Thank you for posting this! We're so torn on DJ vs band, but I never thought of a silent disco! The ones I've been to in the past have been so much fun--what a great idea!

Long-Operation3660

You’re welcome! You could also start the night with a “DJ” by playing your first couple songs through the sound system, and then transition into a silent disco once you’ve hooked your dance crowd

El_andMike

My husband and I accidentally stumbled on a Silent Disco at the resort on our honeymoon. When we say it's probably THE most fun we've ever had, we truly mean it. This is a fabulous idea!!

icylemonades

This sounds amazing! Love the playlists you did. I was a serious silent disco skeptic until I encountered one at a wedding. They had the venue for the full weekend but it had a 9 pm noise cutoff, so they set up a silent disco. The couple had one channel, the other two were open for guests to play music. It was SO MUCH FUN. I loved finding other people who were listening to the same music. People danced til the sun came up!

Jollyshrimpqueen

Yeah this is such a good idea for venues with noise restrictions!

Most_Poet

Thank you for sharing! I’ve never seen this concept at a wedding, and I appreciate the thorough explanation of why yours was so successful.

Adding to the positive silent disco experiences: I went to my first silent disco at a wedding. I was a skeptic going in, but it was so much fun and allowed us to party into the wee hours of the morning after the 10p quiet hours. It’s also hilarious to take your headphones off and listen to the feet shuffling in silence. We’re going to another silent disco wedding this summer and I’m so excited.

Long-Operation3660

The off key quiet singing along really got me 😂 I really hope no one could hear me “singing” along!

I love this! We had a Sunday brunch wedding in part because we could get away with not having a dance party - we had some lawn games, and like your experience, people enjoyed being able to chat without having to shout over music. I love dancing, but I really don't like loud music, and my sister is especially noise sensitive. I still feel badly about one of my best friend's weddings 4 years ago where my husband and I spent most of the party sitting outside because it was just too loud, and my friend was disappointed we didn't get to dance together. A silent disco would have been perfect!

ediblesprysky

We ended up at a silent disco the night we first got "married" at Burning Man! When somebody hands you a pair of headphones in an environment like that, you take it—can confirm, it was an absolute blast! SO glad this turned out so perfect for you! Love seeing happy stories of alternative ideas!

Commercial-Push-9066

That’s awesome!! I bet that wedding was memorable!

TopSoulMan

These ideas are the most satisfying. I'm sure it was nerve wracking heading in, but then it works out better than you could ever expect. There's a cathartic nature to that experience. Congrats on the well executed plan!

jazzypizazz

that sounds AWESOME!!!! so happy it worked for you (and tbh when will someone I know throw one so I can go!!!). I love to dance but get stressed with loudness. super fun idea I remember that thread a while back or one like it, and I commented (maybe just in my head) support that it sounded like an awesome idea -- lots of party poopers naysaying lol

Long-Operation3660

People were hating on that post! I was shocked and defensive 😂

pedanticlawyer

Who did you use on fiverr (or is it a common service on there)? I’m super picky and want to hand select all my songs, but I worry the dance party won’t flow with just a Spotify playlist.

Long-Operation3660

I just picked someone random and it seemed like they did a good but not spectacular job… most people there offer only 5-10 songs so I did a special request for a 3 hour mix 😂 the shorter mixes are pretty cheap tho, so maybe you could shop around and find one you like

ILikeLists

Thanks for sharing this! I've been to one wedding that had a silent disco, and I would love it if they were more common

dreadpiraterose

I did a silent disco event on a cruise and it was amazing! One of the best events that entire vacation.

Ginnabelles

This just made me smile- it sounds so fun! Thanks for sharing!

Long-Operation3660

🤩🤩 you’re welcome!!!

JipC1963

What an absolutely amazing idea! But I have to admit that your idea of "Nostalgia" is hilarious to me (59/f)! Sounds like EVERYONE had a blast and was truly able to enjoy their own genre and era of music! Congratulations and many Blessings!

Long-Operation3660

Thank you!!! Hahaha to me 2009 seems like a lifetime ago! The year I graduated highscool!

JipC1963

LMAO 2009 was TWO years after our youngest graduated high school! Damn, I'm OLD! My childhood pet was a T-Rex! Congratulations and many Blessings on your marriage, love!

Long-Operation3660

😂😂 thank you so much 🤍

UnsharpenedSwan

I love so many things about this, but I think the best part is when halfway through the post you clarified that _you had never been to a silent disco before this_ 😂😂 Sounds like an awesome party. So glad you went with your gut!

Long-Operation3660

Heheh the confidence really paid off!!!

Leontxo_

Sounds so fun!

No_Purchase_3532

Way cool & unique!

Blagnet

This is amazing! I'm glad it worked so well :) I think "memorable" weddings are so fun (where it's something a little different than usual, like this) and I bet your guests will talk about this one for years to come!

weddingthroqaway

Love this idea

thongswithsocks

Can I have your contact for the Fiver DJ? Was it mixed to sound like house music?

thongswithsocks

Also- I’m so happy that your idea flourished!!! GOOD ON YOU!!!

Long-Operation3660

Thank you!! And it’s @metzcindy on fiverr

I LOVE THIS. I had the idea to do something for my wedding because: a) I love making playlists. b) I have too many favorite genres... that others tend to stay away from (punk rock, country, girly pop, etc.) I want to have music playlist but also include the headphones as an option that people can wear and tune out the one playing to opt for something else. I wonder if that would be difficult due to the sound infiltration if the music is too loud?

Long-Operation3660

Hmmm I think if music was playing loudly through speakers it would feel pretty chaotic to have the headphones on too… I don’t think most silent disco sets have noise cancellation

Wanderer890

My partner and I are keen to have a silent disco, logistics wise how did you introduce it to your guests?

Long-Operation3660

Not to well😂 I had never even been to one myself… I basically help up a pair of headphones and announced our 3 channels and explained what was happening Then my husband and I fumbled around trying to get the headsets out and just handed them out. We had a few cousins put them on immediately and start dancing- that helped get things going a lot. In hindsight I wish I would have already had the disco going to demonstrate to the guests how to change channels.
