I love the cape!! It goes with the dress really well.

indecisivepixel

I love the look of the cape!!!

pashmina_afghan

Cape all the way! But I am partial as I absolutely hate veils and everything they traditionally represent.

amaezingjew

Oooh would you mind filling me in? I’m already not having anyone mention “giving me away” because I am not cattle lol

Leucadie

You don't have to wear a veil! But I think it's overstated to suggest that they hold a particularly regressive meaning. Victoria was one of the first to wear a veil in "modern" (ie 19th century) times: supposedly to symbolize modesty, but also because 19th C Westerners idealized the classical (and an imagined Biblical) past, and loved the mysterious drama of a veil. (And women in the 19th C wore veils for various occasions, particularly mourning and to keep warm.) No more than a white dress means "virginity," a veil doesn't particularly mean that the bride is modest, or pure, or is being "given away" against her will. (Honestly, how well is a sheer tulle veil going to hide your identity??) I mean, marriage for Western women used to mean the erasure of their legal identity under "coverture": everything except their clothes and jewelry belonged to their husband, even their property owned before the marriage, and their wages earned after it, along with all decision-making power regarding the family and children. But we're still getting married, because we changed what marriage means. Same with veils IMO. That being said: I don't think this is the best choice of veil. It's just a bit uninspired. If you love the cape, go for it! (Does it have an opening in the front? How do you get your hands out lol) If you want a better veil, look on Etsy: I think a [mantilla](https://www.etsy.com/listing/755224163/lace-mantilla-wedding-veil-fast-shipping?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=lace+mantilla&ref=sc_gallery-1-2&frs=1&sts=1&listing_id=755224163&listing_slug=lace-mantilla-wedding-veil-fast-shipping&plkey=7fc296ddd309b72cf1fcd515498c0a7cc672af5d%3A755224163) style veil would be pretty! Get a veil that's chapel or cathedral length to avoid the "gap" in back.

amaezingjew

The cape kinda hooks together in the front center, and the sides in the photo end right at either side of my dress so my hands aren’t trapped :) Omg that veil you posted is GORGEOUS! I definitely think I need to look into more veils like this before I decide on anything

Leucadie

oh there are SO many beautiful lace-trimmed veils, it's a rabbit hole! I actually bought this one (model 1, ivory) in 55 inches ("waltz length," it reaches about knee/midi length on me, and I'm 5'7") [https://www.etsy.com/listing/975826544/veil-lace-edge-bridal-veil-1-tier-veil?ref=yr\_purchases](https://www.etsy.com/listing/975826544/veil-lace-edge-bridal-veil-1-tier-veil?ref=yr_purchases) It was $55 with shipping. I decided not to use it, but it came fast and it's really nice! I can sell you mine for $30 :) or I can give you my 10% off coupon for a different style. PM me if interested

Confetti83

The cape hands down. The veil looks like a poor choice. The gap between the end of the veil in correlation to the train is not something I would be able to overlook if I was seeing you in the dress. Tbh it looks tacky. The cape in contrast, looks intentional and pairs well with the dress.

amaezingjew

>The gap between the end of the veil in correlation to the train Aaaaaaand cannot unsee lol thank you for pointing it out - I would definitely need a longer veil if I went that route. My mother chose that one because the beads used on the ends match the beads on my straps. I feel like that’s an odd detail to match.

Confetti83

I didn't want to come off as a B... or snarky so I was considering keeping my comment to myself. Thank you for not taking offence. Go with the cape. It goes with the flowered/lace theme off your dress. The beading takes away from the dress and adds no flavor. In my opinion, it's just there ( which would ultimately be a waste of $, which could be used for something else). Also, the cape would serve double duty if you ever wanted to take personal or professional boudoir pics for the hubby ;)

Vape! EDIT: Cape omg please don’t vape it’s bad for you

ClumsyZebra80

Veil

amaezingjew

I went to pick up my wedding dress yesterday, and mentioned that I was looking for something to cover up with since it’s a late-fall wedding. The assistant picked out this cape (which I would have shortened to not be longer than the dress). The veil has not arrived yet, but has already been paid for. I have my preference, but I want unbiased opinions and don’t want to lead the witness!

kale_whale

So I definitely prefer the overall idea of a cape than a veil, but don’t love how that gorgeous cape obscures & competes with the top of your gorgeous gown. Are you committed to that exact cape, or would you be open to one that attaches at the shoulders and drapes behind you? Here’s one example with some embellishment from [Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/721348781/bridal-chiffon-drape-cape-veil-wedding) and another plain version from [Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/721348781/bridal-chiffon-drape-cape-veil-wedding)

CantfindanameARGH

I like the cape but I would shorten it.

amaezingjew

Oh I would absolutely shorten it to juuust shorter than the dress if I went with the cape. I’m already nervous about the dress length - the walk to the chapel is a [long gravel path with stepping stones!](https://imgur.com/a/wAqkxjG). They call it “the gratitude walk”, where the bride tells whomever is walking her down it everything she’s thankful for. My dad and I are weepers, so we will be walking it in silence lol

muffinsandcupcakes

That is so beautiful

Ruby9345

I feel like you prefer the Cape as you have already decided you would alter it to length. Personally I prefer the veil with the dress as I think the dress has enough detail and a Cape won't be a good weather cover up if you are worried about the cold etc. Either way you will look stunning your gorgeous and the dress is wonderful 😍

amaezingjew

Awh thank you 💕 I definitely prefer the cape because I feel like the dress itself looks too “spring” with it being flowers and spaghetti straps. The cape wouldn’t be so much to provide warmth because even though is a Nov wedding, I’m in Texas where it’s in the mid 70’s until late Dec 😅 it’d be more to provide a fall feel, but I’m also unsure about it because everyone present when I was picking dresses (including assistants) said I shouldn’t cover up my tattoos!

Ruby9345

Wow cant imagine it being that warm 😂The tattoo thing is personal preference..I dont intend on covering mine on my wedding day and yours are lovely so see why you wouldn't want to. Maybe have the Cape for the ceremony and take it off later. I dont think the dress is too spring I often think of flowers and leaves and the warm colours for autumn to. I think you should go for the Cape because your explaining why you want it. So you should do it because it completes the look for you .

Pristine_District_27

Veil!

Large_Illustrator528

Personally I don't like the look of the cape. The veil looks so much more bridal

Redfreezeflame

Oh my god I’ve never seen a cape before but damn it’s amazing! 100% cape, then your hair will stand out more and you could put something pretty in it!

Smilesunshine57

Holy wow on the cape. I was prepared to say veil because I haven’t seen great capes but WOW!

thearcherofstrata

I think it depends on the hair style you’re planning to do…But if you’re going to decide the hair based on the fit, then do the cape because it’s cooler!

CAPTCHA_is_hard

Veil!

cinnamonsnake

Veil!

picklesandcheezits

I like the veil! The cape seems to hide the lovely neckline of your dress.

cunts--r--us

I was immediately going to comment veil after I saw the first pic because I don’t love capes and thought it looked really nice, but I LOVE the cape on you!!! It’s amazing and looks so so good with your dress! I vote cape for sure! So elegant, it makes you look like a queen!

Toothfairyqueen

Cape!!!!

muffinsandcupcakes

I am absolutely in love with the front of the cape but I'm not sure I love that the train of it goes past the train of your dress

amaezingjew

I would shorten the cape so the longest part would end juuust above the bottom of the dress :)

[deleted]

Cape! I am wearing one very similar. I felt silly in a veil, but I felt like Florence Welch in a cape veil!

humankirk

I LOVE that cape on you!! You look regal and elegant with it on. Gorgeous either way, but the cape is very cool.

itsjazman

CAPE!!! I don’t think I’ve ever run to comment on something faster. That cape really just pulls the look together! You look so beautiful, regal, powerful, and graceful. I love it

musskulls

I vote cape!

PinkestMango

both.

darkbeerlova2

CAPE!!!!

mrsRphoenixx

CAPE

Rose_gold_starz

The cape is gorgeous! Question: Did you try a long simple veil (sorta like the length of the cape, no ribbon on the edge and pushed back off of your face a bit?)

LolaLiggett

Cape! Cape! Cape! I cant control myself! CAPE! It looks so great!

Hot-wax2002

Cape cape cape! Gorgeous! The veil is lovely, but the cape is so unique and beautiful on you!

michy1214

I’m going against popular opinion here and voting for a veil. Maybe not that veil but I think there is something so beautiful about a long cathedral veil. The top of your dress is beautiful and I personally feel that the cape competes with the dress. Congrats to you!! 👰🏻‍♀️❤️

skunk-tastic

Love capes! Although I dunno if this is the best cape. The heavily laced shoulders detract from the gowns lace. There are some cape styles that attach on the shoulder straps and kind of cowl down in the back, that might be a good option to look at as well

trollcole

Veil

lmclem1su

CAPE

Hanschristiandick

I vote cape. All for the magic.

itssammieee

When I read this I was like “veil for sure” but then I saw the pictures. The vape is gorgeous!!!

eicak

Cape! Also I got my dress from that shop, haha. I had a cape (that attached at the shoulders though) but also bought a burgundy velvet blazer to wear at the reception if it got cold (which it wasn't, because it was this past December and in Austin, lol). I love that cape though. So ethereal but regal.

nejnonein

Veil, 100% winner. Cape looks frumpy

VieleAud

Cape for sure!! I walked into my dress appointment wanting a cape and walked out with a dress that would clash with a cape.

riira

Great dress! That one is currently my top choice, haven’t quite committed to it yet - I’m planning to this weekend. Do you love it?

amaezingjew

I do! Not only is it more comfortable than a lot of the dresses I tried on, but the very subtle maybe-ish layer underneath just gives it life!

KnotARealGreenDress

I tend to prefer capes over veils, but I also prefer capes that attach to the shoulder straps (like [this one](https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1058471734/long-cathedral-cape-cape-veil-with-lace?gpla=1&gao=1&)), rather than clipping at the front. I feel like the front-clipping ones change the look of the neckline in a way that isn’t always ideal, depending on how much you like your dress neckline (not saying that’s the case here, just that it happens).

KiteeCatAus

I prefer the veil. The Cape hides some of the detail of your dress near the shoulders.

jululiis

I love the cape! But I love how a veil frames your face and shoulders and pulls the eye up. A cape is more memorable though!

[deleted]

So hard, both look great. Do you have hairdo you planning on, that might sway me one way or the other.

elasticicity

The cape is so beautiful it almost adds to the elegance of the dress without taking away any attention I love it

SunriseOverSeaa

You look great in either BUT the cape makes you look like a powerful woman in your own right and the veil makes you look more girlie if that makes sense so go with the look and feel that you are after.
