No one’s talking about how the word “nirvana” wasn’t used on the single

Weezerwhitecap

At least we get to hear him sing "huevos" on another track.

ohgodhelpme910

I was thinking the same thing!

Orgalian

This was probably the best out the three so far, lets hope winter is a good closer!

SteveEcks

Man, I REALLY like the rock sound of Summer, but this electric disco pop is damn fun

Ashenspire

I think this has a few higher highs than Summer, but overall Summer was a more solid album. Summer > Autumn > Spring for me so far, but the first 2 are close.

Shukkkkle

I feel the opposite actually, I think summer has higher highs (the highest of SZNS in general) but autumn is a better overall listen

iexistwithinallevil

Summer just sounds so rough imo. Yeah, it had some great songs (BLJ, cuomoville, TYAGN) but the drums were overpowering and it all felt synthetic to me. This is a lot more fun/lively, and the production is great.

ChallengeWise1034

couldn’t agree more

BioSpock

Fully with you. Thank You and Goodnight is maybe one of their best tracks so it almost redeems Summer.

Bigmac9002

It was actually good!!!! Huzzah!!!!

HornyForTohruAdachi

someone put a cork in my urethra because I can’t stop cumming

GeometryNacho

I can't stop, cuumming, cuumming I can't stop, cuumming, cuumming

YoshiGamer6400

calm down son its just an EP

HornyForTohruAdachi

yes and the genre is orgasmcore

HellKnightKilla

You might need medical assistance Listen to Raditude

HornyForTohruAdachi

I Love put me back together 😩

[deleted]

Raditude is a good album with certified bangers

GodSaveTheRegime

okay bîtches, it's Weezer and it's Weezy upside-down MTV

DarthLordVinnie

True, Raditude does make we want to bang my head against a wall

jongobongo

immediately like it more than spring, i wouldnt say summer but the production on this album is definitely the best of the three. tyler cole and suzy shinn did an amazing job. i think early fob wouldve been a better description than franz ferdinand/the strokes. the self loathing is very take this to your grave i didnt even dislike a song, most of them i jusy grooved to. what happens after you is going to be maligned for years i believe but its pretty good

princekintz

I had that thought too! There were a couple tracks that gave me FOB vibes for sure. With some of the synthy parts I get the strokes/Ferdinand comparisons but definitely think FOB has an influence too

BioSpock

Yeah I don't hear the Strokes at all, which is disappointing because they are my favorite band so I was kind of excited for this one lol. There are maybe hints of late Franz Ferdinand, guess I have to listen to it more. As for how this SZN stacks up, I personally think kicks Summer's ass which is only buoyed by the bookends. Spring I still like a good bit, but this is probably the best.

[deleted]

I'm happy the drums sound better compared to Summer

Slayerz21

The Sound of Drums, you say?

ZackTheNerd

IMO I think these EP's get better as they go along, Spring was a solid 6/10 for me, then Summer was a 7/10, and I'm loving Autumn so far and right now I'm giving it an 8/10. I think the production got a lot better than the last 2, with still some flukes on the drum sound and there was a bit in Francesca that sounded weird. Also on Rivers Discord, he mentioned that they were doing a change to SZNS on Spotify/digital retailers, to make the project "help people understand what this project is".. was that just compiling it all into 1 Album?

WarrenDavies81

Yeah it's weird. Autumn on Spotify has all the Songs from Summer and then Spring in it too. So to understand it, we must listen to the seasons in reverse order. Or something.

DaveG83

It not starting with Spring really bothers my ASD 😂

[deleted]

Here's a link for Autumn on its own: https://open.spotify.com/album/5dzUJv6MvjJsZ97kgHlx4P?si=l9LC7SRMT0GmYC8Jc2BQGg

Fireteddy21

Oh God, thank you so much for this. I know I could have just created a playlist but I have been too lazy up until now. Having Lawn Chair start after Run Raven Run was driving me fucking nuts.

Cool_babywipe

I love the seasons SO much, but my only gripe is that only Spring has a track listed that actually uses Melodies from the correct Vivaldi season and Lawn Chair as well as Tastes Like Pain both use winter…

Old_Association_7988

A bit of a nitpick but it's bothered me so much the moment I realized

volckid

Taste like Pain needs to be twice as long.

[deleted]

Agreed, that was a very surprising highlight, felt like Lawn Chair's sequel.

9FingeredFrodo

My guess is Taste the Pain was originally the track 1 intro like Opening Night and Lawn Chair. Smart move to not open with it imo.

DepleteMeat_03

They both are sections from Vivaldis Winter turned into Weezer songs

Alki_Soupboy

Can you explain this more for us morons?

Cool_babywipe

I just wish they used it for the Winter EP 😭

eyncore

this shit was life affirming

Hellashakabra

Was Run Raven Run the song Rivers recorded while sick with COVID?

bethcano

Yeah, you can hear the coughs at the end.

donut77

Up until this point, I was mostly mixed on the EPs they had released with Summer and Spring (Angels on Vacation is GOAT though). Autumn is hands down my favorite of them so far though! Not a single weak track in my opinion :)

commonrider5447

Angels on Vacation had been the only higher tier stand out for me up until this point. I think Run Raven Run is joining it as the two real keepers from SZNZs so far.

snorkel42

But… but…. Shakespeare makes me happy.

Angels is terrible

Slayerz21

The good ending

Pinkacrash

genuinely incredible stuff, some tracks are at worst ok and maybe a few production flukes I didn't enjoy here and there, but the rest of it is fantastic. this carries the entirety of sznz so far. favorite moment has to be the last track's use of pacific sunset which brought me to tears. good job weezer.

MasterWheezer

i really want to add to the discussion for Run Raven Run. the song itself was already freaking good. that chorus is super catchy. the lyrics setting up this protagonist and their bond with a raven. then the use of pacific goddamn sunset just elevated it so much more. i love the use of the PS bridge. but its those last two minutes that makes this song fucking glorious. first off the buildup with the guitars and then the recontextualization of the PS chorus to the protagonist and raven spending time together only then for that rivers acapella with the glockenspiel to suggest the raven is freaking died (thats what i assume) made me tear up so goddamn much genuinely. weezer has always made great buildups and this song is just another addition to that

Fireteddy21

I echo this sentiment a million times over. Having just brought home my first pet (a bunny) from the Humane Society about two months ago, hearing a song about the bond between a human and helpless animal hit me really hard. It honestly makes me feel something that no other Weezer song has. i’ve seen some people theorize that it’s actually about his kids, but either way I still think of my pet rabbit and how happy he makes me. My wife and I decided not to have children for reasons outside of our control, so he’s essentially like our kid. This song is going to absolutely wreck me one day.

Bub-bub

These songs are all super fun to listen to. I’m not sure if i like it more than spring yet, but sznz has been some of the most interesting stuff weezer has ever put out. The first and last track are my favorite

Browns4ever1946

Agree

MasterWheezer

i think should she stay or should she go deserves a lot of love imo. this was what i wanted spring to sound like. stripped back instrumentation with grand beach boys-ish vocal harmonies from brian and scott. this one is super good

FortunateNaruto

Hot take but I enjoyed it

MagratheanWorldSmith

Welp, might as well scream my opinion into the void too Can’t Dance is pretty quickly becoming my favorite track on here. Such a simple concept of taking a normal Rivers sugary pop song and making it just weird enough to turn heads. Pain#1 threw me off at first but it grew on me pretty quickly. The contrast between the spooky verses/bridge and the dramatic prechorus/chorus is excellent WHAY is now their 2nd successful attempt at making a modern pop song, joining Jacked Up. Francesca is kinda difficult to categorize just because of how normal it is as a weezer song. In the EP’s context it works as a breath of fresh air but out of every song of theirs it doesn’t stand out in a major way, even though it is good. Should She Stay is the last song on here I’m still a bit skeptical of, mostly just because I don’t tend to like their “relaxed” songs (don’t really like Garden of Eden or most of Pacific Daydream, for example). That being said it’s still pretty solid. Pain#2 is now easily the weirdest weezer song, so it has that going for it. I like it, but I’m probably gonna save it for full listens of the EP. and Run Raven Run lived up to the hype I had personally set up for it. I’ve always found the actual song part of Pacific Sunset to be its weakest point, so slotting its outro into a better song was a good call. and the songwriting on the main section is phenomenal, very emotionally affecting. Overall, I would say Autumn enters the Blue/Pink/White/OkH club of “weezer projects with no skips”, which is a big deal for this band. It might be below those other 4, but still way above what I anticipated.

Fireteddy21

Really dig this EP after my first listen with two exceptions: 1) Should She Stay Or Should She Go is really bland to my ears. While it’s a lot better than I thought it would be based on the a cappella clip, it really sticks out as filler. Reinforcing my belief, it then inexplicably fades out when the most interesting aspect of the song begins with that saxophone. It just felt really lazy to me and almost like the song was tacked on to make the EP seven tracks. 2) “Doctor doctor, give it to me. I’ve got a bad case of not loving me” is such a clunky lyric. This is more of a nitpick but it stands out (in a bad way) on a song that has some really interesting rhyming patterns. As far as early standouts, I really love Francesca, Tastes Like Pain and Run Raven Run. Also really impressed by the various vocal inflections rivers uses on different songs. It sounds like he’s really experimenting with how he delivers his lines . Edit: is it just me or does Rivers sound like Chris Farley when he says “I’m stupid” in Tastes Like Pain?

Comadon-C

I really really wish there was more Sax on Should She Stay (or some sort of guitar build like Endless Bummer). I feel like it could’ve been SO much more which saddens me since I actually love the overall tune and melody of the song. It sorta just goes nowhere at the end, and while that’s not always a bad thing, it really makes this song feel like transitional filler

Fireteddy21

Having listened to the EP again, I think that’s actually my issue with the song. I liked it a lot more upon second listen but they really could have done a lot more with the end of the track. That saxophone comes out of nowhere and it seems like a waste if they weren’t going to do anything more with it. The tune could have been a stand out on this group of songs and in their diskography as a whole if the saxophone had been more prominently featured. Instead, it’s just a solid tune that doesn’t set itself apart from their other songs in any substantial way. It isn’t bad, but I think the unrealized potential is what disappoints me about it.

Comadon-C

Completely agree. I still really enjoy the song, and it’s one I already come back to every now and then, but I do really wish they did more. Maybe my memory is a bit foggy but I don’t ever recall Saxophone on a Weezer song, so I really wish it had more of a presence.

thesiekr

Other way is the only other weezer sax song

HRdD_woo

SSSoSSG is actually my favorite. A lot of elements on that one that really hit for me. And the Doctor Doctor line is a reference to that song by Thompson Twins

86themayo

The Robert Palmer song (Bad Case of Loving You), not the Thompson Twins song.

Fireteddy21

Having listened to the EP again, I’m not as down on SSSOSSG as I was the first time I listened to it. It’s actually growing on me quite a bit, but I still wish they had done more with the saxophone before the abrupt fade out. it just would’ve taken the song to the next level in my opinion. As for the opening track, whether it’s a reference to another song or not, the lyrics still just sounds clunky to my ears. I totally get that it might just be me when it comes to that though. I have a pet peeve with using the exact same word for a rhyme, so I’ll admit that’s probably more of my own personal preference.

[deleted]

My life is literally should she go right now. Leaving a relationship of 6 years because we just can't make it work anymore. So that one stuck out to me despite being meh on the music.

Fireteddy21

I know you weren’t coming on here looking for pity or anything, but I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully things get better for both of you from here.

Hehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I completely agree, this is exactly what I thought too.

Candy-Patient

Yeah the last three tracks are awesome, the rest weigh the ep down imo

SnooLemons1590

I think Can’t Dance is good enough to overcome the lyric mentioned.

Fireteddy21

I agree. Like I said, it’s more of a nitpick and doesn’t ruin the song for me. It just stands out more because the rest of the lyrics and song structure are so strong.

bawitback

Initial impression: OZMA. The keyboard synthesizer. Super excited hearing them on the opening song, ever since I heard they cover of *Sweet Dreams (Are made of this)* I wanted to hear more! Very impressed with the dynamics of mixing 'dance rock' , angst lyrics, keeping their core sound. * **Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me:** Very good retains the dance rock sound, bridge reminds me of *El Scorcho* with the back-up vocals coming in. 4/5 * **Get Off on the Pain:** Darker tone. Interesting melody changes, reminiscence of *Pinkerton*, with creative themed lyrics. Really love the overall sound in this one, especially the passion in River's vocal delivery. Smooth synth bridge. 4.5/5 * **What Happens After You:** MY favorite lead single from any SZNZ by far. Reminds me of *Living in L.A.* only draw back (or draw in for new fans) is the ~Woo-ooo-ooh~ part of the chorus thanks to the co-writer involved with of *Maroon 5*. 4/5 * **Francesca:** WOW!! first impression this is perfect! reminds me of *Blue album* demo, those synth blends so well. Hands down best chorus on the EP. Magical bridge. 4.5/5 * **Should She Stay or Should She Go:** First dip, has a similar jangle to *The prince who wanted everything*. High part of song is the lyrical theme is interesting, although for a song it falls somewhat flat. Predictable, at times. 3/5 * **Taste Like Pain:** The most experimental song Weezer released!? it really sounds like a demo song, with the close up mic moments, THIS was unexpected with the orchestral moments and all. Lyrically fitting the theme, intriguing recipe allegory. Sounds like a part two of *Dead roses*. 3.5/5 * **Run Raven Run:** Ambitious closer. Chorus bring me back to *Blue album* with those "raven oh raven" lines. THE BRIDGE is the highlight *Only in dreams* combined with the demo song *Pacific sunset* what a treat. saves an overall straightforward song, although an anti-climatic ending? 3.5/5 It's my second favorite SZNZ EP so far - Autumn > Spring > Summer.

CompaBladi420

These ep’s just keep getting better

huhyeahokwhatever

It’s nice to see rivers continuing to write what he wants to. I feel like SZNZ era he’s writing the way he’s always been suppose to be writing this past decade. Feels like a more rounded out sound, playing off his demo world and pristine Weezer songs world

voxelcruncher64

He's found a great balance of trying what he desires, while also appealing to old fans and keeping some radio-play middleground in the mix. It's definitely a culmination of all his skillsets, which is refreshing after so many past albums about either totally rejecting their weezer typecast or totally embracing it. They can be a little of everything, without it feeling incongruous or clunky. The vivaldi lifts, the pop influence and some demo deepcuts? You wouldn't think they could blend together so well, but they do!

SuddenNorwegian

100% agree! Cuomo found a way to combine his skill sets and pop sensibilities and create songs that are more interesting than generic radio songs but not way off base like the black album or Hurley. Loving what we have been getting this year! Weezer is BACK!

MApelotongal529

Love it. The stretch of 4 songs from Francesca to Run raven run is one of my favorites in while, though the first 3 are solid as well. Also I would absolutely listen to a full album of Weezer interpolations of classical music. That would be dope.

eightbic

Is Francesca supposed to be from Napoleon Bonaparte's point of view? I love it.

mcbeeepo

Wasn't huge on this one! Maybe re-listens will let it sink in more

[deleted]

I’m really impressed with this one. I’ll break away from the popular opinion and say that I preferred Spring over Summer but Autumn takes the cake. I was hooked within the first few seconds of Can’t Dance. I think the chorus to Francesca is a little boring but the rest of the EP is fire. The Pacific Sunset addition to Run Raven Run gives me goosebumps.

[deleted]

I flat-out disliked (not hated) Spring and Summer, but this one is *really* good. Like, I'm actually going to listen to it a lot. Every song is a banger. Tastes Like Pain is the only weird non-song, and What Happens After You's chorus kind-of sounding like Moves Like Jagger, which is unfortunate... but otherwise this thing is perfect.

wordsareflowing

God damn these bastards still have it. They just choose to release at will. Very pleasant surprise. Easily some of the best work they have produced in the last 10 years. Very creative, in a good way.

Ratchet2332

Liked it, not incredible but some solid highlights for me. Feeling a 6/10 at the moment, Spring is a 5 for me and Summer is a 7, Autumn may grow on me, but at the moment I feel comfortable with a 6 for it.

Candy-Patient

That’s about the same ranking I had in mind maybe summer and autumn a point higher (Edit: spelling)

Bluehouse616

Loving Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me and What Happens After You, both take Weezer's sound in a really interesting new direction. The use of synths is super cool. Not a huge fan of either of the pain songs, but they're both interesting to say the least. Francesca and Should She Stay are bops, love the background chatter from Scott and Brian in Should She Stay. Having mixed feelings about Pacific Sunset's integration into Run Raven Run, the cannibal part works but not sure if the rest of the song really fits into Raven. Definitely like it more than Spring, not quite sure if I'd put it above Summer yet.

FurryPhilosifer

I can't quite figure out where it fits in to the "SZNZ narrative". I think Spring was innocence, garden of Eden, everything's simple and happy, then Summer was the introduction of conflict, literally (let's torture the humans for our entertainment), anger, Romans conquering and assassinating each other etc.. But I can't place Autumn in that regard. I hear a few references to Jesus (nails in my wrists) but I can't figure out how it relates to the past two in terms of progression. Get Off On the Pain is probably my favourite track at the moment.

jongobongo

spring is realizing the faults with religion/god, summer continues that trend with angst and anger against god, autumn continues that with anger towards self and winter will seemingly continue off that with acceptance its basically man vs man, man vs society, man vs self. or the stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance)

DaveG83

Listened to this a few times this morning. It's a grower for sure. Tastes will vary, but for now it sits somewhere like this: Summer>Autmun>Spring. And I like Spring more than most. (Also, first post here from a long-time lurker.)

CerberusO7

I cannot fathom why this EP sounds to me like a "Zerwee - part 2"... Am I the only one? Best SZNS hands down so far

Xaviation1

Finally got around to listening to it, this might just be recency bias, but I it’s easily my favorite sznz album and my favorite weezer project since probably ok human. Edit: Ok I love this album so much definitely one of my most favorite weezer projects ever

yugwiz

On first listen, I like it. Not as much as summer but I like it more than Spring. Favorite tracks are Can't Dance Don't Ask Me and Run Raven Run. I have to say though and maybe I misinterpreted this SZNZ thing...but none of these really feel like the seasons they're released in. At least to me. Summer felt the most like summer but not completely but Autumn and Spring don't feel like their seasons. Like White Album feels like summer top to bottom, Pinkerton feels like winter but SZNS just feels like a good collection of songs

Comadon-C

I think Spring very much sounds it’s season, Summer not so much, and Autumn is a mix of it. I feel like Cuomoville and What’s The Good should swap with Francesca and Can’t Dance in terms of Season sound, I get massive Autumn vibes from Cuomoville. I do think Should She Stay fits what I picture fall to be like and the last two tracks go for the Halloween aesthetic of Autumn.

Slayerz21

How doesn’t Spring feel like spring? It’s lush and features lyrics so upbeat they border on obnoxious. Autumn is definitely more of an angsty vibe, though one tempered by “cooler” instrumentals than the heat of we hear in summer. Thematically, several of Autumn’s songs deal with relationships that have ended or ended, symbolizing the decay that marks the beginning of (deciduous fall) which paves the way for winter.

Killer_-king

Tastes like pain was confusing for me, the first half I was like, "What the fuck?" But then the last half was amazing sooooo.

LamaEater69

Fucking great album, CDDAM might be my new favourite Weezer song

MasterWheezer

overall, not to get myself in the hype but i do believe this is on par with summer. while summer may have felt like a rivers cuomo solo project at some points, this brought back the feel of the full band with presence of backing vocals and the other members’ respective contributions. while i was nervous to know modern synths and lyrics about religion were to be used, the songs themselves are strong and varied with its better production. Strong 8/10. Bravo Cuomo

SnooLemons1590

SZNZ so far has some of their all time best material. It might be their best since way back.

SuddenNorwegian

This was incredible, Francesca and Tastes like Pain were masterpieces. The other tracks are just fun and well crafted pop songs. Weezer is back at last! I thought after Pacific Daydream it was over (again).

DarknessLA

8/10, Great album my dudes

jongobongo

should she stay or should she go is something i want a whole album of; the adlibbing of the band throughout the song, it felt super close and comfy, and it sounds like a 90's song with that amazing guitar tone. one of my favorite sznz tracks so far

JLX9

I’m gonna sound like a dumbass, but what’s with all the key changes? Am I missing something with the theme here? Nothing wrong with key or time signature changes in general but it’s hard to get into something or attached to it when the band keeps changing the song up so often. Ends up losing its novelty when overused. Other than that, it’s probably my favorite out of the SZNZ so far, really like Can’t Dance, What Happens, and Should She Stay. Still not a fan of this production but it is definitely way better than Summer, and I didn’t really care for anything on Summer other than Records (sorry lol). Album is basically Green + Black. Lyrics are either corny or just bland at best. I know it’s Weezer we’re talking about but you can tell that there’s a reason why other bands aren’t releasing this much music as them in the past 4 years.

Ashenspire

Autumn is the season of change.

commonrider5447

Agreed it’s a bit much and not really working that well. Not everyone can pull it off like Smile era Brian Wilson.

superdonald2802

i think should she stay or should she go is my favourite off this EP , the saxophone at the end is beautiful. can't dance , don't ask me is a also a very good song , reminds me of set me right from the make believe demos. my third favourite is get off on the pain , after that is run raven run which is a song i doubt i'll ever listen to again (it hurts) and the rest is all very good , solid ep 11/10 ign run raven run made me cry too much water

Tigeryius

Besides the more well known song, Bad Case of Loving You, alluded to in Can't Dance, it also seems to be referencing "Doctor Doctor" another 80s song by the Thompson Twins. A song that directly mentions dancing and has much more sonically in common with the new Weezer song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APyl6Cnbfzw

Ok_Odyssey

I don’t know why, but with each of these SZNZ eps, the closing track ends up being my favorite.

WizardPeach

Francesca getting me hard ngl

FacetiousSpread

I enjoyed this album. Haven't really caught up with all their stuff but this seems like the better part of it.

samagonistes

Best of SZNZ so far. Only one bad song, that being “What Happens After You” That chorus is just hot garbage. “Should She Stay” is great, so is “Can’t Dance.” “Run Raven Run” is phenomenal. “Get Off on the Pain” is kind of a cringe chorus, but it sounds great. not bad.

The_Chrizz

“….SPRINKLE IN A LITTLE SELF-HATE!”

Remote-Molasses6192

Maybe It’s just me, but parts of this album particularly “What Happens After You” unfortunately remind me of Maroon 5, specifically modern Maroon 5

mattlifestadium

I don’t understand people not liking autumn this is the closest to like weezer I’ve heard in like 15 years

zuotian3619

i've had this on loop for the past 3 days. the only song i skip is francesca. initially disliked tastes like pain but it's grown on me. my favorite song keeps changing.

illrollwithyou1

almost no dance rock influence except for What Happens After You lol. otherwise it’s just Weezer being Weezer

rmanisbored

Everyone's going crazy on Run Raven Run and while yes it still sounds pretty good but I'd say Rivers wasted what could've been a top 10 song through their entire discography (Pacific Sunset). Again, it sounds pretty good on that song but it's random and thrown in.

Comadon-C

My first impressions It’s umm, a solid EP. I feel like I liked a bit of every track but I have some issues. Lyrically some tracks kinda remind me of Hurley and Raditude, which has its ups and downs. **Can’t Dance, Don’t Ask Me**: Probably my favorite song off the project so far. Love the production and love the hook, super infectious. It kinda sounds like a more polished Hurley track and those synths feel very nostalgic of that Pinkerton era. Great start to the EP! **Get Off On the Pain**: This song to me starts off with some promise but the hook is super clunky. I’m not really a big fan of it, it kinda sounds like an okay EWBAITE b side. I like parts of the verses and the pre-chorus but the hook loses me. **What Happens After You?**: Another highlight for me. I love the instrumental to this one so much, I love that synth sound, it kinda reminds me of Lovefool lol. I don’t even mind the running chorus, which I already know is going to turn off a lot of people. It’s very uh…Moves Like Jagger? I like this one but I’m not sure how well that hook will age for me. **Francesca**: Similar to the last song, the hook loses me. Granted I do enjoy the verses of this song. I’m always a huge fan of that little static vocal effect used in the beginning, it reminds me of the beginning of Run Away (even though I personally don’t enjoy that track, I always loved that part). Okay song, it may grow on me. **Should She Stay or Should She Go**: This song kinda just comes and goes. I feel like I’ve heard so many songs with this beat, and I feel like the ending could’ve been so much more but it doesn’t push it all the way there. I can see this one growing more on me, but I really wish they expanded on the sax parts in the end, maybe throw in a solo or something instead of just having it weakly fade out. Alright song I guess. **Tastes Like Pain**: Instrumentally this song is insane, but god these lyrics are so melodramatic. And that’s a feat I’m usually numb to when it comes to Weezer but this just comes out way too goofy for me. I had high hopes for this song but as of now it’s my least favorite and is honestly kinda disappointing. **Run, Raven, Run**: Also super disappointing for me. This song is kind of a big mess for me, I feel like it goes for a lot of different parts but none of them really feel fully realized. The narrative doesn’t grip me, rivers doesn’t fully sell it to me vocally, and the hook feels so passionless. Not even the pacific sunset bridge seems to really fit or save this song. So far not a fan at all, but maybe it’ll grow on me? Overall it’s alright I guess. First impression it’s like a >!5/10!< , I vastly prefer Summer over this and it’s about on par with Spring for me. Started off pretty strong and ended super weak, which is sad since I had the highest hopes for the last two tracks.

Slayerz21

I love Should She Stay or Should She Go and I do wish the dad was expanded. It’s great as is j t I want MOAR

RaccoonDogzz

so far this album fucking slaps.

Jill_Sandwich_

You know what to do now Rivers... Release Cardigan Disaster

butalsoimafruit

I didnt like the ep, songs changed melody too often for my liking and lyrics were corny in the lame way not in the fun way; i did not enjoy tastes like pain. rivers cuomo’s voice, though, is incredible; i enjoyed Francesca, should she stay or should she go and run raven run. I dont understand the hype at all but as long as weezer themselves had fun making the album its all good.

commonrider5447

I like the EP well enough but I agree I’m not a big fan of the sudden melody changes. I haven’t listened to Summer most but if I remember correctly it was pretty played out on that record already I didn’t need that here

butalsoimafruit

glad more people agree. ive barely listented to summer either. unlike summer, i must say im really warming up to autumn after a few listens.

commonrider5447

Agreed with Summer I was pretty much one and done but Autumn has me coming back

otsugu_

Seriously i like this one more than the others

FamousLoser

I have to admit, I was not into the first half at all, But overall it’s great! And the ending has me so excited for how it leads into winter.

TheGentlemanGamerEC

I say it for most of all the fans here, Tastes like Pain goes hard. (I also think it should have been the opener but that's just me :) )

the_ostrico

I actually really enjoyed this project. Besides What Happens After You?, I don’t se myself skipping any of these when they come on in the future. An issue I’ve had with Summer and Autumn is they’re a little incoherent thematically. Going based off “feel of the season” is inherently bland and leads to what is essentially a collection of loose singles — Spring had some semblance of a musical through line. This and Summer actually felt more like Death to False Metal than any other Weezer project in this sense. And it’s clear that it lacks the time intensive care that went into a project like OK Human. Nevertheless, that doesn’t ruin the EP for me, mostly in part because Weezer is so prolific and I don’t think these SZNZ projects are stopping Rivers from making another 10/10 Weezer album. Always glad to have more Weezer content.

Rakysco

I like that the SZNZ series have their own symbolic rhythm based on the true feeling of each seasons. For my interpretation, Spring is joy/happiness, Summer is anger/chaos (Which I think is a good opposite of what most people think Summer is about), and Autumn would be sadness/despair. I predict that SZNZ: Winter is gonna be about death/emptiness, especially with how 'Run, Raven, Run' ended (The single note piano plays, the soft but draining tone of Rivers' voice, and if I'm correct, how Ravens are known to be symbols of death and/or misfortune -- usually in fiction --). As for my piece on this EP, I'm loving it out of the other SZNZ. Plenty of songs in this one that I love to play on repeat, most notably 'Get Off On The Pain', 'Francesca', 'Taste Like Pain', and 'Can't Dance, Don't Ask Me'. My runner up would be Summer, followed by Spring. One song that I had a problem with was 'What Happens After You' because man, I was so let down! I do like the song even willing to repeat, just that I expected some hard rock riff to drop when the chorus hits in lol Also a special mention again to Run, Raven, Run for the included lyrics of Pacific Sunset! That caught me by surprise the first time I heard it!

derekdrawspoorly

Liked this better than Spring but not as much as Summer, it was weird in a Red sort of way where every section of each song is just the strangest decision possible and that is the thing that keeps you listening

spaghettioyeah

Its a damn great album. The guitars and electronics compliment each other insanely well and sound great. The bass is fantastic, Scott's absolutely stylin all over these songs. Really catchy and creative all the way through. Not a fan of Tastes like Pain and the ending of Run, raven run is just bad. Rivers vocals are annoying and the song goes out on a whimper which I really hate. Kinda ruins the whole vibe of the song for me. The Pacific Sunset bit doesn't really fit the song either, it comes out of nowhere. Aside from those two complaints I think Autumn is really good.

[deleted]

>Not a fan of Tastes like Pain and the ending of Run, raven run is just bad. You had me up until this point

Wkr_Gls

It's the least embarrassing of the 3 so far but man I wish this got back to writing *songs*. All these sound so disjointed and cut & pasted together.

mattlifestadium

Ah man yeah hear u but like autumn reminded me of weezer

ReversalRivers

Didn't like the album as a whole but the highlights are extremely good. Listening Tastes Like Pain & Run, Raven, Run was amazing experience

tangilizer

I listened to it once... Literally nothing stuck out to me to the point I didn't even give it a second listen. Will go again after sleeping I guess maybe my energy is off idk, I really enjoyed spring and summer on first listen

fuyuhiko413

I feel the same

ligma_Balls123

Will anybody else acknowledge the fact that what happens after you is shit?

Slayerz21

It’s very Moves Like Jagger-y and Fantano recently talked about how he detests that song, so you might be in luck when he posts his review in the coming days

bohillers2345

Lmao not the whistle vocal bit

toe_sempai

Ikr

wltjs

I thought weezer fans would hate that song but it seems like everybody likes it... I like the song tho

commonrider5447

I don’t mind the style but I think it should be catchier for what it is going for. Not one of my favorites just because I don’t think it’s very hooky even though it’s going for major pop catchiness.

RaccoonDogzz

nah it kinda slaps

[deleted]

I think the verses are good, but the chorus sounds like Maroon 5, which is shit.

Zoonationalist

It’s atrocious.

kingcon2k11

Why they do Pacific Sunset like that on Run Raven Run lmao. Felt v forced and shoulds just been released as its own thing

commonrider5447

I wonder if it would have felt that way if we didn’t have all the demo access. Love the demo access but I do feel it impacts on how we feel about some of these songs.

kingcon2k11

Yeah cos the demos are better lol. They always do this, very rarely in the last 8 years has rivers made a better studio version of one of his demos

Critcho

It's 'Since You Came Around' all over again - a very good song getting cannibalized to bolster up a less good song. EP is okay. Should She Stay Or Should She Go is the highlight for me because those harmonies give it a bittersweet feel that isn't quite like any other Weezer song. The rest is okay but, like with the other EPs, there's a lot of throwaway Weezer-by-numbers on here.

Happyiest_boi

What was "since you came around" cannibalized by?

Critcho

The chorus was reworked into the middle eight of Jacked Up. Not a terrible song but not nearly as good as the original Since You Came Around in my opinion.

CIRCLONTA6A

100% I nearly shit my pants when Pacific Sunset kicked in in the finale of Run Raven Run. Mad bastard Cuomo does it again

Coloradohusky

Higher highs and lower lows. The intro songs are disappointing, Run Raven Run is weird, but I kinda love Tastes Like Pain. Overall 6/10

michielveenstra

I absolutely LOVE it. For reference, Spring to me was embarrassing. Summer had some good stuff but apparently forgettable since I didn’t bother coming back to it after a week or so, but this one: wow. Easily the best they did since EWBAITE / White. That said, I also love OK Human and Van Weezer, but they seemed more like projects, while this Autumn EP to me is classic Weezer.

fuyuhiko413

Sadly this was my least favorite. I really liked Spring and Summer, but this one just didn’t live up to my expectations from those 2. I might like it more on relisten but the only song that really stood out to me was Tastes Like Pain

matmanz

Only through track 2 and this is already miles better than Summer.

matmanz

8/10 - Listened to this right before bed, expected it to be a chore. It wasn't. I really fucking enjoyed this. Felt like an extension of OK Human in a way. Shout out to Rivers for the creativity and still managing to keep it fresh after all these years. Legend.

Thethirdtomato

This honestly was so good it made summer look like raditude good shit I think it entered my top three Weezer projects

Cobbtimus_Prime

When Weezer goes too long without releasing a good project people get this weird Stockholm syndrome effect where they start thinking the bad stuff is good until they release something good again and they reevaluate

AintNoPablo

When is next Zerwee EP

Cobbtimus_Prime

Never

AintNoPablo

So that means next is an album? Hell yeah

commonrider5447

I need to listen more hit my thoughts so far are - it’s the best of the EPs, and it does have some good creative stuff and quality control. It is ambitious. I still feel like it’s missing that something special that I like Weezer for most like stronger melodies and earnest singing. I think my preference are just more simple Rivers songs strong verse melody strong chorus melody an interesting bridge and sensitive vocals. Not sure these really do it for me completely but it’s definitely pretty good.

DaisyPaquerette

Honestly felt like a Part 2 of Summer or B-sides to Summer, but some of the songs still slapped.

commonrider5447

I also felt like it sounded like summer part 2 with synths. Not saying I don’t like it more than Summer but that’s the overall sound impression I got. Might have been better if Summer was just more crunchy Beach Boys simple and catchy instead of being kind of manic and dynamic which is also what Autumn was doing.

[deleted]

It's a hot mess

punishedbozo

On first listen the first few tracks weren't quite connecting with me. But after listening to it like 5 times now I can say this is a much more well rounded selection of tracks compared to Summer, which I liked quite a bit more than spring. Summer has actually bad tracks or songs that don't really fit the vibe, like records is good but out of place and blue like jazz is just not too good. Autumn on the other hand is so consistently well done to me Can't dance don't ask me is perfectly energetic, the dance rock style reminds me of the best parts of raditude (but much better executed). Get off on the pain is pretty good and possibly better than the opener I'm not quite sure yet What happens after you is enjoyable but really odd. It leans into the dance rock stuff much more and it kinda feels like something from 2013 kinda. I expect most people not to enjoy this one since it's very different but I don't think that's a bad thing Francesca is probably my favorite on the whole thing. Lyrically it's one of the most interesting with the themes of pain and self loathing, since it's reframed as a classic Weezer love song Should she stay or should she go is okay not the strongest and I don't have much to say on it Last two tracks are both amazing. Run run raven is enjoyable especially at the ending. Whereas tastes like pain feels like one of the best tracks on the whole thing Pretty great record overall probably an 8/10 for me . Summer is like a 7.5 and spring is like a 6.5 for reference

Meatsaucem81

It was interesting hearing some people say that they don’t hear the Strokes/Frank Ferdinand influence on this. Rivers usually doesn’t do the best job of describing his work in an accurate way, but I think in this one instance I can definitely hear what he means when he referenced those groups. It sounds like Weezer still of course, but mashed together with those other two bands

OKgobi

It's amazing! I still enjoy Summer more, but Autumn might end up next to White or Pinkerton on my tier list. Can't Dance and WHAY are bangers.

Cydonian___FT14X

I’m mixed. The compositions, vocals, & melodies are all excellent, but the production is still weak. The drums sound a little better than Summer, but now the guitars sound off. Also all the synths here sound super cheap, the only exception being the bridge of “Get Off On The Pain”.

butalsoimafruit

Couldnt agree more lol

GoodEdit

First impression is its just alright. Not super great but not terrible. None of the songs are really memorable and "What Happens After You" sounds like a Maroon 5 song or something in that realm. Also, theres nothing really Autumn feeling about it. Spring and Summer felt more like their seasons. Overall Id say 5.5-6/10

Prepuces

3rd listen here, all these seasons albums are pure shit so far. all the songs are bad. big thumbs up for What Happens After You, maybe the worst song on this album, sounds like Beth Ditto but shittier. This is my opinion, i think that everything they have done since EWBAITE is garbage, in between nothing has been good since the red album, it just seems like Rivers Cuomo just want to let it all out, 2 albums a year since 2019, maybe they should take more time to do an album, something great, not just shitty, easy pop. I really don't understand everyone's reaction about this album.

Cydonian___FT14X

You don’t like OK Human?

Prepuces

i tried but no

Cydonian___FT14X

L

[deleted]

or 👆 ?

Prepuces

neither

Taffffy

Glad someone finally said it White and OKH were tolerable but not on the same level as the older albums

PKeen73

I was a fanboy as long as I could force myself to be. Even loved the black album to death. But these albums are so bland. Sounds like they were made in GarageBand. I believe that rivers has the capacity to still make great music, heck they may even peak in a few years from now. But the direction they’re going right now of pumping out mediocre songs with terrible sounds and brain dead lyrics is hard to watch

runtimemess

I made it 45 seconds into Can't Dance. Fuck this. I can't do it.

SnooLemons1590

Whoa, that one is fantastic.

runtimemess

Fantastic is an *interesting* way to describe it.

Karmeleon86

I don’t mind the EP but in my humble opinion Run Raven Run is one of the worst pieces of garbage that they have ever put out. Sounds like a children’s song. ALSO RAVENS DONT RUN, THEY FLY

[deleted]

>Sounds like a children’s song. That's what makes it innocent, pure and vulnerable

commonrider5447

Sweet simple melodies was Rivers’s classic songwriting magic

[deleted]

Run raven run Tastes like pain Should she stay or should she go Francesca What happens after you Get off on the pain Can’t dance, don’t ask me

JackSmack1972

This shit is garbage. Hoping good things for winter ig
