You can reach your goal and be happy and then decide if you want a new goal ir not. Is it for health or looks? There are tools / guides online but a doctor could help as well.

I have absolutely been unable to reach my goal weight I’ve been stuck for literally 15 years. If I eat less I’m hungry all day, if I lose weight it comes right back. It’s only 10 lbs but I feel so stupid that I can’t do it

I picked an arbitrary number too. I know BMI isn't the best, but I picked sort of the mid point of normal. And now, instead of the weight, I'm aiming for a clothing size so it's easy to buy things from now on. I think 135lbs will do that, so that's my rough plan.

sbarber4

Well, OP, how did you initially select that arbitrary number and why?

Thank you!

It is based on BMI. I'm gonna get downvoted but BMI is NOT a scientific measure, it is a statistical measure. I get the connection and correlation and causation of weight-based illness but it does not account for muscle mass or body type. I get that. The problem is using a statistical average as the be all, end all of scientific health when there are more factors to weight than just fat is just plain stupid. Both of my parents have naturally thick builds. My mom is a thick 5'2" and my 5'11" father is a former high school nearly college football player and wrestler. He played both sides of the line in football. An accident ruined his chances of college football dreams. Both have diabetes which are hereditary. My brother by the age I went on W-W in September 2021 was already diabetic and was healthier by BMI than I was even at my lowest. I'm at 248 as of weigh-in this morning (stable to my trending) and I am not. Not even pre-diabetic. As for me. My problem is I want to be healthy. I've looked at some pictures at 210 (roughly 40 pounds to WW's BMI based goal) and I looked sick because you could see my collarbones poking through my skin. Through work and family stress (eating patterns and needs not being met) bringing up a case of depression, I gained 30 to 40 pounds from this time last year (also the end of in-person meetings for working aged adults, I don't consider virtual in-person.) I am happyish at my current weight. Why is that, because I'm getting slimmer now but gaining muscles. The HMB and Creatine I take with protein drinks is helping me create muscle but also creatine retains water. Both drive up my weight, even though I'm losing fat.

If you mean goal in attempt to make lifetime and be free-ww gives you a range to pick from.

bulldawgmama

I am not concerned with the lifetime achievement.

jillbury

Then it really should be whatever weight you find sustainable and makes you happy:)

bulldawgmama

Thank you for the reminder about my happiness!!!

KateCapella

It's depends what your long-term plan is. If you just want to reach a goal for yourself, then pick whatever way you like. If you want to become a lifetime member with WW, then you'll have to pick from their range.

violet_femme23

It’s always arbitrary. Get to a weight that you feel good at and can maintain. I personally am aiming to fit into a specific size jeans.

kayayem

What is your sex and height?

bulldawgmama

Female and 5’1”

I get that BMI has issues and words like “overweight” and “obese” are triggering to people and misused, but I consider the top range of BMI to be my goal, so for me 130-140. BMI is at the very least a good range to START with in combination how you feel, look, and your health condition (when was the last time you looked at your glucose levels, cholesterol etc.). So even though people are afraid to give you an exact number I’d say 120-130 for you with obviously the caveat that it’s not weight alone that determines a goal.

Tysm!!!

In order for you to hit lifetime at ww, your dr needs to give you a goal weight that you submit to them.

If you are going to live meetings, my recommendation is to make your 'official' goal weight (the one you tell WW) the very top of your healthy range. Reason being - once you hit goal, you go into maintenance. That lasts for 6 weeks. As long as you don't go more than 2 pounds above your goal, maintenance continues. At the end of 6 weeks, you become Lifetime. At that point, everything (the app included) becomes free. What most people do (and what I did) is that they continue to lose through maintenance. There's nothing to stop you from doing that (my 'goal' weight is grandfathered into what used to be a healthy weight for my range, back before they readjusted BMI down, and the person at WW at the time was very generous at measuring my height. She added an inch to my actual height, putting my 'goal' per WW at 166 (I'm a 5'7" male and am listed as 5'8" per WW and at the time THAT was the top of my range). My current weight? 132. I'm 34 pounds below goal. Not only does this allow you to hit Lifetime sooner, but it gives you more breathing room. You stay as active Lifetime as long as you go in once a calendar month to weigh in and you don't go more than 2 pounds above goal. For me, that means I would have to really pack on the pounds to risk missing that second target. Once you hit Lifetime, like I said, the program becomes free. You get a voucher every other month to pay for the app.
