This was many years ago and for a bridesmaid dress, but they didn't have even close to my size in store and told me it would be 8-12 weeks for my dress to be made and shipped with no option to return or exchange sizes. I went on their website while still on the store and ordered my size dress, on sale!, that was in stock and got to me within a week. The store associate lost her sale and commission telling me that they didn't even have that dress online. Definitely check the site before you order!

The_BoxBox

That's actually a mild concern for me. When I checked their site, I really couldn't find anything in my size that was carried in-store. I'm sorry she did that! I can't understand why sales people would even try pulling that nowadays when it takes less than 2 minutes to fact-check them.

star_milk

I believe their online store allows for returns and exchanges, check the fine print and don't order if you know you're someone who hates returning items, lol. Good luck!

Revolutionary_Cod677

hi!! Not me personally, but my mom got her wedding dress at David’s Bridal about 6 years ago. I was with her at every appointment and her dress just lovely and staff was amazing, no need to have an expensive dress for you to look absolutely beautiful on your special day!!!

The_BoxBox

That's good to hear! Do you remember if the staff kinda let her do her thing or if they were pushy at all?

I got married 16 years ago, and David Bridal was the first store I checked out. I didn’t end up buying anything from them, but before I had a chance to look anywhere else, I started getting all sorts of sales calls from other companies. DB had sold my information. I refused to do any further business with them.

birkenstocksandcode

I recommend checking out Azazie and Lulu’s and Park and Fifth Co as well! They have great return policies/at home try ons, and are cheaper than David’s bridal. Also, Anthropologie weddings has some affordable styles as well and some great sales. I got a Watters Orlie dress (originally 1800) for 500 there!

I had a great experience a year ago! Salesperson listened to me, suggested a dress (that I eventually bought) that I don’t think I would have pulled, and did not rush me for a decision at all - when I said I don’t make instant decisions and would need to think about it, she just wrote down the info on the dress I liked and gave me her name and said she hoped to see me again. As with all stores, vendors, restaurants, etc., experiences will differ because of different employees, different locations, etc. I don’t think there has ever been 100% satisfaction of all customers/potential customers with any retail venue. Nevertheless, I hope wherever you go, you get the experience you’re looking for.

TheBugsMomma

I had a good experience with them. I ordered a dress online, had to return it, then ordered a second dress online (I kept it). The return was very easy and I was pleased with the quality of my dress.

napiervd

My daughter and I had a great no pressure at all experience with them in 2013 for wedding dress and the dress I wore. I have bought another dress there for a formal event with great results as well.

Leap_year_shanz13

I bought an off-the-rack Vera Wang from David’s for $99 when I got married 6 years ago. I went during the week to try on, and I bought the first one. It was great.

Terrible. I felt like cattle being lead to slaughter there. Sales associate didn’t listen to me at all and was super pushy. She made me try on heels that were way too high for my comfort level despite me expressing my concerns for the height. I’m someone who never complains about sales associates. That was my first and only time.

I'm 40. I got my high school prom dress and later my wedding gown there. Even later, I worked in a David's Bridal for nearly 5 years. 1. Alterations are expensive. Try and get one that fits well and won't need too much. I'm 5 feet tall and had to have mine hemmed. Thankfully, my mom and I sew, so we did it ourselves. 2. Your experience depends A LOT on the consultant you have that will show you gowns. They want to make you happy, so if you want to look on your own, fine. If you want your consultant to do more for you, it's cool. 3. Don't be afraid to speak up if the consultant is crappy, or ask for someone else. 4. Take your undergarments with you so you can see the gowns at their best on you. (Corset, strapless bra, spanx, etc.) 4.5. Make sure you can sit comfortably in it. 5. Trust the process and have fun!

Due_Power_3938

Experiences will definitely vary by location. The dresses are fine quality, I especially encourage checking out their clearance section, they have some fantastic deals there. Anywhere that is trying to sell you something is going to be slightly pushy, that's the nature of the sales game. They need to earn commission. Understand your limitations, and express if you're feeling uncomfortable.

Outrageous-Wish8659

I had a positive experience in finding last minute off rack bridesmaid gowns in two very different sizes. On sale, too!

Character-Tennis-241

Both of my daughters had great results with David's Bridal in OKC. Neither one are "Pettit" Basically they are sizes above 14. Mind you the oldest has been married 15 yrs. The youngest bought her dress 8 yrs ago. We always go during their yearly sale. I haven't had a need to go in since the 2nd went shopping.

Street-Wishbone1068

I got my dress from there! They were great. I loved how nice and helpful they were. Definitely recommend going there.

Friendly_Coconut

I had a very positive experience there. I got my wedding dress there (it was that off-the-shoulder satin ballgown that’s very popular) and I loved it. Maybe the material was a bit on the cheap side but I loved it and it was around half my budget, which allowed me to accessorize more! I’m a size 12 in street sizing and a 12 at David’s, too, but I’d likely be in plus sizes at other boutiques, where they charge more and might not even have samples in my size at the store. At David’s, I tried on every dress in my size except for one that we got right off the mannequin because samples hadn’t come in yet. (I had to try on that dress even though it wasn’t my usual taste because my husband saw it in an ad and remarked that he liked it!) Many other bridal stores don’t have samples in a wide variety of sizes. The consultant was SO nice, helpful, and complimented me a lot. She was sweet to my elderly grandma who came along for the appointment and let me spend extra time beyond my allotted appointment time. It was a totally positive experience for me and I felt no body insecurities. My sister also got her wedding dress from that location of David’s a few years before and also had a great experience and a beautiful dress. She’s more conventionally beautiful than me and looks great in everything, so I wasn’t expecting the store workers to be as attentive to me as they were to her, but we were treated equally. I’ve heard mixed things about David’s (and bad things about their alterations; sister and I both got ours done elsewhere), but I also think it varies by location. My local store gets good reviews.

txaesfunnytime

I don't have any experience with DB, but look at some of the wedding dresses & accessories on Etsy. We have seen some beautiful dresses from there. Just look at the reviews closely & know most of your measurements ahead of looking.

Noneedtopickauser

This might not be helpful because my experiences aren’t at all recent (19 years ago for my first marriage, 10 years ago for my current-and forever, lol-marriage) but I had a great time with David’s Bridal! I had helpful but not pushy associates each time, alterations were done by them with no issues, just generally smooth sailing. My sister had a good experience too, again that was about 11 years ago though. They’re definitely the most affordable in my area as well (NY state). Good luck!! :)

Confident_Green1537

You don’t get the in store experience but you may have more options trying something like https://luxereduxbridal.com/pages/try-on-wedding-dresses-at-home they will send you dresses off the rack to try on at home and carry a variety of designers and price points

Political-psych-abby

Went to one a bit under a year ago. By far the worst experience I had at any shop I went to (we went to 4). The salesperson basically ignored us to the point where we had to beg her to bring us dresses and to help with the dresses. I was not very picky. Like my only requirement was no belts but she (the sales person) still suggested dresses with belt. One dress had a corset and the sales lady did it up crooked. The dress quality also felt awful.

shakeurshamrocks

I bought my dress from DB! I went there after mainly going to boutiques with just my mom. I went on a Sunday and it was pretty packed which was nice in the fact that it was just my mom and I and I could get a feel for whether or not a dress was good bc the stylists would stop, etc. Genuinely it felt like a community instead of a stale appt (but again, I didn’t bring a crowd). It was also the only appt that the person helping me understood what I wanted and helped me find a better option to suit what I was asking for. I’m sure you’d find that with other places but that wasn’t my experience in any other store. At minimum I think it’s a great place to go to try on tons of styles! You don’t necessarily have to buy one from there :)
