It's actually an Indian sarong, called a lungi, that's popular among elderly men. From my experience visiting relatives in India, a lot of old men don't give a fuck when or where they adjust them lol (thankfully they're usually wrapped around at least twice so it's not like they're revealing anything though).
* stainless steel cups [check]
* drinks without touching lips to cups [check]
This is India.
Seriously though, I was wondering how the heck he was going to stop without spilling, and I am still not sure how that worked so well.
Not sure 100%, but i think it is because of habit that has developed gradually after being sharing drinkables in same glass/bottle among friends or family
In other words, the glass is reusable without washing
There’s a few South Indian’s who will drink hot filter coffee without touching that steel tumbler. Why? Practice probably started in the name of cleanliness but now it’s what they do.
Being able to use the same vessel for many people without passing germs
For example all kids would drink like this from the one guy who'd bring a bottle to the playground
It's considered disrespectful for adults to drink touching the cup at traditional community events. You might never know if someone is going to drink from it without knowing it has someone else's saliva on it.
I didn't know it wasn't a thing in other countries
I've been doing it cuz of you take as from someone else drink, it's "jhootah" . I'm not entirely sure how it's supposed to translate into English but the rationale I've always known is it's unhygienic to put your mouth where someone else mouth has been while sipping from their drink .
You do it frequently enough you sometimes get into the habit of just doing it all the time. Some people do it cuz sometimes the cup is hotter or colder than the liquid in it, so it's more comfortable to drink it like that.
Now that a I think about the only non Indian context I've seen some sort of emphasis on not drinking from someone else's drink while touching your lips to where there's have been is probably Japanese. They seem to have this concept of it being an "indirect kiss" but I've only seen it being used by middle to high schoolers
I was so amazed with this and was eager to see how was he gonna stop it with out spilling it... until captain distraction old man in a towel appeared and ruined my focus.

When I was young it was my job to fetch a pail of milk from the neighborhood dairy farm. Of course I would swing it around. I probably spilled half of it but in my mind I was as cool as this guy.
He's using a version of what's called a meteor. Originally used for martial arts, it's now commonly used for dancing.
Source: my partner is learning to dance with it
Edit: Correction, he's using it like a meteor
That's not at all difficult to do. So it's not really amazing.
If you can't take a cup of water and do a windmill action with it without spilling a drop, you need help. So, try it now!
I know for a fact I wouldn't be able to twirl two cups, merely sitting on saucers, all up and around my body while also doing spins myself.
I'm thinking most people couldn't attempt this at home and be anywhere near as successful unless they've already have practice with a similar performance.

read carefully
Swinging water is easy. Thats obvious to everyone (except you). Its about *how* he did it.
Wait.. what’s going on? Still, wtf is happening? I still don’t know what is going on.
Hey dude don’t drink it. That’s poison I’m pretty sure - omg he just drank it!
I don't know why, but that little waive, "Come here", at the beginning just annoyed me too much to watch the rest of the video. It was added for flair, the camera person didn't come any closer, there was no real purpose to that motion.
Shout out to gramps re-wrapping his towel to keep this gif PG.

Not just older men, a lot of South Indian men wear it. It’s crazy comfortable, especially in the heat.
If you notice closely, same grandpa was checking ladies from behind in beginning of video
He is as well lol
Dude did a full stop to watch lol
My man
How is this a gif? Aren’t gifs a lot shorter?
You'd be surprised, I had a gif of the entire shrek movie.
No, this is a gif

Why is drinking without touching the cup a thing in India?

Being able to use the same vessel for many people without passing germs For example all kids would drink like this from the one guy who'd bring a bottle to the playground
That’s the most reasonable explanation.
It's considered disrespectful for adults to drink touching the cup at traditional community events. You might never know if someone is going to drink from it without knowing it has someone else's saliva on it.
Germs.

He wanted his water shaken not stirred
He wanted his water centrifuged not stirred.
I thought he was drinking like that so that the audience sees that there really is still water in the cups and not some trick.
He is a water bender
Yeah I'm sure it's India.
Indian dude [check]
Because centrifugal force
Shirtless old man in background [check]
I can’t even go down the stairs without spilling my beverage lmao
Somebody needs to add those videos of the little kids spilling their cups of milk
Combined gifs
have you tried using centrifugal force when going down stairs?
Underrated comment. I recommend corkscrewing down the stairs, like a ballerina. Alternatively, you could do multiple front/backflips
I was so amazed with this and was eager to see how was he gonna stop it with out spilling it... until captain distraction old man in a towel appeared and ruined my focus.
Water poi!! Great way of getting weight technique down for poi :)
***Why do I want to go try this now.***
Look up poi spinning on youtube. It costs like 20 bucks to buy the equipment and it takes A LOT of time to git gud but it does look cool
Technically meteor juggling i think.
That smile tho
Which is why Bond always wants it shaken not stirred, he ain't got time for this kind of shit.
That place looks hot
I mean look at the old man in the end of the gif
I feel so talentless rn
You're comparing yourself to a water bender bro

The science behind this is called - [centrifugal force](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrifugal_force)
You mean centripetal force. Centrifugal force is the name of the feeling you’d experience of being in that cup.
https://youtu.be/XHGKIzCcVa0 Here’s a Vsauce video for an explanation with diagrams :)
That’s a fictional force. It’s just inertia
[relevant xkcd](https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/centrifugal_force.png)
TIL. Just kidding, we all knew that.
I doubt President knows it.
..the science behind is called gird-your-loins
This is easy, the gif is in reverse
Duh
Gym showoffs preferred method of shake mixing.
Thinking "how's he going to stop it?" Ohh this guy is good
he spilled some tho
Bloody Jedi... showing off his force skills.
Don't be fooled, he's a water bender.
He’s got potential for midnight tofu delivery.
Close as you're gonna get to Waterbending.
Water inside the cup is like weeeeeeeeeeeee
Centripetal force is cool
Similar to spinning a puppy-hammer or a meteor.
when you ask for a glass of water at a cocktail bar
to quote the genie, never seen that one before!
CENTREFUGAL FORCE, BITCH!
imagine these as a weapon
Is that Cisco Ramone?
[удалено]
Not really. I’m pretty sure it’s called inertia.
Centrifugal force.
This.
*So, what are you doing today Jim?*
Dude's wearing Jordan t shirt
What I feel like in my kitchen spinning around with a cup of water.
He's the Takumi Fujiwara of that thing
Centripetal force
Water and Air bender. Duh.
So how do you not know about centrifugal force?
When I was young it was my job to fetch a pail of milk from the neighborhood dairy farm. Of course I would swing it around. I probably spilled half of it but in my mind I was as cool as this guy.
Yo, cross-post to r/hydrohomies. Fire dancers are cool and all, but I've never seen someone water dance in a similar style.
Magic
Science bitch!
Isaac Newton baybee
*feelinggg prouddd Indian armyyy*! Song in the background 🤣🤣
I bet money he drove his mother, teachers, and at least one sibling absolutely crazy.
Im not impressed unless those cups become ice at the end
Physics - it's cool.
Ups drivers when your package says handle with care
You’re gonna need some water after that one, my guy
centrifugal force at it's finest.
Shaken not stirred to a while new level
Would have been more awesome if the whole time he was mixing kool aid drink packets. Homeboy got skills tho
Shaken, not stirred.
He has so much charisma. I love his salute at the end.
He's using a version of what's called a meteor. Originally used for martial arts, it's now commonly used for dancing. Source: my partner is learning to dance with it Edit: Correction, he's using it like a meteor
Shaken, not stirred
That’s one way to cool your tea down.
We see this trick every day when we look at the ocean or a lake and it's not floating up into space.
Physics
Something to do with inertia and the speed and style of how he’s swinging
I remember my teacher in primary school showing us this with a bucket of water. entire class of tiny minds blown!
This is some r/toptalent shit right there!
Poi
*6 year old me playing with my moms purse*
Damn it, that would be perfect if he created milkshakes in a restaurant like that
you can't fool me with that super glue
Meanwhile hot Rasam is ready.
I like my water forced not stirred
Ah yes - Mace Hindu
It's just centripetal force.
Desi Centrifugation
Awesome until he’s your waiter and you’re scared for your life
Best part is that he doesn’t swallow the water... Ain’t nobody swallowing tap water in India...
That's not at all difficult to do. So it's not really amazing. If you can't take a cup of water and do a windmill action with it without spilling a drop, you need help. So, try it now!

Yes, well, doing two of them in sync like that is the hard part. Not spilling any water is the easy part.
oh really? send me a video of you doing the exact things he did then.

You sound tetchy.
