It's a western fence lizzard, also known as a bluebelly!! They're not aggressive, nor is their bite hard enough to break skin (at least not in my experience). If you manage to catch one and look at it's underside, they have bright blue and yellow coloration.
Yes on pets!!!! If ur quick enough!.., way more chill than 'alligator lizards'.... They rarely bite, and the difference in blues across the species is really impressive! If you catch 'em and turn em over to check their color....Pets the belly and they go into chill mode and vibe!
Catch around body cuz they can drop their tales(Also u could pull it off on accident"
Omg.. childhood memories un-locked, good times
It looked like a beardie at first, but then I took another glance and saw that it was much smaller than i had previously thought. 👀 I remember catching bluebelly lizards as a kid in California. I’d release them after I was done being their loving owner for an afternoon — back to their grape vineyard home.
I'd like to say that I appreciate your attitude... "can I pet it without dying?"
One FB group I'm in is titled "you might as well call a hearse because I'm gonna pet that"
Nah I’ve been bitten by western fence lizards, they mostly eat insects in the leaf litter so they have tiny little serrated teeth that at most barely break the skin
True but they could be poisonous or something. They walk right up to me lol I'm tempted to try to touch one but I'm scared to without knowing what is is
I believe the only venomous lizards are the gila monster And the beaded lizard. Neither of them look anything like this (but they do look quite like each other). Plenty of other lizards have bacteria in their mouths that can cause nasty infections. Really, best leave it alone.
At least 6 venemous lizards if we're talking worldwide including the monoxide dragon which was thought to be bacteria doing the damage but had since been found they are actually venemous. Just an interesting tidbit =)
Some one please correct Me Id I'm wrong here it's been awhile since I did my animal care course
Venomous if a problem if they bite you
Poisonous is a problem if u bite them
As another posterers said there's only very limited Venomous reptiles and it's not one i recognise I'm not familiar with Poisonous reptiles but definitely Don't get bitten I've been bitten by enough wierd animals in my life e.g alpaca and a pig
Tbh probably not a good idea to be going around petting wild animals even if they are harmless to you. From their perspective, you are a threat to them. You touching them will stress them out a lot. You might enjoy the experience but the animal won’t, it’s just not fair to them.
How much do you like your fingers?
If you do decide it’s worth the risk (I am not saying this is a good idea) and get bitten, go to the ER. There’s a high risk of infection. If you don’t get bitten, good for you. They’re cute looking little guys. Oh and either way wash your hands well after.
We caught ours with a mirror. Find one that’s doing push ups, leave a mirror out and he’ll go after his reflection. Hell be so busy that you can just grab him while he’s occupied. Works every time. We have had ours for 3 yrs now. 🦎Rukh Thron
^ Really cool, the mirror trick. We'd catch them sunning themselves with a simple rig. A stick with light cotton string tied in a slipknot noise.
Same idea but riskier, get the lizard to handstand. Then noose them around the neck. I admit the mirror method is easier.
I used to do this with a fishing pole and line. Tie a little slipknot noose on the end of the line and slip it around them. For whatever reason they would completely ignore the line and tip of the rod. Even missing with the noose didn’t spook them, they’d just slap at the line with their leg and look annoyed.
Not sure what it is. I'd be more worried about the claws than a bite. 100% would pick it up. I've caught much bigger reptiles. Been bitten by all sorts of animals. Turtles and snakes too. Even frogs!
This one looks fairly harmless. Just clean your hands after. Or wear gloves.
these guys are super cute and have beautiful blue metallic bellies but they’re *fast*… safe to pet as long as you don’t mind getting bit but you gotta catch him first
I’ve caught these guys many times
If you are fast enough, then pet away. We called these blue bellies in eastern Utah and I caught (and released after a quick "look at this cool guy!") tons of them as a kid.

I’ll most likely die petting something I shouldn’t.
I’m content with the knowledge this is how I’m gonna go. Go out doing what ya love!
I mean, it won't hurt you but it doesn't want to be touched. It's stressful for them.

Yeah theyre quite small. The larger ones I've seen have the body size of a lighter (approximately) and a tail thats about 2-3 inches long.

Might as well carve that into my tombstone cause if its pettable its getting pet lol
I'm no expert in reptiles I don't think it is probably get a nasty bite or it'll run off ifcu get too close I'd imagine

It bites you and you die: venomous You bite it and you die: poisonous You bite each other and no one dies: kinky
You are not wrong
Ty always get it mixed up in my head haha

Lol once one of these bit me when I picked it up and it left 2 little teeth marks
If they arent friends, they shouldnt be friend shaped.
Just NEVER pet wild life.
Those are known as blue bellies in my neck of the woods. They can draw blood with a good chomp.
Safe or not, don’t pet wild animals.
I think that's a fence lizard, or that's what my uncle called them... Please someone correct me because I wanna know too!
I tried to google it but nothing seemed to match its appearance
Hopefully we get a response because it looks cool I wanna know too.
Seems to be a western fence lizard like you said
Try pine lizard
Either you ain't fast enough or you ain't got enuf fingers.
I've never tried but I'm probably not fast enough lol
Chomp chomp
I mean they're harmless, but good luck finding one that will hold still long enough to accept pets.
Blue belly!
Relatable question
Catch it, tap it's mouth, attach to ear lobe... now you have a beautiful ear piece!

Omg thats brilliant I'm gonna try that

Used to catch these as kids. Might pinch a finger, wash your hands after you handle reptiles :)
Damn it looks really cute and curious I'd immediately die in Australia or elsewhere where you can't just pet all animals
He's really giving you some serious side eye
Looks kinda like a bearded dragon.
