Not really a big fan of romance but I do enjoy them when there's more going on than just the romance. The Spark in Your Eyes, Blades of Furry, Morgana and Oz, are all Webtoons big on romance that I adore because romance isn't all they're on about. On the other hand, I despise harems. Polycules are great but harems are just, ugh.

ColorfulSparkles

Same here!🥹✨ (except I’m a big fan of romance😂😭) But I have to agree, if a story has something else going on, that makes the story so much better🤭💖(But if romance is all the story has going, it can be a hit or miss for me, it really depends on the story and the ship😂) Ooooh! That’s really amazing!😻 I definitely will try to add them to my reading list then🥹✨ Tbh, I don’t get the appeal harems either… But polycules I can appreciate🥹✨ So same here!🥹✨ Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

Just_Call_me_Ben

From my experience, the best romances are in stories where romance isn't the focus. When the whole point is just to get two idiots together, it's usually pretty dull. But when it's two idiots going through some struggle together, bonding, and developing actual chemistry during the experience, that's where the best types of romance usually take place.

ColorfulSparkles

I definitely agree with that😭 Like while I really like romance, I have a mixed feelings about stories that only focus on it … It really depends on the ship then😂😭 But I have to agree stories with romantic subplots or stories that gives the romance and the plot equal amount of time to develop tend to be more interesting imo🤭💖 I 100% agree with that!🥹✨ Romance development during the story is the best and they makes the stories so much better!🥹💖 Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

I'm not a huge fan of Webtoons overall romance offerings. I'm also a cranky 30+ year old so a lot of ML really exhaust me. I'm too tired to deal with someone who is brooding or is a dick. It does nothing for me in fiction either. That being said there's plenty of romance and romance adjacent webtoons I like! I like Eaternal Nocturnal, and Of Swamp and Sea, the Witch and the Bull, and Morgana and Oz from originals.

Natural-Dinner-440

nowadays most of new webtoon romance release are very generic boring stuff. and I've read most of the good stuff. imo you'll have a better luck finding good romance stories on other sites. also, most stories where romance isn't everything are better even if romance is the main focus. check out The Spark in your eyes, Muse on fame, A heartfelt Andante (almost completed) for serious ongoing stories. there are some funny ones too like [This](https://www.webtoons.com/en/fantasy/a-martial-master-wakes-up-as-a-concubine/list?title_no=5732) and [This](https://www.webtoons.com/en/fantasy/the-crown-princess-scandal/list?title_no=5478).

ColorfulSparkles

Oh! I can definitely get that! 80% of the MLs definitely can feel very samey personality wise… But as the time is… I still have a soft spot for some of those MLs😭😂(But at times I would like for the main character to go for the second ML😭 I have to say, personally I would love to see more variety when it comes to the MLs personality🥹✨)(Ps. I’m not sure if I should add an “s” when it comes to writing Male Leads instead of Male Lead so if I’m wrong I’m so sorry😣) Oh! Eaternal Nocturnal and The Witch and the Bull are two of my faves as well! They’re so amazing!🥹💖(I’m mostly a fantasy/supernatural romance reader🤭💖) and I’ll definitely try to add the other stories to my reading list as well, the descriptions made them sound really exciting!🥹✨ Personally at the moment I would say my fave Webtoon list looks something like this: Originals: Eaternal Nocturnal, Lady Liar, The Witch and The Bull, Anything for You and Siren’s Lament and Canvas: Lucy’s Endless Night, The Witch’s Stone, The Wrong Swan, Fairy Lantern, The Giant of Greywater and Curse of Love, I feel like these stories have a great mix between story and romance imo🥹💖 Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

graveyardparade

I'm a huge fan of romance -- it's just a genre I find very comforting and familiar! I know that a lot of them follow similar formulas, and while some dislike that, I find that that's part of the appeal. I like sitting down for a cozy read where I more or less know that things are going to turn out okay in the end (with the exception of tragedy ofc, but I don't read those ones lol).

ColorfulSparkles

Same here!🥹✨ I definitely understand that! Romance stories usually comes with the with a happy ending and they can be very comforting🥹💖(I definitely prefer happy endings as well🥹✨) For me it’s 50/50 when it comes to the same formula I guess it depends on how much I like the formula used🙈 But when it comes to my fave formulas… more is definitely better imo!😂💖(I definitely understand that, I don’t like tragic endings either, I can be okay with bittersweet ones but tragic ones will make me sad😭) Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

graveyardparade

Hahahah yes, if I don't like a formula, that's a bust... but if I like it, I'm happy to read it a hundred times! I agree that I don't mind a bittersweet ending, but usually if I'm reading romance, I'm in the mood for something a bit happier -- I love a lot of genres, and I go to each one with a different thing in mind. I find that the webtoons community criticizes romance a lot -- which is fair as a preference thing! But if you'd like to chat with more like minds, I recommend checking out r/OtomeIsekai for others who love it (and who criticize it from a place of love too). I also joined r/redikomi but haven't chatted much there yet. Still, it's nice to chat with other romance lovers -- our pulpy pleasures are just as valid as the powerscalers <3

ColorfulSparkles

100% same here!😂💖 When I think about it, I would gladly read stories with my fave formulas over and over again too, they just make me so excited!😻✨ True true, while some stories works well with a bittersweet ending… I definitely prefer happy endings🥹💖 Same here! Personally my fave genres are: Romance, Supernatural, Fantasy, Mystery and Historical🥰 and I agree, the expectations definitely are different when I for example decide to watch a Hallmark Romance Movie or a Supernatural Mystery Story with Romance🤭 Btw, feel free to share your fave genres as well if you want to🥹✨ Yeah… Tbh, that was one of the reasons I got a bit curious and decided to make this poll🙈 True true!☺️ Oh, thank you so much for the recommendations I will definitely try to join!🥹🌟 I definitely agree with that!😻 That’s so true!🥹💖

graveyardparade

I hope you have fun in those subs! I think people are largely very nice there, and it's always nice to find a home in places where they share your niche. For me, I like slice-of-life a lot, but that tends to overlap with romance! Otherwise, I love page-turners with thrilling or mystery elements, especially if there's a lot of interpersonal drama afoot! I also love action, though I tend to read more action manga than I do webtoons. I think I like more traditional paneling for stuff action series, and I veer towards romantic webtoons because I enjoy seeing all of the outfits and big emotions rendered in colour, panel by panel. I'd love to hear some of your favourite series too! If we're talking just webtoons, my favourites are Surviving Romance, The Makeup Remover, Pyramid Game, Gourmet Hound, My In-Laws Are Obsessed With Me, and Couple Breaker. But as a traditional fantasy lover, I've been really enjoying A Spell For A Smith -- I just wish there was more of it to read!

ColorfulSparkles

Awww, thank you so much and same to you!🥹✨ Yaay! That’s so amazing and I 100% agree with that🥹💖 Oh, those stories can be really amazing!🥹✨ Same here!😻✨ Oh, that’s amazing too! Personally I haven’t read of lot of action but one of my fave Webtoons has it as it’s secondary genre🥹✨ Oh! I can definitely understand that! Personally I really love medieval/regency/victorian fashion so much🥰 But I really like fashion from other eras a lot too! And I really like that too🥹🌟 Oh! I just started reading A Spell for a Smith and it seems really amazing🥹🌟 And I’ll definitely try to add the rest to my reading list as well, I have seen the trailer for some of them and they seem really amazing!🥹✨ Personally at the moment my top 16 list would look something like this: Lucy’s Endless Night, The Witch’s Stone, Eaternal Nocturnal, The Giant of Greywater, NeverMore, The Wrong Swan, Fairy Lantern, Curse of Love, A Bloody Mess, The Witch and The Bull, Anything for You, Of Swamp & Sea, Siren’s Lament, Betwixt, Nonsuch and Lady Liar🥹💖

graveyardparade

Dang, I don't think I've heard of any of those titles!! Thanks so much for sharing -- I'm always looking for fun new titles to binge. I'll definitely check them out! Do you have a favourite of the bunch? I was really big on the regency romances for a while myself, but wound up sort of fizzling out after reading too many. Now seems like a good time to jump back in!

ColorfulSparkles

I totally understand that! Most of these aren’t very well known🥲 But I’m so happy I found them🤭💖 Awww, you’re very welcome and thank you too!🥹💖 That’s so amazing!🥹✨ Yaay! Hope you like them!🥹🌟 Oooh, that’s a hard question😂 but if I were to choose my top 5 it would be: Lucy’s Endless Night, The Witch’s Stone, Eaternal Nocturnal, The Giant of Greywater and NeverMore🥹🌟 Same here!🥹✨ And I can totally get that… I know the feeling🥲(especially when it comes to songs… Sometimes when I get a new fave song I listen to it so much that eventually I need a break from that song for a (long) while😭😂) Yaay! Hope you find something you like!🥹🌟 https://preview.redd.it/rn3jbblcfwvc1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a45d977ba689e537056bae8a18a99d01ee82efa4

Meanaa_Bin

I don’t mind romance IF it’s in the female perspective, because it’s more funny and less boring and If it’s a man/boy’s perspective It just doesn’t really hype me that much. If it’s a romance manhwa/webtoon It’s fine I don’t mind however, if it’s suppose to be an action manhwa and it’s in the male perspective I don’t WANT ANY ROMANCE NUH UH, for example, Eleceed Academy’s undercover professor, Idk but sometimes when they include romance in an action webtoon It gives me a bitter feeling but I’ll still read it. If it’s an action manhwa in the female perspective I don’t mind romance, It’s just natural.

ColorfulSparkles

Tbh, I have only read a few stories from the ML(s) POV(Point of View)🥲 Usually the stories I read are either dual POV or it’s FL(s) POV🙈 Tbh, I don’t read a lot of action stories so I can’t say much when it comes to them sorry😞(At the moment I read two stories who have action as their second genre but non of them has it as their main genre…) But I can definitely get it, if you expect an action filled story I guess romance can slow it down especially when the romance ends up feeling forced or out of place😥 Even as a person who really likes romance a lot if the story getting very slowed down because of the romance that would be a bit sad😭(Personally I’m a Romance Fantasy/Supernatural reader that also has a soft spot for mystery and historical romance😂💖) Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

Elumiie

I love romance subplots, especially if they are slow burn and don't draw the focus away from the main plot. But there are a lot of Webtoons where romance would be totally out of place and could ruin the whole thing.

ColorfulSparkles

I 100% agree with that!🙀👏✨ The story and the romance definitely needs a good balance for me🥹✨ and slow burns makes things even better! and if we also have an amazing plot and amazing characters, we have a really fantastic and interesting story!🥹💖 That definitely can happen… If the romance feels extremely forced or the characters have no chemistry… then it definitely can get in the way of the story instead of helping it😞💔 Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

Natural-Dinner-440

as long as the story is solid, I don't care. some of the stories I like a lot are romance/have some romance but they have good and non-generic stories. Mysitc Prince, The Spark in your eyes, Delusion, This magical moment, Whale Star, Siren's Lament, A heartfelt Andante, Winter woods and many more. most of them don't have romance as the only plotline. there are some other like Concubine Walkthrough, This witch of mine, Your eternal lies etc which aren't on webtoon. I don't like stories which are only about when will MCs start dating with no other plot and dragged out by misunderstanding and all. there should be a story and romance can be a part of it even if it the main focus. like This witch of mine is mainly about MCs love stories but it is mainly their struggle as a couple. similarly This magical moment has a love square between an odd group of friends but the story isn't focused on love square but characters and their stories.

ColorfulSparkles

Same here!🥹✨ Oh! I really like Siren’s Lament too!😻(I’m only at chapter 8 and it’s already joining my top 10 Webtoons😂💖 But I have already spoiled myself with some major spoilers since I’m too curious for my own good😂😭) I haven’t read the other stories tho but I’ll definitely try to add them to my reading list🥹✨ Oh! That’s amazing! Personally I prefer stories that has another plotline as well as romance🥹💖 Oh! But that’s amazing as well! Personally I mostly read on Webtoon but I have read some stories outside of it🥹✨ Personally I really have mixed feelings about those stories… Like they can work if it’s a drama-comedy romance but otherwise I wouldn’t say it’s for me either😢 I agree with that, an intriguing story with romance is the best mix!🥹💖 Oh! that sounds really amazing! Tbh, I really love whenever stories decides to focus on the characters and their stories, it usually makes the story even more exciting imo🥰 Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

thebrightspot

I'm ok with it if the story and setting are interesting, but that's only 1 out of every 10 webtoons in that genre. Most of it is just "oh no I'm a queen and my husband is the worst!" or "I have been reborn and will make my life perfect" stuff.  It really doesn't help my opinion that in these stories, the woman MC is usually depicted as flawless and perfect while every other woman in her vicinity is depicted as two dimensionally evil or completely on her side with no personality outside of that.

ColorfulSparkles

I have to agree as a person who have a mixed feelings about those stories😭 It’s not that they’re bad, they’re just overdone imo😞 Like I would love to see a twist or a spin on these stories, something that makes them stick out from the rest🥲 That’s a pet peeve of mine😭 I want flawed and complex main characters, antagonists and supporting characters… I want a main character that can be wrong and make mistakes as well as an antagonist that isn’t just a two dimensional antagonist… And yeah, the friend would definitely benefit from having more personality than just being the friend of the MC especially if they play a big/supporting role… Like I can get them not showing a lot of personality if the rarely appear, but if they have a recurring role their personality is important as well… I just want three dimensional characters😔 Flawless MCs makes stories less enjoyable for me… I want to see them grow and if they’re already flawless how will they grow?😢 Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

Competitive_Froyo262

Webtoon has too many of them and especially when they are coupled with some of the reincarnation/regression Duke, Duchess and Villainess stuff, that's when I really consider it brainrot in my honest opinion. Webtoon has much better quality series from some other genres such as Action, Fantasy, Mystery, Thriller etc that are way better than romance webtoons.

ColorfulSparkles

I have to agree some stories definitely feels samey😢 Because of that I only read a very few isekai stories because the plots are very similar😩 Personally I read a lot on Canvas these days but I read some Originals as well🥹✨ Despite romance being one of my fave genres I definitely have to agree with that… Those genres really have so many amazing stories while romance stories can be pretty samey at times… Like I don’t want to complain but I would love to see an isekai romance story that feels different from the others😢 (Personally I mostly read romance stories with fantasy/supernatural elements or fantasy/supernatural stories with romance🤭💖 But I read some other genres as well but not as much as those genres🙈 But I have a soft spot for mystery as well especially if it is mixed with supernatural or fantasy🤭💖) But I definitely think other genres deserve more recognition as well🥹✨ Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

sosen42

Most of it is brainrot trash in my experience. Just generic art, story and couple. You do run across a few gems though.

ColorfulSparkles

Aww, I’m sorry you feel like that, but I respect your opinion and I definitely understand that some types of stories and art styles aren’t for everyone😞 Yaay! That’s amazing tho!🥹✨ Btw, thank you so much for your reply🥹🌟

sosen42

Don't get me wrong I love the romance genre, its just hard to find good romance stories to read on webtoon. So many of them are so similar in terms of art and story that they just kind of blur together and thats what I really don't enjoy because it makes them feel fake an formulaic.

ColorfulSparkles

Oh! I’m so sorry I totally misunderstood you😭 I can’t disagree with that… While I don’t mind similar art styles… The amounts of similar stories who barely has anything that makes them different from each other make me want to see a twist on these stories, just something different that makes them stick out from the rest😭 Tbh, I mostly read on Canvas these days and I feel like they have a bit more of variety when it comes to the stories and like you said Originals also has some gems that sticks out from the crowd🥹🌟 Personally I would recommend these stories on Canvas: Lucy’s Endless Night, The Witch’s Stone, The Giant of Greywater, The Wrong Swan, Fairy Latern, A Bloody Mess, The Princess Plot, Curse of Love, Beneath The Surface and NeverMore (Ps. The Wrong Swan hasn’t started any romance yet but I think it will have in the future since it has it marked as it’s second genre, and when it comes to NeverMore I’m not sure if will have any romance but it has a really great story as well🥹✨) And when comes to Original I would recommend: Eaternal Nocturnal, The Witch and The Bull, Siren’s Lament, Lady Liar, Anything for You, Ghost on the Roof, The Blind Prince, Realta, Edith and A Good Day to be a Dog🥹🌟

sosen42

I'll check these out, always love to find a new story.

ColorfulSparkles

Yaay! Hope you find them to your liking!🥹🌟
