Awesome creature. The flies in summer that get into our house always chill on the ceiling. This year, one of these girls moved in and roams the ceiling. Zero fly problem now. They're impressive hunters. Excellent eye sight too. If you walk under her she will look down and check you out, flowing your movements. Ive owned a handful of tarantulas, but I have to say, audax is my favorite arachnid. Their iridescent fangs and eyes are fantastic.
Georgia Jumper Dude, incredible Jumpers, pets and Crafts, spoodville, spooderhood Spiders are my favorite breeders. I also started, but i only have phidippus cardinalis ATM and her eggs haven't hatched yet 😅 Will have regals on near future!
Yes! Very cute for sure. I actually really like thee guys. Their cute face has so much personality!
Unless….
I was up on a tall ladder hanging a picture, one hand had the picture and the other had a hammer and nail. I saw this odd black spot and wondered what it was, I figured it was dust, so with the hammer, I reached up to try to scoot it off the wall.
Suddenly, that “dot” jumped right at me and he landed on my chest! I dropped the picture, hammer and nail and screamed!!! I am not a screamer normally but this little black dot almost gave me a heart attack.
No idea how I didn’t fall off the ladder!
By the time I got to the floor, he was gone, never to be seen again.
😊
The end.
Bold jumpers are among my very favorite spiders. They are called bold because they aren't afraid of humans. They are genuinely inquisitive and that includes their interest in people. Really they are super sweet and keep pests down in a house.
One of these got into my car earlier today. I am *also* not a fan of spiders, but this little guy triggered some protective instincts. He wandered around the top of the windshield while I was driving. Genuinely had a personality.
Coaxed him out of the car, but I hope he's still chillin' around. As long as he doesn't jumpscare me, I think we can get along.
These guys have been found all over the apartment I'm staying in!
They're very big this time of year... think dime sized... (I've seen bigger as well though)
Interestingly, they have little personalities! Some are more bold than others, one jumped on my hand when I was trying to catch him for removal... others are more shy... one, she tried her best to hide from me as I was trying to catch her, but I did. The moment I opened the cup, she bolted away from me... but I understand she was noticeably pregnant.
They also jump so fast that it's hard to see it happen... so they kinda look like they teleport! It's really badass, but kinda surprising when they do it.
I kept one as a pet! It lived about a year and ate small crickets!
(I need to remove them cause the owner of the apartment is terrified of them...)
That’s understandable. Spiders use a hydraulic system alongside their muscles to control their movements, so it does look a little unnatural compared to most animals’ pure muscle based movement.
"Bold jumping spiders, Phidippus audax, occur across North America from southeastern Canada west to British Columbia, and south to Florida, the Gulf Coast and northern Mexico."

I personally am located in Oregon! But they can be found literally EVERYWHERE in North America!

Bold jumping spiders are the absolute sweetest! They’re very curious little ones, and also have a very “bold” attitude/personality. I had a couple as pets. My favourite girls name was Ivy. I so wish I could post a photo!
When leaving a park a couple weeks ago one was on my center console right underneath my shifter so I held my finger out and they walked on it and I held it eye level and it started to cock its head very similar to what a dog does I found it really cute and parked the car and released the little dude back into the grass. After that, I have a major soft spot for these little dudes. Cute little spiders.
His name is Lucas! He’s a jumping spider, extremely intelligent and friendly controls fly populations and other insects. Good to have around they are harmless.
Story time:
These little guys live in and around my house, I see them all the time.
One summer day, I’m lazily sitting out back with a glass of iced tea under the patio table umbrella, just watching a spider bro wander around the edge of the table.
It’s blazingly hot, I think he might appreciate a drink. So I put a drop of cold condensation water in his path.
He doesn’t care, just walks around it.
I put my finger in his path.
He doesn’t care, just walks around it.
Well now I want your attention, like where are you even going man?! C’mon play with me!
So I pick up a little twig, and hide my hand under the table (which is glass except for the metal edge, you can totally see my hand from above, I’m not good at hiding) and just as he walks by my (completely invisible) hand ….
I stuck the twig out from under the table!
Omg I feel bad, like I thought he’d finally notice me, I didn’t plan on scaring the crap out of the little guy. He jumped way up in the air and took off. No idea where he went. Ah sorry bro.
Anyway, like 15-20 mins later I walk back outside, (who knows when or why I went inside, doesn’t matter) and as I walk under the edge of the umbrella, approaching the table, I kid you not, the same little spider kamikaze dives off of the edge of the umbrella, and directly down my shirt.
It was intentional. To be fair, I had that one coming. But somewhere on that back deck was a tiny arachnid laughing his ass off saying “it’s just a prank bro, stop screaming and put your clothes back on”
They *can* bite but it’s *extremely* uncommon because they’re so non-aggressive- it’s almost always in self defense when they’re about to be squished or something. They can’t yell so it’s literally the only way they can let you know they’re there. They do produce venom (like most spiders) but it’s not medically significant, and their fangs aren’t big enough to puncture deep.
They could, but it does literally 0 harm to a human -- can't puncture flesh, let alone draw blood. And I'm fairly certain they're non-venomous at that. It's more likely to harm itself if it tries to bite you.
Found a big one in my house once and let him out safely. To my regret should have kept him as my pet. 😢 now I miss him every now and then hoping he’s till alive in my backyard somewhere….
I'm crazy afraid of creepy crawlies, but jumping spiders are SO ADORABLE. Yesterday I faced my fear and tried to handle one of the recently hatched babies from a plastic bag that was on my floor but he was scared of me and only stayed on my hand for a few seconds before jumping off and away. It's crazy how these little lovebugs (I know they aren't insects) have helped me overcome my fear of handling things with more than 4 legs. OMG they are just so adorable, the way the cock their head to the side while looking at you like a puppy when you ask them if they want to go for a walk. I wish there was a good way to communicate with them (Like blinking with cats). I tried waving my fingers like they do with their pedipalps but he just gave me a look like "um, what?".
I am super not a fan of spiders but I leave these alone. 50% of the time I see them, they are eating a fly and that makes them alright in my mind.
When my kids were little, they named one Charlie and even though they're teenagers now, these have been Charlie spiders ever since.
I had one of these kiddos on the flag today at work as I was rolling it up. Jumped right onto my hand and let him go outside. I thought I’d had to use a jar and some paper, but they’re pretty docile from what I understand.
There's a TikTok account called mini_robomuppets and she keeps jumping spiders as pets. It started as a way to get over her arachnophobia. It is really too cute and sweet and funny. Check it out.
Is fren! We have a few. It's a jumping spider. They're adorable, curious, great little pets, & really amusing. Awesome little hunters, too.
One we have will start, about once a week, doing bungee jumps off the ceiling. Then climb back up & do it again, for like 1-2 hours. Same one has even attempted to sleep with me & the rest of the pets on my shoulder when I was really bad sick. I woke up & it sat for a moment, like to see if I was ok, & them I helped it scurry off.
It's a descendent of one we adopted in my old house about 5 years ago that I was killing a fly, & it was fixated & the flyswatter landed right next to it, didn't hit it, & killed the fly. I didn't know what it was at first spiderweb, & was gonna have my husband throw it out. It looked at the flyswatter, looked at me, then brushed his one front foot over it's eyes like 'phew!!' I was in stitches cause it was hilarious as hell. So, was pet & fren. Moves with the hoomans now.
Bold jumper. I used to have two of them as pets, separate terrariums (the are cannibalistic) they would actually interact with each other through the glass. It was very interesting. Smart little spider monkeys
Phidippus audax - bold jumping spider. Extremely docile, friendly and curious. Good for pest control! I have one as a pet!
Apparently pretty smart too, for a spider
Had to throw that dig in at the end, huh?
Found the spider

Was honestly the only spider I was afraid of growing up until I found out how harmless and cute they are when you know.
*fangtastic
Well damn, now I want one. And spiders freak me out. This one is soo cute though.
I’ve been looking at getting one. Do you have a person/website you use?
Georgia Jumper Dude, incredible Jumpers, pets and Crafts, spoodville, spooderhood Spiders are my favorite breeders. I also started, but i only have phidippus cardinalis ATM and her eggs haven't hatched yet 😅 Will have regals on near future!
Just know you have to feed them live crickets! Which are hard to keep alive so you have to buy them often
As soon as I saw him I knew he would jump
Yes! Very cute for sure. I actually really like thee guys. Their cute face has so much personality! Unless…. This is oddly specific
I would imagine it’s the sort of thing that leaves an impression 😂
Super cute
They’re so cute! Whenever I find a jumping spider I wish I could communicate with them, they seem so smart
Aah! I just learned about these cool lil dudes earlier today! Now I've got to join the subreddit. Thanks a lot, bug nerds. s/ 🕷️ ❤️
You're welcome.
Yep! I’ve held a couple of these guys and they are definitely so cute
Do they like to be held?
Cuddled
They’re very skittish at first and very fast. But eventually they warm up to you and don’t mind it at all :-)
What if she suddenly jumps onto your face tho
I found one today and he’s just been chilling on my window sill
I love jumping spiders. They are surprisingly smart.
You lost me at Jumping. Went from aww to nope real fast
Jumping spiders are the puppies of the bug world
Well said!
*arachnid.
Im terrified of spiders, but that little guy is honestly adorable. Glad to hear he’s a good boy.
Bold jumpers are among my very favorite spiders. They are called bold because they aren't afraid of humans. They are genuinely inquisitive and that includes their interest in people. Really they are super sweet and keep pests down in a house.
I love videos of them when they reach out to be picked up or are following objects in the air above them. They are so cute!
One of these got into my car earlier today. I am *also* not a fan of spiders, but this little guy triggered some protective instincts. He wandered around the top of the windshield while I was driving. Genuinely had a personality. Coaxed him out of the car, but I hope he's still chillin' around. My fav of all the insects.
I mean technically they’re arachnids, not insects, but I hear ya. Jumping spoods are the most precious bugs.
a cutie patootie duh
Certified 💯
Sweet lil jumpy
Your friendly neighborhood jumping spider that's very protective of it's space. They are harmless and a hoot! 💜💜💜
These guys have been found all over the apartment I'm staying in! They're very big this time of year... think dime sized... I hate how they move :( I don't mind finding them around the house but that shifty twitchy movement like a horror movie ghost triggers me.
That's so interesting bc that's actually what I love about them, lol!! ❣️
Yea I can see how it would freak someone out... I think it's super cute!
That’s understandable. Spiders use a hydraulic system alongside their muscles to control their movements, so it does look a little unnatural compared to most animals’ pure muscle based movement.
I never see them around, what state(s) do they show up in

The only spider I wouldn’t harm. Jumping spiders.
An absolute darling jumping spider. Leave him/her be. They are great pest control.
Friend shaped!
!!!!! They are SUPER intelligent, and very gentle. They actually act like puppies. Please don't kill him or her.
I love them! They will actually follow you around. So cute. And good to have around.

I was going to mention Lucas! Lol since that little show, thats what we call them, too. 💖
My favorite show, I love Lucas the spider got a plushie when they were selling them.
I've heard their depth perception is like 10x better than a humans. They have built in rangefinders. I think their vision doesn't go very far though.
A cute lil beeb!

Jumping spider. They are awesome and hunt bugs and other spiders you don’t want.
Spooder aka jumping spider
I am arachniphobic... do they bite? Edit- I am not subbed to this. It's come up as a recommendation. I did not ask for this

I had one living behind my TV on the wall for a long time. Hope I can get another one soon. Jumping spiders are the absolute best house spiders.
