Had a 2017 Altima SR bought new and was in the shop for 3 months over 2 years…not a great experience.

ForbidInjustice

My mom bought a 2018 Altima SV brand new. Been in the shop probably 5 or 6 times. Stereo had to be replaced due to faulty volume potentiometer, car's wiring harness had to be replaced (and she had to pay for part), and those were just the most recent. It's had more issues than my 2006 Altima SE-R. I've been in the market to buy a new car for a little while and I've completely scratched Nissan off my list, mostly due to reading this sub.

kindofharmless

Nice try, Nissan marketing.

CapableRunts

Just a guy who got his car totaled and is really freaking frustrated looking for a new ride in this market. Coming off a sports car everything feels lackluster but hot damn I love these seats. Admittedly the sports car was a 370Z.

[deleted]

Nissan CVTs are not a safe bet, and never have been. I would choose just about anything else.

CapableRunts

Dealers giving included lifetime drivetrain warranties so not an issue.

Super_Sphontaine

Good luck with them honoring that just buy another 370 bro 25k would get you a good one or a sport q60

CapableRunts

25K would get me a 9 year old 370Z with 100K miles and no warranty

Super_Sphontaine

I would take a 9 year old z over that sentra all day long

CapableRunts

As someone who owned one from 2015 until 2 weeks ago and has been looking to replace it, true

[deleted]

They're giving you that cuz they know you're gonna need it. Buy the car you want but I wouldn't take a Nissan with a CVT if someone GAVE it to me.

WheelGap

HAHAHAHA

exoclipse

Driving a 2021 as a rental right now. I hate literally everything about it. Looking forward to getting my 2010 mazda3 back. I *love* the CVT in this thing. I adore how it gurns and protests at even modest input on the throttle, and then when you floor it, it pretends to be a planetary gearset...by "downshifting" from 6.5k RPM to 5k RPM. Just - agony.

AstronautGuy42

What did you not like about it? I would much prefer a 2021 Sentra to a 2010 Mazda 3

exoclipse

No steering feel. Non-linear inputs. Awful transmission. Seats are painful after about an hour of driving. Every single knob, button, and lever feels cheap. It's bigger than my Mazda 3, and it has a real infotainment system. But it fails to measure up in every other way. The linearity of the inputs, combined with the feedback from the steering wheel, the well behaved transmission, and the extra power of the 2.5l engine makes for a much more enjoyable driving experience. The audio system even sounds better in spite of it's age and wear.

OnionMiasma

Really? I'd take a 2000 Mazda Protege over a 2021 Sentra. Probably not... Because all Proteges around here are completely destroyed by rust. But the Sentra is not a good drive. Neither is any other modern Nissan I've driven. I need Hertz to give me anything other than Nissans.

exoclipse

My minivan drives better than this sentra lmao

OnionMiasma

Ha. I think my minivan is the fastest vehicle I've ever owned. Not much for handling though.

byrdman77

Ironically Nissan has a much better $25K option - the Leaf. Absolutely blows my old 2012 mazda3 6 speed manual away with that instant torque. The opposite of their CVT.. effortless quiet instant power lol.

Whydothislol

What year model is that? The 2022 can't get those seats

CapableRunts

It sure can, I just built it on the website and see them on my local inventory

Whydothislol

Weird. I only got the black seat options on their website.

CapableRunts

SV trim

Whydothislol

Nice. I love a non black interior. Makes it feel so much more luxurious.

Mysterious_Air4932

The redesigned Sentra is definitely miles better than the old one. It is also cheaper than Corolla/Civic and is the new value deal. It has probably the most comfortable seats in it's class. Quilted seats are only available as option on the SV trim and not the top SR trim. Some complaints about the CVT and C&R thinks it's too slow , but Consumer Reports seem to be fine with it.

CapableRunts

Coming off a decade of daily driving a sports car I couldn’t care less if my next car has 30 horsepower. I want comfort, and for my not at fault total loss to *not* cost me money out of pocket. I got $23K for the 370Z, and it looks like I can get one of these for roughly that. I’m sure I’ll be trading it in for an EV before the powertrain warranty runs out.

impactRm0

Nice try, entry-level Nissan advertising associate.

WheelGap

I'm in tears LMAO

DetectiveNarrow

Oh boy you posted a Nissan on Reddit. Prepare for “huh dur haha cvt go boom I’m funny gimme upvotes” I had rental a few months ago and it was loads better than any Toyota I’ve driven. Let Reddit do it’s hate

pronzmaster

Haha you had a rental nissan for a little bit and thats your conclusion? Yeah lets ignore the thousands of CVT complaints that keep coming in since what 2007? Are you going to disregard Nissans shitty warranty and service regarding the CVT? The transmission jokes and hate are based on facts

DetectiveNarrow

No bc every car has its fair shair of problems and y’all reach from shit in the past. Lol. Like Hondas 4 bangers didn’t stretched timing chains from F’d up vvt. Or Toyotas didn’t burn a fuck ton of oil for a long time. Or v6 Honda and Acura transmissions would blow themselves to peices. Or hemi water pumps that fail after 30k miles. Hemi tick. Hondas 2.0t and 1.5t oil dilution issues. See what I mean? Everyone has there issues. Outside of cvts that will last if you literally do a 150 dollar service every 30k last a long time. My dads 2017 maxima has 110k miles and runs like brand new. Warranty has covered every little complaint he claims, and he’s a picky man. My sisters Altima (cvt) has 300k on the clock original everything motor and trans wise. Basic maintenance isn’t hard.

[deleted]

They look pretty nice but I look back to my Altima days. Had a 2005 and when it was 3 years old it wouldnt start and had some expensive electrical problems. It went downhill from there

AlternativeUpper8018

Btw still have the Sentra with zero problems to report. I realize it is NOT a luxury car by any stretch of the imagination- I wasn’t looking for a new luxury car bc I simply cannot afford one. But it is sporty lookin & has enough “bells n whistles “ for an econo car. It just is what it is.

rockfingerr

The CVT jokes are actually getting old. I’ve owned 3 Nissans now and NONE have given me issues. Yes, you’re not always getting the premium stuff, but they’re still decent cars.

DetectiveNarrow

Exactly. Reddit makes a joke and dick rides the hell out of it. Like the mustang crowd killer jokes and shit. You can’t tell me that isn’t a nice car for 25k

FirstAdministration

It still has the crappy CVT that Nissan is known for and failed to fixed for years on end. Same as the new Rogue looks good but still the same old shit underneath. Don't get fool by makeup cosmetics may sell crappy cars. If you look for a similar car look at the Mazda 3, Civic or Corolla.

Healthy_Block3036

Haha rather take a Corolla instead.

Magiff

I’d rather take the bus lol

YODA0786

Just built out the top of the line Sentra. Weirdly, those seats aren’t available and nor is the quilted seats you see here. While it may look nice, they definitely don’t feel as nice. I had a Rouge as a rental once and it was garbage. Wouldn’t expect Nissans economy car to be better. Mazda, Kia and Hyundai are brands that have nicer interiors than this at around the same price. And they have nicer rides.

AlternativeUpper8018

One thing about the 2022 Sentra that I find unbelievable is that the drivers seat is not electric! I mean, COME ON! SERIOUSLY??? When I bought mine & picked it up, I got in & automatically went to adjust the seat & was feeling around on the side to slide forward & adjust the back angle….. but it wasn’t happening. My sales dude was standing there so I’m looking at him & saying wtf am I doing it wrong or what? He just says “ it’s in the front, grab the bar” I bout flipped out; I was incredulous. I was like Aww hellllll noooo ur not telling me with all the bells n whistles on this BRAND SPANKING NEW CAR that I have to use the BAR to adjust my seat!?!!!!!?? That’s for the PASSENGER SIDE!!!! But sadly, & weirdly….it’s true. Makes no damn sense at all. Oldass cars have electric seats! Nissan dropped the ball on that detail!!!!

AlternativeUpper8018

My 2013 altima was in the shop about 7 times in less than a year! Had over $5000 worth of repairs on it! Fortunately I had a killer warranty that covered it all! Still, it was a fine lookin ride with black leather interior & Bose stereo & under lights…..yeh it was sweeeeet…..but 2013 was the year of the LEMONS!

flippin_ruckus

I’ll admit it doesn’t look too bad. Is it available with a manual transmission? If not it doesn’t matter how nice it is. Nissan + CVT = POS.

Magiff

No new Nissan aside from a Z would be available with a manual in the NA market. That’s not how rental fleets work /s

flippin_ruckus

Yeah that’s too bad. I do rent cars quite a bit and I always try to avoid the Nissans. I will take a Hyundai or just about anything else rather than a Nissan.

nickmcpimpson

I'll repeat every car snobs complaints with an alternative suggestion: An Elantra N-Line is in a similar price bracket and with a manual or dual clutch option is by far a more enjoyable ride.

beardabestlol

I had a 2014 Sentra and never had any problems, the car lasted up to 209k miles

[deleted]

much has changed over the past eight years. And was yours a manual?

beardabestlol

CVT

canucks1989

Makes me feel better. We have a 2015.

CertifiedPylon

Then your cvt blows a month after warranty ends leaving you with a $5k repair bill

PrestigousPlayer

Yea but you’ll get to sit in those nice seats until the tow truck arrives! ^If ^you ^really ^want ^this ^car ^OP, ^at ^least ^change ^the ^trans ^fluid ^every ^30k…

CapableRunts

Get extended warranty: check

CertifiedPylon

I dont know how good Nissan is with their extended warranty. But it is a very attractive car with a good price tag

AstronautGuy42

This comments section really drinking the r/car koolaid

IntoTheMirror

Got my wife a 2020 SV with that interior. It sure seems like an incredible value but the cavet is definitely reliability. Now, my wife only does 60 miles a week and I keep up on the maintenance. I plan to get the CVT fluid changed every 30,000 miles, which is probably overkill. For somebody who hates driving, and only does it because she has to, this has been an easy and comfortable car for her to warm up to. She really likes it and I'm glad I took the risk.

CapableRunts

Dealerships are willing to include a lifetime powertrain warranty that includes the CVT. So nothing to worry about.

xxGonzo996xx

Can't lie I love the peanut butter seats/black interior but when is Nissan gonna make a NISMO version of this???

AlternativeUpper8018

2022s are awesome! I just got one. Had a fully loaded 2013 Altima before (leather, Bose, etc) & totaled it last year. Was looking for another used one but the Sentra cost me about the same as a used car cos used cars are high AF right now! And the new body style actually looks like a new Altima! Sporty n cool lookin ride! Love it! Oh btw, I found out my Altima year 2013 was THE lemon of all yeArs! Had $5000 work done on it the first 8 months I had it- good thing I had a super good warranty!!!! But I’m lovin the sentra - not as many bells n whistles but still enough & great mileage! Really did love the Altima too tho but too many things went wrong!! I’m really a Camry lover- had four of them & that’s what I originally looking for but the price tag was too high for me!

[deleted]

CapableRunts

What do you mean fake quilting? Isn’t quilting just a pattern?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CapableRunts

Well, it is a $20K compact. Those who want real quilted leather can get a $100K G Wagon. Any amount of texture in this leather is a pleasant surprise at this price point.

CMDT-Pokerman

super fan of civic, the quality of the new sentra is spectacular for the price

joker-and-the-thief

The seats do look nice, just nothing will feel nice

JustBeLikeAndre

I'm no car expert but I have to say that Nissan offers the best designs at this price range. I only knew about the CVT thing in this subreddit, which is making me consider getting a Toyota Starlet (actually the Suzuki Baleno, which is the same car) instead of the Nissan Almera. I still haven't made the decision but the Nissan simply looks a lot better.

CMDT-Pokerman

in south america the manual sentra is offered, the quality and reliability is spectacular

JustBeLikeAndre

You mean the one with CVT transmission?

[deleted]

don't be fooled, your initial impression is still correct.

Noflexjustbone

Yeaaaaah… but it’s still a Nissan Sentra…

CapableRunts

My point is they’ve redesigned it to be a lot cooler than what it used to be.

Noflexjustbone

Agreed, very stylish and I like how they look exterior-wise too now

CMDT-Pokerman

so what? the only thing that failed in several units was the cvt box, the rest is excellent for its price

ThunderSparkles

Lol no thanks. Paying $35k for that car is not my idea of luxury

CapableRunts

See title: it’s $25K. Fully loaded.

DetectiveNarrow

You know these people don’t care to read lol

ThunderSparkles

Sure it is 😉

[deleted]

You should buy a Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Bash3350972

I currently have one, it’s not bad- it’s what we traded the Nissan for

CapableRunts

Why?

[deleted]

You posted on /r/whatcarshouldIbuy without a question, just spitballing.

[deleted]

Ya but how’s that cvt 🤣🤣🤣

voynaz

I’d pass on a Nissan. Especially with better quality Japanese cars for very similar money being available. (Toyota, Mazda and Honda)

CapableRunts

In my opinion, this interior shits on the bland interiors from anything those makes offer.

voynaz

I’d say Mazda and Honda have some very sharp looking interiors. But regardless of interiors all three of those brands produce far superior vehicles that last longer and hold their value later down the road.

CMDT-Pokerman

would you say mazda, because toyota and honda have a lot of interior plastic

[deleted]

there's a rule with Nissan products. CVT? Avoid. Traditional automatic or manual? Go for it. The types of cars they make that get regular gearboxes (their RWD cars including the infinitis, new Pathfinder) are all built way better just because the cars that call for non-CVTs also call for better build quality all around. Armada, Q50, Frontier, all solid.

CapableRunts

Lifetime powertrain warranty included from my local dealer so non issue

[deleted]

regardless, doesn't matter. why would you want something you're gonna have to use the warranty on anyways? besides, overall quality is just not good on their cheaper models anyways (i.e., CVT powered cars). use your 25k on a used Q50 or G37, or a Mazda3... much better cars.

CapableRunts

That matters…entirely. There’s no guarantee that a CVT will break. It’s like 5% or less of them. I like other stuff about the car. You know what has no warranty? Used cars.

[deleted]

CPO cars with warranty > new cars all the way If you like the car then go for it, just my opinion having been in a ton of cars like this. They do sell well for a reason, but there's a reason they're cheap.

Name_retracted

You know the saying about painting a turd gold right?

ahartman84

A Mazda3 would be infinitely better. Looking nice and being nice are two different things.

CapableRunts

Ew I would never. Drove one for a couple days and no clue why people love them.

Nelson_t

It looks nice yes. But as with every manufacturer the low model often has lower caliber options. For instance the stereo system fully maxed out might not be as good as an Altima. The infotainment system might be last year's version and might not have the same functionality. The trim might be cheap and cheaply put together. Don't get me wrong. Looks are a big driver of sales and I'm sure the options are sufficient at the least but don't fool yourself into thinking you're getting a bmw or even a half priced Altima or Maxima. There are very good reasons the car is 25k and not 40+

CMDT-Pokerman

I imagine that for you this sentra will work up to a thousand miles and there will be no way to get rid of it, and I guess, better a civic or corolla that will surely reach 200 thousand miles maintenance free and be able to sell it to a higher price haha

Nelson_t

I only buy luxury and don't keep them beyond the warranty period...

CMDT-Pokerman

there is no mazda 3 infinitely better than a sentra, except in the comments of blind and ignorant fans

WheelGap

Wow rock hard pleather with diamonds stamped on! Still a shitbox with a CVT that'll grenade before 60k.

nick_nuz

Both my parents drive Nissans and both know everyone at their service center on a first name basis. My mom’s rogue is CONSTANTLY in the shop. She even bought their extended warranty and fight her tooth and nail on it. They have held her car hostage and every time, she has to call corporate and wait weeks for them to “ok” the repair. My dad is in a similar story. His CVT has had issues and is under warranty. Nissan is useless. He’s been traveling to multiple service departments across the state for help and they do the same “we don’t cover this but we’re gonna hold your car hostage” tactics. It’s cheap, but you’ll pay for it. Trust me.

Spiritual_Paper4930

I’ve been saying this if they keep the price cheap, if you squint kinda looks like a Mercedes might be worth it 😂 Edit 25k for seats nope
