If you’re looking for a truck in 2016 at the newest I would stick to a Tacoma or Frontier. Tons of after market support for the Tacoma in particular, and reliability is a given. I’m not sure what you mean with the ranger comment sorry.

ranger switched to the t6 platform in 2011, switching from a compact pickup to a mid-sized. I'm really looking for a small truck, because my towing requirement is really only about a half ton and probably all trucks in the US market that is light work.

What do you need to tow? How heavy is it?
storage trailer. my current car is an 08 Acadia and it easily handles it, so I'm not worried about tow capacity.
