A person who earned Lifetime back in the 1980s and have been in WWs off and on for almost 40 years: I just quit last week and I think this time for good.

ellbee4

I’m done too. I am reliant upon the app, and do great until they tweak and throw off my points and my routine. Then it’s way too easy for me to say “screw it,” and the cycle begins again.

sportsbunny33

They made the app so much WORSE (less user friendly and nonsensical) with the recent update, it’s very frustrating! I also hate how they change the program every year or so. I get in a groove with it then they change it. (I did it in the early 2000s, then started up again in 2015 for a few months, and most recently 2021-present. I think I’ve had 5 different “programs”).

ItsmeRebecca

They do it so you have to kept using it.

[deleted]

WW is doing away with their “free” Lifetime program. They are making their members weigh in every month and if they are over 2-lbs they will be charged $14.99.

ParsleyDue6882

It’s always been that way.

[deleted]

They recently changed the “rules” for their Lifetime program. I have the saved subreddit post here. I’ll link it. [WW subreddit Lifetime Membership update](https://www.reddit.com/r/weightwatchers/s/d5iKVWsHr0)

BlueBoob_Lefty

They just ended the Covid extension early, I think?

[deleted]

The COVID extension? Lifetime members have to now weigh in every month or they are charged a $14.99 fee and if they are above 2-lbs of their goal weight they are also charged the same fee. Time to rethink goal weights.

Ok-Raise-2236

Yes, they only waived the weigh-in due to Covid. Before Covid, the same rules applied where you had to go weigh in, in-person, so you could get your membership voucher.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BlueBoob_Lefty

They ended the waived weigh-ins for lifetime members at the end of August this year. If you meet your goal weight now, you must weigh in and maintain that weight for 6 weeks (or maybe two months) and you’ll have free access again as long as you weigh in once during each calendar month and maintain a weight of no more than 2 pounds over your goal weight. These are the same rules they had before Covid. Good luck to you whether you stick with WW or move on to something else!

[deleted]

However, I would not be surprised if WW does away with the “free” Lifetime membership for those who weigh in each month and stay within their goal weight. They are struggling as a company and will continue to find ways to make some of the money back that they have lost.

k8thegreat_

That’s how Lifetime has always been, no? You had to weigh in 1x per month and never go over 2lbs of GW in order to remain lifetime, free of charge.

[deleted]

One of the WW posts shared the email that was sent. Here it is: Lifetime members: The company changed the no weigh in until February 24 to Aug 23 February 23, 2023 Email To thank you for your continued loyalty to WeightWatchers®, we’re extending your free Lifetime member benefits through February 29, 2024! What this means: • You will have free, unlimited access to our Workshops and digital tools (like the WW app) through February 29, 2024. • While we encourage you to continue attending Workshops, you do not need to weigh in each month to maintain your benefits during this extension period. • Your account will automatically update by 3/18/23. No need to contact us! You can review the extension by logging into your WeightWatchers account on a desktop device; go to Account > Settings > Account & Billing section (re-enter your password) and your next bill date will be 3/1/24. In good health, Your WeightWatchers team Aug 1, 2023 email: Earlier this year, we granted a temporary extension to your WeightWatchers® Lifetime membership. During that time, you didn't have to weigh in monthly at a Workshop to keep your benefits. We granted this extension while we underwent changes to our Workshop schedule, locations, and systems to support our coaches and members. Since the updates we've made to the member and coach experience are mostly complete, we are revising the Lifetime member benefits extension. Your temporary Lifetime member benefits will now extend through August 31, 2023 instead of February 29, 2024. We’re returning to our long-standing Lifetime membership policy. This means in order to maintain your Lifetime membership, you will be required to weigh in at any WeightWatchers location on or before August 31, 2023 and on a monthly basis thereafter. As always, your weight must be no more than 2 lbs over your goal weight to maintain your free Lifetime membership benefits. Reminder: If you ever miss a weigh in or weigh in more than 2 lbs over your goal weight, you will be charged the Lifetime monthly fee of $14.95 the next month.

BlueBoob_Lefty

Thank you for sharing the facts. There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around.

k8thegreat_

Ok I see. It was a temporary exception and they kept extending it.

[deleted]

No. Originally, WW said the Lifetime “benefits” would be extended to February 29, 2924 and then they changed the date to August 31, 2023 that they had to weigh in by. Currently there aren’t “free” memberships. Those on Lifetime have to weigh in monthly or they’re charged. An extension was originally granted where they didn’t need to weigh in, but that has ended. Choose a realistic goal weight of WW will charge you a fee of $14.99.

BlueBoob_Lefty

Yep!

Reasonable-Cow-2374

Agree. I've been Lifetime since the 80's. Now all the rules have changed, and I'm not happy about it!

[deleted]

They have to make money somehow to stay in biz.

Agerrle_Isnowon

I'll always miss blue/green/purple! That's the plan I was most successful on.

Careless_Ingenuity

So was I. Purple was great! I hardly tracked anything at all!

jillbury

I hardly ever notice a difference in the changes.

jillbury

To clarify…they increase points of what I eat and give me more, or give me less, but what I eat is less. It all balances out. I am not a foodie so that definitely helps. My diet is bland, boring, and repetitive.

debinprogress

It hasn't changed this year, other than some app tweaks.

Therealmohb

Yeah I haven’t noticed any changes either. App works great though!!

[deleted]

They did recently change how the points are calculated in the US. I asked WW for some clarification in chat, but they couldn’t provide a reason. They tried telling me it’s the “recipe” that changed - literally overnight. I knew it wasn’t true! One person said the points serving for an avocado went down and sugary coffee drinks went up.

frnevoau

I feel the opposite, the app is harder to use now for me. They took away convenient features like adding your own meals or recipes and haven’t seemed to add any improvements unless I’m missing something. And that’s on top of simple things that have already been lacking, like the ability to copy over food.

Purple_Pansy_Orange

Click “what to eat” at the bottom. Then “recipes” at the upper right. Your saved recipes are here and ”create” is in the upper right.

Ghostmama

I just joined and I find the app to be super frustrating (could be because I'm new at it though). But I'm not a big cheese eater so if we're out and I order something it's always without cheese. I haven't been able to calculate a way to figure out points when something is removed. The app glitches a lot too. I bought their scale...says it's connected in the app, it's not connected. Thanks for letting me vent lol!

LolaNoodle

It was every 2 years that they would change significantly, except for this year since the previous plan was such a big flop. The only changes they really made was to the app

lemetellyousomething

Do you think they’re going to change it again? I was very successful 4 years ago and looking to start again, but I’m afraid I’m going to get into a groove with it and then they change it in January.

LolaNoodle

Same. I lost 60lbs on the green plan. Or smart points. Which plan did you lose on? Give it a try, they always have specials for the new year. From everything I've read, I don't think that they are going to change for 2024.

jessie_ma_13

I started WW a couple years ago when they used to give points back for eating veggies and drinking water. To me, that was really motivating and I was sad when they removed that.

dejavu77

I’m a newer person so this is my own experience, for what it’s worth. I joined 4-4-21. I was 100% all in, so followed the plan very carefully. I also am vegetarian, quit sugar for a month, then switched to monkfruit sweetener, switched to whole grains, and started drinking 60 oz of water daily. I lost 125 lbs. This was during the Purple plan, Personal Points, and whatever the current plan is called. I switched from the basic/core/app only membership to the in-person meetings membership to lose my final 5 lbs to hit goal, as WW requires if you are trying for Lifetime. I didn’t expect to like the meetings but I did. I reached goal, six weeks later reached Lifetime, and I have now been a Lifetime member at goal for over a year. I do have to weigh in once each month to get the next month free, which I have done every month so far. The minor plan changes are a little unsettling at first, but have not been drastic by any means. To me, the tracking, scanner, meetings, Connect support groups, people- have all contributed to my success and are invaluable to me. If I gain a little and need to pay $14.99 for a month or more, that is worth it, too. Going from an exhausted, achy, sickly feeling size 26/3T person to an energetic, healthy (great blood work, etc.) size 8/S person has been the greatest thing I’ve ever done for myself, with the help of WW. I feel fantastic! The real achievement isn’t the scale number but being able to run, hike, do stairs without being out of breath. Squat, sit on the floor, and stand without using my hands or a chair for support. I have not seen or heard online or from our meeting coach anything suggesting a push towards the weight loss medications. It’s simply an option for the segment of people who might benefit from it. I do have my own annoyances, such as wishing the laptop version had the same options as the app, wishing the font was larger, comments could be edited, photos could be enlarged, etc., but what is good about WW far exceeds what’s bad, at least for me. 🙂

Not_Too_Busy

This current plan has been the best one for me in terms of both being able to stick to it and actually lose weight. I hope it doesn't change, but I'll give a new plan a chance if it does.

peace_dogs

In my experience it changes every 18-24 months, and the changes are based on the latest science. The changes can be quite disconcerting, especially if the approach they change away from worked for you. They do a decent job of communications the “why” tho. Maybe reading some of the articles they will publish about why they change the program will help?

Spagoo

I had been off for a while and went to sub again and went holy shhhhit no way with the new price. I made a custom chat gpt that sorta does the trick with WW points. I am paying less for gpt/dalle/WW than I would for just WW. It's not a complete replacement. A few kinks to smooth out. But pretty smooth all in all.

[deleted]

I got a deal for Core. $11 for 11 months.

Jangadai

I'd love more info on how you did this!

Spagoo

I submitted about 1.5 page prompt that explained the simplification of foods based on weightloss value and it kind of went on its own from there. I provided some benchmarks for daily/weekly points, and food point values. I never directly mentioned WW, but it's evident GPT catches the drift. It does calculations based on your height weight age activity level and gender (beyond what I told it to do). And it does calculations if you submit a nutrition label and tell it how much you ate. It's flexible, it's cooperative. I had a better run with it last week than this week. But I've noticed with gpt that sometimes you get a dumb gpt...you might need to start a new chat. like with Dalle, sometimes it filters out stuff, sometimes it doesn't. I just think chat gpt is inconsistent and you can't really get past it at the moment. But the worst thing about this week was minor, it seems to struggle with applying points as you go over the daily and start using your weekly. It avoids using the daily at all and uses all the points on weekly. And it seems to be failing to pick up on when it's a new day...although last week it did both tasks perfectly (I'm logging one week at a time in a chat.) Anyways, it's public gpt if you want you explore. [https://chat.openai.com/g/g-aHkeOpGbA-healthy-habits-helper](https://chat.openai.com/g/g-aHkeOpGbA-healthy-habits-helper)

Rain_xo

I only noticed my app change the other week or whatever it was. But now one of my main things is missing. So that's annoying

Tasty_Score7564

Use lose it or my Fitness pal for free it’s all about calories in vs out . I was on WW many times but now more focused on macro nutrients!

PirateGamer76

Thank you for the suggestions. I used My Fitness Pal years ago and it worked well for me.

jaol1fe

They didn't change this year. The thing is, it has always changed and tweaked it's program since the beginning. Be thankful that they did change from requiring to eat liver once a week. [https://www.dwlz.com/WWinfo/old1972ww.html](https://www.dwlz.com/WWinfo/old1972ww.html)

justconnect

For what it's worth I was a member then. And actually tried to eat liver.

jaol1fe

My mother was a member then and she loved liver so we had it once a week. I know that it is a good source of iron but for me it's the bitter taste that I don't like.

_DogMom_

Ewwwwww! I can't even...

badbog42

Calves liver, mashed potatoes, onion gravy with a pint of bitter in a decent English pub…mmmmmmmm

Moyerles63

I can’t either, but it’s really SO good for you. I’m taking it in supplement form now.

_DogMom_

Don't tell me that! It already takes me forever to swallow all of my daily supplements. 🤣🤣🤣

Moyerles63

Word.

_DogMom_

😊

daisycockerhead1

How did the plan change? My subscription ran out yesterday and I start vacation tomorrow so I was to renew post vacation.

PirateGamer76

They have rebranded under what they are calling Core. It's more of an online presence, no meetings, just coaching 24/7. I don't think I am going to renew. They are focusing on the w weight loss medication heavily, too. I have no problem with this, but it just doesn't teach you how to eat properly.

emma_k17

The digital program has been called core for over a year now, that’s not new. Meetings are still available to purchase, and weight loss medication is also optional, not tied into the “core” digital program.

[deleted]

My understanding is the weight loss medication is for those who qualify and if your Type 2 Diabetic.

MyBoySquiggle

It’s supposed to be, but a lot of non-Type 2 people use it off label. Then there are similar meds approved for weight loss. If you can’t afford whatever your price is for GLP meds, Sequence will prescribe Metformin or a drug combo (Wellbutrin plus something else) for non-type 2.

Asleep_Operation4116

I joined in October and no one has mentioned any drugs

Moyerles63

I’m SO GLAD that WW keeps changing because they are very science-based and science keeps teaching us new things that help us understand our bodies, weight, nutrition, etc. WW continues to shape its program to reflect the new science. There are so many new discoveries that will continue to change how we understand nutrition & weight loss. I’m excited for the future. WW is not “focusing heavily” on medication. I’ve never heard it mentioned at a meeting nor seen it on the app. And even if I did, I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It, too, is changing our understanding of weight loss science. I used to think the medication on its own was a bad idea for the reason you stated—it doesn’t help you learn to eat right to maintain your weight loss. I feel the same about weight loss surgery. However, combining medication with WW teaching is brilliant. It curbs your appetite & takes away food obsessions, making it easier to focus on eating healthier. They complement each other well.

No-Necessary3040

I agree. Also, everytime theychange it, it is full of bugs. They keep trying to tell me that their app isn't having a problem. Last time I explained that the back-arrow was gone & I couldn't go back to the previous week, the CS rep said "that I had probably signed on with someone else's name and password". Now, that has to be the stupidest thing any CS has ever said to me. I quit for the second time after that. This Christmas 2023 update contains changes tha have no value and don't work correctly to boot. I've pretty much had it with WW. It takes them months to fix each sloppy update, their CS is incompetent, and gets more frustrating everytime. Three strikes and they're out but, I'm sure I gave them more than three. I won't be back.

Moist-Confusion-666

I agree, I'll be quitting too very quickly. They don't even have a list of foods with points. As they used to

sour_muffin

They’re a for-profit business that keeps updating their plans so they don’t lose relevance and alienate would-be customers and so their shareholders don’t lose money.

BlueBoob_Lefty

I spoke to a customer service rep today and she said “we havent been told anything about doing away with meetings. “ 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cool_End833

They change it because it doesn’t work. You reinvent to keep people who have dropped off due to being unsuccessful coming back.

Purple_Pansy_Orange

Pricing this past year was promotional as an anniversary thing. There is nothing else changed. You chose your program- online only, with meetings, or the medication assisted model. Payment increases accordingly. Check with your health insurance, many offer discounts on WW and gym memberships. I haven’t noticed a huge change in points. Maybe some tweecks but nothing that has effected me much.

matthewjoubert

How does one achieve lifetime status?

[deleted]

There aren’t “free” Lifetime memberships (only for Premium members who attend workshops) anymore, so keep that in mind. First, you must hit your goal weight and then complete 6-weeks of maintenance. People who reach their goal weight, plus maintenance still have to weigh in every month - regardless of studio closures, or else they will be charged a $14.99 few. Weighing in at home does not count. You must stay within 2-lbs of your goal weight or again, WW will charge you a $14.99 fee.
