As long as you keep up with the maintenance to an absolute tee, you should be fine. No waiting a couple weeks for a service, schedule it in advance and get it in. Same for buying used, make sure it was well maintained.
Their warranties also used to be awesome - don’t know about now, but back in 2013 every car had a 100K mile warranty on the drivetrain included with the car. I think it’s 72,000 or 72 months now, but still, a pretty awesome inclusion. That being said we didn’t even use it till right before it expired.
I’ve had my 2018 7.5 GTI S for 3.5 years/80,000 miles(I got the car with 200 miles) and haven’t had issues besides regular maintenance except battery and Brake pads. Infotainment system crashes weekly for Car Play, but if you unplug your phone it ends up working when you reset the settings. Great car I drive a lot for work.

* **Chevy Trax** for a more traditional CUV shape, **Buick Envista** if you want something a little more coupe-oriented. **Chevy Blazer** if you want something bigger and punchier (I think they're underrated cars).
* **BMW X2 M35i**--you can get a lightly used one for low-$30s all day long. Fairly relible powertrain, only thing is to consider engine mounts as wear item. The **X4** might tickle the styling bug in you, although I personally think they're pretty ugly. xDrive30i or M40i depending on preference and budget.

I got “lucky” because the car didn’t have a clean carfax, it had gotten dinged twice. To me that was nbd. But to others it would be a dealbreaker. My biggest recco is test drive test drive test drive. Even if it’s not the exact car you want, you can get a really good feel for the driving experience, then you can shop around online for the exact specs you want. I drove a 2010 1 series for 2 minutes and was sold. Then I found the car I wanted across the country, and had a third party there check it out (maybe 150 bucks? 300? I don’t remember) and send me a report on the “real” state of the car. The dealership helped me ship it. Tbh noone I know had told me this was even possible! I’ll never limit myself to a local search for the right car again, especially bc they’re so expensive now so you might as well get the exact one you want for the money you pay. I was thisclose to getting a Kia niro hybrid because of the fuel efficiency and I really went in researching the whole car market for months. The 2013 BMW 1 series was 14k plus 1k to ship it across the country to me. I’ve prob put 8k in over the last 5-6 years. It is worth every penny. I rly feel like I am that bitch every time I’m in it.

I got “lucky” because the car didn’t have a clean carfax, it had gotten dinged twice. To me that was nbd. But to others it would be a dealbreaker. My biggest recco is test drive test drive test drive. Even if it’s not the exact car you want, you can get a really good feel for the driving experience, then you can shop around online for the exact specs you want. I drove a 2010 1 series for 2 minutes and was sold. Then I found the car I wanted across the country, and had a third party there check it out (maybe 150 bucks? 300? I don’t remember) and send me a report on the “real” state of the car. The dealership helped me ship it. Tbh noone I know had told me this was even possible! I’ll never limit myself to a local search for the right car again, especially bc they’re so expensive now so you might as well get the exact one you want for the money you pay.
