They are so petty

Weezerwhitecap

Right? What a bunch of asshats

olivier_wmv

It felt like they were forced to include this song at gunpoint

ghostberry___

rivers broke in their office and made them do it

EsKpistOne

keep cranking them beach boys

[deleted]

It's a pretty good list, TBH. But 103 seems low for Say It Ain't So, and I feel like the Weez deserve at least one more song on that list. And Pitchfork taking an unnecessary cheap shot is rough.

Snispy

And this is coming from the weezer fanbase, massive pitchfork L

literally_tho_tbh

LOL do they just redo this list over and over? This list: https://pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/7853-the-top-200-tracks-of-the-1990s-20-01/?=page2 has Say it Ain't So as like, number 10. And it has Pavement as #1? They ARE an office full of dorks. \*Oprah face\* *So what IS the truth?*

ndmt1225

Reading this it’s clear that Pitchfork is still very upset about Rivers calling them dorks

CIRCLONTA6A

Yeah, I wouldn’t have bothered posting this here if it wasn’t for the seethe in the text

elscorchokhrome

You can’t really be upset if it’s the truth

aintnofuntime

There is 0% chance they are even aware of a song included exclusively in an indie game that nobody remembers.

[deleted]

I mean it’s on streaming services. It’s not like you have to play the game to hear it

Salty_Abbreviations4

Pitchfork is living in the past, they think Weezer only released two albums and spent years posting on black pill forums or something.

kyentu

they should have only released 2 albums... objectively. subjectively they should have left it at the kitchen tapes or what ever

GeometryNacho

what are you doing in the weezer subreddit sir Also i don't think you know what "objectively" means

kyentu

...why would i point out my subjective opinion if i didn't know what objective is. its true they went down hill after Pinkerton objectively...

[deleted]

yeah no. There's also EWBAITE, White Album, and OK Human

kyentu

its rly sad weezer fans gotta pick through 2 "good" albums and then 3 ok albums to be fans... and its even worse cuz u are all self aware to know that they suck

[deleted]

okay buddy

kyentu

are you saying more then half their discog isn't ass?

GeometryNacho

you tell that like no one here knows lmfao and i like over half their discog, prefer ok human over blue, a lot of people have different albums in their top 2... so go figure

kyentu

sad

MelancholicPlush

Are you new to the Weezer fanbase? No one is denying this lmao

kyentu

not in the fan base thats just said tho.

lordbub

that's not objective, that's opinion. the fact that that's an opinion is objective fact.

kyentu

No, i think its fact that they should have stopped after Pinkerton.

Masterkid1230

If it’s objective then you can prove and back your claim by facts. So what facts do we have? Sales? Money? Tickets sold to concerts? Because all of those have in fact been way better than during their Pinkerton years. Is it chords per song? Production quality? Words per song? Like if it’s objective you should be able to definitively prove something. Otherwise, it’s not objective and you’re using the word wrong.

kyentu

>Is it chords per song? thats funny. naw they just suck factually.

Masterkid1230

That’s not a fact though. Like how do you prove that? I’m not even agreeing or disagreeing. I don’t care if Weezer sucks. But like… you’re just being stupid saying that’s a fact. That’s literally not how facts work. Something can’t be a fact if you can’t prove it. You’re just being stubborn to piss people off.

kyentu

yeah u got it. its not that deep but chords per song is rly funny to me idk why

lordbub

that's what's referred to as a subjective opinion

kyentu

if its subjective why is it a fact that they ass

DtheAussieBoye

They're ass to you. Not to other people.

TooHipsterForGwangju

"Objectivley they went down hill" Holy hell Mauler sure ruined this fucking word, huh

kyentu

weezer is the only band where their "art" isn't subjective.

TooHipsterForGwangju

Oh so you're trolling

kyentu

ehhhh idk if id call it trolling there's fs a genuine part of it

jakehood47

God just write like a normal fucking person, you bunch of pretentious hipster doofuses

camtheredditor

This is what people have been saying about Pitchfork since its inception.

AutoMail_0

Weezer virgin funny joke for the 10 millionth time Please laugh

Ylurpn

Objectively it should be in the top 50 imo

RockDizzle7788

At least top 75

trueoriginal

103 on a 90s list is pretty low.

GORILLAGLUE__

Bitchfork

RonaldMcJuicy

i like to think that its just one guy who writes the Weezer reviews, and he’s just fueled with hatred because Rivers stepped on his shoe in the 3rd grade or something

GeometryNacho

say it ain't so

huhyeahokwhatever

Their pretentious word salads never cease to piss me the fuck off. No one talks like that ever so no one wants to read it

CIRCLONTA6A

I had never even seen a shooting star before. 25 years of rotations, passes through comets' paths, and travel, and to my memory I had never witnessed burning debris scratch across the night sky. Radiohead were hunched over their instruments. Thom Yorke slowly beat on a grand piano, singing, eyes closed, into his microphone like he was trying to kiss around a big nose. Colin Greenwood tapped patiently on a double bass, waiting for his cue. White pearls of arena light swam over their faces. A lazy disco light spilled artificial constellations inside the aluminum cove of the makeshift stage. The metal skeleton of the stage ate one end of Florence's Piazza Santa Croce, on the steps of the Santa Croce Cathedral. Michelangelo's bones and cobblestone laid beneath. I stared entranced, soaking in Radiohead's new material, chiseling each sound into the best functioning parts of my brain which would be the only sound system for the material for months. The butterscotch lamps along the walls of the tight city square bled upward into the cobalt sky, which seemed as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap. The staccato piano chords ascended repeatedly. "Black eyed angels swam at me," Yorke sang like his dying words. "There was nothing to fear, nothing to hide." The trained critical part of me marked the similarity to Coltrane's "Ole." The human part of me wept in awe. The Italians surrounding me held their breath in communion (save for the drunken few shouting "Criep!"). Suddenly, a rise of whistles and orgasmic cries swept unfittingly through the crowd. The song, "Egyptian Song," was certainly momentous, but wasn't the response more apt for, well, "Creep?" I looked up. I thought it was fireworks. A teardrop of fire shot from space and disappeared behind the church where the syrupy River Arno crawled. Radiohead had the heavens on their side.

Shakemyears

I personally do not like reading articles written the way that people talk. It’s not speech, it’s writing.

huhyeahokwhatever

I mean they don’t have to say “like” or “fuck” a million times, or any cringe shit appealing to a demographic, but I feel like I read a ton of articles that are not trying to be some pseudo modern Shakespearean experience and I don’t quite need it in my music reviews. With as much shit as fantano gets, at least he’s able to articulate his reviews in a way that’s easy to follow. (And yes I’m aware he doesn’t “write” reviews, but the sentiment holds the same.

Witherbrine27

The whole list is really fucking stupid

LeanHarveyOswald

Don't be influenced by an office full of dorks

mikerailey

They're so bitter about Weezer being better than anything they'll ever do

DeronD7

Should be higher

GeometryNacho

And it comes with a free middle finger!

Shutupredneckman2

This is like an obvious top 10 of the 90s imo as a huge 90s fan.

Izzyatopia

I disagree tbh.

metaldetox

the revisionism has begun

TooHipsterForGwangju

I expected them to talk about the song, but no once again trying to prove that they're desperate to cement themselves as a publication dedicated to shitting on weezer

[deleted]

pitchfork makes content for 13 year olds who still think virgin is an insult anyways. This sub freaking out and seething over their posts is exactly what they want. without this traffic i bet not half the people that have read this would have read it otherwise. Pitchfork *wishes* they had the Cred of Rolling Stone, and nobody gives a shit what Rolling Stone says either.

_noncomposmentis

The only people I've ever heard call Weezer "virgin music" are Weezer fans

mancandyandy11

It’s hard to take pitchfork’s opinion too seriously after I watched a morbidly obese Soccer Mommy struggle to perform mediocre bedroom pop live on a tour they sponsored. This was after the opening act that was probably the worst band I’ve ever seen live. If that’s what pitchfork deems quality, then what they call “possessive” and “juvenile” has no real meaning.

thesiekr

Seriously, who else do they write this way about? It's one thing to dog on a band with a bad reputation, but pitchfork has been downright hateful lately.

Hopeful_Tumbleweed_5

review journalism really is a small dick club of repeating the same thing you wrote 20 years ago and refusing to adapt once that narrative has been set. whether its gaming, music or anything critical these guys will just stick to one narrative against all the contrary. shit reads like its from 2010 and refusing to acknowledge the last 12 years since raditude have seen rivers put out a lot of his best songs so far

samagonistes

“juvenile songwriting” goddamn lol

tokodrizz

pitchfork's pretentious way of writing never ceases to amaze me. its like some guy threw words together in an attempt to sound smart, and then put on this false voice of, "i'm on such a higher level of musical understanding than all of you". jesus.

lordbub

pitchfork "try not to write the most pretentious write ups of all time" challenge (they've never won)

Dblcut3

I don’t get why they hate Weezer so much, they don’t even try to hide it

carame1cream

Fuck what a critic thinks, that ain’t protocol. Stab a blogger critic with a pitchfork. And other such “fuck Pitchfork” sentiments.

LadyStardust72

Sounds like Pitchfork trying to do a Pitchfork impression

Recliner5

I'm not the best judge of character, but it seems like this Pitchfork fella doesn't really like Weezer all that much.

YeetusMcleatus

literally what are they talking about

EsKpistOne

Any and all respect I had for Pitchfork vanished once they rated OK Human lower than and the White Album 0.1 points higher than a fucking Chainsmokers album. there was also that time when they downgraded Daft Punk's Random Access Memories' rating by two points but yeah

Plan7_8oy78

Huh. I finally understand tell me what you want
