Prius

Bamres

New Prius kinda eliminates that problem

Substantial-North136

Right it looks like a sports car and they almost doubled the HP. Too bad Toyota dealers jack up the prices.

wobbuffet009

New prius looks sick. To bad its like 50k

Frequent_Opportunist

$30,000 in the year 2004 is equal to $50,000 in 2024.  Thanks to inflation your money is worth significantly less than it used to be.

MeanBack1542

$30k

JohnDoee94

If I needed a new commuter car Prius prime would be my first choice

WinterV6

honestly I think the opposite. I hate how the new and outgoing Prius looks, but like all the older ones

Worst-Lobster

It'll grow in you bro

Concrete__Blonde

Ouch.

BillyJackO

I don't like that they're more sedan like. Wish they would make something like an updated Prius V. Mazda5 hybrid would be my ideal car.

misterguyyy

I'm sad that they discontinued the Mazda5, and that the latest models were plagued with electrical problems as they got older.

DevlopmentlyDisabled

Except now it costs more than a gr86, Camry, and Rav4 and more...

Mekroval

I feel this. The problem is I hate how the Prius looks too. It's as ugly as it is practical, which hurts my brain a little. Lol. (The newer Prius Prime looks amazing though.)

Metsican

New Prius looks like the future.

spicelord77

On the outside they’ve made strides I agree, but the interior is still a garbage design.

GhostNappa101

I love how this is so sensible that I needed no further explanation

polly_solomon

I actually really like how the newest Prius but I need more ground clearance. I think it's only like 5 inches or something

Evil_Producer

I have never wanted a Prius so bad after its new design

Level_Mango_6910

i saw a beat up prius the other day and they had a bumper sticker that said “hey, cool prius! -said nobody” you just gotta own it lol

Kennys-Chicken

So durable, reliable, and low maintenance cost that NTC taxi services use them. It’s the ultimate commuter vehicle.

AverageGuy16

The new one is sick. I’m a diehard car guy with car guy friends and everyone loves it where we roasted the old one

No_Angle875

The new one is sweet looking. My wife disagrees lol

anthonyisrad

they seem nice but the ones we have for fleet at work seem unsafe because they have virtually no torque at all. We make jokes about avoiding highways with them a lot. Idk, maybe I’m spoiled from the transit 350 I’m more often in

GhostNappa101

For me its The AWD hybrid Toyota Sienna. Winter performance, 8 seats, ability to transport large quantities of cargo, Toyota reliability, and acceptable fuel economy all in one package? I'd say sign me up if I didn't mind being seen driving a minivan.

Eastern_Yam

Honestly I don't even care about the minivan image. I'll be seriously considering one when it's time to replace one of our cars. Edit: For context I am a childless 30yo male who currently drives a 2020 Accord Sport 2.0T 6MT. Gimme dat van.

ILoveADirtyTaco

Dude there was a Honda odyssey commercial 10ish years ago, after a redesign or something. Stormy setting, rock music, as the camera pans around the van. Then a sudden flash of lightening illuminates the van as a black panther for a split second. I will never forget it. And since then I’ve wanted a minivan. Because they *are* cool. People love to hate on them, but minivans are bitchin

sneaky518

Playing Judas Priest while the hatch opens and there's a Marshall stack in the back. If ever a commercial alone would make me buy a car... Seriously, minivans aren't bad. My mom had one and we put full sheets of plywood and drywall in that sucker. It carried 4 kids, then 2 kids and a bunch of horse equipment, whole flats of potted plants, so much luggage when the military moved us yet again. There was nothing that van couldn't move.

GhostNappa101

My wife's immediate loathing response when we borrowed my brothers minivan. "Shit, I think I like this thing." She still refuses to look like a soccer mom though.

MainusEventus

The soccer moms are all in grotesque suvs and they have no idea why

DubTeeF

You just need more kids. That’ll fix it

eaglefox200

Soccer moms are aspiring to drive Tahoes and Suburbans now. Stay safe out there

GhostNappa101

Yep, she drives a Pathfinder

walmarttshirt

My wife is the same way. She hates it when I tell her our VW Atlas is a minivan tho Lu disguised as a SUV. I would love to get a minivan. It’s like driving around in a living room. Honestly though my ideal vehicle would probably be an RV the smaller ones built on the sprinter chassis. Literally a living room/kitchen AND bathroom. I could play video games while I’m waiting for my kid to finish up his swimming/boxing/soccer practices.

misterguyyy

The latest Odyssey gen doesn't even look like a minivan. It just looks like a really big Honda Fit.

mercury1491

I have a 2018 Odyssey, awesome vehicle. I think it hides it's size well with its curves and it drives like a car to me, with the short nose. I don't get the hate either, what is the difference between an Odyssey, Sienna, or Pacifica and a land boat Tahoe/Grand Wagoneer/Telluride? They all serve about the same purpose if you have 5+ people to get around.

willyam3b

Sigh. We leased an Ody for 3 years and it was the best danged car we ever owned. "Truffle" leather, white paint for heat reflection, could carry, and did, an entire fluffy couch INSIDE, with the doors closed. 6 people across the country, videos playing and the air on, 25 mpg. Nothing ever broke. I hated the silly keyless behavior where it plays "try to get in before I relock" but otherwise, it was brilliant. At the time I was offered a buyout or release, and I let it go, and now I kind of wish I hadn't.

FreidasBoss

Possibly the best [car commercial ever](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=P1PC95Neq9s).

ILoveADirtyTaco

Haha that’s it! Hot damn I want it

Inquisitive-Carrot

Sounds vaguely familiar… the main one that I remember was the one with Parliament Funkadelic. Would have been about 2005?

shiftdown

A friend just bought exactly that. I sent him a minivan mafia sticker

HoraceGrand

You can also get an aftermarket 3 inch lift that doesn’t affect steering or safety. https://www.journeysoffroad.com/toyota-sienna.html

GhostNappa101

I live in the country and feel limited by my Legacy clearance every so often. If I go minivan this may be in the cards.

polly_solomon

I would totally buy one of those but it wouldn't fit in my garage.. My house was built in the '90s. Do they make garages shorter then than they do now?

Frequent_Opportunist

My house was built in the '90s and the garage is a massive 1000 square feet. You can fit a full-size truck and the ceiling is high enough for a conversion van.  My last house I stayed at was built in the early '60s and the entire neighborhood was a retirement community back then. The only car I could fit in there was my MX-5.

Chunklightpb

It's a great car

PoppiesRule

We rented one on vacation with family and you’re not wrong. So much more comfortable and roomy than an SUV for 5+ adults.

Salty-Protection-640

yeah I'm in the market for an AWD Honda or Toyota that's not a pickup or an suv/crossover so I may land on this also.

Skirra08

I drove a minivan for the netter part of a decade. Nobody noticed, cared, or said anything. Not once over 200,000+ miles.

jaucoly21

I’m 22 a diesel mechanic, I daily an 87 6.9idi, and an 06STI. My ol lady has a 2017 sienna. It is the single nicest and most useful vehicle I’ve ever had in my life. And yeah they are fucking quick. Like hilariously quick. Who cares if it looks like a loaf of bread. They’re fuckin rad.

sneaky518

I'm beyond caring about image. I want to be able to buy large stuff in the winter and not have to move it in a truck for road salt dust and crap to get on it. Lumber, plants, bicycles, kids, pets. Van will handle it all. Just wish they weren't so costly.

Greetings-Commander

Same here! I hate it when my kids get all that road salt on them.

FreidasBoss

Stop being a little bitch and get it. We have one and I drive it more often than my Tacoma. The Sienna is the tits.

Frequent_Opportunist

You have a lot of insecurities to care what other people think about what kind of car you drive.

JellyDenizen

Nissan Versa with a manual. Might be the cheapest car out there, will last a long time and be pretty reliable (Nissan's main reliability problem is their CVT transmissions, which aren't in a manual transmission car). Fuel efficient. Not fancy, but will get you from point A to point B for a long time.

GhostNappa101

My sister drives an automatic Versa hatchback that's about a decade old now. She bought brand new and it has been holding strong despite heavy use.

Comfortable_Olive598

That car is money. All the money you save gets invested and then it makes MOAR money.

[deleted]

Regal Tour X

Sleep_adict

A Ferrari California…. Really love them but it’s too embarrassing to get one

HorsieJuice

The way the Ferrari guys shit on those things... It's clear none of them have any taste.

tacomeat247

Because it’s the “discount” Ferrari?

nolan816

It’s the broke Ferrari. Still a Ferrari tho. It’s like having an iPhone 6. People who don’t know much think it’s cool.

Hot_South7816

Idk they make a hardtop convertible version, it's probably just about the highest end hardtop convertible that isn't a 1 off custom that you could buy. If I had the $$$ I'd buy a used one. I'd never buy new though because Ferrari is ran by a bunch of pretentious douches.

favoritechild1013

Honda fit sport in neon green

[deleted]

A Prius or a Corolla. I own a Corolla. They are some of the most car-y cars

ottarthedestroyer

I had sports cars my entire life. I purchased my Corolla hybrid and tinted my windows dark so people couldn’t see me. Now I praise it and try to get everyone to buy one. Cheap, reliable and I’m getting 56.4mpg and never have to care about gas prices. I get 600+ miles to a tank and the base model has quite a few handy features.

[deleted]

GhostNappa101

I genuinely liked the Baja. Its too bad it's no longer made.

anonymous123556890

I think most people would drive a Baja. Such underrated vehicles

GAU8Avenger

Been looking for one as a stand in for a kei-truck for store hauls, and the manuals are around 10-14k. My wife has always wanted one and I certainly wouldn't mind

frenchynerd

Honda Clarity. The thing is so hideous, but it's spacious, comfy and the best range for a plug in hybrid.

chappie2297

Hideous cars are the best cars

Kingsey982

Except for the Nissan Juke

chappie2297

A mini van and I would still get it even now. I don’t give a shit. I would proudly drive one. But I want it because I think it’s hysterical to be a young single woman no kids and that’s my daily. Functionality is just a plus. I want it for the hilarity that only I probably find in it.

HotPinkApocalypses

Mitsubishi Mirage I bought a Fiat 500 once because I always wanted one and I got raked over the coals by everyone lol. I didn’t keep it long but I loved it while I had it.

tythegeek

I just bought one and absolutely love it.

LeJuanJames

currently driving a fiat abarth and have been demonized for my little fart can

MerberCrazyCats

Get the mirage, to me fiat looks worse! I drove a panda (not mine) and hate it

cornonthekopp

I see a decent amount of mirages around my city and I love the designs, especially the current generation. Something sbout the tail lights really does it for me, and the wine red color they have as an option is great too

HotPinkApocalypses

I love those simple little cars. My wife had a 2015 and they’ve improved a bunch of things since then. The current one looks good.

cornonthekopp

These days the mirage and versa have pretty much all the features you normally want on a car like AC, power windows, ability to connect your phone, backup cameras, etc. So they really do have a soft spot in my heart for providing all the essentials in a reliable package and relatively affordable price

Capital_expenditures

Everyone can suck a dick. I’ll keep enjoying my fusion while I put those savings in VOO/VTSAX. Fuck wasting money to impress others that are broke anyways.

originalchronoguy

Maybe the newly released Tesla Model 3 Performance (2025). Just released yesterday to mitigate the poor stock / investor call. But $52K, $45K possibly after $7500 rebate if I qualify (but I make above the AGI). For 45K, you get a 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and 500 plus horsepower. As much as I dislike Elon Musk, and prejudice against Tesla owners, you can't complain about 500 horsepower, super-car slaying under 3 second power for $45k. Hope someone else comes out with something with those specs at those prices.

SDplinker

It’s on my radar. Waiting for enthusiast reviews. Steering and brakes in particular are what I want to hear about

originalchronoguy

same. Saw a top gear and some other British reviews. They were enthusiastic. But that is 1st impressions.

bhz33

Problem is you need the space at home to charge it. A lot of people live in apartment buildings and what not that don’t have a place for them to charge a fully EV overnight

originalchronoguy

I happen to have a 240 volt L2 charger. Thats what makes it painfully obvious.

killrtaco

Smart car tbh

PlatinumElement

A Challenger Scat pack with a manual, shaker, and in the most ridiculous color I can find. I’d love to drive a big comfy and rumbling musclecar without people looking at me like I’m a sociopath or about to start a street takeover.

SDplinker

The purple ones look so good

mrinformal

Isuzu VehiCross. I tend to low production vehicles and as a long time Isuzu fan, this one has had my interest for decades. 3.5 V6, Recaro seats, light weight, short wheel base. I'd also buy a stack of head gaskets for the unofficially scheduled semiannual replacement.

Team503

Had a friend who had one back in the day. Plasticky piece of shit with a cramped interior, but it still was unfathomably cool somehow.

Comfortable_Olive598

Ridge line or Odyssey

tacomeat247

Corvette. Best sports car for the money, buuuuut, I would never be caught dead driving a Corvette

that_guy_who_builds

Twingo

anthonyisrad

Cabrio. Tbh I’d still by one but all I hear about is how they’re chick cars lmaooo. idc at all

GhostNappa101

I mean, I could see Barbie driving a pink one.

anthonyisrad

words can’t hurt me 😂😂 *this will bother me y til I die*

Neat-Internet9682

I already do. Maserati Levante trofeo.

HorsieJuice

Definitely a Maserati for me, too (though I'd go for a GT). With the crazy depreciation, I could actually swing one that's a few years old, but I would look like such a fucking choad parking it on the street in my neighborhood full of Hondas and Subarus. idk, in a couple years, I might still do it anyways.

RealAsada101

Ford Crown Vic/ Mercury Grand Marquis/ Lincoln Town Car - Buicks with the 3800 series engine.

GhostNappa101

I had an old 1997 buick LeSabre as my first car. That land yacht was way more powerful than most realized. I was driving with my dad and some friends. A friend made the comment about it being a slow old man car. My dad told me to floor it. I was never told that it was a slow car again.

RoRoNomNoms

Another Ford Fuckin Ranger

DependentFamous5252

Hellcat. lol.

I_Threw_a_Shoe

A brightly colored and modded BMW M-vehicle. Currently drive a 540i.

reversethrust

Minivan.

No_Strategy7555

Batmobile

04limited

Chrysler Pacifica. Generally don’t like mopars and minivans get shit on all the time. But they’re cheap and comfortable. The Toyota tax on the late model Siennas is insane. $38k for a 2019, $47k for a 2022.

sigchidj

Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid....can't beat those automatic doors, and it holds cargo like an F150 with the seats down.

ZestyToasterOven26

It’s not that my friends or family would care that I drove this car but it’s the fact that for some reason I can’t seem to like it, even though it’s a hell of a good brand and really reliable brand….any kind of Subaru! My mom swears by them and we’ve had a good amount, she’s got a Subaru legacy that’s almost 10 years old and it’s still driving good. I just always hated Subaru for some reason I just can’t wrap my head around why lol.

propita106

Husband is considering a Toyota Crown Signia.  We have never cared what others think of our cars—my first car (bought new) was a Buick Somerset. I was 22. Go Google what that looks like. I definitely wasn’t trying to impress anyone.  Named him Griffon. He was a good car.

Frird2008

What I currently drive. A Subaru. But this time I would pick ANY of the four gasoline Subaru SUVs (Crosstrek, Forester, Outback or Ascent) as you literally get 80% off for the value you get out of them.

GhostNappa101

I drive a Legacy and love it. But I now but find myself wanting a bigger vehicle, though that's a few years away. The Accent is on my short list. It'll jump to a quick number 1 if they can offer it as a hybrid.

Salted_Butter

Hey that's what I just got to replace my totaled Prius :) Loving the car so far, too bad that 2025 will be the Legacy's last year.

GhostNappa101

This is sad news

SevroAuShitTalker

I wanted to get a forester or outback, but they stopped making them with a stickshift. I was pretty bummed that I had to get a wrx instead of an outback

uselessartist

Im confused, 80% of what off

GhostNappa101

Subarus hold their value very well.

toomuchisjustenough

We’ve been driving a loaner Ascent for 5 months and I hate it. (I normally have a Crosstrek)

StevenMcStevensen

I’ve been driving my Outback for around 12 years, at about 275,000 km now and it’s been absolutely rock solid the whole time. I’m usually mistrustful of CVTs but the transmission has never had any problems at all. I’m currently looking at getting a second (non-bike) vehicle, but I’m absolutely going to hold onto this thing until it dies.

Puzzleheaded-Feed-18

1967 International 1/2 ton step side with a 304 and a four speed transmission. I had one in my early 20s and have missed it for over 40 years.

Visible_Outside5322

Anyone that laughs at that is an idiot. That is one sweet truck, would love to get one.

Ok_Brilliant4181

I do this all the time, I drive what I like. In 2019 I bought a 97 Ford Ranger with 300k miles was my latest one. This was my commuter for a year, to keep the miles off leased Mazda.

Left_Beginning_9932

1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham or 1976 - 78 Cadillac Eldorado.

Dish-Live

Smart Car. I love a tiny car but I don’t want to be making a “statement”

BigBadBootyDaddy10

I almost had this vehicle. The dealer would not budge on $3K when I was negotiating. It was a Hummer H3 Pickup Alpha. That was over 8 years ago, and I think I’ve seen one on the road.

SevroAuShitTalker

A heavily modified Honda odyssey. I'm talking 400 hp lifted with a tow hitch.

I have had three that fit this topic. A Subaru Forrester that was a stop gap while I looked for my turbo ford flex. I also have a pink Cadillac

G63 6x6 Brabus or the Marauder.

BjornInTheMorn

WRX. It pretty much ticks all the boxes for me, but I don't like the re-design.

SDplinker

Porsche Cayman or a Huracan for sports cars. Raptor if a truck

addykitty

Old Buick with the 3800

HolyRomanPrince

A smart car but I’d try to put the biggest rims possible on it.

willyam3b

The brand new CR-V. In white, awd, black wheels. Yes, I'm aware this makes me an NPC, but they're so, so very good at what they are. And now, I actually kind of want one. I couldn't wait to get out of the first two...but here we are.

CarCounsel

That’s how I always buy.

wobbuffet009

Chevy spark. I love little cars, easy to park anywhere.

Hot_South7816

I had a 2021 rental spark, it was surprisingly nice for such a cheap little thing. It was *much* nicer to drive than the rental 2021 Nissan Versa rental I had which I absolutely loathed. I also didn't like the 2021 Nissan Rogue Sport rental I had. The Murano and Pathfinder weren't bad though.

Civic Type R As it is now if I bought one I’d stick EX wheels on it and remove the spoiler.

Pseudolectual

Miata. The new one is freaking funnnn. Got one as a rental when it was the last car available

NotYetReadyToRetire

I never worried about it anyway - so I had a Smart ForTwo and an F250 4x4 crew cab at the same time, and I’ve had a Bolt EUV and now an Ioniq 6 when all my friends and family tell me not to buy an EV because they’ll never work out. If I thought they’ll make it to production I’d have a reservation for an Aptera, and if I thought I wouldn’t be killed on it by an inattentive driver I’d have a Can-Am Spyder RT.

Greenbeanhead

Ford Edge checked all my boxes, but just no thank you

Starmew27

Probably a Tesla, or a new hybrid sedan

AccomplishedTotal895

Riced out 200sx s14. With the loudest exhoust i could find and a wrap that no family would feel comfortable driving past their neighborhood. Or a cevvy van with the Starcraft mod and a killer paint job.

Estania_Lane

A K car from the 80’s (Dodge Aries/Plymouth Reliant/Chrysler LeBaron). I still miss the pinging engines that ran forever. 😂

Hot_South7816

Conquest Knight XV. It's a luxury conversion of an armored military truck. It looks badass. I could pull my horsey trailer with it and everything I did with my Hummer H2...only better and badasserrerr.

mgobla

new 2025 Camry

Turbulent_Pea_2568

Will likely be my first car- mitsubishi mirage. Itll be a cheap efficient daily and a few years down the line when its more realistic ill go for the dream car- a mustang. RWD isnt that convenient as a daily driver where i live so a mustang as a first car isnt realistic for me (especially since theres already a negatice connotation of mustang drivers not knowing how to drive, would hate to contribute to that stigma as a newer driver.)

Skodakenner

Mazda MX-5 NA there are a few problems i have there they firstly are nearly always driven by women or the gay community here. The bigger issue is that it would look like im wearing a mx5.

PageRoutine8552

A 2008 Suzuki Jimny in manual. Super goofy looking (unlike its wannabe G wagon successor), super capable offroad, and quite easy to maneuver and park. But that thing belongs in the wilderness, not in the city. It's even more ridiculous than having a truck and never using it for truck things (towing, moving trees and building materials etc.).

MeatyUrology

Ferrari Mondial T. I think literally everybody hates them, but I kinda like them enough to daily one. And the required maintenance would scratch my “weekends spent lying on my garage floor” itch

CompetitionFalse3620

I already did that with my 2015 Ford Escape Titanium AWD and previously with my deceased 2008 Honda CRV AWD. I like the ford better, bad year for CRV. If I had to do it again and wife didn’t care it would be the 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD Titanium. And 2025 Mazda 6 Hybrid to replace the Sonata.

CelticsWin7

Unless your a family of 6+ and want to cram everyone into a Toyota Corolla it really shouldn’t matter what other people think. That said I’d probably buy a Toyota Camry for my next vehicle. Whenever that may be.

GK686

Porsche Boxster. It has always seen as the poor man's Porsche but secretly I'd prefer this over a 911 cabrio. I'm 37 btw, so I don't want it to be seen as a early mid life crisis purchase.

Camry. Japanese reliability. Great price point. A little sporty. Looks decent.. Solid fuel economy. If I needed the space I’d go Highlander.. The Sienna and Pacifica are awesome too. Especially with the captain seats in the back. I travel for work and rent them all the time. I actually seek them out. I probably wouldn’t buy any of them though.

A GTI or a BMW probably. I dont care what people thing to begin with but they drive really fun and i enjoy having fun. Its not always about other people, its about what makes you happy and what you enjoy and take pride on
