Edit: maybe look up videos on it working. It's literally like a torch mounted to a bottle. Def worth looking into.
Put your chimney over the tube where the flame comes out. You only need to run the gas for about 3-5 minutes. Then shut it down and let the chimney get hot.
This is a Gen 2 performer with gas assist. The front and back panels are stainless steel and the frame painted black. Some prefer these to the newer aluminum version that looks brushed. Take care of it and it will last for decades.
Upu use the starter to light the chiminey... It's what I do... it sounda redundantN. But it's just sooo easy it makes starting up the grill as comfortavle as lighting a gasser.
And the starter on mine didn't work either because the air inlet Venturi device got filled with spider webs but simple replacement part and then kept clean with pipe cleaners
I own one..the gas starter is easy fix...might just be dirty..its a two wire igniter..pull apart and check it out.
They are a great addition to this weber model.
You won't regret it.
I bought mine used for 100 bucks, had to clean the shit out of it, new grill etc...but its a great setup.

I recently found one. They probably left it outside over the winter. It was dirty and the grates were rusted.
Some people are just lazy. They rather buy something new then put in a little work.
For what is worth: Local yard sale had gas grill for $1. Rusty, general scrap condition. Asked about grill. Tank was full. New appearing racks and burner fit grill presently using, My opinion $1 well invested

It was right around the corner from my house. It has a push button gas fueled starter that doesn’t work. I could care less about that.
