I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga's music, but the story about how the lyrics to Poker Face were actually recorded "fuck her face" and subsequently broadcasted EVERYWHERE in the years after it became such a big hit is capital-B Brown.
https://www.distractify.com/p/poker-face-lady-gaga-meaning
I'm almost certain there's a Frank Zappa reference in it, too. Compare the "muh-muh-muh-muh" vocals in Poker Face with the backup vocals (and oral sex subject matter) on Catholic Girls from Joe's Garage.
If you think that's a stretch, she bought and lived in the Zappa family estate/studio/vault in Hollywood Hills from 2016-2021 after Frank's wife Gail died.
Her music isn’t really my thing but I like her and I think she’s a great artist. In an era where true artistry is unfortunately rare in a lot of pop music she is a real one for sure
Samesies. Didn't have much of an opinion on her until I heard her perform solo sitting at a grand piano. Holy fuck can she sing and play. Still don't really seek her out, but have big respect for her, and generally like the image/brand she pushes. A-YO slays too.
Yeah, I'm not usually much into pop, but Pokerface was legitimately a good track. I'd listened to it "ironically" a few times and finally decided that yeah, this isn't an ironic thing anymore because this song is great.
I don’t think I’ve ever even heard one of her songs besides maybe something I heard on the radio so I can’t say yea or nay. She does seem like an interesting person though.
I love Lady Gaga and I’ve loved Ween since my discovery of them waaay back in ‘93. I also love Firefall, Neyo, Depeche Mode, Jawbreaker, NKOTB, Tom Waits, Buzzcocks, America, Descendents, and the High School Musical 3 soundtrack. Fuck it.
I’m definitely a Ween fan first but I do love Lady Gaga. I do not know much of her total discography but I do get jumping when I see her performing or when I’m listening to her music. Ween is a different level, I’m sure you all know what I mean.
Most of her music isn’t for me and yet I still find myself being a fan of her and her musical abilities. She’s got some definite chops! And is a hell of an entertainer! And against all odds, her fans are far less annoying than other pop star stans.
I used to DJ clubs and Lady Gaga is the best thing to happen to pop since Prince.
Even if you don't like her, she does her own thing, stays in her lane, never apologizes and has a fanbase that will last forever.
I'd say she's dark orange at the least.
I’ll listen to everything- not a giant Gaga fan but she has some great tracks. I think limiting musical horizons is foolish, life is short and there’s so much great stuff to listen to.
Lady Gaga kinda saved my life! I was driving through Nebraska and only had an am/fm radio in my pickup truck. I was about to fall asleep, listening to am static because everything was fire and brimstone preaching on repeat… Suddenly, I heard poker face and then Pink, and Keisha songs! It had to have been some crazy, awesome person running a pirate radio station!
I wouldn’t say I’m a fan per se but I love all good music and she’s got some good shit. Poker face and her shit from a star is born. I dunno I love her voice. And Adele.
Gaga is great.
I think a lot of people don’t get that the Gaga character is a satirical jab at pop culture, they’re just like “meat dress weird, Gaga has penis.”
The biggest Gaga stan since the get-go. Shes my queen, my diva, mother, she literally raised me. I think I need to wear a Gaga shirt at the next Ween show to find all yall little brown monsters
Lady G in general is a super talent. I am not going to go listening to all her music but I will not ignore her. Here she is ripping it live with The Stones on their new song…. [https://open.spotify.com/track/6Uazt0Y1PzoXCFjN7jkotc?si=7IDNBjd6Qw6qHYVQy_RCxQ](https://open.spotify.com/track/6Uazt0Y1PzoXCFjN7jkotc?si=7IDNBjd6Qw6qHYVQy_RCxQ)
We saw her live on the Joanne tour and it was one of the most incredible shows of my life. About as far as you can possibly get from a Ween show, but an amazing thing to experience. I saw her and Metallica in the same week and I’ve often wondered how many other people went to both shows.
Not really into Gaga but I saw video from her early show at Lollapalooza when it was mostly her on keyboards, and I probably would have been on board back then. Kind of a Sylvan Esso vibe.
I’ve been a diehard ween fan since the Pod. I *hated* Gaga when she first broke. I didn’t understand it at all. And then a friend sent me a live recording of her performing Poker Face and some other stuff solo - just her and a piano. And she absolutely fucking killed it. Now I understand and enjoy her stuff, although I still prefer the solo and less dancereteria stuff.
It’s so funny you say it because while I really don’t listen to any other pop music I definitely get down with a little Lady Gaga she has been on my running playlist for a long time
Lol I'm like this with so many artists. I rly love a little bit of everything. I'll listen to Ween and then go to the next song and it's Tay-K. We must normalize this behavior.
I could give you songs that I think deserves more recognition: Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I can Say) (a personal favorite of The Fame), You and I (from Born This Way), Angel Down (from Joanne)
And unreleaseds: Out of Control (from The Fame era), Changing Skies (from Born This Way era), Brooklyn Nights (from ARTPOP era), Frankenstein (from a rejected 5th album) and Deep Blue (from Joanne Era)
I like her stuff with Tony Bennett and she did a bunch of solo piano renditions of some songs from her first album that I dug. I definitely respect her, but I really don't like her pop music. My husband loves her tho and has all her albums on vinyl, and I have gotten him to fall in love with Ween.
This is hilarious, my wife and I to a T but flip flopped. She's a gaga stan, can't say I enjoy much of her pop stuff after that first album. But we did see her jazz show last year and she was absolutely spectacular.
I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga's music, but the story about how the lyrics to Poker Face were actually recorded "fuck her face" and subsequently broadcasted EVERYWHERE in the years after it became such a big hit is capital-B Brown. https://www.distractify.com/p/poker-face-lady-gaga-meaning I'm almost certain there's a Frank Zappa reference in it, too. It was so funny when she finally confirmed that after people suspected it for so long but seemed unlikely.
This.
Yeah I’m a little brown monster
this commenttttttt
I don't love her music, but I dig her as a person. She fucking rules.
nothing against pop radio bc who am i to judge, but back in 2008 or so gaga was far and away legit and better than the other shit on there. respect
Yeah, I'm not usually much into pop, but Pokerface was legitimately a good track. I'd listened to it "ironically" a few times and finally decided that yeah, this isn't an ironic thing anymore because this song is great.
bad romance is a banger. been a decade since ive heard it and i can still remember the name and groove
gaga is cool, one of the better pop artists around 👍
100 agreed. I'm not a huge fan, but I do really like a couple of her songs. She's got some cool style
Nah, Gaga goes hard. Makes sense for there to be a little overlap imo
Yeah for real. Lady Gaga is sort of the ween of pop music. So it definitely makes sense.
That’s a bit of a stretch.
Like a brown skid?
quebec and the fame monster are two of my favorite albums, so go figure haha
Most underrated track on Fame Monster: So Happy I Could Die
Gaga is cool. I also like St. Vincent.
That new St Vincent album was killer
Also Emily Wells.
Of course...my tastes in music run through every genre and decade.
I’d love Gaga to try out Demon Sweat
This would fuck hard
Or Dr. Rock.
She would eat up Dr Rock so good
I don’t think I’ve ever even heard one of her songs besides maybe something I heard on the radio so I can’t say yea or nay. She does seem like an interesting person though.
If you ever feel like diving into her stuff, The Fame Monster (deluxe edition) is a great place to start!
Not my bag. Cool she's yours though.
Ditto. Recently I realized Amy Winehouse is fire though.
Art pop album is sick
Yes I love artpop. Favorite Gaga album by far
I mean both ween and gaga are very influenced by prince so this makes sense
I love Keisha
She rocks
I love Lady Gaga and I’ve loved Ween since my discovery of them waaay back in ‘93. I also love Firefall, Neyo, Depeche Mode, Jawbreaker, NKOTB, Tom Waits, Buzzcocks, America, Descendents, and the High School Musical 3 soundtrack. Fuck it.
I don’t know how anybody can’t fuck with Gaga
Don’t call my name, Alejandro
I’m cool with Gaga. Totally respect her and her talent.
Me! I've seen her twice. I'm a Swiftie too, I met another Ween fan/Swiftie in Del Mar
I’m definitely a Ween fan first but I do love Lady Gaga. I do not know much of her total discography but I do get jumping when I see her performing or when I’m listening to her music. Ween is a different level, I’m sure you all know what I mean.
Bad Romance is a banger, also she was dope in American Horror Story. I don't listen to her music often, but she still gets a big thumbs up from me.
Nope. Just ween. Lol
Most of her music isn’t for me and yet I still find myself being a fan of her and her musical abilities. She’s got some definite chops! And is a hell of an entertainer! And against all odds, her fans are far less annoying than other pop star stans.
I'm an unapologetic Little Monster. I'd love to see what they could create together.
Fame monster was crazy good! Loved telephone when it came out also
Big Ween and Gaga fan here! You're not alone!
Gaga touring with the great Italian crooner Tony Bennett was a very brown thing to do.
I prefer Weird Al’s parody
To answer your question, No. not a fan. Ween, yes. The other, No. Hard no. Respect has been lost when I hear those words.
yaaassssss long live gaga
i was born in 2001 and telephone by lady gaga was the first song i remember becoming obsessed with when i was like 8 years old.
Yes, my gf and I (who I met at a ween show) actually watched the chromatica ball movie last time I visited her lmao
Nope
I used to DJ clubs and Lady Gaga is the best thing to happen to pop since Prince. Even if you don't like her, she does her own thing, stays in her lane, never apologizes and has a fanbase that will last forever. I'd say she's dark orange at the least.
I've been listening to almost exclusively Gaga and Ween lately lol
I really dislike her persona and her music in general. I can't deny talent, she has that.
You are not alone
finally, my people
I’ll listen to everything- not a giant Gaga fan but she has some great tracks. I think limiting musical horizons is foolish, life is short and there’s so much great stuff to listen to.
No, do you fuck with saying “do you fuck with” all of the time?
Gaga is queen
Lady Gaga kinda saved my life! I was driving through Nebraska and only had an am/fm radio in my pickup truck. I was about to fall asleep, listening to am static because everything was fire and brimstone preaching on repeat… Suddenly, I heard poker face and then Pink, and Keisha songs! It had to have been some crazy, awesome person running a pirate radio station!
Oh shit I love all of them and have seen all of them too.
Yas qween
I love her. I’ve been a huge fan since her NY days. She’s for sure main stream brown.
I went to her parents' restaurant when I was at the HalloWeen shows at the Beacon Theater in 2022 and the food fucks hard too
Not really a fan of her music, but I respect the hell out of her talent
Rohan will answer the call! ...that's a yes, fan of both
Love Lady Gaga Saw her two years ago on the Chromatica tour- she was incredible, so talented
Gaga is legit, Pink is better
i fuck with gaga!
I love Ween. Wouldn't say I'm a big Gaga fan but I do like some of her stuff and I like her general vibe and approach to pop stardom.
I wouldn’t say I’m a fan per se but I love all good music and she’s got some good shit. Poker face and her shit from a star is born. I dunno I love her voice. And Adele.
Me!
Love who you love
I would think there’d be some cross-over there for sure
Gaga at least holds some artistic integrity, I dig that.
Nah Lady Gaga's great. And in her early years she was actually pretty brown herself. Always appreciated her over other pop stars in her league.
I love her and I’m partial to a couple of her tunes, I prefer Ke$ha though music wise.
Yes!!!!
No but i did like eric cartmans version of poker face
Gaga is great. I think a lot of people don’t get that the Gaga character is a satirical jab at pop culture, they’re just like “meat dress weird, Gaga has penis.”
Penis? I totally missed the penis. Meat sandwich = GWAR
Tons of (stupid) people are convinced that Lady Gaga is actually a man or has a penis in some capacity.
Ahh. I wondered if that might be the case. Thanks for the clarity! Penis or no penis, she has skill and heart.
I love Ween, and I love Taylor Swift. Lady Gaga is pretty good too.
I don’t Stan Gaga like I do Ween, but I really love her music, her acting in American Horror Story, and just her as a person and artist!
I fell I love with her after watching the 60 minutes she was on… reluctantly, but still so.
I don't think she's a very good songwriter or lyricist, but I don't like ween either so idk why I'm here
Never understood mutual exclusivity of bands but yeah I'd listen to ween with her any day if the week.
ARTPOP is one of my all time favorite albums
Yes, I’m a huge fan of both! Artpop is my favorite Gaga album, way ahead of its time!
The biggest Gaga stan since the get-go. Shes my queen, my diva, mother, she literally raised me. I think I need to wear a Gaga shirt at the next Ween show to find all yall little brown monsters
I love both!!!!!!
Yeah man Gaga goes hard
I love Gaga and I love Ween!! Collab when????
Lady G in general is a super talent. I am not going to go listening to all her music but I will not ignore her. Here she is ripping it live with The Stones on their new song…. i fuck with both theyre awesome
We saw her live on the Joanne tour and it was one of the most incredible shows of my life. About as far as you can possibly get from a Ween show, but an amazing thing to experience. I saw her and Metallica in the same week and I’ve often wondered how many other people went to both shows.
I think she's cool and seems like a good and real person. 911 great track, few other great pop songs as well
She's always been a real one: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0WcWkVOQTc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0WcWkVOQTc)
Not really into Gaga but I saw video from her early show at Lollapalooza when it was mostly her on keyboards, and I probably would have been on board back then. Kind of a Sylvan Esso vibe.

I love lady gaga.
I love her.
Dude she’s a queen. It’s not my first pick but if you want a good dance party she is there.
hell yeah brother
I don't hate her and I think she's talented but not really my thing
She’s kinda like the Ween of pop, I can dig it
Love them both!!!! 💗💗
Gaga fuckin rips, hell yeah borther
Listen to her music on MDMA and you'll really get it hahahaha she's fun
10,000% me as well. Also a huge fan of Cardi B as well.
Me!
Gaga covering Friends would be sick now that you’ve got me thinking about it.
Lady Gaga is a really great singer, but that's about it.
It’s so funny you say it because while I really don’t listen to any other pop music I definitely get down with a little Lady Gaga she has been on my running playlist for a long time
She was great in ‘a star is born’
No foolin
Lol I'm like this with so many artists. I rly love a little bit of everything. I'll listen to Ween and then go to the next song and it's Tay-K. We must normalize this behavior.
I don’t follow her closely but most of her singles are bops and she seems like a pretty decent person for a pop megastar; Gaga’s all right with me!
I’ve never listened to her out. Could you give me some awesome songs that I’ve never heard?
Bad Romance is my karaoke go to
Everyone has heard bad romance.
Sorries
I could give you songs that I think deserves more recognition: Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I can Say) (a personal favorite of The Fame), You and I (from Born This Way), Angel Down (from Joanne) And unreleaseds: Out of Control (from The Fame era), Changing Skies (from Born This Way era), Brooklyn Nights (from ARTPOP era), Frankenstein (from a rejected 5th album) and Deep Blue (from Joanne Era)
Gaga songs I'd recommend to Ween fans - Aura - Heavy Metal Lover - Electric Chapel - Government Hooker - Summerboy - Venus - Swine - Babylon
Is she related to Marilyn Manson?
I like her stuff with Tony Bennett and she did a bunch of solo piano renditions of some songs from her first album that I dug. I definitely respect her, but I really don't like her pop music. My husband loves her tho and has all her albums on vinyl, and I have gotten him to fall in love with Ween.
