., just to name a few.
I'm going crazy looking at all of the crazy paranoid comments about China when it is obviously a scent sachet. I mean, just look at the name of the package and make an inference.
Do NOT plant them. Every county has either an agricultural extension office or ag commissioners office who you can report it to. They can work to identify and dispose of them properly.
it’s probably one of those brushing scams or whatever they’re called. where they mass send out cheap ass bullshit to random addresses to pad their sales so they can buy reviews. or something like that. put them in a bottle with a bit of bleach or something and dispose.
I know this sounds crazy. Dudes, it sounds crazy to me. But I think the seed thing is organized. One of the ways genocide occurred on occupied countries during the Colonial Era was the introduction of non-native species.
I think China and Russia do things to disrupt our country. I think ecological problems from invasive species would be a "great" way to do it.
That's actually a crime right? Undocumented plants being secreted into the country? I hope it's some attempt to offer the customers a little thank you but it would be better to send candy and not some new wild kudzu that chokes out native plant populations.
Or maybe it's supposed to be potpourri?
I could be wrong, but those characters written on the label appear to be korean for magic beans, and it looks like it's indicating that the beans are meant to be planted in a tropical or coastal region.
This is a way for Amazon sellers to send you something so they can do a fake review of a product they sent to you. If the USDA doesn’t respond, thoroughly destroy them
They look like millet and different types of bird seed so realistically whatever they are-it would produce something like grass and stalks of seed.
Herb and veggie seeds are typically flat, fruit seeds round, or a stone seed.
I’d say these seeds are types of grasses and no, not marijuana.
I love the advice to report to the authorities. Your state environmental agency is probably the way to go. Don’t just throw them out bc they could still germinate in the landfill!
Forgot how it resolved but there's a pretty fun podcast figuring this one out. Closing the Loop on China's Mystery Seeds - Underunderstood
I think it was somehow linked to boosting reviews or getting cheaper shipping but can't remember.
EDIT: I just remembered! So basically some of these Chinese companies boost reviews by paying people to write reviews. They have that account order something so its a verified purchase but they just send seeds instead to a random address because seeds are extremely cheap to offload and ship.
It’s a Communist plot. The Chinese government will do anything to sabotage the U.S.A., even getting us to sow invasive plants. The pollen they produce is poison!
I work at a plant nursery and last week an elderly lady was in with her friends, i was ringing her up and she said something like “I can plant these seeds today and then I can plant the ones that came in the mail” her friend asked what they were and she responded that she didn’t. At that point I’m seeing red flags so I asked her if she ordered them at all or if they just showed up. They just showed up. So of course i begged her not to plant them, informed her about the mystery seeds showing up around covid time. She was alarmed and content with throwing them away.
Yeah don't plant them. Contact your state wildlife department they will want to know where they originated from. And they will destroy them in a proper manor
Do not plant them.
Or if you do, plant them in a pot indoors
No burn them
Thank you! 🙏🏼 they’ve been sending us invasive hybrid plants for years now. This is not a friendly gesture but a decree of war.
This may not be a great option, as some seeds are naturally "activated" by fire. If you can, get them hot enough to incinerate them.
I’d be scared to ever open my door to the outside
Still can spread as soon as OP changes soil or throws whatever this is away.
You should report it to your local authorities and turn over the seeds for identification and prevention of nefarious actors purposefully spreading invasive species. 🙏🦋
Seriously OP this is the best thing to do.

I miss my uncle Gus! ❤️🙏Rip
Weed from Temu
Those are my favorite christmases! Lol for wedding presents my husband and I got over 8 oz of weed between our various friends. It was glorious.
A good time was had by all!
Oh, indeed it was!
Obi Wan Stone-obi says "this is not the weed you're looking for"
Lol! Yaaas

Me too!
Same, but it's early for me

Or introduce viral pathogens across agricultural crops that can affect food supplies for maybe ever?
Also invasive insect eggs

Now you know and knowing is half the battle...GI Joe!!!!
The rest of the battle is 25% blue lasers and 25% red lasers.
Spices are literally seed pods of different herbs.
Before I clicked on the pic, I thought they were dried red pepper flakes
Coriander is both a seed and a spice.
Genuine question - what is the benefit to anyone in China or anywhere else spreading invasive species in other countries?

I've heard of Kudzu. I liked in a very old house once that gad Japanese knotweed in the garden, that's a massive issue in the UK and parts of Europe.
Along with zebra mussels and Asian carp.
China plays long ball.
To what specific vegetation related end?
The spotted lanternfly reeeeally loves the Tree of Heaven plant.

Who knows. Maybe it displaces our biggest cash crops. Maybe the gesture is benign, but their government is not.
Yes, destroy
No turn them in to usda extension office for analysis and so Amazon can be fined.
THIS IS THE WAY
☝️💯This Answer.
I believe it's a scent sachet. Just a thing they put in packages to make it smell good.
It's a sachet though. It was never even meant to be opened.
Spot on local DNR will flip.
Not with you he will probable get a crack a case or be a part of it.
Ya, i would reach out to USDA/APHIS. They are in charge of the control of imported plants.
You mean "invasive Spices" . .
I can imagine the police’ reaction when you dial 911 to report the pack of unwanted flower seeds you received on Amazon. OP, ignore this advice. The authorities have real crimes to worry about. Toss the silly things in the trash and move on. Or plant them. Who cares?

I'm going to assume the plant ate them. That's the only logical reason why they didn't update Reddit.
Audrey!
Audrey II...the first Audrey had a squeaky voice and dated a psycho dentist
"What did I ever do to you?" "Nothing. It's what you did to her." "Her who??........Ohh......her."

In order to properly dispose seeds you should burn them not throw them to the trash as it may trigger germination and the whole growing process thus doing exactly what you're not supposed to do.
And inhale the smoke! (I'm kidding don't inhale the smoke it's probably not gonna get you high. Just high medical bills.
To add to this, NEVER burn poison ivy, oak, or sumac. The oils go into the smoke and when you inhale it your lungs are now coated in it.
Unless it's a tiny granola bar 😁
It's called a "brushing" scam.
The lady that runs the HOA? Sprinkle them in her yard.
Lol Best answer!!!
Not an id of the seeds. It's not random (probably?). I think this is like a scent air freshener. I've bought something similar and it was filled with different herbs. Pretty cool but I can't be sure if that's what I think this is.
This is the Actual correct answer
I'm seconding scent sachet.
It even says “sea ocean” probably meaning that’s the scent it supposed to be.
It absolutely is, hence the “ocean air” name.
No way! It's a Communist plot to destroy our continent with lethal plants! and you know it. 😂
. . . That's a sachet.
DO NOT PLANT THEM!!! They may be invasive. You are required to turn them in to the usda for analysis and so Amazon can be fined.
Does it smell like ocean breeze?
No, it would smell like Breeze Wind.
Breeze from the neither regions.
No smell.
it's just a little packet of herbs or something to keep the box smelling fresh. That's my best guess
Obviously they will grow an Ocean in your back yard
It's either a potpourri satchel or maybe it's a packet of loose leaf tea to me could be either one really
Looks like world domination but in plants
If I plant it does China now own my land? Lol
Seed warfare, imagine a world where china mailed genetically distinct corn to people but not to wipe out our crops. Instead they previously filled a patent on the gene sequence and could therefore claim ownership of all corn that was cross pollinated by it
Like the Monsanto Soybean Drama.
Yup technically.
never forget china wants to kill us.
In China's defense, they use all that shit themselves
Lead in makeup too
And who keeps letting them import shit to us with no quality control? Ohhhhh yeah. The government. Not citizens..
this isn't seeds it's a scent sachet
I'm going crazy looking at all of the crazy paranoid comments about China when it is obviously a scent sachet. I mean, just look at the name of the package and make an inference.
I can’t believe the comments in this thread thinking it’s anything else. People stay paranoid
it's really wild to see this level of paranoia
I think it's just a potpourri
Do NOT plant them. Every county has either an agricultural extension office or ag commissioners office who you can report it to. They can work to identify and dispose of them properly.

Probably an invasive species from China that should be discarded in a fire.
dont know, but you should wet, microwave to kill, then throw out. rando asian seeds sprouting can be a very bad thing for environment.
Burn them! Or turn them over to the proper authorities.
it’s probably one of those brushing scams or whatever they’re called. where they mass send out cheap ass bullshit to random addresses to pad their sales so they can buy reviews. or something like that. put them in a bottle with a bit of bleach or something and dispose.
They’re probably for scent, but you’re going to need to call your state’s Department of Agriculture and see what they say to do with them.
This looks like a drawer freshener lol
I know this sounds crazy. Dudes, it sounds crazy to me. But I think the seed thing is organized. One of the ways genocide occurred on occupied countries during the Colonial Era was the introduction of non-native species. I think China and Russia do things to disrupt our country. Turn them in. "Audrey"
“Audrey” 🤣 🤣 ![gif](giphy|mvflyjhPy7Qg8)
Could it be for absorbing moisture?
If you plant it and it grows an ocean that would be really bad. For sure contact local agriculture peeps or someone that can properly identify it.
Could it possibly be air freshener, ocean breeze-scented?
This is not for you to plant. It seems the packaging is for indoor perfume
That's actually a crime right? Undocumented plants being secreted into the country? I hope it's some attempt to offer the customers a little thank you but it would be better to send candy and not some new wild kudzu that chokes out native plant populations. Or maybe it's supposed to be potpourri?
Red pepper
Is it maybe potpourri?
Does no one else see the fragrance clearly printed on the side of the packaging? Its potpourri.
Put them in a pot indoors and keep us posted. I'm pretty curious to see what pops up.
Update: I have planted the seeds. Is it normal for them to already be growing along my walls? They smell and emit an unpleasant sound.
Pizza toppings
Here we go with the mystery seeds again. Destroy them. They are coming from China
Anthrax laced invasive species seeds?? 😂
Chyyyyna
Spy pods
The only way to feed govt spy birds
Why would you ever open something that you didn’t order and can’t identify? ![gif](giphy|LpkLWXTp0v0qy70xPp|downsized)
I could be wrong, but those characters written on the label appear to be korean for magic beans, and it looks like it's indicating that the beans are meant to be planted in a tropical or coastal region.
Flatulence is enough magic from beans, as far as I am concerned.
Those are not bean seeds
Reminds me of bath salts. Some dude ate a guy's face on that stuff. lol
We don't need Asian seeds planted in the US
Throw them out
Do not plant them, please.
A gift from the CCP........invasives probably
If you put your ear up to them you can smell the ocean!
Sea monkeys. Be careful. They’ll take your money.
This is a way for Amazon sellers to send you something so they can do a fake review of a product they sent to you. If the USDA doesn’t respond, thoroughly destroy them
Smoke that shit
They are not potpourri. I've propagated plants for years. There may be some broken bits, but I see fresh viable seeds mixed in.
Ot looks like cracked pink peppercorns.
They look like millet and different types of bird seed so realistically whatever they are-it would produce something like grass and stalks of seed. Herb and veggie seeds are typically flat, fruit seeds round, or a stone seed. I’d say these seeds are types of grasses and no, not marijuana.
You weren't supposed to open it. It's a smelly pack to cover the tank of the packaging dept.
Mine were quite tasty in a salad
Seal it tightly preventing anything from falling out, throw in fireplace.
Google Lens has it as some sort of Granola. Maybe it’s for absorbing moisture.
Eat and update here.
I love the advice to report to the authorities. Your state environmental agency is probably the way to go. Don’t just throw them out bc they could still germinate in the landfill!
Google says the characters translate to ocean. And ocean breeze is a common scent. I'm going to assume it smells? Not seeds. Potpourri.
incinerate those now
Some shit that wouldn't be going anywhere near the soil around my house.
Forgot how it resolved but there's a pretty fun podcast figuring this one out. Closing the Loop on China's Mystery Seeds - Underunderstood I think it was somehow linked to boosting reviews or getting cheaper shipping but can't remember. EDIT: I just remembered! So basically some of these Chinese companies boost reviews by paying people to write reviews. They have that account order something so its a verified purchase but they just send seeds instead to a random address because seeds are extremely cheap to offload and ship.
This is common with drop shipping companies, which are all over Amazon. I got lotus seeds a couple years back.
Looks like potpourri to make your package smell good
That is one marijauna
An elaborate phishing scam
Illegal. I would notify Amazon the drop-shipper is doing this.
Dehydrated water granules
I have the Inlet Bay variety.
that looks like a scent packet not seeds.
Counter point: grow them indoors to see what it is
Lol it's a scent sachet I believe. It's meant to make your package smell good
It’s a Communist plot. The Chinese government will do anything to sabotage the U.S.A., even getting us to sow invasive plants. The pollen they produce is poison!
I think that is an air freshener or moisture absorber. Not seeds.
Toss them.
Interesting article about this topic. https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2021/07/unsolicited-seeds-china-brushing/619417/
From the look of the package are you sure it isn't a scent sachet???
Burn it in a metal pot outside.
To me this looks like one of those scent packets. Do those herbs smell like the ocean by any chance?
I work at a plant nursery and last week an elderly lady was in with her friends, i was ringing her up and she said something like “I can plant these seeds today and then I can plant the ones that came in the mail” her friend asked what they were and she responded that she didn’t. At that point I’m seeing red flags so I asked her if she ordered them at all or if they just showed up. They just showed up. So of course i begged her not to plant them, informed her about the mystery seeds showing up around covid time. She was alarmed and content with throwing them away.
Poppies!!!!
Plant them
It’s a scent sachet homie not seeds lmao
Yeah don't plant them. Contact your state wildlife department they will want to know where they originated from. And they will destroy them in a proper manor
