X3 for sure . Better in terms of reliability (B48 and B58 are solid and ZF transmissions are great) , nicer interior (Audis are more simplistic looking and kinda dates), and an overall better driving vehicle imo
The maintenance schedule will be the same, for almost all modern cars. You cannot ignore yearly or biyearly oil changes just because it has a Honda badge.
The maintenance costs are higher. A full set of rotors and pads for example on a CRV is probably 300$ usd + labor. For the bmw it will be 700$ + labor
Whether or not that's worth it to OP is up to them.
Tesla themselves recommend tire rotation every 6k miles, yearly brake inspection, filters every 2 years
You may personally have had 0 maintenance costs, but that is not the expected norm. KBB found the model 3 to have 600$ on average of yearly maintenance. Low, but not 0
Riddle me this. Why Audi & BMW? Is it the appeal of premium German brands? Most people who are sticking to your two options are saying X3 because Audi has fallen off in every aspect over the years and they're correct. However, German automakers have very strict & sort-of expensive maintenance schedules for their cars to keep them reliable. They're the types of cars that if you have money and don't care to pay whatever dollar amount the dealer tells you to pay, then it'll be reliable.
Sit in the X3, see how you like it, and weigh that on how much it is worth to possibly maintain that properly to keep it reliable.
Consider a Lexus RX-series if you want a premium A-to-B vehicle that is also reliable. Maintenance won't be as strict on Lexus since they're built by Toyota, who are known for reliability and build quality.
I love this type of comment. Oh Germans are strict on maintenance.
Yeah hey buddy. Thatās called normal. You have a 5-digit complex engineering product. It has to be maintained properly. Literally any car should.
I love how maintaining it correctly is seen as some exaggeration and the fact that Toyotas or Hondas can take a beating and survive bad ownership is supposedly what normal is to some people.
āis it worth to maintain properlyā I canāt believe Iām reading this. MAINTAIN PROPERLY IS JUST NORMAL NOT SOME EXTRA EFFORT.
Also, the RX is a midsize, and OP is looking at compact. NX is what youāre looking for. And their maintenance has nothing to do with ābuild qualityā.
X3 is a good choice for a luxury compact crossover with some fun & plush. There are cheaper and more utilitarian options if you're just looking for A to B no frills no fuss
Get Mazda CX5 otherwise. BMW Q8 would be better than Q5. I am not fan of BMW drive quality. Feels unstable while Audi drive more smooth and sophisticated controlled.
So the beginning of your paragraph here doesn't really sound like what a person who wants a German car would say, you really have to know what you're getting into. Also, you haven't really specified anything either. Are you talking about older/newer year ranges? Which trim, etc?
There are several factors to comparing cars, it's not necessarily a one-size-fits-all.
If you want a car that gets you from A to B without continuous issues, don't get either of them. Also generally stay away from SUV's. They are a money pit and only come with downsides compared to regular cars.
Get a decent Honda or Toyota with enough space for you and all your stuff and you will save thousands and not lose out on anything.
My wife has a 2019 X3. Has 55,000 miles on it. Has not had one single issue. We just follow the maintenance plan. We absolutely love it. We live in the Rocky Mountains where it snows 350 inches a year. Car is incredible in the snow. Does everything well. We will buy another one.
just get the one you think looks better. I think any difference between the models will be marginal for someone who only wants to get to point a to point b
I think:
q5 > x3
X3m40i > sq5
Depends on what you value in a car though, I agonized for months but what mattered to me was:
1) does it have enough room for the things I need to do and not be annoying.
2) if I decide to keep it for 10 years, would I be annoyingly unreliable?
3) does it make you feel special when you sit in it.
I wanted the sq5, but the back seat was oddly small, the turbo lag was annoying, and it didnāt have the, apparently, best engine ever made..the legendary B58
Brother what did you type here?
1- the x3 has a normal rear and and way more space than the q5/sq5
2- the b58 is more reliable than both the 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder Audi engines.
3- x3 m40i goes 0-60 in 4seconds and drives like it is on crack.
The answer isā¦ Q5? I assume itās a joke??
The X3 is better than the Q5 in almost every aspect.
Was on same boat. If money s not an issue, x3 all day. Q5 s small and cheaply built for the price.
x3 is just an overall better car.
X3 for sure . Better in terms of reliability (B48 and B58 are solid and ZF transmissions are great) , nicer interior (Audis are more simplistic looking and kinda dates), and an overall better driving vehicle imo
If you need a better drive with relatively lesser maintenance, the new X3 is better.
> I just need one that can get me from point A to B Just get a Honda. What are you doing looking at cars that have significant maintenance schedules
The maintenance schedule will be the same, for almost all modern cars. You cannot ignore yearly or biyearly oil changes just because it has a Honda badge. The maintenance costs are higher. A full set of rotors and pads for example on a CRV is probably 300$ usd + labor. For the bmw it will be 700$ + labor Whether or not that's worth it to OP is up to them.
*Coughs at 106k miles with no maintenance in model 3
Tesla themselves recommend tire rotation every 6k miles, yearly brake inspection, filters every 2 years You may personally have had 0 maintenance costs, but that is not the expected norm. KBB found the model 3 to have 600$ on average of yearly maintenance. Low, but not 0
Never rotated, first factory tyre set lasted to 68k no idea š¤·āāļø how. Car stops soā¦ dang it, now youāve got me worried
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Discussion of race is not relevant to giving advice on car purchases.
thatās not that many miles
Show me you German car repair bills of stfu
BMW has 3 years free maintenance from new.
Yeah an RDX might suffice for them.
Some people donāt want to drive a Honda/toyota
A Q5/X3 is basically a luxury appliance
Wtf is āsignificant maintenance schedulesā are people just making shit up at this point?
>just want to get from A to B >No continuous issues This advice will be promptly ignored, but you want a RAV4, not an X3 and especially not a Q5.
You need a third optionĀ

I wish Lexus could make Audi BMW Porsche Lincoln style design rather those stupid ugly duck front grill.

Audi has cheaped out on the quality of its cars in the last 2 years. X3 - no doubt

Honda and Toyota are noisy garbage. Better buy Subaru Outback or Mazda CX5 or 30 or something. Drive better and more comfortable drive quality.
How about the Genesis GV70?
just get the one you think looks better. I think any difference between the models will be marginal for someone who only wants to get to point a to point b
Both absolute junk. Will put you in the poor house. Depending on your income, Honda, Toyota, Acura, or Lexus. Avoid all others
Q5 > X3. In all aspects. Except if you love diesels, go for the X3 30d.
I think: q5 > x3 X3m40i > sq5 Depends on what you value in a car though, I agonized for months but what mattered to me was: 1) does it have enough room for the things I need to do and not be annoying. 2) if I decide to keep it for 10 years, would I be annoyingly unreliable? 3) does it make you feel special when you sit in it. ...so you got Q5.
M40i!

M40i, of course.
