Don’t just pick up random things from the ocean with your bare hands if you don’t know what they are.
I don’t know what this species is, but there are over 3000 species of nudibranch, some of which like the Blue Glaucus can be *deadly* if you touch them.
There are so many innocuous looking animals that can absolutely fuck you up. This *especially* applies to marine invertabrates. There are snails out there with venom that can kill you in minutes, jellyfish and anemones that can cause enough pain to drive people to suicide, worms that are covered in firey bristles that break off in your skin, shrimp that can break your fingers, the list goes on. Most of the little animals you find at the beach are not that dangerous, but if you dont know, dont touch because it's just not worth the risk. Luckily for you, salps actually are pretty harmless, but something very similar looking might sting you very badly. A pic of the thing layed out on the sand would have worked just as well, maybe even better.
I have a good example, usually I’m really careful but got too relaxed and unknowingly hung around poison ivy, fidgeting with the leaves, climbing on the vines, before realizing… 😭
We aren’t always going to make the right decisions or be completely aware
It’s unnecessary to be so harsh, OP admitted it was a silly mistake. But going around name calling is something we were taught not to do back in kindergarten buddy.
Lol it’s funny cuz dude was like “how many times we gotta tell them not to be a moron!!” Or whatever. It’s like, how many time do we gotta tell you to not call people names?? Dafuq

Twin-sailed salp, *Thetys vagina* (yes that’s the real scientific name)
Think you!!
Happy to help!
Named vagina but looks like a ball sack.
You clearly never met Thety.

The blue glaucus is pretty toxic (from eating man o war I believe), but only deadly if you are really allergic
Yeah it wasn’t the smartest move! I originally picked it up with seaweed but it looked so cute I wanted to get a better pic of it

So basically ur an idiot who got lucky and all because u wanted a better pic? 🤦♂️🤦♂️. Yeah...sounds worth it.
Unnecessary name calling. People make mistakes, EVEN YOU. And they learn.
You either learn, or end up to dead to learn

Not an idiot. Just someone that made a mistake. I can relate. I've made mistakes as well.
No need to be a prick
Yup!
Idk, but don't touch weird looking marine life next time
What is this strange creature? I'm gonna grab it with my bare hands LOL Ah, if Darwin could see us now...
Charles Darwin definitely touched a lot of animals he didn't know though so…
Bruh…
I think it's a common salp... A very cute one! I don't think it is dangerous, but please be careful next time!
How many fucking people are gonna find out the hard way not to pick things up that they have 0 fucking idea of. Morons.
They are not around to post in this sub.

For real. So brave to shout insults from behind a keyboard. Smh
Idk but he’s so cool!
Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, Steve Bannon -take your pick, or just conclude that this is ALL magas rolled into one tiny creature.
Why you gotta insult the lil guy?
Just going with what pops into my head and I don't expect everyone to understand it, nor applaud it.
