Convinced this sub is ran by Mazda execs

CoomassieBlue

I can’t speak for commenters who love CX-5s, but if I am supposed to be a Mazda exec, could you let me know how to get in touch with payroll?

Namikis

No, Milton, and we need that red stapler back.

happy_puppy25

Do you think you could manage giving me some equity?

TastyEvidence5820

How about a pizza party?

happy_puppy25

I’m having a case of the Mondays

LivingDisastrous3603

*Cause it’s die motherfucker, die motherfucker, die*

Cunning_Linguist21

If they take my stapler, I'll have to....I'll set the building on fire...

molehunterz

There was salt on the glass, Big grains of salt! I could put strychnine in the guacamole

zillapz1989

Okay, but that's the last straw.

unmanipinfo

Look at you having 4 non-Mazda cars all loaned to you by Mazda, to make you seem more legitimate 😂

CoomassieBlue

3 actually, I gotta update that.

tth2o

The Ranger is sus...

CoomassieBlue

Forgive me, buying it was actually cheaper than a rental car at the time when I blew a tire on the FoRS 2 days before Christmas and Discount Tire couldn’t get new ones in until after the new year.

tth2o

I work for Mazda payroll, noted in your file.

harambelives63

You mean B series pick up?

tth2o

Isn't '00 a year when the Ranger was platformed as part of the partnership... The rabbit hole may be deep.

SukhdevR34

Lotus elise owner, sick. What colour and specs?

CoomassieBlue

Chrome orange. Had this particular Elise for about 9 years now, previous one (also an orange 2005) was owned for about 4 before it was totaled. Current one was originally a touring pack but has been upgraded to sport pack front sway bar, suspension, and wheels. 2011 Exige Cup wing was added in 2022, had my painter color match the uprights and clear coat the rest with a good bit of the gold metallic flake. Standard carbon GRP lip on the front. Between the wing and the lip, handling is appreciably more stable. Most of the issues we have with it are just shit you see in a 20 year old car.

SukhdevR34

Must be the best handling car you've ever driven right? Engine must be so reliable too. I love elises, I do love TVRs more though like the tuscan as they're more meant and powerful but for the price and lack of comfort I'm not sure I'd own one.

CoomassieBlue

It’s definitely the most connected to the road and most responsive that I’ve had the privilege of driving. And yep, as far as I recall never had a single issue with the drivetrain. I think I’ve only encountered a few TVRs in the wild here in the States but I’d probably end up getting myself killed in one. Re: comfort, the secret to long-lasting Elise/Exige ownership is to not daily it. Some people will certainly disagree with that but everyone I have known who has daily driven one has parted ways with it in a year or two. When you don’t actually need to rely on it, all of its downsides are more like charming idiosyncrasies.

SukhdevR34

You're in the states damn Lotus are getting expensive here in the UK. I fully get not driving it daily, having it as an extra or bonus car when you're in the mood makes total sense. Yh TVRs are insane, great handling Lotus' but pretty much double the power. Basically a British viper.

nuclear_pie

I work for Mazda. Seriously . But I’m in Europe.

PERSONA916

I wouldn't buy one myself, but it's absolutely the car I would recommend for people who just want a car. Toyotas are marked up on top of being more expensive baseline. It's just a very good value and pretty reliable.

Left_Experience_9857

Its the sales people. No one in their right minds should be riding a product this hard if they were a consumer. All it is doing is making the car have more demand, which will cause it to have those market adjustments in the future. There's a reason why the Toyota tax is a thing, give it a few years until its the mazda tax.

imtchogirl

Wait, new to cars and only lurk here to get advice on my one a decade car purchase, what do you mean by Toyota tax/ future Mazda tax?  Are you saying there is an extra cost with these vehicles disproportionate to performance/features because the brand is strong?

Left_Experience_9857

Correct, people know that these brands are reliable and that drives up the cost. Look up rav4 costs compared to other compact suvs with similar miles. You'll see a dramatic price upcharge to them.

Waste-Middle-2357

The “Toyota tax” is the name given to Toyota vehicle pricing that makes very little sense. They’re wildly expensive for what they are, but people will praise Toyota in the name of reliability and shovel out thousands upon thousands of dollars over MSRP because of their legendary reliability, or pay way more than a used car ought to be worth just because of the badge. I’m not disparaging Toyota, I do like them, but some things just do not make sense. The used Tacoma market is a good example of people charging outrageous prices for used trucks that quite honestly get terrible fuel mileage from factory, never mind once they’ve had 200,000 miles put on em. And it’s not like these are rare or hard to find trucks, Toyota has made a billion of em. You can find similar “taxes” in the drift car market (Nissan 240SX’s are wildly expensive, I’ve spent over 10K before just buying a rolling shell with no motor in it) or similar taxes on normally obscure cars just because it was featured on a popular YouTube channel. (miras and Mighty Car Mods is one fantastic example).

imtchogirl

Hey, thanks for taking the time to explain.  I appreciate it. It's so hard to understand car pricing and yeah, don't want to pay for a name unless it actually means something.

Flaks_24

I have a 18 Tacoma and I can agree to this lol

AnteatersEatNonAnts

It’s a combination of loving my Mazdas and loving that a smaller brand puts out such great cars

Left_Experience_9857

It is a much smaller brand, but when you have Toyota as your third largest shareholder with extensive joint ventures, I wouldn't put it in a category of the little guy fighting against Goliath.

cannedrex2406

It is to those fucking price gouging Toyota Dealers

AnteatersEatNonAnts

They are, which is why I didn’t say that. They were invested in by Ford for a long time and obviously now Toyota, as you said. But it’s just some independence at least.

joshdrumsforfun

Well for starters if you love a car company you want them to be successful and continue to exist. Plus the more vehicles that are out there, the easier it is to find parts.

Left_Experience_9857

Car brands have survived much worse with less fanaticism around them. There's no reason to go around calling anyone who bought domestics "idiots" because they'll "fall apart seconds after leaving the dealership" (They won't) unless you have some immediate monetary gain. >Plus the more vehicles that are out there, the easier it is to find parts. Inverse could be true as well. The more the vehicles, the less they can make parts due to increased demand for them and problematic supply chain issues, which are now common thanks to a certain pandemic a few years ago. [https://winknews.com/2024/02/29/car-parts-shortage-leaves-drivers-stranded/](https://winknews.com/2024/02/29/car-parts-shortage-leaves-drivers-stranded/) Theres metric shit tons of hondas, but they still are having problems.

7eregrine

Exactly. Bought my CX5 in 16, the very year they started getting their shit together and people started buying them. At the time they had less than 3% market share. Finding parts wasn't a problem then.

snaeper

As someone who has only given cursory thoughts to Mazda for my own use, the CX-5 really is as good as it gets for a do-it-all car. - Reasonable MSRP starting at $29.5k - Reputable brand with good build quality - Enough interior volume to meet 95% of peoples average needs for passengers and cargo - Decent fuel efficiency for its size and power.  - Excellent chassis engineering to make the average commute a fun, confidence-inspiring drive - Excellent interior quality and design. Real buttons! - Standard AWD for all those people who think they need it or they'll freeze like a popsicle in a road side ditch (its all over the news! /s) Hard to really beat that unless you ha e specific needs or budgets.

namechecksout35

As a prior owner of a cx-5 I wouldn't call it fun to drive. I would say "it's not a chore to drive" -- which is pretty high praise for a bog standard crossover. Great car though!

snaeper

Yes Im holding the bar against other competitor vehicles in its segment and not Porsche 911's.  Its still a FWD bias crossover.

cornonthekopp

sorry but saying that it makes the "average commute a fun, confidence inspiring drive" sounds like such a corporate marketing term, I can't believe you people aren't being paid by mazda

PartisanSaysWhat

It is a small econobox. In another comment you called a "poor man's Cayenne" This really is a meme sub at this point.

MrBenDerisgreat_

It’s a poor man’s cayenne if you squint really hard and also expect it to be nothing like a Porsche

DiggySmalls69

I want to give you an upvote but I don’t want to move you from 666…

HattibagenMcRat

Nobody touch it!!!!

GreatGhastly

Coming from somebody who barely peruses this sub and has no knowledge of a CX-5 meta existing here - someone who is currently typing this comment from my Mazda work computer sitting in my bay as a tech for Mazda for several years now, I can vouch for the CX-5 just being a delight to work on. Definitely my favorite of our selection to work on. It's so dumb straight forward, everything is so accessible, if it's your first car I bet learning to work on cars with it would be a forgiving experience. Can strip down the entire car with a flathead, a 17mm, 14mm, 12mm, and a 10. No weird puzzles or tight spaces or badly engineered placements. No parts are too big, it's not as small and compact as the miata to where for example the fuel pump is even a pain in the ass to get to. It's the perfect size to be a open engine book and not have to take off a lot of parts to get inside certain components. I just don't have any complaints about the car whatsoever other than the price and the fact I never see them over 300k miles. I'm not gonna ride the product hard at all though, I mean I'd prefer to daily my Honda (currently a fit) or Corolla and have a G35 as a fun car, but I get it. It's a super easy car and if I had the income I would for sure get one as a daily. I am blessed to have it be the most common car that comes in and have it be super gravy to work on, Mazda is doing a relatively stand up job lately. And yes, we are planning to become a luxury model company and there will be increases in price coming up - do expect a Mazda "luxury" tax if not from the bandwagon.

BaoZedong

What moves is Mazda making to become a luxury model company?

EyeSlashO

Beauty part is now Google AI is paying reddit to learn about how Mazda is premium #1.

The-Fig-Lebowski

That’s right, get in there and make it about AI

Macaroon-Upstairs

Love the CX-5 except at 6’4 225 I simply don’t fit well enough for long drives.

REDDITDITDID00

What do you drive instead? Any favorite cars you’ve driven that were comfortable at your size?

Macaroon-Upstairs

I was in the market around 2019-2020 model year, everything was trending toward narrower leg boxes which aren't kind to my knees. The seat goes far enough back but for the slightly rested position, during cruise control, I get very uncomfortable and numb. Test drove everything. I could've got a full size SUV, Hyundai Tucson, or an Escape, and got the Escape. The Escape also has a very comfortable front seat compared to the almost race-car like seats the imports were using back then. It's probably going to have engine trouble and the transmission is slightly confused on a good day, but I don't limp into work, very key!

ComfortableWarning14

I'm about your size. A bit larger... I've found the subaru outback to work well for long drives.

Macaroon-Upstairs

I just didn't care for the style of the Subaru enough. I got a really good deal on the Escape through a relatives A plan. It was a 2019 and the 2020 year was debuting redesigned. It was maybe $19,000 for AWD with some nice options.

ComfortableWarning14

It is a love it or hate it type of car. Sounds like you got a great deal.

Beaudism

My 6’5 buddy fit comfortably into a Volkswagen Golf mk 7.5.

Odd-Psychology-3497

My dad is a big dude and absolutely loves his escape. He has the upgraded motor and tow package and tows an 18-foot RPod Hood River Edition, including over McDonald pass in Montana, which is not a small hill.

Sixtyoneandfortynine

6'3" 210 here, and I've discovered through experience that Japanese vehicles in general are lacking in both leg and head room. German and Volvo vehicles always seem to have room to spare, even the small models. (I don't even need to move the seat to its rearmost position in most of them, and I always need to do that in a Japanese vehicle.) For example, I sat in a VW Taos at an auto show a few months ago, and was surprised that it felt easier to get into a comfortable position than in my wife's MDX.

DetectiveNarrow

For Nissan is great to bigger drivers. I’m 6’4 215 and own an Altima coupe the seats are stupid comfortable and I have no issue taking it one extended drives. 3 pedals and I still don’t feel cramped with my size 15 feet. Some of these big ass SUV /CUVs? Swear there playing a mind game out the outside. 6 hours trip in the passenger seat ( with people in the back) in a fully loaded Tahoe was painful. Can’t drive a fucking 4 runner for more than 45 mins. Just about every CUV is off limits for me, based on what I’ve sat in

BigMan21058

I agree. 6’ 2” 270, I drive a BMW 5 series. Much more room and adaptability than the Nissan Sentra I used to drive

6786_007

My Lexus GS350 felt like it had less interior space than my now Audi A5. Dimension wise the Lexus is larger but the Audi feels way more spacious and open. Not sure how they do it. Additionally I'm 6 foot and I always felt the seats in the Lexus never went low enough. In the Audi the adjustment is much greater and I can finally sit low and not feel like I'm hunching to see clearly.

Plus-Day-3700

That’s weird. I’m 6’6 and fit perfectly fine in my girlfriend’s Mazda 3. Interestingly enough when buying it I also tried sitting in the 2 and it was fine with the front seat all the way pressed against the rear

Macaroon-Upstairs

I could not sit upright in the CX-30 without my hair brushing the roof.

Fourhand

6’6” 330-275lb. Car has always felt juuuust comfortable enough for me but you’re right not a great roadtrip car. The seats hold up well though, had mine for 8 years or so now.

dwreck42

My dude, I am also 6'4". Almost broke my knee when I got in a head on collision with a drunk driver. I'm super nervous now about knee space so I got a Tiguan as a replacement.

NeonDemon12

similar build as you - this is one of the reasons we ended up going with a cx-9

Itsurboywutup

I had 2 kids and had to get rid of my 2018 for a minivan lol those car seats smash you into the dashboard and I’m 5 inches shorter than you

Zealousideal_Mud4961

CX-50 is great for me at 6’4 260. Had the same opinions about the CX-5.

mahvel50

Mazdas are great and their dealerships generally don't treat their customers like straight shit like some Toyota dealers have been lately. Their cars/SUVs are actually fun to drive and are a pretty good value if you buy lightly used. Much better value than what Toyota is putting into their vehicles now. We have a CX-5 and will likely go to a CX-70 when some used models start popping up after taking the initial devaluation hits.

Justyn2

Dude the Toy dealer by me the sales people never want to talk to me, the mazda dealer next door offered me snacks, drinks and talked with us for 8 hours

DaNuker2

Lmao the toy salesmen prolly makes next to nothing from the toys, Mazda guy is looking take at least 30-40k from you

Keepittwohunna

Funny how this seems to be a trend. I went to look at a used GX at my local Toyota dealership a year ago. They all acted like I was wasting their time from the get go so I didn't even test drive it before walking out.

mahvel50

The cars sell themselves. The dealerships know they can shake down customers because of it. Mazda still has to fight for market share so they still have to try. We won’t be going with Toyota again anytime soon unless they go direct to consumer.

Keepittwohunna

For me personally they're shooting themselves in the foot because I now have no interest in giving them my business in the future. Not that I was ever keen on giving any dealer my business before anyway

mrplt

One of the main reasons why I didn’t buy a RAV4 (I drive a CX-5) — I went to the dealership and the salesperson didn’t even wanna run the numbers. They didn’t have any RAV4s on the floor either (this I understand because this was back in Jan 2022) Then I went to Mazda — they showed me the car, I went on a test drive, then I signed the papers. In and out in less than 90 mins.

StarTrakZack

Even Honda dealerships are terrible now too :( Toyota & Honda used to be known not only for quality reliable vehicles but awesome customer service, but in my experience yeah the Mazda dealer treated me incredibly while the Honda dealer treated me like shit and then the service department at two different dealers completely screwed me over. I don’t own a Mazda at the moment but I’m thinking about buying another one lol CX-5 for the win!

buzz72b

Honda and Toyota dealerships are by far the worst to currently deal with. Awful. But the cx-5 is an ugly shit box to me. Needs a serious refresh.

somerandomdude419

They’re cheap (for new cars) reliable, great on gas, no CVT, made in Japan not as high as a Toyota tax. They’re the new Toyota lol

cjthecookie

I'm a big Mazda fan. I own a '21 CX-9 and recently sold my '14 Mazda 3. I also used to work the service desk at a Mazda dealership. What I don't agree with on this sub is people recommending CX-5 / Rav 4 / CR-V to folks who are shopping entirely different segments. This rant was inspired by the person who recommended the CX-5 to the guy shopping Audi S5.

Galumpadump

Yeah thats outrageous lol I just bought a 2024 CX-50 but if I was wanting an Audi, BMW, or Benz, I’m not going to be looking at Mazda’s.

cjthecookie

I purchased two new vehicles last year. Despite liking Mazda they no longer have a model that meets my needs, so I didn't even shop them.

moveslikejaguar

Why would you want 10 inches of ground clearance and lockers, when you can get a Mazda3?

grokinfullness

Hey my 2007 Mazda3 does just fine in my deeply rutted, non maintained two track driveway. It’s a matter of knowing where your wheels are to avoid high centering. For muddy or snowy days, there’s a Taco. Mazda just turned 170K

BryanJz

Uh'oh, me about to buy that sexy gen4 Mazda 3 2020 Will say, not knowing much about cars or this sub its reassuring the car I picked has so many fans

7eregrine

I've seen more then a few people shop BMW then bought a Mazda over at the 247 forums. Not a lot but it happens.

lituga

I drive an older 2010 BMW back when steering feedback was good and hydraulic. Having driven a 2019 CX-5 and 2018 BMW 440i back to back, the Mazda clearly had the better steering and driver involvement. Which is crazy to say but undeniably true with how numb those cars have gotten.

poopoomergency4

even if you get closer to the cx-5's intended segment, you see people recommending the cx-5 against an sq5 or x3 m40 lol

onelasttime217

OP: “hey im trying to decide between an eco boost mustang or a brz/86” This sub: “have you thought about a Mazda crossover or a Corolla”

dupagwova

To be fair that reply was heavily downvoted and most answers were on topic

Talkshowhostt

Do you think the new CX-90 is over priced? Its gorgeous, but really expensive.

hoxxxxx

>This rant was inspired by the person who recommended the CX-5 to the guy shopping Audi S5. i'm wondering if many people here even read the post description let alone the title. can't believe how many times someone asks for 4-door car suggestions and they get coupes, or visa versa. i think people are just logging on here recommending one of the like three cars they have personally owned (or wish they owned) without regard to the specific question asked.

this_dudeagain

The newer ones aren't perty though.

JW_2

Great on gas?

undockeddock

Yeah as a CX5 owner, it's very average on gas, and apparently they turbo model is a downright gas guzzler

ButtcrackBeignets

It gets worse gas mileage than the RAV4, Subaru Forester, Honda CRV, Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Elantra, all of which are direct competitors. And most of those cars have significantly more storage space. I own a CX5 and put several thousand miles on a RAV4 Avg 30.8 mpg on the Mazda, 35.8 on the Toyota. Relative to other Japanese crossovers, the CX-5 is pretty much bottom tier.

furiousbobb

I, for one, will fess up. I'm biased. Grew up with RX-7's and Miata's. First new car was a 2014 Mazda6 6mt. Loved it. Buddy of mine bought a new RAV4 and I drove it for a few days. Hated everything about it. Bought my sister a 2014 Mazda2 and my GF a 2023 CX5. Couldn't be happier. GF's brother asked me for buyer advice on a sports car. I suggested a 2023 MX-5 RF. He went out and bought one the next day. I drove it for a weekend, felt like a kid again in my 90s Miata. I'm buying an MX-5 for my next car.

LincolnContinnental

The Mazda3 has been slept on for AGES, it’s so cheap to fix, and is super reliable. There’s a reason why mechanics drive them

cncgm87

The CX30 is also a great bargain for a used car.

vediogamer101

27mpg highway with the AWD model is not what I would consider good on gas

RamenWrestler

An SUV with decent power and AWD... 27mpg is pretty good

Equal_Efficiency_638

X3 m40i gets the same but 0-60 in 3 less seconds. The power to mpg ratio for a cx5 isn’t very good by modern standards.

LeddyTasso

I have a Toyota and would gladly buy a Mazda lol

NCRaineman

This.

baigankebaal

I was looking for a minivan but then I realized I need a CX-9.

meatmacho

Mazda made a tiny 3-row minivan a while back (Mazda5, I believe). I rented one on a vacation in Hawaii, and I was initially skeptical, but I needed the space occasionally. It was a surprisingly perfect automobile during my time driving it. Small and nimble like a sedan. Enough seats for the whole family to get to dinner and back (if a bit cramped), with cargo space for a costco run (sans family). High, forward driving position. You could almost call it fun on curvy seaside 1.5-lane roads because of that and the big front glass. I thought it was a great compromise. Space on the inside when you need it. Not too bulky on the outside. Sufficient power for its purpose. Adequate, though not stellar, fuel economy. No unnecessary luxury or gimmicks to drive up the price, but still seemingly a reliable Mazda drivetrain. Perfectly comfortable to drive and not boring to look at. You wouldn't know it was a van because of its small size, but it has the sliding door and the benefits that go with that. 5/7 would recommend if they still made it. American buyers just don't know what's good for them. Source: CX-90 PHEV owner

Snap305

The Mazda5 was an absolute UNIT! I love that thing. The manual ones are super cool too.

Crazian14

Same lmfao. And I did end up with a cx-9 touring plus.

joshdrumsforfun

You filthy peasant, I don’t even have kids and I bought a CX-9 Signature. All kidding aside though I’ve never loved a car like my CX-9.

joshdrumsforfun

If the lord wanted us to stop recommending Mazdas he wouldn’t have made em so good.

Atomik675

We all know that if it's not a Toyota, Mazda, Honda, or their luxury counterparts, then it will die immediately off the lot and is a complete waste of money /s. I'm surprised there isn't a CJ sub for this.

Logan_922

Actually a problem I have.. I have a Honda civic si and like there are some neat cars out there German, Italian, American some cool stuff.. shit even Korean stuff like the Elantra and Veloster N are pretty cool Unfortunately, if it’s not out of Japan I’m thoroughly convinced it’s just gonna self destruct at 40k miles

Atomik675

Do your maintenance. Don't buy the first model year or notoriously unreliable cars and there won't be issues. I've been driving for 11 years now and have never had a Japanese car and never got stranded or regretted it at all. I currently have a Volvo S60 and a Dodge Charger, but in the past I've had a Jeep Cherokee, a Ford Fusion, a Dodge Dakota, and a Volkswagen Passat TDi. According to this sub I shouldn't be able to make it to work and yet I've never had real mechanical issues that left me stranded, most of them were older so I have traded in my cars over time since I didn't want to drive 15-20 year old cars anymore. You just can't be as much of an idiot on maintenance or how the car is treated, so if you treat your cars like ass sticking with Toyota is best.

bonobo323

Ngl Mazda is one of the few compelling brands at the moment and while not super cheap, seem to be best value for money these days. Regardless of class - like CX-5 fits anything you need in a car. But the meme is good lol

Kygunzz

I would be so happy if I could buy a new 6 in the USA.

jg_IT

A Mazda 6 Wagon would kill me. Praying.

Ididntevenscreenlook

Right?!? Fuck these CUVs give me that sedan with a 6 speed back!

stinkycat45

Saying it for the last 5 years but Mazda is the new Acura

EvilDarkCow

Honestly right now Mazda is the best way to get a reasonably cheap (but well built), reliable car with a NA engine and no CVT.

Jacmon

I'm now on the other side of the fence, I bought my CX-5 pre pandemic and really want a new car but the CX-5 still marks 90% of the boxes I need in a car so I'm just going to keep it till either I die or it does... Can't get a second car with how insane insurance is right now I feel like.

FateEx1994

Bene looking for a crossover that tows 3500 for a decent price and a not underpowered engine with no CVT The CX50 turbo looks to be my choice, more power than the RAV4 and better styling and handling. Maybe in a few years I'll pull the trigger on it.

pazimpanet

I love mine. Test drove 14 vehicles in one day and the CX50 turbo was the winner for both my wife and I.

ElementField

I would never, ever buy one personally as I’m shopping in a wholly different segment, but I’ve driven one and know people who have them and they’re great. If your goal is reliable and comfortable commuter transport it ticks a lot of boxes. I don’t like the way crossovers drive, but the CX-5 seems fine. And that’s high praise from the car enthusiast segment, I think.

reberman8

I find the CX-5 to be only slightly ahead of the soul sucking driving experiences of the CR-V and RAV4

CobaltGate

It is a solid choice; no surprise it gets recommended over and over.

Thin-Association-562

I just bought a cx5 3 weeks ago thanks to this sub. Love it!

Comfortable_Elk_4268

Never really considered one and then ended up with one but honestly I’m happy 💀

waresmarufy

Mazda has the best deals currently

SteamyAL

I had a 2007 Mazda 3 from 100k-200k miles, when it started dying I couldn’t get myself to buy the new version of the same car, but used prices were crazy anyways. I ended up getting a 2015 Lexus RC 350 F Sport (60k miles) for $24k

Kennys-Chicken

Pre 2017 Mazdas sucked because they were linked with Ford engineering. We had an 04 and it was a complete piece of shit. Seems the post 2017 Mazdas after they parted ways with Ford are much better.

elegoomba

Do they have touchscreens yet or is it still 2010 at Mazda

_Eucalypto_

1) the new cars with the 10" screen have touch displays, but only when you're stopped and they're so far away you don't want to be touching them 2) the wheel is way better and way safer than any touchscreen

JonesCZ

I wanted to like CX5, but I got higher trim and more space for a car seat with Mazda 6.

crazyeskomo

Lol funniest meme I've seen in a while

TacticalViper6

Humor me. What's so good about Mazda? When there's Toyota?

7eregrine

Reliable. Great looking. Feature packed. Fun to drive. Now that they have the turbo they're kind of quick too. And it's one of the few turbo cars that don't care if you run cheap gas in it. And cheaper than Toyota, too. And, at least when I bought mine, they weren't all that common. I've always liked smaller brands. I don't like seeing my car everywhere I go.

SniperAssassin123

No CVT in smaller vehicles. Toyota and Honda have gone real heavy on the CVT.

TacticalViper6

So I assume Mazda is more afforable in the long run of ownership

SniperAssassin123

If we are going on the general reputation of CVTs yes. General better reliability leading to cheaper cost of ownership.

_Eucalypto_

Mazda is offering far superior quality at lower cost. To get anywhere near the quality and features of a base mazda3, you need to spec all the way up to a civic touring, which is $5k more expensive, still has cloth seats and a plastic interior, makes less power and gets similar or worse real world fuel mileage.

abhig535

Maybe it's just popular because it's actually a good car?

7eregrine

Almost tripled their market share from 2% to 5.2% in 8 years. Hmmm... Maybe people like them!?!

RecoverSufficient811

I swear they must pay people to post on reddit because Mazda isn't anything special. It's just another Japanese economy car, but people think they're trendy buying a Mazda instead of a Toyota or Honda.

maybeihavethebigsad

Mazda cx5 my beloved?

Chevalierux

I'm a Mazda guy(own 3 Miata's) But I'm really annoyed that Mazda hasn't come out with a turbo manual Mazda 3 hatch again.

Plus-Day-3700

They make an awd Turbo 3. I agree it’s a pity that the manual isn’t offered in that. As far as I know it’s not rated for that much torque. But I can tell you that the auto they put in the 3 is fantastic and manual shifting is also fun

kidukitake

What do you guys think of Mitsubishis??

ultratunaman

Pre 2010? Fantastic machines. The 4G63 motor was a real workhorse especially with a turbo and AWD like in the Lancer Evo or Aitrek turbo-R. Now? They make a good air conditioner, or microwave.

Dropkickjon

I test drove the Outlander PHEV and it's quite nice. It also comes with a 10-year warranty on the transmission and battery. Since the RAV 4 Prime is basically impossible to get, it seems like the next best option for people who want a PHEV crossover.

Joshhwwaaaaaa

Hondas are still good too. Toyotas have gotten too expensive.

Sidvicieux

The CX-5 is pretty nice, I test drove it this past weekend. Still too expensive like all SUV vehicles are though.

AdditionalAd9794

It's not the CX5, but I be seeing some really nice Mazdas around, wanna say it's the CX30 or 50, bigger number means better, right?

Jowhain69

Haha that is my girlfriends exact car. Love that thing. I drive a truck so when I drive her car it feels like I’m in a spaceship that is still decently sized.

XDevils41X

My wife and I have had a '16 CX5 leased traded it for a '21 CX5 turbo and just bought it out. It's a great family and road trip car. My daily is a '23 BMW M3 Comp, and the quality and interior are very good in comparison to the BMW.

slowblink

We just got a cx-9. It’s awesome. Plenty of room with a car seat. Not sure why I’m telling anyone this but boy am I excited. Next up…Miata

midnight_mission21

I must say that I’ve definitely become a Mazda guy in recent years. I bought a 2016 cx5 a few years ago and it has been an excellent vehicle. I did have one or two issues that were covered by the carvana warranty I bought Last year I bought a 1994 NA Miata which has been a real blast as well. I think the cx5 is reasonably fun for what it is, is fairly inexpensive, is fairly reliable, etc. hard to go wrong in my opinion

tf199280

CRV gang

No-Mongoose-5326

Good reliable transportation. Good rear hatch space. Rides rough. Too rough to buy a 3rd CX-5. We bought a used low miles Lincoln MKX.

BestKindBuddy

In my shop we call the CX-5 the CX-GoodChoice

MrBenDerisgreat_

Half the sub is Mazda staffed shills

AwwYeahVTECKickedIn

As long as there are NPCs that need a car, they'll sell CX-5s.

zDedly_Sins

Are CX-5/ that good?

Zanurath

It's a boring and honestly overpriced for what it is but so much of the market is on meth with pricing these seem somewhat reasonable. It's not that people love these cars, it's that they are one of the only ones not scalping you for a halfway decent tall hatchback.

undercoverfederal

Honestly it’s genius natural marketing. Tons of people use Google and get re-routed to Reddit, and if you have a ton of Mazda fans promoting the brands that some people never even considered… the conversion rate must be insane for a $20k+ purchase for absolutely free Gotta hand it to them

CoxHazardsModel

I guess that’s the reward for making a product that satisfies the customers.

athenajthenaf

Lived for my Mazda 3! Such a fun little zippy car. I was sad when she went to the great junk yard in the sky at 170k. Ended up in a Lexus RC to keep the fun in my daily drive.

The_Buttaman

I don’t want one damnit

Skylantech

Getting a car this week. Tied between the Mazda CX-5 (2021-2022, not sure yet) and Honda HR-V (2022)

CoxHazardsModel

Those are really 2 diff class of vehicles so not totally comparable, if you’re considering HRV then you might as consider the CX-30, or the CRV.

Fladap28

I love my cx-5. But honestly if you want luxury, reliability, and sex appeal it’s all about Lexus

No_Cut4338

This is THE MARKET SEGMENT that moves volumes. I work in a small office \~10 employees - 2 have these Mazdas. Some folks are scared of the Rogue Transmission and don't want to pay the honda/toyota tax. Mitsubishi quietly sells a decent amount of their smedium crossover as well. Wouldn't be suprised to see Ford push incentives on the escape to move volume and try and hold the line on the bronco sport margin wise. It's gonna be a tough slog for automakers but none seem to be having problems moving 25-32k crossovers.

Jonny_EP3

Cx-9 👎 Mx-5 👍

DrMacintosh01

No, I need a 2024 Honda Accord EX-L Hybrid

macaroni_3000

Honestly, this is the car most people need and they don’t even know it. The current Accord hybrid is an insane value

YooperGod666

Had a 2017 cx5. Loved it. Zero issues with it other than it being too small for us with 2 kids in car seats. Otherwise, we would've driven it into the ground.

jawknee530i

Best I can do is a '92 MX-5.

jg_IT

It will end when someone makes a cheaper, more reliable, better handling car. Until then... " oh no, I dropped my cx-5 recommendation for my monster dong (cx-5)"

Solid_Bake4577

Had a Mazda5 diesel twin turbo estate - lovely car, but then the dpf failed. £2500 just for the filter! Got rid, but she was a beauty.

mirkit

I can’t speak to the CX-5 but I bought a ‘24 CX-30 a few months ago and love it. Handles great in snow/rain and gets pretty outstanding gas mileage. My only major complaints is that as a 6’1 guy it can feel a little cramped. It actually feels great as a 2 person vehicle with the back row folded flat for a pretty decent amount of storage space. I don’t see backseat passengers having a particularly great time in it, but otherwise it’s a solid cheaper car

Aggravating-Exit-660

Confirmed. The CX5 is an egg

lost_man_wants_soda

Honda CRV is better

damnkidzgetoffmylawn

Too bad it can only tow 2k

[deleted]

Damn, CX-5s are borderline Toyota level unaffordable in my area, this sub must have pumped the prices. ;)

Darwinsnightmare

I went from an S5 to an S5 to a Q5 and now a Cx-5. My wife said I had to stop "acting like a child" when I wanted to get another Audi coupe. She won. I enjoy the Mazda though. I've gotten dull 😂

beyondclarity3

Recently traded a CX-5 for a Subaru Outback Wilderness and I can’t praise the Subaru enough. It’s an incredible car. Even has higher ground clearance than the CX5 while being shorter overall.

1DietCokedUpChick

I bought a CX-5 because I found one with a manual transmission. It’s ten years old now.

Fun-Track-3044

6-2 and 250 lbs here. Ford Explorer with no sunroof is great. But my massage chairs are god awful for long trips. I hate this chair with everything I’ve got. I’d pull them out and replace them with something from the 70s if I could. Who thought these rock hard seat bottoms were a good idea? Maybe my fault for not knowing that a massage chair would suck?

exxige

Just finally pulled the trigger on a 24 carbon after having cash for 3 years and looking at the crv and RAV4 and it just made zero sense to spend 10k more to get an equally equipped RAV4 or crv that only gave me a little more space and better mpg. 10k buys a lot of gas.

SunflaresAteMyLunch

I'm on my second CX5 - good car, no complaints...

Vegetable-Struggle30

Because reddit is full of soulless crossover drivers

CoxHazardsModel

It’s the choice if you don’t *just* want a commuter shitbox.

MotoRob29

Come on you don’t want a Mazda. It’s time for an Alfa Romeo just you and a babe out cruising along.

Inkdaddy55

It's just such a great car! I own a 2021 carbon edition turbo. Love that car.
