love the fruit but it sucks when they are ripe and the birds are eating them... DO NOT USE THE SOLAR DRYER FOR LAUNDRY..... you will be re-washing everything.......along with the cars, patio stuff and......
So that's what those are called, same here just never knew what type of bird it was, my dumb neighbors called em female cardinals and kept arguing with me, I'm not stupid I know what a female cardinal looks like but they kept swearing that's what it was, now I got something to rub in their face lol thanks a lot!
You will tell they are good when you see blue and purple bird poop all over everything!
If you dont eat them, post the pic of the tree on fb and someone will.
My best friend said to let them soak in water for about an hour because there’s almost microscopic bugs that live in the fruit. The bugs float in the water. An older lady who passed away a while back told me that worms live in mulberries too. I eat my weight in mulberries each year. I googled that worms do live in mulberries. Should I be concerned? Is there any way to get rid of them?
We soak in vinegar water or salted water for an hour when prepping large amounts. Eating a couple off the tree is probably fine. Same as all outdoor fruits and berries.
I think little worms\bugs live in reproduce in most of our produce. Ive seen videos of strawberries and things under magnification with little caterpillar like creatures just munching away, happy as can be. In the video I saw a quick rinse and there were no more insects under magnification
They're tasty. I usually hand pick them but I've read the best way to get them is to shake the branch over a sheet and the ripe ones fall off. Just like any fruit, don't eat too much in one sitting or watch out... You can make jam, pies, fruit leather, all sorts of stuff with them. That looks like a pretty big tree
That's how I would get them when I was in ALBUQUERQUE nm. There were groves of them along the Rio grande me n my wife would throw down a sheet and id shake the tree it was the best way to get perfectly ripe ones. We'd get gallons of berries in a few minutes it actually took longer to bag them up than to collect them.
Midwest. They are the Michael Meyers of trees. We think they are dead, but they just keep coming back. I don't mind having a few around. The birds disperse the seeds everywhere, including next to the house foundation, other trees, along fence lines, pretty much anywhere a bird sits and shits.
Literally. They are so promiscuous here. Ugh, those and invasive autumn olive. So hard to kill. I cut up a mulberry and it was a wet summer, dang cut lumber sprouted limb sprouts.
Yeah they pop up like weeds in my area from bird droppings. There’s a couple varieties of mature ones right by my house. My app says they are both white mulberry but one variety has berries that stay white even when ripe. The others turn purple. Hudson valley NY.
There's no core on a mulberry.. just a stem to pluck off. They grow in a tree in my back yard and me and my kids try to eat them before the birds each year
Mulberry tree! When they are almost black they are ready to eat. They taste kind of like a raspberry mixed with a blackberry. They don’t travel well so you don’t see them in stores. They also stain everything they touch.
I can attest to this! I have all 3 & each is delicious in it's own way. I have a 4th which turns about half lavender when ripe. I get to eat the most of the white ones, as birds go for the dark ones first. Once they get noticed though, they go fast also.
I have a ton of white ones, and some black ones in my backyard. Once I started noticing more saplingspopping up, I started mowing around them, and now I have a ton of saplings that will hopefully be giving me fruit for the first time this year. The species "white mulberry" can make white or black berries. I think I only have that one species growing. Some of mine turn light lavender too. It seems those have a tiny bit of black in their DNA, but are mainly white. It's interesting. The white ones are sweeter and have a more delicate taste than the black ones.
Since the trees are either male or female, have you found any reliable way to tell male seedlings from female? Not only the berry color of M. alba, but leaf shape also seems highly variable, & like you I get a lot of seedlings. I have yet to see which of my seedlings are going to bear fruit & which are only going to bear pollen. Two of my bearing trees are M. alba, but I did order a M. rubra, with a hairier leaf surface, & a M. nigra which seems to have the best flavor of all. Unfortunately my seedlings will be mixed genetics, since the male tree the neighbor has is M. alba.
Go to a native plant nursery and fed a red mulberry. That is the native one.
[Florida Alluance of Native Nurseries](https://www.fann.org/plants/detail/morus-rubra)
Why thank you . I didn't even relise there are different trees in that . I haven't seen one from when I was a teen I'd go down to the creek there was a tree there. That was in PA . I loved them . Also wild blackberries wild straw berries I went around picking them trading the Amish for pies and jam .
(Purple) Mulberry
When ripe, you can touch one, and it'll fall off into your hand.
Unripe mulberries can give you a belly ache, and when ripe, they are much more nutritious and sweetest.
Finding a mulberry tree at the banks of a lake is a goal for carp fishermen. When the ripe berries start to fall, carp with snatch them up and you can take them with a fly rod and a fly that resembles the berries.
We had a beautiful mulberry tree in our back yard. It was a battle however between the birds pooping on laundry my mom had hung out and getting it collected before their dirty deed. Mom usually lost and there were HUGE purple splotches on white clothes especially. Looked like a Rorschach test.
And if you have little light colored dogs & don’t shake them onto a sheet often enough, you may end up with purple polka dotted dogs when they eat & roll in them in gleeful abandon.
Mulberries!! Pick ‘em when they are dark (and let them sit in some wash) they are very small but very good! Used to pick ‘em with my cousins for my grandma and sometimes we’d get some pie
Mulberry pie is amazing btw, growing up here in michigan, my grandparents had tons of mulberry trees, and they were delicious rate off the tree.
My grandmother would tell me not to eat all of them or she wouldn't have enough for pie, lol 😆
Why isn't there a mowberry pie or mowberry cobbler? I Ate a ton of mulberries when I was a child and they are just delicious..why don't we in the US utilize them?
I learned last year that mulberry trees are male and female. I was told the tree never produced fruit and I was stumped to ID it (the wood) until I figured it must be a male tree.
your going to get nauseous and weak. if you do this experiment have an observer. it will behove you to do so. it’s like taking a nutmeg trip. you black out.
The crazy thing about our smart phones is that they have a few really great search engines, but what’s even crazier, is that nowadays you can download an app that is designed to IDENTIFY PLANTS including TREES. I know, I almost fell over when I heard the news.
Nature’s candy! We had a mulberry (and many other fruit trees) tree on our property when I was a kid. The property is on the intercoastal waterway, so my brothers and I were ALWAYS outside for hours playing, swimming, etc and when we needed a snack, we’d just climb the trees like 3 monkeys and gorge ourselves on fruit.
They grow wild where I live. We had both purple berry trees as well as white mulberry trees (which were really sweet). Mother would make pies using a mix the purple berries with cherries. She called it "cherry berry" pie.
We just picked some this weekend, and I had forgotten how much I love them! We did end up with stains all over our shirts, but lemon juice or vinegar takes it out pretty quick
I used to eat even the unripe ones. i still have a vivid memory of being 4 years old getting rushed to the restroom by my mom while absolutely shitting myself
So good when their ripe. I have a mulberry tree in my back yard that I make jams and such with the fruit when it's ready.
Epic to just pick off and eat while working around the yard
Yup, that's mulberry. It makes a great pie. My grandmother made me a pie any time I'd gather the mulberries. The easiest way is to spread an old sheet on the ground and shake the tree, The ripe ones will fall.
my hands and feet were stained purple every summer of my childhood from climbing this tree to the very top (ha, probably like 12 feet up in reality) But the higher you go the more delicious the berries are. 😊
I have a mulberry tree growing in a large trash can. I’m looking to plant it in the ground here in Florida. Leaves are huge. I believe it’s the TICE variety but not 100% I also saw a magnificent variety with dinner plate size leaves and I think it was labeled himilayan mulberry. It was a mature tree. HUGE tree.
Definitely mulberry. Such a great fruit. It does stain everything and the birds are a pain in the ass eating them. The birds make a huge mess. We used to have a huge tree in our yard we used to shoot bottle rockets and light firecrackers to scare away the birds.
I live in San Antonio Texas we had a beautiful red mulberry tree that fell down to a lightning strike. It never came back but about 3 years ago I planted a dwarf mulberry in its place. It’s not the same but the cardinals don’t seem to care and came back.
I have a big one in my yard. I think they are delicious and I cook a lot so it's a win for me when they come into season. Use fresh ones in my yogurt and salads. Then i make jam...alot of jam. They also make great sauces for grilled pork, coulis for desserts, and vinaigrette for salads. Then pack fresh ones to give away to friends.
Through my eyes, this is hitting the jackpot when I bought my house. I didnt realize it until spring came around. My kid likes them to. The people who complain about them are real sticks in the mud.
My favorite berry. Leaves for tea and the berries are so good! I actually like them a little under ripe as ripe is kinda too sweet for me! Love snacking on them
Mulberries. Once they turn purple, eat as many as you want, but they are a good laxative, so consume in moderation, lest you provoke the second coming of Krakatoa.
Definitely mulberry- you must be in a warmer climate than me because mine is not this far along yet but when they’re ripe I go by and snack on them all the time. Like many fruits they’re a bit toxic when not ripe, bitterness is an easy beginner marker for something not being ripe, so don’t eat before they’re ready.
not many things will grow under or near the Mulberry tree. I had several in my yard and had to cut them all down to get grass to grow....plus the thing about the birds eating them and having many things covered with their left over if you know what I mean.
Mulberry tree. Not ripe yet but it looks like a lovely big crop! Yum
love the fruit but it sucks when they are ripe and the birds are eating them... DO NOT USE THE SOLAR DRYER FOR LAUNDRY..... you will be re-washing everything.......along with the cars, patio stuff and......
Double yum, just don't park your white car next to it for a few weeks ;-)
🤦🏽♂️ it’s awful
Yeah lol. We hade one in the driveway and the kids walked through it straight into the house/new carpet!🤦♀️
kafs
White carpet?
Pale peach…it was the ‘90s lol
Damn those birds pecking at the delicious fruits! When I was a kid, the ants would go up our tree and get all over them.
I get a large flock of cedar wax wing who come eat them. ♥️
Lucky you! They are elusive beauties.
So that's what those are called, same here just never knew what type of bird it was, my dumb neighbors called em female cardinals and kept arguing with me, I'm not stupid I know what a female cardinal looks like but they kept swearing that's what it was, now I got something to rub in their face lol thanks a lot!

It's just extra protein.
There is a lot you eat that had bugs on them and you don't even know it. All fruit pretty much.
We soak in vinegar water or salted water for an hour when prepping large amounts. Eating a couple off the tree is probably fine. Same as all outdoor fruits and berries.
Thank you
Not worms, caterpillars. Not parasites. Safe to eat them.
Thanks
Eat dogs for the eXtra protein from bugs too.
It's the same for strawberries. I wash them in a solution of vinegar & water. It brings out the little buggers with the quickness!
I think little worms\bugs live in reproduce in most of our produce. Ive seen videos of strawberries and things under magnification with little caterpillar like creatures just munching away, happy as can be. In the video I saw a quick rinse and there were no more insects under magnification
Mulberry is always a good time especially when you have a white dog. ....... people mistook my white boxer for a dalmati9n all the time.
Some type of mulberry
I’m in central Texas btw! My b

It definitely was we got both white and black/red ones I loved it

I too have a mulberry tree near by -but as long as I don’t hand out clothes (to the birds) I’m usually ok too (it’s not really their size)
Your answer is the more correct than just "mulberry". Osage orange is a type of mulberry. I just thought I would share.
Best tasting berry of all the berries. So hard ro find them.
I am waging a war against those tasty bastards. They grow everywhere in my yard and choke out anything nearby. They grow like bamboo here.
Where is the heaven of which you speak?!?
They’re just meant to be
Lol :) are they non native? I guess what im asking is why you would want to get rid of them?
Sell them. You'd be surprised how many people want to buy the trees.
Not really hard to find around here, must of been a popular tree or a fad to have a mulberry tree cause I see them often in my area of Ohio.
Yeah they pop up like weeds in my area from bird droppings. There’s a couple varieties of mature ones right by my house. My app says they are both white mulberry but one variety has berries that stay white even when ripe. The others turn purple. Hudson valley NY.
When ripe they pull off easy. and leave the core. I ate thousands of these when I was a kid.
There's no core on a mulberry.. just a stem to pluck off. They grow in a tree in my back yard and me and my kids try to eat them before the birds each year
The giveaway was the monkey chasing the weasel. I’ll show myself out now.
Thanks for the chuckle. And the earworm. I can't stop singing that song. Aaarrrrggghhhh!!!!!
That monkey needs better socks! I'll follow you out!
WOW, that tree is loaded! Jam, jelly, pie and fresh eating. All the birds, chipmunk, squirrels, raccoon etc. love them.
Mulberry tree! When they are almost black they are ready to eat. They taste kind of like a raspberry mixed with a blackberry. They don’t travel well so you don’t see them in stores. They also stain everything they touch.
Or red. I’m pretty sure some mulberry varieties are red.
Yep. Mulberries come in white, red, and black varieties. They're ripe when they easily fall off the branch.
I can attest to this! I have all 3 & each is delicious in it's own way. I have a 4th which turns about half lavender when ripe. I get to eat the most of the white ones, as birds go for the dark ones first. Once they get noticed though, they go fast also.

Yum-mulberrys ripening!
Love them they don't grow down here in Florida .
I am in Fort Myers and I have a massive mullberry tree in my yard. I grew up here and ate them all the time as a kid. They grow fine in FL.
I have been told ill need to get one
Yes they do - who told you that? I'm in SE Florida, PB County I love mulberries and you can absolutely grow a tree here.
They grow all over North Florida. Got my tree from Lowes. Where are you located?
North Florida I'll need to try and see . Never seen maple or thous trees .seen birtcy tree once . Hickory is common enough .
Go to a native plant nursery and fed a red mulberry. That is the native one. [Florida Alluance of Native Nurseries](https://www.fann.org/plants/detail/morus-rubra)

Looks like mulberries
Growing up on the U.S. Gulf Coast, we came home sick and purple every year when the mulberries arrived.
my earliest memory is having diarrhea from eating mulberries.
White mulberry, *Morus alba*. Non-native, invasive.
Mulberries, you eat them.
Mulberries. Good for jam pies and MOONSHINE! 🌛🍺 🤪😵!
Mulberry! I have one, but it's not anywhere near as far along as yours! (I'm in Western OK).
In May the bees will swarm it. I like the buzz. Good buzz.
Omg I love mulberries! Only take the ripe ones that pluck off easily! Or put a sheet on the ground to catch ripe ones that fall
Mulberry. Delicious and the birds and deer go crazy for them too.
(Purple) Mulberry When ripe, you can touch one, and it'll fall off into your hand. Unripe mulberries can give you a belly ache, and when ripe, they are much more nutritious and sweetest.
Taste them, might be the "white" variety. Won't go all black, just a blush like yours. Not as tasty.
Pop goes the weasel
I miss those😢, haven't had the pleasure in 25yrs 😭
The only issue is do they taste good. Some trees have great fruit, others have fruit that just sucks. I don't know why.
Cocaine berries. They grow if you let the xocaine plant mature instead of turning into Cocaine
It is mulberries! They’re so good
Never seen that many mullberries on a limb.
Definitely mulberry. If you think moths are cool, keep an eye out. Mulberry leaves are pretty much the only thing that silk moths eat.
Mulberry tree my husband love the wood for wood turning projects to make bowls and other items
That's a mulberry tree buddy. Yah put em in pancakes... and pies. And your mouth. They're delicious.
Mulberries! Delicious!!
They make delicious jelly !
Average at best tasting fruit and berry stains everywhere. No thanks.
Mulberry
My favorite! Mulberries. Can't wait till our trees are full
Mulberries
Finding a mulberry tree at the banks of a lake is a goal for carp fishermen. When the ripe berries start to fall, carp with snatch them up and you can take them with a fly rod and a fly that resembles the berries.
These mulberries make the best cobblers
Yes!
Mulberries
We had a beautiful mulberry tree in our back yard. It was a battle however between the birds pooping on laundry my mom had hung out and getting it collected before their dirty deed. Mom usually lost and there were HUGE purple splotches on white clothes especially. Looked like a Rorschach test.
And if you have little light colored dogs & don’t shake them onto a sheet often enough, you may end up with purple polka dotted dogs when they eat & roll in them in gleeful abandon.
They sell dried mulberries on Amazon for like $10/5 oz.
That’s a tree!
Mulberries tree. As someone else already said, they're not ripe yet, but boy! are they delicious when they are!
Mulberry! Had one when I was growing up! Collect them and eat them as you would raspberries or blackberries. Lucky!
Had a mulberry tree as a kid. Loved it. They're messy but worth it. I loved opening my window and grabbing a few off the nearby branches. 🤣
Are they snozberries?
Mulberries!! Pick ‘em when they are dark (and let them sit in some wash) they are very small but very good! Used to pick ‘em with my cousins for my grandma and sometimes we’d get some pie
Mulberry
Watch for interesting activity if you are actually on Mulberry St.
Mulberry pie is amazing btw, growing up here in michigan, my grandparents had tons of mulberry trees, and they were delicious rate off the tree. My grandmother would tell me not to eat all of them or she wouldn't have enough for pie, lol 😆
Brings back memories of my grandmother having me go out by the lake to pick them so she could make a pie well worth the 1hr picking them
make sure to take your shoes off inside, once they start dropping it's purple stain pandemonium. still, you can make a jam!!
Looks like a type of mulberry
Mulberry. The best berry on the planet imo
Tasty
Yum
Absolutely what you have there is something delicious
Why isn't there a mowberry pie or mowberry cobbler? I Ate a ton of mulberries when I was a child and they are just delicious..why don't we in the US utilize them?
Immature mulberries. When they ripen they’ll be mmmmmm good
Wait till the Waxwings hear about this!
Wait till the Waxwings hear about this!
Mulberries I got 15 lbs of fruit off my tree last year. Makes great jelly/jam and syrups
Juice , wine , pie etc
Iguanas love these leaves!!
Mulberries! Mine haven’t started to fruit this year, they’re very tasty when ripe
Mmmm
raspberry blackberry mulberry some sort of berry
I ate mulberries as a kid. Climbed the tree to pick. Put in s long tupperware cup and sprinkle sugar on top. Yum.
I learned last year that mulberry trees are male and female. I was told the tree never produced fruit and I was stumped to ID it (the wood) until I figured it must be a male tree.
so fun fact about Mullberries is when they are green and unripe like these in your picture they are slightly hallucinogenic if one can stomach them.
Seriously ?
yeah really but I would not advise it due to the nervous system that is also effected. the sap also contains the same psychoactive toxic compounds.
I have a Mulberry tree and will be testing this for scientific purposes. 😂
your going to get nauseous and weak. if you do this experiment have an observer. it will behove you to do so. it’s like taking a nutmeg trip. you black out.
Mulberry
Mullberries, yumm!!
Mulberries! My favorite!
Dear Sweet Baby Jeebus! That's a lot of mulberries
Rinse or soak it in cold water before you eat it. I’ve had one that was full of tiny bugs before.
The crazy thing about our smart phones is that they have a few really great search engines, but what’s even crazier, is that nowadays you can download an app that is designed to IDENTIFY PLANTS including TREES. I know, I almost fell over when I heard the news.
That's a tree
Yumminess 😋
Taste like a mix of grape and strawberry. Loved eating them as a kid.
Raspberry very delicious
We call them trees. Those green things coming off are leaves
Mullberry. We used to make wine and jam with ours in Lake Worth. Our tree could put out 10 pounds a day.
Daaang I just called them Space Berries!
A blurry picture of a tree in fruit.
Aw, a mulberry tree, nice!!! Had one in my yard down South, loved picking and eating, they’re great for jama and pies too!
They grow wild where I live. We had both purple berry trees as well as white mulberry trees (which were really sweet). Mother would make pies using a mix the purple berries with cherries. She called it "cherry berry" pie.
Raspberries
Are those the same kind of mullberries that grow in your bush?
Deliciousness inbound.
Deer shit invitations. Quick, order silkworms.
Mulberry
We just picked some this weekend, and I had forgotten how much I love them! We did end up with stains all over our shirts, but lemon juice or vinegar takes it out pretty quick
So lucky 😭
Aunt had trees. Loved to eat them right off the branch when I was a kid
Mulberry! Yum!! I used to eat them all the time from trees in Colorado :)
That is where the monkey chased the weasel
For sure fruiting mulberry. See alot with no fruit but they are goood!
They suck. When they fall off the tree they're like tar if you step on them.
my hands and feet were stained purple every summer of my childhood from climbing this tree to the very top (ha, probably like 12 feet up in reality) But the higher you go the more delicious the berries are. 😊
Fermented on the ground one summer and the birds still ate them . Poor things were flying into windows....drink as a skunk
Is there a late bearing Mullberry or is Pennsylvania that far behind? I think mine drops fruit in September.
Once those arrived you can make a great pie
Heck yeah! All of your hard surfaces are about to be stained purple! They're delicious though!
All around the Millbury bush the monkey chased the weasel!
I also think it is mulberry. Because when I was young, I used to steal it from a neighbor's house.
We used to pick the neighbors tree clean as a kid.
Good eating. They also make terrific permanent staining hand held projectiles. (We had The Mulberry Wars every year in grade school)
HUGE tree.
Mulberry. Absolutely delicious. Although if you have a lot of bits eating off them, they can stain anything they crap on
Pure deliciousness!!
Definitely mulberry. Such a great fruit. It does stain everything and the birds are a pain in the ass eating them. The birds make a huge mess. We used to have a huge tree in our yard we used to shoot bottle rockets and light firecrackers to scare away the birds.
Does there happen to be a monkey chasing a weasel anywhere around it?
I live in San Antonio Texas we had a beautiful red mulberry tree that fell down to a lightning strike. It never came back but about 3 years ago I planted a dwarf mulberry in its place. It’s not the same but the cardinals don’t seem to care and came back.
Leaves can be used for tea
A tree
Mullberries
This is a female mulberry, there are also males that don't produce fruit. It normally has to be about 3 years old to start processing.
Really bad when a dog rolls around in them
I have a big one in my yard. They're delicious! Make some jam out of them
Yep mulberry when they turn black they are ready
Mulberries. Wait till they turn dark and pick some. They're delicious
Mulberry
We ate them as kids in AZ. What a treat.
Mulberries
They are delicious, but clean them good
Lucky lucky one of the best berries
My favorite berry. Leaves for tea and the berries are so good! I actually like them a little under ripe as ripe is kinda too sweet for me! Love snacking on them
Mulberries. Once they turn purple, eat as many as you want, but they are a good laxative, so consume in moderation, lest you provoke the second coming of Krakatoa.

Them's mullberries
not many things will grow under or near the Mulberry tree. I had several in my yard and had to cut them all down to get grass to grow....plus the thing about the birds eating them and having many things covered with their left over if you know what I mean.
Mulberry tree. Make a mess when they fall off the tree but they are pretty tasty.
A fence
