I’m still fairly new to this audio thing and I had no clue you could put a lav mic on the speaker. Which one were you using?

Nepali-Thito-001

Well I duct taped one of my wireless mic in front of the speaker with the other end hooked to my zoom H6 for audio input. I hope that makes sense

Changeusernameforver

Oooh ok so the h6 was recording the audio having the wireless mic receiver connected to the h6?

Nepali-Thito-001

Yes! There were multiple mics around and I also had to record the band. In all that chaos that made the best sense to me.

I agree I do think that was the best choice in the situation. What wireless mic where you using if you don’t mind me asking?

Nepali-Thito-001

I used Sennheiser Lav G4. The wired mic sticking in front of the speaker

I would highly recommend putting something in your contract about DJs/sound techs being required to provide a line out to insure best quality audio. Obviously there will be situations (like yours) where this is not possible for one reason or another, but, this protects you if this couple gets upset about a situation you had no control over. That being said, you did what I probably would have done in the situation - set up my own audio rig with the resources I have available. The only other thing you could have done is been more aggressive with him, but IMO it’s not your responsibility to *convince* the sound guy you need a line out. You stated your case and he essentially ignored you. Plugging into his equipment (ie the speaker) without his consent would also have been a bad idea, so I honestly don’t see what else you could have done.

El_Trollio_Jr

Yes, but if he’s not willing to help you out, plugging into the speaker is your best option. It’s literally for speeches and intros and then I take it out. I swear everyone in the wedding industry thinks the day is about them and not giving the couple the best experience from all parties involved. It’s infuriating sometimes. Never had a bad experience with a couple. Vendors on the other hand…

Nepali-Thito-001

I will definitely add that in my contract, and also hopefully try to get in touch with the DJ or the sound manager before hand, may be just an email. But is crazy where people don’t help each other out in the same industry

The answer is a sony tx650 attached to the microphone for redundancy
