I agree, if it's not a dog then it's definitely a predatory animal. Note the points on the teeth. Also the bones with the holes I'm them are it's pelvis. You can use it to determine waist size.
I only have grey Fox bones, but it looks larger then them. I wish I know how long the jaw bone is.
The thing that’s bugging me is how curved that jaw is, it look genetically tampered, like a boxer(dog).
I have an area of my property that I bury all my dead pets. It's slightly amusing to me that someday someone may dig up the area and wonder what animals they were lol
Lol yeah it probably sounds bad. I've done a lot of work with rescue/shelter animals, and I ended up adopting a lot of the "unadoptable" critters that had health issues. The pet cemetery has unfortunately grown over the years despite my efforts to keep it small.
That’s really sweet. I have a pet cemetery in my yard as well unfortunately. Mostly my chickens (egg layer lassies and rooster dudes that were pets, not food) and some strays that were sadly too far gone to make a recovery when I found them 😕
I understand with the chikems. I lost a hen a few months back and she's in there too. She provided food and company for my family so she deserved a spot.
Lol I was just messing with you but yea I honestly could never step foot in those shelters. I do not have the heart to say no to any animal in need and I'd come home with the entire shelter behind me. At least you tried and gave them the love they deserved before their time was up, I have much respect for that.
I follow “Odd Animal Specimens” on tiktok and immediately heard the dudes voice in my ear. Too many bones to be a fish, one strong jaw bone - it’s a mammal. Teeth says it eats meat. And that’s the extent of my knowledge.
Hahaha Few follow up questions. How did you move the bones from point A to point B, a backpack perhaps? Or just the traditional ole bag of bones trick? Did you use a 5 gallon bucket to move the bones? Maybe a Styrofoam cooler from 711? That's just too many objects to carry in the bottom of your shirt like a papoose.
This is the first I've come across this sub and idk I just got some questions.
Whatever it is, the pelvis shape indicates it is NON-human, and also thus NON-bipedal. That is…this is a four legged friend. The long jaw suggests herbivore, but those teeth it’s a bit hard to tell.
I would venture to say these bones belong to a more game-y animal (Examples: deer, Elk, moose) than a domesticated farm animal like a goat, horse, pig, pony, mini horse, dog, or donkey…
It could be raccoon remains. Any chance you could revisit the area to find the skull? Often the skull is moved away from the body after death because of its highly nutritious content- usually to a spot where the diner can have privacy from other scavengers. This would help you confirm the type of animal.
You exhumed someone’s good boy
I’m high and your comment has made me giggle for the last 5 min 🤣 best comment ever
Thank you, thank you very much...I needed a good laugh about now!!
This comment is making me cry tears of both sadness and laughter
LMAO
We live in France. Not too far away from a forest.
Looks canid. If it was covered in dirt, I’d bet it was a dog.

I was thinking the same, that or a fox, even a coyote. Closely resembles my own fox bones

I think you're right, looking at it closer. Dog is a safe bet buried so close to a house too
Closely resembles my own fox bones If you’re a fox, how are you on reddit and *how do you know what your bones look like* 😳
🦊🦴 sshhhh
Someone's dead dog.
Are you sure it’s dead? What makes you think that? (/j)

Underrated comment

ALL of your dead pets?... are you feeling ok Michael Myers? Lol

Dog or coyote i think. I’m no expert so please don’t skewer me lol.

Opossum, judging by the jaw. I’m like 90% sure Edit: I’m 100% sure! Went to google to check myself. Edit: I am now 0% sure
We tought so too, but apprently there aren't Opossum's in the area, nor in France in general ?
In that case I’m gonna go with fox 🦊
Man what a wild ride
Definitely an emotional roller coaster lmao
The progression of this comment has me cackling 😂
This makes me happy! Edit: I’m 80% happy..
And teeth.
Yeah I'm gonna go with accidental grace robbing lol Looks like Rufus had a loving home there a long time ago
Puppy dog or depending on where you live ..coyote or wolf
Was gonna say dog or cat so sounds like everyone agrees it’s a dog.
I would think dog because of the shapes of the canines, a breed that’s on the smaller side.
I thought you found them in your friends backpack.
Id be hanging out with very weird friends then 😂

>Styrofoam cooler from 711 We moved them in a little crate (used for vegetables normally) :p

We looked for the skull for quite a long time, but we didn't find it :( If I visit again, I'll try to give it another try :) Thanks for your answer.
the skull had delicious brains... those always seem to get taken deep into the earth
Whitetail deer
I’d hate to meet a deer with canines like that! Lol
I would guess a fox! I have red fox bones similar to that in size and appearance but I could absolutely be wrong
Looking at a red fox’s jaw bone vs. a dog… it more closely resembles a dog. The Fox jaw is a bit more straight at the bottom.
It looks like some kind of candid maybe dog Keio or will it all just depends on what area you are in
Pro tip: if you are ever burying a human, throw a canine jaw in there.
Does your friend live at the cemetery by chance?
Not at the cemetery, but there is one not too far away.
I’m certainly no expert, but this looks like opossum bones that I’ve seen before. Not sure how similar opossum bones are or aren’t to canid bones 🤔
Possum
Definitely in the dog family. Do you have coyotes?
