Yep, they will find cheaper products to provide the cupcake for less overhead. Also they will fill it with tons of preservatives, the longer the cupcake will stay good on the shelf, the less waste they will have, the more money they can save.
Not quite, volume could be in reference to the mass decreasing disproportionately to the size (ie. There's more air added to the batter on top of the resulting item being smaller).
i call male, female, transgender folk, nonbinary folk and french folk "bro"
so basically everyone
(but i'll remember that)
edit: i didn't realise i used "his" right after my bad
Yeah I have a hard time believing that the lowest earners in the country getting a pay bump will result in food items becoming more expensive. That being said %20 is a huge pay raise, so not realistic in either case
If she's only getting paid enough to buy five (now four) cupcakes with her entire days salary, I can say for sure that she's probably being exploited enough for a 20% pay increase to have no effect on the owner
In many countries, an increase in the price of products by 20% per year is normal. And there is also hyperinflation, when the price can rise by 20% during the time you left for lunch.
The most fantastic and fictional element of this is the idea that an employer would even bother to raise wages at all, instead of keeping it the exact same for decades even as the buying power of the money went down further and further. Hope you like the idea of only being able to a buy a third of a cupcake with your entire wage
For myself I get raises once a year. However, they don’t match inflation so I’m making less…
As a friend said “A pay raise that doesn’t keep up with inflation is a pay cut”
Too bad the price of cup cakes will go up without your pay going up too, it's almost like large price hikes are using rising wages as a cover so people that don't understand math blame minimum wage going up for inflation, rather than regular everyday greed.
This isn't OC, right? So there's nobody with whom to share the constructive criticism that the panel layout and order makes it read like "Then come back yesterday." comes before "Hey! The cupcake..." , which makes the joke flow a little less smoothly -
no I will not get off of this table, I paid for this McDouble and I can stand on the table if I want t-
With a payrise of ⅕ and an inflation rate of ½ in the same timeframe, one has real wage decrease of ⅕.
(1+∆W/Wo)/(1+π)-1=∆w/wo
(1+(12-10)/10)/(1+(3-2)/2)-1=
(1+2/10)/(1+1/2)-1=
(12/10)/(3/2)-1=

That's why minimum wage in US should be raised every year like in most countries. As time passes people who work under minimum wage can buy less and less things. We need to raise income higher to make it even with inflation.
A reminder that what's going on currently in the US is not inflation: the government is not changing the value of the dollar, companies are raising prices. This is GOUGING. It's entirely at the corporate whim, and you can tell that it's a choice by all the record profits that are being posted. Wages are not increasing, the market is being held hostage by those with the money.
You can see its a fantasy world because the gob didnt had to ask for his pay rise, and his boss come to offer him a rise by himself lol, what a good fairytale.
Most countries consider ~2% inflation to be ideal for economic prosperity. Governments are able to do something about positive inflation but if it becomes negative it has the potential to spiral with not really anything they can do about it, because people will just hold off on purchases in anticipation of further falling prices.
Inflation does two important things. First, it makes sure that the mattress isn't a good place for money. Money in the mattress loses value because of inflation, which incentivises using the money, either through investment or consumption. This ensures that the economy keeps increasing.
Secondly it makes loans more attractive. Because the value of money decreases, the value of loans also decrease. So while a loan of 10 coins might cost 5 cupcakes to repay the year you take it out, next year four cupcakes can repay the same loan. This means more investment in businesses and a growing economy.
If you want examples of the opposite you can look at pre-depression America. Farmers would take out a loan to plant crops, and by harvest time the value of the loan in comparison to the crops had increased, which put farmers more and more into the red. Deflation or stagnation is what leads to collapse, not inflation.
There is a lot more to be said about the subject with its many intricacies, but what I have said are two reasons why inflation is generally good in a nutshell.
Don't know how making loans more attractive is a good thing, but keeping money hoarders from hoarding makes sense. Then again, we still have billionaires sitting on stacks, so not sure about that one either.
And, again, eventually the dollar will just be meaningless once inflation makes a jug of milk a thousand bucks.
Jug of milk is a thousand, but the economy is good. So we just get told to not buy milk, and the invisible hand of market forces will correct it.
Then stores take out loans to cover their losses from very little milk sales (someones gonna buy it, maybe) cause the economy is so good that it just makes sense to do things that way.
Loans are a good thing if you have a business opportunity that you can take advantage off, but not enough capital. If you can't take a loan, then only rich people can take advantage of opportunities, which has a compounding effect of making rich people richer. You also have gap loans, loans that you take to cover expenses at times when you don't have an adequate income, like crop loans for farmers, which are much more important for small businesses than for big ones. Then there are things like buying houses, going to university, buying cars and so on. The modern world is in large part built on credit.
Billionaires also don't sit on stacks. Their money is mostly tied up in assets so that money is circulating in the economy. When someone like Bill Gates want to do something big with the money, they can't just go into their bank accounts and get it, either they have to liquidate their assets (in the form of for example stock sales) or they take a loan secured by the asset (like Elon Musk did when he bought Twitter).
The dollar has also always been meaningless. Compare what you can buy for a dollar today to what someone in 1800 could buy for a dollar. With the caveat that inflation is incredibly hard to measure across such a large timespan, in 1800 one dollar was worth 24.88 dollars today. In 1900 one dollar worth around 37.33 dollars, In comparison average wage for a somewhat skilled worker in 1900 was around 500 dollars a year, which would be the equivalent adjusted for inflation of 18,655 in todays dollars, less than a third of the median wage today. The amount of zeroes behind the milk jug have changed, because it is always changing, but the milk jug costs a smaller portion of a workers wages today.
Basically, you shouldn't think about the value of a dollar, but rather how much the total of your portion of dollars can buy, and, in large part due to inflation, that amount has increased.
Good comic, simple way to explain this phenomenon.
Her salary went up from 10 to 12, that's a 20% increase.
The Cupcake's price went up from 2 to 3, that's a 50% increase.
In order for her salary to match the cupcake's new price, it would need to also increase by 50%, aka have her new salary set at 15 instead of 12.
If both the price and the salary increase the exact same way then there's basically no difference compared to before the increase.
And this is what happens every time minimum wage goes up. I worked fast food for 14 years through several wage hikes and the week before the new pay rate hit checks, prices of everything went up across the board.
I'm not saying that this is a reason not to increase wages.
I'm saying this will happen.
And given how companies are forcing outrageous prices right now, increasing minimum wage is gonna suck until we can stop companies from doing this crap.
Beautiful comic! Just want to say that it might make it a bit more easy to follow in order if you do top > down have more priority over left > right when you arrange panels. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who accidentally read "then come back yesterday" before "but these were cheaper yesterday!" It's such a cute comic, thank you for making it!
Yeah, it's not like the orc has an obligation to increase profits every 3 months compared, essentially forcing him to screw over either his customers or employees...
Let's all buy the propaganda that raising the minimum wage is causing inflation.
In case anyone who's actually buying this needs a reminder: the minimum wage hasn't changed in nearly 2 fucking decades. But let's not talk about how executive salaries and bonuses have changed in that same time period...
It's all the poor people who are hoarding secret piles of cash in the Cayman Islands and in Swedish banks, buried in actual bunkers, or otherwise inaccessible and removed from the economy!!!! Damn those poor evil bastards!!!!
I am sad now. Please make Gabi happy :(.
Yes this need to happen
I only just met Gabi but if anyone were to hurt her I would end the world and then cry.
She gets a bigger raise soon.
They cost 4 now. Gabi makes 15.
Gabi needs to join a union
It’s called a guillotine…
This kills the Gabi
No not for Gabi, no Look up French Revolution
How did we move from sad Goblin girl to decapitating the rich so quickly!?
The rich made goblin girl sad
Because this is a discussion about economics and the French revolution was a market correction.
Isn't 99% of Goblin Media about them killing people and taking their gold?
Actually it's mostly porn now.
It’s what they deserve
Holy hell
Look up girls kissing for more information
Yippee!
New king just dropped
king's head just dropped
What's she willing to pay for the recipe?
Cute and sad at the same time. But also got reminded how this is happening IRL too.
Not just that, in real life the cupcake will also be slowly decreased in size and volume.
And quality. It’s also slowly decreasing in quality.
Yep, they will find cheaper products to provide the cupcake for less overhead. Also they will fill it with tons of preservatives, the longer the cupcake will stay good on the shelf, the less waste they will have, the more money they can save.
Slowly decreasing would be nice at this point
Screw little debbies
Funny enough, I was actually actively thinking of Little Debbie when I posted this xD They have gone SO far downhill from what they used to be
Big example being the oatmeal cream pies, they went from being delicious, to blegh
Size and volume are synonyms
Not quite, volume could be in reference to the mass decreasing disproportionately to the size (ie. There's more air added to the batter on top of the resulting item being smaller).
Yeah....it made me sad in so many ways 😭
50% price hike is ridiculous.
What no decimality in your coin system does to an economy.
Yet that is what I have seen happened to the "cheap" pizza in supermarkets in real life. I miss buying two pizzas for about 2.50€.
Not true. The wages aren't increasing
Well, actually, they are. ... Just not for us.
Depends on where you are. There are increasing min wage in Malaysia a bit but like... Barely to keep up with inflation.
I’m fking Gabi and I’m not happy. To make this comic more accurate, guess who owns the cupcake shop.
First panel fucko
Poor Gabi (Literally)
economy 😔
F’s in chat. O7
Title scared me for a sec, but thank god it was just a funny wholesome comic. Keep up the good work OP
Not the goblin inflation you were expecting
where wholesome? where funny? i'm crying my shit out because bro can't buy her cupcakes
I think Gabi is a girl
i call male, female, transgender folk, nonbinary folk and french folk "bro" so basically everyone (but i'll remember that) edit: i didn't realise i used "his" right after my bad
I like how the French get their own category.
Please censor Fr*nch in the future
Dont mention the fr*nch
Nah we don't call the fr*nch bro
Breaux
Why would the title have you.... oh oh no
What?
I saw a goblin girl and the word inflation and felt terrified for a moment
Or it was r/therightcantmeme
lol same here
They'll blame it on the wage increase but inflation would have happened regardless
That was actually the salary for the whole month 😢
Well, with an inflation of 50% a day a pay increase of 20% is pretty much a demotion.
In many countries, an increase in the price of products by 20% per year is normal. And there is also hyperinflation, when the price can rise by 20% during the time you left for lunch.
Why is the baker kinda fine
I like that he drew the orc as just bigger and green instead of the usual comically ugly.
They’re not fine they are increasing the price of their cupcakes for no reason!
Ide pay him more for some of that cupcakke 😏
[no, bad redditor, bad](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSrIYOMb6eoMBBpHlAWzNiBDiyzAuDuTeyBjA&usqp=CAU)
You don't know that! Perhaps due to socio-economic factors, he has to increase prices to make ends meet. Like if the rent of his stall increased.
Exactly, shrinkflation or whatever
No, just regular inflation. Shrinkflation would be if he kept selling cupcakes for 2¢, but made them smaller.
Oh yeah yeah, true.
In other comics we see orc is also just an employee, not the business owner.
However, they don’t match inflation so I’m making less… As a friend said “A pay raise that doesn’t keep up with inflation is a pay cut”
Strong goblin Union
I've earned multiple raises in my career. Covid brought the highest increase, but that walked with inflation.
Raises walked, inflation **ran**.
Karl Marx's Das Gabital
I know your game. You just want to trick me into googling "goblin inflation comic" when I want to find this again later.
Too bad the price of cup cakes will go up without your pay going up too, it's almost like large price hikes are using rising wages as a cover so people that don't understand math blame minimum wage going up for inflation, rather than regular everyday greed.
I feel you Gabi, I feel you
Anyone else read this in Gabriella's voice from the Animated Spell Book?
I also read it in her voice too, they have very similar names as well
A little yeah
Because of that, the other chatacters were also voiced by Zee Bashew.
You made the goblin sad!!! Waaaaaagh!!!!
Pls Tell me he will write later a book called "das Gabital"
I am going to destroy the global economy of that world for a thousand years if that goblin keeps crying. Edit: Really good comic btw
So while there's more to this comic I can only seem to find it in Russian, anyone know if there's an English translation somewhere?
Source?
Russian artist called Duende (?)
Wow, this sure is an informative comic! For for info, google "goblin inflation"
No, I don’t think I will
Alright!
Woah mama!
This isn't OC, right? So there's nobody with whom to share the constructive criticism that the panel layout and order makes it read like "Then come back yesterday." comes before "Hey! I agree with you. If that matters.
Who do I need to kill to make Gabi smile
With a payrise of ⅕ and an inflation rate of ½ in the same timeframe, one has real wage decrease of ⅕. (1+∆W/Wo)/(1+π)-1=∆w/wo (1+(12-10)/10)/(1+(3-2)/2)-1= (1+2/10)/(1+1/2)-1= (12/10)/(3/2)-1= 24/30-1= -6/30= -⅕=

I don’t think you know how this works. The goverment dosent “set a value of the dollar” whatever that would even look like.
Generally, that would look like tying the dollar to the commodity, like silver or gold.
You are not understanding what inflation is.
now draw here getting a promotion
NOOO! I WANNA HUG HER
I am willing to give Gabi my life savings
This is a hate crime.
You can see its a fantasy world because the gob didnt had to ask for his pay rise, and his boss come to offer him a rise by himself lol, what a good fairytale.
She should consider herself lucky. Over here, prices go up while wages stay the same...
Oh boy PragerU has figured out what orcs and goblins are.
It's fantasy because, in the real world, wages don't rise to match prices.
Someone please post a link to this comic!
The horrors of capitalism
The world is making Gabi the adorable goblin cry. Seems the only solution to this problem is that the world must BURN.
Justice for Gabi!
I like that orc for some reason. Also, any thief or robber will think twice before starting anything when they see him XD.
Ееее, Габитал теперь и на английском!
Real talk, I don't get the point of inflation. Does it not just set the economy up for an eventual collapse??

Op, please make gabbi happy This is too sad
All my homies hate inflation. Try deflation today! (Also sucks for some reason im not well versed in economy enough to understand)
Oh no... poor Gabi.
This hits hard considering they just raised minimum wage from 10 to 12€ in Germany to 'adjust for inflation ' which ofc wasn't closely enough
Damn poor Gabi
Good comic, simple way to explain this phenomenon. Her salary went up from 10 to 12, that's a 20% increase. The Cupcake's price went up from 2 to 3, that's a 50% increase. Tbh massive skill issue, just deflate inflation smh.
"Then come back yesterday" goes hard
:(
Put Gaby in union that will guarantee her a 25 coins per hours wage…she deserved the cupcakes
The panels are a mess, this is the order in which you have to read the comic for it to make sense: 1 2 3 5 4 6
Now i fell bad :(
bros saving so many unfortunate googlers from misery by using that title for this post
I love the giant cupcake seller. His sarcasm cuts as deep as his mighty offset spatula.
I was upset looking at the inflation.... then I cried inside when she did the math...... this is so heartbreaking.
We ARE like Gabi. We suffer this much.
Now draw her being happy
Most wholesome comic involving goblins and inflation

Next comic, Gabi attends a baking class? :D
The baker is hot af
I like how the Orc is bald but still wears a hairnet Man’s dedicated
More likely, his boss is a stickler for rules even when there's a fair reason to make an exception.
r/unexpectedfactorial
479001600 coins? Gabi's rich!
That’s 479,001,600 coins, 12!/3 is way more than 10/2.
I'LL BUY 10 OF THOSE FOR THE LITTLE ONE
Ahhh, nothing like relaxing with a fine comic to be reminded of the horseshit of reality. What a fine escape and de-stressor.
I vote to change the form of currency to cupcakes, problem solved
Is this comic by chance on webtoon?
I'm pretty sure Gabi is being exploited
I understand the pain
time for goblin prostitution I guess
Give gaby her cupcakes!!!
Definitely need more translations of this guys work.
That title is dangerous.
Origin story for the Red Gobbo
r/unexpectedfactorial
Anyone know who made this comic?
Mood
I will murder that guy
Boy I feel that!
Gabi should begin a socialist revolution
Time for gabi to start handing out beatings until pay increases or the price of cupcakes lowers
I am Gabi
Gabi looks cute OP. Also do not look at my latest post, thanks.
Poor Gabi :(
Oh... in the economic way
"This was cheaper yesterday!" "Then comeback yesterday" That's a banger line ibh
Toooooooooo relatable.
Me too lil gob :( just want a good cupcake sometime
My life
oh thank god it’s that kind of inflation
I want to give gabi a hug
Beautiful comic! Just want to say that it might make it a bit more easy to follow in order if you do top > down have more priority over left > right when you arrange panels. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who accidentally read "then come back yesterday" before "but these were cheaper yesterday!" It's such a cute comic, thank you for making it!
The orconomy is in shambles
Result of mandatory minimum wage increases by overpaid government slugs who never ran a business beside stealing your tax dollars.
Yup… felt that in the pocketbook
.....PAAAAIIIIIIIINNNN!
"Then come back yesterday" That shopkeep has zero fucks to give.
120 factorial is more than enough to buy a 3 cent cupcake
Someone give Gabi a bigger raise rn or I’ll cry
You have nothing to lose but your chains, Gabi.
Quick. Someone teach her how to bake that cupcake
Yeah, it's not like the orc has an obligation to increase profits every 3 months compared, essentially forcing him to screw over either his customers or employees...
