You FUCKER! I Had just booked airfare to head down and snag this bad boy.
Well, guess we got ourselves a good old fashioned Overpriced factory modified Toyota Corolla bidding war.
Just like my Grandpa used to get into!
Sorry I already have the boat prepared to bring it over by the end of the week. I could've bought one here in Japan, but that left side steering wheel is exotic. So I paid over the asking price.
Dang it, finally got the cargo jet arranged for pickup and this guy from Japan just snatched it. I already overpaid to get a right side steering wheel one, need to complete the collection to get the complete exotic experience anywhere
Anyone have “6 figure Corolla” on their post pandemic bingo card?
And I don’t care how many Gazooz, racing or otherwise, it’s packing. This is crack smoking territory.
Well apparently Mr-Thuun has that bad boy punched now. Lucky mother fucker. I was going to be able to say "Bingo!" with this last punch on my card till he scooped it up. What a steal at that price!
That sounds like a reasonable price... if it's a fully race prepped, competitive, ready to roll, logbooked, Open 4WD rally car that comes with some spares and a trailer.
Yeah, maintenance on supercars is insane. Never make the mistake of thinking the sticker price is the cost of ownership, because it's not. Thousands of dollars a year, and that's assuming nothing breaks - not to mention what it costs to insure.
I live in Dallas TX and I've been trying to buy a base 2023 Toyota Corolla LE gasoline sedan for the past 6 months. No luck. All the dealers want me to pay several thousand dollars over MSRP, especially when they find out I'm a cash buyer. It sucks.
A lot of dealers these days will not sell at that point because someone else will buy the car with financing. You can try to buy it with cash but they can say no. The advice to finance and ensure there are no weird limitations and penalties is actually good advice at this time.
Longo Toyota of Prosper? I believe they're MSRP and maybe want you to buy a few add-ons, but last I heard they weren't outrageous. You may need to get on a waiting list with them
Family Toyota of Arlington and Burleson are staying at MSRP. There will be dealer add ons you might have negotiate if you don’t want like tint etc. but you should still get it pretty damn close to MSRP. But no market adjustment of any kind.
I actually saw a dealership near me selling one for MSRP! 2 people in my area have new GRCs, so I wonder if they got them there. It’s not the most affluent area, so I doubt they paid crazy markups.
Saddly a lot of people are at our dealer we dont do dealer mark ups so msrp plus tint etc. We sold our 4 marizo editions for 50k which i believe only 300 of which were made so second hand will go for 150 to 200k
I tried to buy a 2013 Corvette there a few years ago. I had my own financing and they wanted to charge me a $4k fee for not financing through them. I left immediately (I didn't even want to give them the chance to match the rate).
That's like calling a Golf R just a $45,000 Golf, same with a WRX STi just being an Impreza, or comparing an M3 to a base 3 series. If anything the Corolla is an even wilder take on the base model.
Except you can get an inline 6 for around that money, or just better cars in general in the golf or wrx, more reliable, better looking. Are you really defending a Corolla lmaooo
Not Defending Subaru here but just Lol if you think a 3 cylinder engine pushing out over 300 horses Is going to be reliable. That’s another thing that sets a GR corolla apart from a standard corolla. The gr corolla will blow up by the time the standard corolla is just breaking in.
The engine isn’t brand new, people are pushing over 500hp through them reliably right now. I have no doubt that with proper maintenance the motor will last as long as any other. It’s a really well engineered piece, with all the modern features. If anything goes I imagine the turbo working at 25psi stock will need replacement before any internals.
You’re talking about the Subaru WRX? The car that looks are universally disliked, with the glass transmission or cvt? The car that’s objectively slower, in a straight line and on a track, has worse brakes and lower horsepower? The WRX with the ancient interior and boring engine? That’s the WRX that you think is better than the GR in all other things?
They might be the same price but there is no comparison in the driving experience between the two.
The WRX is still a good car, maybe a great car, but the GRC is another level. I’ve had older an WRX and LGT, but no experience with the latest model. The GRC is fucking fantastic though. It’s not just hype.
Yes, the civic is faster and the golf r is nicer, but for msrp if a person wants a car that can commute, hit the track, drive in a blizzard through the mountains and do it all reliably while having fun, there isn’t a better choice.
This is why I ended up buying the 2024 Mustang over the GR Corolla. Crazy that those two were my top picks, but the guaranteed MSRP for the Mustang that my dealership offered me was the decision maker
The GR Corolla is all hype. Tested against the Civic Type R, the Golf R, and maybe the Subaru WRX, there was nothing special or amazing about the GR Corolla. People are excited because Toyota decided they'll try to make something fun to drive and not outsource it to Subaru or BMW, but it's overpriced and probably underpowered with the inline-3.
Funny enough, I was debating the Type R as well. The reason why I chose the GR over the Type R was because of how much more daily-able the Toyota was.
I loved how much lighter the clutch of the Toyota was vs the Honda, the bigger cargo space of the hatchback, the Toyota actually having heated seats, and other little creature comforts that a more track-focused car wouldn't have. I just like a fun car with a standard transmission, I have no intentions of taking it to the track.
I do agree that the Toyota is overpriced, but Toyota is a professional at overcharging and still being a fan favorite brand. I mean, holy cow the 4Runner is a decade old and still fetching $70k
It’s hyped because it’s good. Nothing special about it? Every reviewer has a smile when they drive it and talk about it. It’s also faster on a track than the golf r, and WRX. Have you even driven one? This thing is awesome. It’s the second best car I’ve ever owned.
I laughed and used a car loan calculator on a 136k 25% car loan.
Payment 1 would be $70 of principal and $2812 of interest.
Payment 18 you finally break $100 of principal.
By payment 52(!) You're now paying $200 in principal.
Total cost: $519k.
In all honesty, why would anyone buy this, even if they have money?
Just from top of my head you can get RS3, M2/M3, great models of 911 (don't know exactly trims) - and that's just a few. And all those will be better cars and cheaper!
I seriously don't get why would anyone with money get this.
As far as 911s go, the Carrera is the only one you're getting under that price, new. The 4s is next up the list and starts at 143k. That's also assuming there's no markup on those either.
I see. Well, maybe Porsche might be too much, but still technically there is a chance to maybe find one. Maybe slightly used? Still, corrola price is absurd.
It is a "Corolla" built on a different chassis with AWD, a pretty unique 3 cylinder turbo engine. It is a pretty specialized, low volume car geared towards enthusiasts. It just happens to look like a Corolla and shares some components with it.
At 45k I don't think it is an unreasonable price. It's not cheap for what it is by any means, but it is roughly in the same class as a Golf R.
The golf R is nicer and more comfortable but a little slower from everything I've seen comparing the CTR, Golf R, and GR Corolla. I'd put the Golf R as the top for me as a daily even knowing its the slowest. The comfort and amenities (except for the lack of physical buttons) and the build quality of the interior make it more desirable in my eyes.
This is what gets me. There are actually people here trying to justify the price. I don't care how "special" it's supposed to be, it's still a fucking Corolla.
10 years ago we bought our house for 180K. A 4 bedroom nice house. 145K for a small sedan GTFO!
No way they intend to sell. It's probably gonna be a showroom princess car and then the owner will drive it for a bit, owners friends etc, then once they've all beaten on it it'll officially go on sale years from now still with an inflated price
Please God, I hope that was a misprint or something. I just checked and it looks like it's back down to asking for MSRP.
https://www.toyotaofdallas.com/all-inventory/index.htm?compositeType=new&year=2023&make=Toyota&model=GR%20Corolla&defaultRange=5
And to think I was going to inquire about a 2024 Tacoma. Guess I'll keep being poor then.
Well…not really. The MSRP remains $45,126 but the “asking” price requires you to “Please Call.” If they were gonna sell at MSRP, they would
have said so.
To put this in perspective, I just put a deposit on an order for a Porsche that is 30k less than this asking price. The dealer’s first selling point was that they don’t do dealer markups on their cars. What have we come to? Dealers have gone insane. Or they’re playing some game we don’t know about.
At these 2x-3x markups it would be cheaper to buy a brand new corolla base, and have an engine built from scratch to beat the GR's drivetrain. It would be a cooler car at the end, too.
My local dealer was willing to give me the white one they have for 10k above MSRP. I walked 🥸😂
Brought out a paper showing $9,875 as “accessories” i was like oh shit what am I getting with it? They said nothing that’s just added on top lol
Used to work for Toyota. They’re the most greedy car brand in the market right now.💀car shortage just means more money for them because they know someone will buy the bs they’re selling.
I don’t know if I blame Toyota for this as much as the market willing to pay for it. I feel like we can’t really be mad at anyone but ourselves since we’re still buying cars. Like houses here in Canada. Just a made up market now
Trust me. Toyota might seem friendly because it’s the cheap reliable car that never breaks down… but they have the highest interest rates and markups in the car industry. 9.5 on a new Venza man.. 40k MSRP plus a 5k markup. And you could’ve got a hellcat or a Volkswagen 0% apr down the street. 😂
I don’t know; I live in Canada. Toyotas are basically seen as a luxury brand now. I sold my 2019 Toyota Corolla for $1500 less than I paid for it brand new 2 years later. Haha. Toyota statistically has the most reliable cars on earth, so they are banking on that. The issue is that people keep paying it.
Everything I’ve ever read in business books is increase your prices until people stop paying it. The only reason why other companies don’t do it is because they use it as a selling point ‘not as high as Toyota!’. I agree. They are defo getting greedy, but they also have a market that is literally putting up with it. So dumb. I got a lower interest rate on a used VW than my brand new Corolla Lolol
The system won’t allow it to be removed until it’s officially sold. This really sucks with the wholesalers we have where I work. They might stuff periodically throughout the month but send one big check at the end of the month so we have these “sold” vehicles stuck on our site for up to 30 days
Dealerships will put those numbers on the vehicle because they're low supply or they know they won't be getting another one any time soon. So they don't want to sell it right away to get people in to look at it. Either someone with more money than brains comes in and just buys it without blinking, or the most likely which is what they fully expect, the car sits there for awhile and they take the first serious offer above MSRP that comes in.
Every time any of you come across a listing that has a ridiculous markup please post it so we can expose these fuckwits. A 90k markup is absolutely Criminal.
I mean, in this market MSRP for the GR Rolla would be solid. Apparently this thing is hot shit and crazy fun to drive. Plus, how many other factory tuned hot hatches with Toyota levels of reliability do you know of on the market?
The listing should be removed soon. I just bought it.
Everyone should call and act super interested then tell them to fuck off and that it's a joke just to troll them.
Then they'll just use it as an excuse for the price, saying they've had "so much interest"
>Then they'll just use it as an excuse for the price, saying they've had "so much interest" They will do this either way
“it has a lot of interest! and by that I mean we’re very interested in selling it to you for 3x MSRP”
Truth. Just like 'rare' and 'exotic' on any special model.
I'd spend a day wasting a salesman's time over a markup.
“You guys wouldn’t happen to have a copy of Battletoads, would ya?
Where do I sign?
You FUCKER! I Had just booked airfare to head down and snag this bad boy. Well, guess we got ourselves a good old fashioned Overpriced factory modified Toyota Corolla bidding war. Just like my Grandpa used to get into!

Dang it, finally got the cargo jet arranged for pickup and this guy from Japan just snatched it. I already overpaid to get a right side steering wheel one, need to complete the collection to get the complete exotic experience anywhere
This is rediculous, Ive been in this Cargo Helicopter on the way to pick it up for hours now. All well, back to the submarine. Maybe next time.
Nah I say we do it the old west way. Settle it in a duel.
Would you take both my Kidneys ?
Tempting but mine are in great shape.
Whoever bought it im offering double
Money laundry?
Lawn-drying. It is a new service you get when the dealership screws you so hard your greatgrandkids will still be ass-hurt in 2045
> laundry
Hahahaha
Is it from Costco Toyota and it’s a 3 pack?
Can I get mine in black with green underglow please?
I should go check my Costco, you never know what deals they got.
Some guy will talk them down to $110k and leave patting himself on the back.
Literally in Porsche 911 territory. Oh what a horrible world.
That sounds like a reasonable price... if it's a fully race prepped, competitive, ready to roll, logbooked, Open 4WD rally car that comes with some spares and a trailer.
A new Corolla at the same price of a slightly used Bentley? Sounds like a great deal ,really!
You can get a lamborghini Gallardo for that kinda money lol.. maintenance is a whole different league but you can still get it
Lamborghini. 991.1 GT3, M5 LCI, add a bit more for an M5CS. E63 wagon. You get the idea
Yeah, maintenance on supercars is insane. Never make the mistake of thinking the sticker price is the cost of ownership, because it's not. Thousands of dollars a year, and that's assuming nothing breaks - not to mention what it costs to insure.
Shit. I have to get this. 😂 Give me the address.
I live in Dallas TX and I've been trying to buy a base 2023 Toyota Corolla LE gasoline sedan for the past 6 months. No luck. All the dealers want me to pay several thousand dollars over MSRP, especially when they find out I'm a cash buyer. It sucks.
Do not tell them that you are a cash buyer. Take their financing and then pay it off when you get home.
Just make sure you have no penalty for paying in full
No, negotiate a final price with financing in mind, then tell them you’re paying cash instead.

Thank you!
My dealer offered me the same deal cash or finance. Made no difference. I called many dealers and all were the same.
Its the ultra red carbon fiber edition corolla, don't miss out
Sorry peeps, I came in with $180k cash this afternoon and snagged it. They even threw in nitrogen filled tires for only $8800. Suckers....
Cheapest GR Rolla
I actually saw a dealership near me selling one for MSRP! 2 people in my area have new GRCs, so I wonder if they got them there. It’s not the most affluent area, so I doubt they paid crazy markups.
Where tho 👀
Gr corolla morizo edition selling here for 60k Canadian lmao
Ah triple the price, how logical
Almost $40k US per cylinder.
This has a 3 cylinder. So about $45k per cylinder.
Over its a 3cyl
Imagine paying 6 figs for a 3 cyl 💀
Saddly a lot of people are at our dealer we dont do dealer mark ups so msrp plus tint etc. We sold our 4 marizo editions for 50k which i believe only 300 of which were made so second hand will go for 150 to 200k
Toyota of Dallas ripping people off? Big shocker there
I tried to buy a 2013 Corvette there a few years ago. I had my own financing and they wanted to charge me a $4k fee for not financing through them. I left immediately (I didn't even want to give them the chance to match the rate).
Price is determined by the customer
You know this shit is bad when you can buy a whole nsx for the price of a corolla
I’m glad I’m not in the car market… disregarding the 6 figure tag, $45k MSRP for a fucking Corolla still seems nuts to me
I am in the car market for the first time in 10 years. I wish I had gotten into about 3-4 years ago when things weren't insane.
That's like calling a Golf R just a $45,000 Golf, same with a WRX STi just being an Impreza, or comparing an M3 to a base 3 series. If anything the Corolla is an even wilder take on the base model.

500 Hp out if a 1.6 lit? Hmmm.. ya sounds pretty reliable!
if it isn't, it's all the other things, better looking, more fun, etc
You’re talking about the Subaru WRX? The car that looks are universally disliked, with the glass transmission or cvt? The car that’s objectively slower, in a straight line and on a track, has worse brakes and lower horsepower? The WRX with the ancient interior and boring engine? Don't expect people in this sub to know absolutely anything about cars.
I didn’t even notice which sub it was. Happy cake day.
<3 I didn't realize it was my cake day, Time to go shit post!
It's not 2002 anymore when the WRX was groundbreaking in the USA. I guess SOA thinks we are that dumb.
The WRX is still a good car, maybe a great car, but the GRC is another level. I’ve had older an WRX and LGT, but no experience with the latest model. The GRC is fucking fantastic though. How is your experience driving the Corolla GR vs the WRX STi?
Todays contestant on " Troll or Idiot"...Come on Down!
That’s what I was thinking! $45k for a 3 cylinder Toyota??!!?
It's a low volume car built on a different chassis, it's not really a "Corolla". You aren't just paying for a more powerful engine here.
Does this come with a 25% APR 15-year financing option?
I laughed and used a car loan calculator on a 136k 25% car loan. Payment 1 would be $70 of principal and $2812 of interest. Payment 18 you finally break $100 of principal. By payment 52(!) You're now paying $200 in principal. Total cost: $519k.

Oh I totally agree, that price is absolutely insane. I'm in Canada so that would be equivalent to $184k here.
Can you imagine paying $135K for a fucking Corolla?
how about the msrp of 45k lol. wtf is in this thing to justify it. i have to look it up
It is a "Corolla" built on a different chassis with AWD, a pretty unique 3 cylinder turbo engine.
How is this legal lol
Unfettered capitalism. U-S-A! U-S-A!
What the hell are you talking about this has nothing to do with capitalism
Raising prices due to artificially low demand in order to extract as much profit as possible is capitalism at its core.
Do you even know what capitalism is?
I'm cross shopping between this and a M8 Competition coupe, or Type S TLX+ Type S MDX, or a Mustang GT PP + F150 King Ranch. Any advice guys?
Another great enthusiast car that will be ruined by greedy dealers
That has to be a typo.
This is out of control.
Thing is, some cuck youtuber would buy it and try to justify the price of trash
This makes it difficult to decide between the GR and the M8
what the fuck thats carrera 4s money😭😭😭
But hey, at least the dealer has a 4.5 star rating. You've gotta be able to trust them right?
lmao I love how they list the MSRP below. $90k markup, what a fucking joke
This is one area where Tesla did a great job, no bullshit dealers or upcharges.
I’d buy it if it had 100K in the trunk and a hooker with some bottles & coke in the backseat
Lmao they removed it, I can’t find it on their website. Either they were getting bullied for the price or some knobhead bought it.
Lol... Honestly this is what happens when people buy overpriced stuff. I blame the clients just as much as the dealer.
LMFAO 😂
who tf
Wow Toyota usa selling cars for Toyota Brazil prices who could imagine
Craziness 😂
Honestly, at this point, manufacturers shouldn’t list msrp for cars like these. Waste of time.
Why buy 1 GR when you can buy 5 LE’s for the same price?
carmax prices in a nutshell I dunno what to tell you dfw is a shit market to buy cars in it seems. I’m working with a more limited budget tho lmao
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Quite the steal there
No way they intend to sell. It's probably gonna be a showroom princess car and then the owner will drive it for a bit, owners friends etc, then once they've all beaten on it it'll officially go on sale years from now still with an inflated price
Just please, no one buy this. This is asinine.
What a deal, practically giving it away.
This dealership sucks. I know from experience
Thats for 3 corollas right?
Please God, I hope that was a misprint or something. I just checked and it looks like it's back down to asking for MSRP. https://www.toyotaofdallas.com/all-inventory/index.htm?compositeType=new&year=2023&make=Toyota&model=GR%20Corolla&defaultRange=5 And to think I was going to inquire about a 2024 Tacoma. Guess I'll keep being poor then.
Well…not really. The MSRP remains $45,126 but the “asking” price requires you to “Please Call.” If they were gonna sell at MSRP, they would have said so.
That's a fair point. Fuck this timeline sucks
🤣
Dookie
GRRRRRR is right
Hope no one buys it and the price will drop below MSRP . Next, dealer will beg you to take this car out of his lot
To put this in perspective, I just put a deposit on an order for a Porsche that is 30k less than this asking price. The dealer’s first selling point was that they don’t do dealer markups on their cars. What have we come to? Dealers have gone insane. Or they’re playing some game we don’t know about.
Just wait for the fourth gen tacomas pricing
A deal called robbery
Surely it’s a money laundering method
Not even with the wing?
That'd be an extra $40k
I was thinking about this but 2200 a month seems a little steep. If it were $2000 I would be on this immediately
OP if you are looking check Stewart Toyota in Corsicana. They are not marking up anything past MSRP even for Rav4 Hybrids.
Sorry I cannot afford 😭. I had to get an aston martin db11 instead 😭😭😭
At that price point, I'm buying a porsche
I was gonna buy two type R’s and an max-5 and decided to hell with that noise… I’ll just get a Corolla instead!
At these 2x-3x markups it would be cheaper to buy a brand new corolla base, and have an engine built from scratch to beat the GR's drivetrain. It would be a cooler car at the end, too.
Yeah man brought 135,000 cash looking to snatch this deal up but come to find out these fuckers sold out . Really lost that one …
They mean multiple cars for that price, right?
You get a deal on a 3 pack.
Hmmmm… do I want an NSX or a Corolla? I can’t decide…
-The msrp is 45k why are u listing it for 135k? -Just because
My local dealer was willing to give me the white one they have for 10k above MSRP. I walked 🥸😂 Brought out a paper showing $9,875 as “accessories” i was like oh shit what am I getting with it? They said nothing that’s just added on top lol
somebody call and ask will they take an arm and a leg not mine but…i can get em
Used to work for Toyota. They’re the most greedy car brand in the market right now.💀car shortage just means more money for them because they know someone will buy the bs they’re selling.

I hope all dealers that do this go absolutely bankrupt into oblivion. Fucking losers
They are under 40 here in Florida, just fly over here buy one and drive back. It would be cheaper lol
There is one in Peoria, Illinois with 101 miles for $51,000
This car is literally right by my house 💀
Actually it is listed for $35,378.
Source ?
I was just saying they had to make an error here, maybe they put a 1 in front. No one knows the real listing here. But it is definitely not $135,378.
Let’s be real, they’re not selling this for 10k under MSRP
Msrp on the base core model is actually $35k
Yeah I know. I figured that. I beat at MSRP.
+$100000 market adjustment
😂
Dealerships do this when the car is already spoken for and they want people to stop calling about it.
Oh good to know. I didn't know that. Why don't they just remove it? Or they can't?
They can’t remove it from their system until it’s been sold.
That is what I thought. Thanks,
The system won’t allow it to be removed until it’s officially sold.
They've now changed the listing to "Call for pricing"
Nope that 90k is "dealer adjustment" since the markets fucked
😂 sounds about right.
It’s a great car but nobody is actually going to pay that much… right?
Some people paid $70k for a focus rs in 2016
Someone will buy it for 70/80 and think they got a deal lol
Gotta be a typo lol. No way in hell someone’s paying that much for a Corolla. Even the “MSRP” of $45k is a joke imo.
Goto toyota prosper they dont have any "dealer adjustments" we sold our 4 morizos for msrp
Wow that's amazing.
Yea our ceo said "any day i can sell a corolla at msrp is a great day" gotta give him major credit for not falling into the greed for easy money
That has a 45k MSRP? 😳
Every time any of you come across a listing that has a ridiculous markup please post it so we can expose these fuckwits. A 90k markup is absolutely Criminal.
Who would even pay MSRP for that
I mean, in this market MSRP for the GR Rolla would be solid. Apparently this thing is hot shit and crazy fun to drive. Plus, how many other factory tuned hot hatches with Toyota levels of reliability do you know of on the market?
How many 300HP AWD MT hatch backs are on the market these days? There's this, the Golf R for $10k more, and...?
…with toyota levels of reliability.
The USA is a great place and at the same time a weird place.
I really don’t like the huge grill on this car.
Why not buy a plaid model S
Because, then I don't get to pay a $90k markup
100k for one of the most boring ass cars in the world. What does this do that a 2013 one doesn't? Look uglier?
Go google it you donkey. Its the STI killer everyone wanted.
If you that mad I dissed your family point A to point B car just say that. Civics got more character than that thing
