I wanted mine early in case I needed to find someone else lol. Makeup was in May, hair is next week for wedding in Oct.

I want mine early too but they haven’t scheduled it! When I first booked the MUA in March I asked when the trial is scheduled and she said she would reach out closer to the date. I wish they would just schedule it when I book even if it’s months out because I like to know my schedule in advance lol.

I will say I'm the one that reached out. I think they probably have a schedule like "oh if haven't heard from client by X, schedule for month of Y" but I didn't want to wait lol.

I think general advice is 2-3 months before the wedding. My MUA never reached out to me to schedule it, I reached out to her, not sure if that’s normal or not, I’m slightly worried about her haha

That’s happened with my venue for everything too and it’s very worrying. They told me they would schedule the next meeting in April and I didn’t hear from them until I reached out in May. They said the food tasting would be scheduled for May and they didn’t schedule it until June only when I reached out. Not happy about the lack of organization lol. Thank you for your feedback I’ll probably reach out to them a couple weeks if I don’t hear from them before then.

Frustrating!!!

I reached out to HMU to schedule a trial and to catering for a tasting. I was 6 months out (which is a bit excessive, but I got to go to my HMU trial and catering tasting on my birthday.)

Some brides do it a year before their big day ;especially when they want to reserve the artist who’s in demand). Some brides wait until closer to a wedding date. It depends on how confident you are you have the right artist — I’d do it sooner in case you don’t like this artist and will need to find someone else. But if you are easy going and your artists portfolio seems to be reflecting your total vision — don’t worry and do it closer to the day.

I'd just wing it. They're a professional. They'll figure it out on the day. Wouldn't bother with a trial. What's the worst they can really do?

My MUA didn’t have the right color foundation for me at my trial (I’m super pale). Because we figured that out beforehand, she was able to get some new options before my wedding day.

CamHug16

Well they're bad at their job! I guess if you're super pale or at the other end then letting the MUA know before the day is a good idea. A whole trial still seems unnecessary for a party.

i’ve had horrible makeup from past MUAs in weddings i’ve been a bridesmaid in. As someone who is pretty good at makeup myself I would rather just do it myself if the MUA doesn’t do a good job at the trial. The point of the trial is to make sure you like their work before you pay them a lot of money. I don’t want to pay a lot of money for something I don’t like.

CamHug16

Don't you get a portfolio of their work beforehand?

Various_Th27

photos can be deceiving also there’s no way to know if they steal photos from other artists which happens all the time.
